Was bored after dynamis tonight and decided to go see if I could get this shield to add to my rare/ex collection. So I went as 75Pld/Nin with my lvl 50 NPC and found the ??? for the whistel in the 2nd room I check, so then I headed down to the pop point while killing stuff along the way for easy but small xp, seals, and TP so that I could open the fight with a big SpiritsWithin. Poped my NPC, then I rested to full, Poped the NM and it was a long fight but thanks to spirit taker and my npc I was able to solo it with 100 HP's and 3MP left, but then a Temple Bee aggroed me before I could put shadows back up and crit me and I died... hehe. Not sure if this is 100% drop rate as this was 1st time I had fought him but I got the drop, 35xp, and 6000 Gil for the lump sum of 2k xp loss. This was a very fun fight!
I just got mine, but it's mainly a gear build for DRK solo. There's a couple reasons for getting it, but not a ton of reason an "Average" DRK would acquire this.
1) Solo, but not just any type of solo. DRK/BLU or DRK/RDM with this sheild solo EP/DC crabs purposely and effeciently. Best gear you can get for the solo set however is pretty much relic+Dainslaif+Sheild. You may lose 50HP tops per EP, 150 tops per DC. Since DRK does not have sheild skill, it is only enhancing your Def/INT/STR/MP/Dark Magic.
2) Trigger hunting for God pop items in sky. Using this can bring another dimension to the tank party. Not only can DRK stun, but Arcane Circle effects everything in sky except for the gods themselves. Also the less resisted you are spell wise, you can do some oddball Dark Magic Nukes. I've been known to chill out with mages during Faust(for obvious reasons) and cast Drain/Drain II/Bio II/Stun/Thunder II/etc and do solid chunks of damage.
3) Goofing off in general. Yes, I said it. It can be used as an effective e-peen item LOL! Granted, it's got a lot of what a DRK should look for, it doesn't work well against HNM's or otherwise. Great Sword is king on HNM's and Gods, period(for DRK). I.E. you cannot use Great Sword while holding a shield.

I know many darks that use AXE + Shield, and they arnt too bad. Also, many use Spirits Within on HNM
If someone's Spirits Within is more effective than Spiral Hell or Ground Strike, may want to invest in STR gear and /THF sub. Biggest Spirits within I've ever seen, did 1011. I don't think I've hit under 1k with Ground Strike ever. Hell, a properly buffed SA/TA Savage Blade can do over 1300 easy. I'm not gonna rant on it, but DRK with One Handed Weapon against HNM is "lol."
Sad part is DRKs dont have sheild skill. The skill for Sheild comes from WAR sub. That should be changed. Even though DRKs never tank in exp they can tank for other situations like my DRK tanks on key hunts where I end up being 5+ levels on the paladin or ninja if one even joins.Even though DRKS should be using NIN sub if they tank and preferably be using Dainslaif and a Carnage Sword due to the HP draining effects, a DRK tanking with Sheild could be interesting.( With DRK damage and Stun you wouldnt beleive how well we hold hate). But anyways Im going to Den of Rancor for my Spiral Hell WS and were gonna try and get this shield on the way.
Kind of ironic; the shield's meant for DRK (since PAL don't use dark magic as far as I know), but they can't wield it by themselves. Meanwhile, the only other job that CAN wield it can't use its best property.
This is not true. It's not. Anyone that has used Spirits Within against the NM for PLD AF1 knows that Stoneskin does not block Spirits Within. My friend and I went to kill it, built TP, popped it, and engaged. Before we could do anything, the earth elemental cast Stoneskin. We used Spirits Within immediately, and they both did full damage and were not resisted in any way.
Spirits Within ignores Stoneskin. There's no other possible way to look at it.
Edit: Actually, there IS another way to look at it, and I was wrong, at least a little bit. Every time I've used Spirits Within on Earth Elementals/Goblins with Stoneskin up, it's ignored it and I've never had a problem. However, the new Troll ability Diamondhide DOES negate Spirits Within, and it's technically Stoneskin. Diamondhide also absorbs a frightening amount of damage before it disappears, and it cannot be Dispelled, which makes it really obnoxious.
