Galka RSE
# Jun 13 2009 at 1:59 PM Rating: Decent
Since I decided to play Red Mage for a while, I thought it would be a good time to get my Galka RSE.

Here is how my attempt with my Level 56 MNK/THF went;

After about 50 mobs, I got a key from a Wight. After I got the pattern, I got my second key at the second mob, which was a Wendigo.

The third key was my last one for this run, because time ran out. It took about 100 mobs, mostly Amphisbaena, Sadflies, Wight´s and Wendigo´s. But it was a Ghast who dropped the key.

So in this 7-ish Hour run, 3 Skeleton type mobs dropped keys. I went through at least 50 Worms, none of them dropped a key. Same goes for the Flies, around 50 Flies and no key.

Chest Respawn Time?
# Jul 01 2006 at 2:39 AM Rating: Decent
I just want to confirm or disapprove the rumor: Do these chests respawn instantaneously or is there a 20min respawn or what? I know in Ghelsba it's about 20 min, but I've been told for the RSE chests, they reapear immediately elsewhere. Is that true or can someone tell me how long the respawn is on them?

If a chest is opened for RSE, it will respawn about 5 minutes later. If it is opened for the item inside, it will take 30 minutes.

So there I was, with a THF52 mate, trying to camp the key for my RSE. The first day, we must've tried killing the key-dropping mobs for a good couple of hours, almost certainly longer. No dice.
Even when we came back the next day for a similarly long key-hunt with a second THF, this time certainly 60+, AND given that the two THFs were going about their business separately, AND given that it was a full moon (the rumours surrounding which I interpret as the program becoming less stingy - those random numbers have to come from somewhere, you know...) we only got one key when I could have had two to complete my RSE set with. One of the THFs commented that by this time we should have had many more keys than just that one. I think the other THF likened this key to the one for Beadeaux, which allegedly has a hideous drop frequency.

Got my Elder's Sandals though, so it's not all moaning and groaning.
First Kill

Ok i just got this key on my FIRST kill, 50war/nin, solo... no th2 or any of that. Killed one of the Mauth Dooge's found near the big sadfly room on the first map. I guess it is just my lucky day.

It seems that Rancid Ozes drop it a way more than other mobs.. All my Gobbie quest was in gusgen and each time i came there a Rancid Oze dropped me the key on first kill =P

Got my key right now. It dropped of from a Weight. I just needed half an houhr. When i want to leave Gusgen i got aggro from Mauthe Dog and he dropped the key also.

Did the key hunt with a 36 WAR/THF and a 48 WAR/NIN. From my experience you CAN make this with a lvl 35 job but you have to take care of aggros and links. Many Bogys down there !!

Its much easier and much safer if you just bring a second player with you.

<<<EDIT>>>
So got 4 keys by now. 2 from a Mauthe Doog, 1 from an Wenigdo and 1 for a Banshee. Killead nearly 50 Sadfyls and noone dropped.

And it is the fact that they are Rare that only allows you to have one rather than EXclusive which prevents you from trading them. (However they ARE both.)

Um.. Sorry to ruin your fun but I think keys are ex, so you can't carry more than 1.

Keys are rare, not /ex. /ex means you can't trade it.

I think he means that he got a key, opened chest, went back to Jeuno for RSE, and repeated 4 times
Evil!

Apologies for the length, but I really need to vent my frustration out somewhere, and nobody from my LS is on. This frustration, it's justified in this case, is it not? I just fell victim to what has to be one of the cruelest jokes played on a player by the game. I hope it's laughing hard, because it earned it.

Here I was, poor hume 32BLM/16WHM, in dire need of RSE boots and leg armor, so I go picking and soloing the sadflies for the key, well before my window. Well, just a few kills, and I had the key, so later on that day, when the window for my race and gender open, I prep my silent oils and quickly nab the chest. Warp back to Jeuno, bam, got the boots.

And then go back to try for the pants...

I get back to Gusgen, figure it's going to be as easy as the first time to get the key. 7 and a half hours and two deaths later, I'm still looking. Finally, the very last sadfly I kill before the new week (about 40 game minutes prior) drops it. Excited, I apply my silent oil and dash to the closest chest spawn point provided by above guide, but needless to say, it isn't there. Not to be discouraged, I rush to the next one, and... I see it.

And then I look at the time. Running towards the chest, not close enough to open it, I watch in horror as the clock ticks over to Firesday.

But it doesn't end there.

I only have about 90 mp as this is going on, so I can't warp out until I've simply rested a tick. Easier said than done. At this very inopportune point in time, my connection decides to go haywire on me, creating 15-20 second lag pockets. Then my sneak oil runs out (didn't see the warnings because of the connection). Then a wight hears me.

A high-level passing by and noticing that I was just standing there getting wailed on was the only thing that prevented that ending's complete imperfection. Connection started to clear up, finally managed to rest a tick, and warp out there.

At least the trip wasn't a total waste, though. I *did* get the boots, and actually managed to come away with over 4k xp solo, despite the deaths. Since I really hate Ordelle's and the Maze, and I already have the key for Gusgen, now I wait 8 more days for the Mines window to open again...

And for those of you wondering if you can solo this in the lower thirties, my answer lies in the story above and in the fact that I acquired keys (for the gloves and vest, BOTH of which took under an hour to obtain) with my 30mnk and 30drk, both. Sadflies, wendigoes, and wights are easily soloable at that time, you just have to make sure you don't pull links. What I did was stand halfway up the stairwell and dia/poison/whatever the sadfly closest to the foot of the stairs, so long as there aren't any other sadflies near enough to link. Once you get going, there's less of a chance of pulling the link, as all of the flies won't be alive at the same time. It's risky, but I love risks. I've even gotten pretty methodical at it.

You're definitely going to need help at lvl 34.

Even if you brought gallons of sneak oil to sneak around, you wouldn't be able to fight even the easiest (level ~30) mobs without drawing aggro from others in the immediate area.

I'd definitely bring some higher level help, preferrably including a thf lvl 45 or higher for Treasure Hunter II.

Even with one in my PT and a monk who had subbed thief for Treasure Hunter I, my PT of 6 people who all needed a key took several hours of nearly non-stop mob slaying.

I wouldn't try soloing this at least until you stopped drawing aggro from the lower-lvl enemies, somewhere around lvl 40. Unless you have higher level help, getting keys for your RSE is impossible to attain anywhere near the level you can first equip it.

I believe the prerequisite of the key drop is that the mob be lvl 30+ (or something close to that) But I dont know that for sure.

we killed a few more mobs while waiting and got 3rd key :)

we had the keys drop on watersday btw. maybe they'll drop faster? dunno =)

We had 1 key drop of a Amphisbaena and 2 of a Wendigo. The Amphisbaena seemed to drop em pretty fast too and they're really easy to kill

I partied with a level 54 THF (I know, should have waited a level!) and ran around upstairs while he farmed for the key below... after constant fighting for 2 hours--killing like 7 sadflys at the same time--we didn't get a single drop.

Umm man why do you even make a post if it has nothing to do with the gusgen chest key. Its just a waste of space. These drop off most things in the deep part of the mine. I mine there a lot so i take on wendigos, wights, banshees, etc to get key drop just for quick cash.

I like to kill wrights for keys, they can drop spells as well as keys and they are easier than Wendingos.

#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 13 2004 at 7:48 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) you are an idiot, wights are lv 26-35 in this area, wedingos are only 24-30
RE: .

sure, flaming ppl when all you have considered is 1 facet of the problem...wights are undead, they are hard to kill unless u have mages in ur group. doesn't matter if they are lower lvl. some lower mobs are harder to kill than higher lvl ones. just depends on what type of attacks they are resistant to. so, b4 u flame, think through the whole situation. better yet, just b quiet.
