Bloody bolts do work on bats, but they have alot of resistance to it. I have gotten them to fire off on bats in garlaige citadel--but not often. However, sleep bolts do not fire on bats at all.
Correction, as rare as it works, sleep bolts do work against bats. I'd imagine you need to keep your marksmanship capped. I fired one off on a set of incubus bats in Upper Delkfutt Tower and put them to sleep so I could Utsusemi. I was only able to get it to work once. However, it's not something I try to do often. I find most status bolts don't fire off their effects against bats very often at all, except Venom Bolts which seem to hit damn near every time.
I find it hard to believe the i use 1xBloodyB.Heads and Ash lumberx1 to make 33 bolts at a time, has the recipe changed since the BoltHeads stack to 99 now?
For soloing does anyone else cheat and use a long /ra macro?
I mean.. /ra <t> /wait 9 /ra <t> /wait 9 /ra <t> (wait is just long enough to take swings with daggers, different depending on your bow or xbow)
Just for skilling up mostly I guess, just putting that out there if it hadn't been thought of. Also use it extensivly in the BCNM Worms Turn...
Also.. I like having my /equip 'bolt' macros separate from any /ra <t>
For example.. pulling, swap in acid as I'm running around but then hit a /p text macro for the actual pull. Running back to camp might swap to a blind and then use that whenever I've got the opportunity. Just seems hazardous to put the /ra <t> in the actual switch, thats just me.
Man im like 50 in WW and i failed on the stupid Bloody Bolts 2 times in a row i was soo pissed its only a fricked 16 craft i should be HQing it and it costs like 35k to even make em on Odin i miss Ifrit - - - (LS: MeltingPot) /t Sylador on Odin if interested in Joining
Im new to Thf and start using these the other day and all i can say is WOW!. Using Acid + Venom sometimes Blind then Bloddy Bolts in that order until its dead. Im chaining T's in Qufim with my lvl 25 thf/nin and im now 27. I still cant believe how good these are. A bit pricey so i need to start crafting ;) But man these things rock. Peace All
im a 56thf and i use these for soloing, farming, NM hunting just bout everything even when im in exp pty and i run outta reg ammo i use these if i have em on me. i can h.q 99 at a shot most of the time. so really cheap for me.
and last but not least i have drained upto 72hp but if u bolt more than hit with dagger sword etc the drains will not all be the same mine range between ??? & 72 hp. when full hp u only get bolt dmg from mob no drained hp
Ya problem is they cost a lot for non crafters. And even then the bolts are a bit pricy from time to time...that's the only reason keeping me from buying them from time to time.
Regarding the amount of HP drained from a mob, cnosider this scenario. Lets say the mob is even match: would a Lv.1 xbow drain more HP than a Lv.60 xbow? Does the Lv. xbow matter. Yes it will do less "damage" but will they drain the same amount of HP. I must find out. Cuz i like the way Power Crossbow looks, and the AGI+1 is nice. Im a level 72 DRK, so i want to carry Xbow and bloods, instead of bomb core, i threw it on accident >< So i was wondering if i should keep Powercrossbow or upgrade to Armburst (3m on Quetzalcoatl ; ;, you are unable to buy for 2m) Please tell me, i asked several high lv. RNG on my server, but no one really knows for sure, and im not rich enought to test it out. Thanks.
No, the level of bow does not matter for any of the procing bolts. Basically, all it will do is determine the amount of damage you do. Since I do more dmg with my drain then I do with the bolt itself, I don't really consider it too much of a pressing matter to have a high level xbow. But to each their own. What does matter is your <Marksmanship> level. The lower you are the more chance of miss, proc failure, and the less amount of hp drain. Also, what mobs you are attacking. Undead and life draining mobs (e.g. wights, bogies, ghosts and bats) you can not drain at all. Pure magical mobs (elementals, ahriman, hecteyes) you can't drain much out of (I average about 15-20 against them at lvl 40+). However, you get yourself a good beastman and well, you are draining them for more then they are hitting you. I only wish that ninja could use a crossbow, and I don't know why every war/nin out there isn't using them. No offense to the pally, but imagine a tank that can take more dmg, deal more dmg, skillchain, and require no healing during battle... You can keep your 10 million gil gear and give me a tank that uses this:)
And for any thfs out there, these give you infinite farming abilities... imagine never needing to take a knee... hours of farming fun:)... just use wisely:)
Now they just need to make MP drain arrows, and my rdm will be happy:)
The Bloody bolt apears to be one of the best bolts you can have for soling, however there is a misconception on the way these bolts work.. Regarding the HP drain, it always drains HP on hit with the noted exceptions(bats and undead), if you have full HP it just doesn't give you any HP.. it's still drained from the target.. max HP given to me from drain has been right around 48-55hp on my lvl 35 thf.. with 22 marksmanship..
Actually, that is not quite correct. The effect is GREATLY more applicable, however, your level verses the mob level, as well as the mobs resistance to the item. E.g. do not use Bloody or sleep bolts on Undead or Bats... it's just a waste of a perfectly good bolt. I have found that <IT procs (happens) about 100% of the time. However, with IT and stronger (e.g. IT+ or IT++) I get a sucess rate of 99 down to about 80% (IT++). Now don't get me wrong, a thf at lvl 30 using this things against an IT will hit about 40-60% of the time (depending on the food), so, out of 1 stack of bolts, say 40 bolts will hit, out of those 40 bolts 38 of them will drain life. The reason I know this is I tried the lvl 30 BNCM (stupid me was not capped on my Marksmanship at the time) and did the Sleep Bolt trick... We only died once, but we did fail horribly (had the mob within 100 hp 2 or 3 times... which sucks more then being slaughtered in my book... cause if I had just did 1 more sneak attack... or if the RNG did one more Weapon Skill... or if the SMN got one more AF off... shoulda-woulda-coulda:().
Anyways, They are Much better then the weapons, and I swear by them. But 1 you need to cap out your marksmanship... The lvl of marskmanship DIRECTLY effects their ability to trigger. And 2, It will miss from time to time even when you are capped. So expect it to fail once and a while.. Basically, the are the mirror image of a status weapon... Instead of failing every time they succeed every time with a couple of random failures you might miss:).
I solo'd Even Match mobs when raising Marksmanship from over 60 levels below cap, thanks to RNG great accuracy I hit almost every time. Mobs would hit me for about 30-40 dmg, and my HP would INCREASE. I was draining anywhere frmo 40-80 hp. Something has to be said about Bloody Bolts when you can solo a Tough tiger with only one Utsusemi cast when they can do Razor Fangs for easily over 100 dmg. These are UBAR.

#REDACTED,
Posted:Nov 15 2004 at 1:43 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I was recently checking my items at AH in sandy. I had my prized bloody bolts up for sale from my recent synths. To my utter amazement and frustration someone had undercut everyone else by whole 2k. I immediately sent him a tell why he was ruining the Valefor economy on bloody bolts. he told me that it was a mistake and that he had meant to put em up for the regular price(3.2k). It wasnt later that i went back to look anothe time that i found that he had sold 3 stacks at 1k instead of just one. my only question to undercutters is why would you do something like that to an already fast selling item. And if you absolutely must undercut why a whole 2k?
