I don't see anywhere on this rings description that says latent effect: Enhances Jump effects. When maint is done I'll double check seeing as how I have this ring from drop but never used it so I don't really know. Pretty sure it doesn't say latent effect though, in which case why are we asking what the trigger is? If the item doesn't say it, and no one can prove that the latent is hidden then there is no latent on this ring. Just /equip it on a Jump macro. Simple stuff.

Ok after we finished in Sky I went and checked, the in game item does say latent effect, so yeah...my bad. Dont know what activates it, kinda dont care, its usually something thats just not worth it. Unless the latent activates only on jumps lol.

Jump has a 50% VIT mod on it that SOMETIMES procs. The DMG difference seems to be more significant than 50% though, but it is totally there, and that is what this ring enhances.
Happy Jumping!

If anyone actually KNOWS ( i.e. is a DRG 50 and has the ring AT LEAST) how to activate the latent effect, give us some feedback please, im thinking of getting it, but w/o knowing how to activate, it would be a waste. TY

EDIT: bought it, was only a K, FFXIclopedia sez activation is HP less than or equal to 75% AND TP less than or equal to 100%, just what i read, havent tested it yet

I believe your Hp has to below 75% to activate the latent effect. I usually use it while I solo because my HP will usually be below that most of the time.
just pretend this says something clever

Gah, I'm so sorry. Computer had a problem.
I wish any GM deletes all that posts. :x

Sorry again.

Well, I always check playonline.com for true information.
So, when they said they'd fix Dragoon, I went to check what is going on really.
And I found that they'll fix the 2-hour and the "Call Wyvern" ability.
And they will do the following:
1) Decreases the Job Ability "Call Wyvern" to 20 minutes, (Not 2-hour anymore) And that it cannot be used by any other job, DRG should be main.
2) That they will create a new 2-hour ability for the DRG: "Spirit Surge"
The following happens:
1) You cannot use "Call Wyvern" or have the Wyvern out when you use the Job Ability.
(Because it's as if the Wyvern gets inside you, you two combine.)
2) You and your Wyvern's power will be mixed.
In all Attributes, HP, MP. (2 person in 1)
Or kinda 1 person and 1 creature. :P
3) "Jump" effects are enhanced
Uh-huh.. Here's what are we talking about.
They exactly typed the following.
3) "Jumps" Effect are enhanced to the following:
Jump: Just like Jump, but it adds "Defense down" effect to the enemy. (The higher damage you do, the more defense down he gets.
High Jump: Just like High Jump, but it decreases the TP of the enemy due to the damage.
(The more damage you do, the more TP the enemy loses)
Super Jump: Just like Super Jump, you lose total hate, but.. The person behind you while you use Super Jump loses 50% of hate.

That is all coppied from playonline.com
But I used my language, because it was a quiet period of time since I last read it, and I couldn't find the link, but who wants to be sure, go check it.
So, my thought is:
That these effects of the new 2-hour will kick in when Latent works.

I'm a BRD75, And my 2nd job to 75 is DRG, but it's mere Lv.20 now, I'm not that high of level, and I'm not sure of my information about the ring. (Sure about the new 2-hour though)
So, don't blame me if I'm wrong.
Hope I help'd. Laters. =)

I'd like to point something out here... Something most high levels would know...
Jumps are not ALL about damage... Infact 2 of the jumps are more about hate removal than anything. In the case of "Jump" it's more straight out damage. and can pull hate. High Jump on the other hand sheds it.
So think...
"Jump Effects" Perhaps the purpose of this ring...

Is to enhance the damage and hate gained from Jump, and enhance the hate shedding of High Jump.

This would be my guess since it doesn't say Jump Damage, which seems to be what everyone is focused on.

True, it says nothing about "High Jump" but as somebody wearing Barone Consciales, which says...
"Jump" TP Bonus
I can say it applies to both Jump and High Jump.

BTW... I was just running around outside Jeuno testing this so called "it works when you're health is yellow/orange/red" It doesn't do **** for extra damage, regardless of what my health was. There was no change in damage... No increase, no decrease.

There are a few possibilities to this...

1. The purpose of the ring is hate shedding (very likely)... I don't see 'Enhances "Jump" Damage'... Leading me to believe it's the effects jumps have, not the damage they do. Remember that DRG is one of the ultimate SC buddies. You can dump SATA + weaponskill onto us, we take hate, and can instantly remove the hate letting it safely go back to the tank. Enhancing the effects of hate gaining with Jump and hate removal with High Jump would serve any good DRG in PT well. Especially at higher levels when shedding say... SATA + Spiral Hell can mean Super Jump or tank. I'll put it to the next in my next party.

2. The effect ("Jump" Effects) does not stack with AF feet (lv.54 if you're wondering). This is also a likely possibility, but it's not worth the effort since I use AF feet by default (unless somebody has some Barone feet I can have :P)

3. SquareEnix is still working on what '"Jump" Effects' are. LOL Now this is VERY LIKELY lol Maybe we'll see in the next patch '"Jump" Effects" will be added to Dragoon.

Latent Effect

I think that with this ring the more your HP goes down the more damage Jump will do. I noticed that when I was in the red My jump was doing 2-3 times more damage then normal.
I use this ring after I spirit Link before the WHM has a chance to cure me and the Damage delt is definaly more.
heh.

eh. it really is listed as more of a trinket. a lot of the latent items in ffxi are novelty. they're all so weird. like, who subs BST and wants Acc+3? lol.
Latent Effect.......
# Oct 03 2004 at 3:45 AM Rating: Decent
Can we please get this straight!!!!!! some are sayin that Latent Effect means you have to have a certain sub-job equiped and some are sayin that it means a effect that kicks in when your hp is low. If it means you have to have a certain sub job equiped then why is the latent effect for DRG job and can only be equip'd by DRG, what sub job would you use then and what would be the point of havin that sub job????? so the low HP is sounding a lil more logical. just tryin to get everyone on the same page. Correct me if you feel im wrong.

Latent effect is something that kicks in at a certain point, it means it does not kick in as soon as you equip the item but only after certain criteria are met, like say, your HP goes to 60% (just saying) and suddenly you're berserked. I know there's a ring that will increase Double Attack by 5% when your health drops to a certain point but only if you have a WAR subjob at lvl 25 or higher. So latent effects could be fun to play around with but... the guy's right, they're somewhat novelty items if you gotta wait for it to work. I hope this explanation is not only accurate but helpful :p

From what I know the level 30 latent effect stuff is subjob related. While the level 50 uses low hp to go off.

# Oct 06 2004 at 3:51 AM Rating: Decent
Not all latent effects are the same. Some are sub job, but these ones most likely aren't as they require a certain job to use already.

latent effect means it works under a certain condietion. the lvl 30 belts, earrings are sub job, on mysterytour it says these rings work when u are yellow HP or less and less then 100%TP

Latent effect does not change from equip-to-equip. It's a one time effect. Latent Effect means the skill (in this case "enhancing Jump") kicks in when u are at 1/3 health or when ur health gets to red. This makes all these rings etc. very GAY unless ur soloing or ur a tank. I hope I answered a lot of questions.
RE: LE
# Oct 06 2004 at 3:49 AM Rating: Excellent
This is completely untrue.

As a WAR/MNK I use a wrestler's earring that's latent effect is +30 hp and it's always active, because it's trigger is subbing MNK. All the earrings of that group trigger by subbing a certain specific sub.

These may also all trigger by the same type of effect, and if that is true, the most commonly given is yellow health and under 100% tp, however not ALL latent effect items are this way.

Not all latent effects work like that the lvl 30 earrings Wrestlers Earring, Killers Earring etc. all depend on the subjob you chose (Wrestlers is monk killers in dark knight) i dont know how this latent effect kicks in but im sure it has to do with somthing else besides life.

what exactly does "enhance 'jump' effects" mean?
requirement?

I'm going to repeat the question just because I'm curious. I've heard that "latent effect" varies from item to item...so...

What's this ring's latent effect requirement?
Macro for gear change
# May 06 2004 at 11:08 AM Rating: Decent
Set up a jump macro as follows:

For proper slot names, run a help (/?) on /equip.
The command to do that is:
/? /equip
You'll get a full explanation there.

/equip <ring slot> "Drake Ring"
/ja "Jump" <t>
/wait 2
/equip <ring slot> "Balance Ring" (or whatever ring you're using)

I understand Latent Effects to kick in when you're yellow, but I can't prove or disprove this, as I have no experience with them.

Latent Effect

Anybody know about the latent effect for this ring? I'd love to have Jump increased but when does the latent effect come into effect? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Eh...
# Feb 12 2004 at 6:45 PM Rating: Default
Unless this ring helps jump out alot I wouldn't bother...I'd rather have dex rings.
