Blue mage shield now?
# Jun 28 2006 at 3:19 AM Rating: Decent
Does anyone know if this shield can be equipped by a blue mage now? It would be perfect for a blu/thf or any blu for that matter.

This is why Thief's Knife is such a common drop :p

For the melee Red Mags, this shield just isn't any good. For casting it's great. Considering I'm Hume and I focus in on the potency of my casting (ie: lots of MND/INT), I don't run much mana when in casting mode. I have 615mp before food at lvl69. If you're like me and use wands instead of elemental staves, just be sure to macro in the aspis instead of your regular shield.

Otherwise I personally feel it isn't worth it for combat. Darksteel Buckler's have a higher defense and an attack bonus. It's great for exp, just not good for solo play.

Aspis Drop
# Mar 17 2005 at 9:36 AM Rating: Good
Last night my xp party killed this.

68 WHM
68 BRD
68 PLD
68 RNG
69 MNK
70 RNG

BRD and I reraised, BRD used 2 hour and got minuet and whatever up (I can't remember the other song, probably a madrigal), cast Foe Requiem and got ballads up. The rest was just a normal fight, casting stona and silena when needed and Cure IV whenever it does it's special move. (The one that inflicts poison).

It actually went down a lot easier than the tigers we were killing. Dropped about 4900 gil, so multipy that by six ^-^ Also dropped a skin and the Aspis, which everyone passed to me for some reason. Thanks guys!
huh?

too bad MND has little use for a whm unless u go hexa strike something <.<

Elvaan do make the best rdm tho, MND is the most important stat on savage blade, stoneskin and paralyze. The MP limit is only a minor problem seeing how much HP->MP or plain MP gear u can get.

They are not too great as whm and pretty much suck on blm from pure base stats.

Scuez me I gotta go stack MND gear and hexastriking something.

I dont think I'd even use this as BST. Darksteel is so much better. I think the lvl 19 Lantern Shield is better. Then again I'm a taru and don't have to worry about MP as much as a galka BST/WHM. Might be good for blu if they can use it tho.

DRK are ***** to do Last Resort + Souleater, so i see them as pointless and a ****** up accuracy rate -.- (unless have sniper rings ^^) i did more dmg than 2 DRK ws + the skillchain :) was awesome

...no...just no. DRK accuracy is NOT messed, it just stands out more because of the higher delay on our weapons. And a good DRK should have a lot of +acc, Absorb-DEX, etc. to make sure they barely miss. As to using Last Resort and Souleater at once, I use Last Resort whenever I can just for the hell of it. Souleater, one should only use on chain 4 or 5 to help kill the mob fast. And at your level, DRKs really don't have good WSes, so I wouldn't really judge us because of that. As such, perhaps you pted with bad DRKs, perhaps you just don't like us, but I really don't think you should bash another job for any reason, ever.

Also, at 66+, you're gonna be pting and SCing with DRKs a lot cuz Wheeling Thrust into Spinning Slash makes Light, so you might want to get used to us...

Excuse me all you saying 'This would be better for a BLM', well damn, look on the AH, how much new crap did you BLMs get from CoP?
A CRAPLOAD!
I think this is the first thing I saw that would be useful for one the forgotten classes in CoP, the RDM.
*Other forgotten classes: DRKs and MNKs*
RE: *cough*
# Dec 21 2004 at 2:50 AM Rating: Decent
Yeah MNK is a forgotten class for sure. I have only PT'ed with like 3 after lvl 31 :( and at lvl 45+ you only see the few that are like lvl 60 with full AF LFP in Jeuno or something...

why the heck can't bard equip any of the fun shields? ;_; i mean, if every other mage type job can equip it, bard should too >.<

meh, maybe i shouldnt ***** too much about this... after all, it wasnt very long ago they added all the lvl30 All Job BCNM shields (i dont even care about subjob latent effect, just the extra defense and possible damage blocking would be worth it.)
now if only someone would sell one of them on quetz besides the 200k war-sub one X-D
RE: T.T
# Feb 28 2005 at 2:08 AM Rating: Decent
well bard wasnt intended to be a mage type job. ppl just made it that way for some unknown reason. if bard was to be a mage type job it would cost mp to sing. but i agree. there should be more shiled options for bard
RE: T.T
# Apr 30 2005 at 9:34 AM Rating: Decent
~_~; it wasnt made that way for some 'unknown reason' ...it isn't that way at all..(i'm not sure since i'm not one) but BRD only have MP because they sub WHM or another mage job. (yes, songs are under 'magic' in the menu - but so are ninjutsu spells... does that make NIN a mage? >.> no.. ^^ so they are -not- mages, which is why they don't have this item to use =o now as to why DRK and PLD have them... well SE is just insane.

You can't see it in the AH, it's Rare/EX

There are TWO different items

Astral Shield (NOT Rare/EX - This is a BCNM 60 Drop)

Astral Aspis (This IS Rare/EX - NM Drop)

I'd have to disagree about needing a perfect PT of 73s to take this out...Id say a good PT of 70-71 could still do it. Either way...killed it, lotted a 487...lost to a rank 5 war/nin. What on earth he needs that shield for is beyond me, I'm only a stupid BLM, but that sort of thing drives me crazy...and no, its not for his *other job*. This guy was horrible, I can guarantee he doesn't have anything else, let alone an Elvaan mage, lvled to 68. =(

That's a bit stereotyping that Elvaan's can't be mages. I'm an Elvaan RDM, and I know a level 75 Elvaan RDM on my own server too, plus a lot of other hilevel mage-type Elvaans. Might want to rethink your statement, but yes, I agree, if someone does not immediately need the item, they shouldn't lot on it as a courtesy.
RE: Not tooo hard
# Aug 20 2004 at 9:14 AM Rating: Default
He wasn't stereotyping, he was just being honest, elvaan is afterall the 2nd worst class to be a mage :o

I don't really understand why you would say elves is bad class to be a mage with. If all you're considering is MP and talking about summoners then sure.

Any mage who can be resisted will tell you that MP is negligible if you can land all of your spells. I wouldn't even rank whm/blm/brd by best race. I would rank them on a player by player basis based on who gets resisted the least. (in the case of white mages, who has the best cure efficiency)

If you're thinking, "The best player on the server is not playing at his potential with a less than ideal race." Then I would contend that this statement is wrong due to the very elaborate RSE sets that have been implemented. I don't know, off hand, about how each race compares to each other, but I know that if you compare a hume and an elvaan red mage wearing their respective RSE and whatever else they want, that you're left with a negligable difference in mp (like 40 out of 800+) and an elf who has more mind and a smaller chance of being interrupted due to their HP. However, as I stated before, the amount of resists you get is more important than any other factor. If you get resisted then you're basically spending double for the spell (and the time it takes to recast).

This shield is actually better used on a BLM if you can get a hold of the "Mistellien" wand. Aspis+Mistellien is better than any of the Staffs^_^

Pelican is a cockatrice type notorious monster that pops in an area of kuftal tunnel that people fight around level 70+

usually whenver it pops, a few parties will form an alliance, kill it, and free lot on the shield.

i was lucky, my alliance only had 2 other people that would have bothered using this. and they were BLM so the elemental staffs are better for them anyway.

pelican isn't level 0... he's a pretty easy kill with an alliance of just 2 xp parties around level 72 or so. i'd say a hardcore party of level 73-74 could take it... by hardcore i mean, skilled players, good race-for-job combinations, and good party structure.. like taru whm/smn, not elvaan whm/blm.
