#REDACTED, Posted: May 15 2006 at 11:30 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) What the hell is everyones obsesion with avatar enmity -, You think SE when they were deciding this attribute would have thought "Ok our customers will know we mean Avatar enmity gets decreased when we say 'Avatar Enmity -'" but nooo some dumbasses have the idea "OO prehaps it means Summoner Enmity -" ... Honestly no offence meant, but how some people on these posts manage to come up with stuff like Avatar enmity - MUST MEAN SUMMONER ENMITY -. Also i read further down about smn skill, Its for ur elementals, If you find urself in a situation where you have an agro and cant summon avatars, by all means capping your smn skill to lob out an elemental to save your *** is Just Lovely, But Iv gotta say its not the most fun thing in the world to cap. It doesn't effect BP, your Avatar TP effects the resistance of BP spells. If you feel the urge to check your avatar tp summon one and type this down <pettp> in a macro
Avatar: Enmity- is the AVATAR'S ENMITY

Confirmed in a recent SE interview: http://na.square-enix.com/events/ffxi/tour2005/tx/transcript.html

FFXI Stratics: One of the biggest debates in the summoner community deals with the stat found on the artifact armor "avatar: enmity: -". Who receives this effect?

Sage Sundi: The enmity status is related to the avatar, not to the summoner. It's useful to use "avatar: enmity+" when you want your avatar to keep the hate.

the Avatar: enmity means while your avatar is fighting you have the -3 enmity not the avatar i solo all the time with fenrir and he always has the hate over me from the word go
my fenrir has stolen hate from pld and ninja in bibki bay while using ecliptic bite
the enmity bit is only good when you astral flow cause when you do the mob comes for you first not the avatar

This, along with the doublet and gloves, contain the text read as...
Avatar: Enmity -(#)

This does NOT lower the avatar's enmity. It lower the summoner's if he/she has an avatar out.

It's your reply that kind of disproves your theory that it's Avatar Enmity down because of:

"god knows why SE would put this in.. cant see how it benfits any situation ...."

Yes... Why indeed? Why would SE give a negative effect to AF? Sorry, but I'm not buying it!

you know, it's certainly possible that SE originally expected smn to leave their avatars out all battle. Thus, it would help to have your avatar have -enmity so not only does your avatar not get hurt with low def, but the tank has that much less competition. Thus, it's not an actual "negative" effect, just don't use it when you're soloing.

Summoning Skill is for all your Avatar Stats
So it raises HP, ACC, EVA and and and...

The summoning skill is like the INT for BLM and the MND for WHM

As much as I and most SMNs would like to believe that, it has not been proven and is simply conjecture. SE has said in one of their infamous interviews that summon skill only makes Spirit casting times faster and most likely makes your casting get interrupted less often. This would make the skill seem very useless, so must people want to believe it affects the performance of their avatars. It does not hurt them, so if you feel it is helpful, feel free to raise it.

well if u think summoning skill doesn't help then consider this.

lvl 20 fights: Cary smn skill at 25
took 1 hit to kill carby, carby dealt out 1-2 dmg per hit and searling light for 50.

Carby smn skill at 50
took 4 normal hits to kill carby, carby dealt about 5 dmg per hit and searing light for mayb (if ur lucky) 100 dmg.

Carby smn skill at 63 (max for lvl 20)
took alot more than 4 hits to kill carby. carby dealt out about 13 dmg per hit and searing light for alot more than 100...so as far as i'm concerned, my smn skill will always be capped out. i think that should prove it right there.

I recently had the chance to test this out a bit. IO was in a party with a Taru SMN and I was SMN as Mithra. He consistently outdamaged me with Blood Pacts done at virtually the same time. We were both level 51. His Summoning Magic was 99 and mine was 105. On most attributes we were very close excpet his INT was 61+7 and mine was mid fifties. If Summoning Magic affects avatar stats, I can at l;east say it doesn't affect BP's.

Summoning Skill: 20 vs. avatars.

Damage her pit: 5-10.

SL: 210 consistent. There, I proved you wrong. Perhaps you went on the wrong day?

Not proven...but myself being a SMN do notice an increase in ACC and HP by my Avas...was in Booya Tree exp off some IT++ crawlers. when i would cast my Avas, they would miss quit often. well, when its 30K tnl, you can spend some good amount of time raising your summoning skill. i think i went up 2 full levs and noticed some increases in my Avas abilities.

so, it "might" not be proven, but i for one think that some if this is true with my own experiences.

Summoning skill raises your avater/elemental's stats. In that way, it's kind of like lvling up your avater/elemental. Its not that wonderful of an item but it looks pretty cool and has a few good perks. The -enmity is bad if your soloing, but then why would you be soloing a summoner for exp at that lvl? Still, that's what summoning skill does since alot of people were wondering.

Actually, Summoning skill doesn't 'level up' your avatars. Your avatars level up with you, not your Summoning Magic skill.

As others have said, SE released a statement that said, and I quote:
Quote:
8) Exactly how does the SMN "summoning" skill affect avatars?

The summoning skill affects the chance of interruption when a spell is being cast, as well as the casting time of summoned spirits (i.e. Earth Spirit, Water Spirit, etc.).

And yeah, no one has a single clue what summoning skill does =/, people keep spreading rumors that it lowers interruption rate of summoning... but no one has proven it =/

personally, I think this item sucks. Summoning skill does nothing but reduce interruption rates. Int for a summoner? ....c'mon. 25 mp, wow, my hairpin adds more than that. It wouldn't be that bad, but the Avatar: Enmity -3 just adds icing to the cake. Not worth getting in my opinion, unless you want a horn on your head, or completion status.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 31 2004 at 8:13 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I personally find the -3 avatar enmity a bit annoying... when soloing I usually keep this on to summon an avatar and then switch down to my Austere Hat to keep from losing the MP from the summon cost. When soloing the avatar generally has to tank since summoners can't take a hit really well and if the blood pact misses having all this - avatar enmity means the summoner is more likly to take hate -.-
heh
