I leveled NIN specifically to get this sword for RDM, because finding tanks was so incredibly difficult. After spending several several hours and days in SSG, I finally managed to kill it. It only hit me 3 times the whole fight, fight lasted about 15 mins.
Heres a pic. I only had +58 evasion, and double mambo.

I got march and minuet from another brd and haste from whm too, but seriously didn't need it. I only used Ichi most of the fight, it was crazy how much it missed me. Can definately be duo'd with a brd. Not a 100% win if it decides to spam AoE attacks, but definately feasible if the tank turns around while the BRD regains MP so it can't use AoE at a bad time

Duoed him today with brd(me) and thf...
Thf mug pulled it when it was us vs an alliance of like 12 lol
Thfs gear was ok but nothing special but highly skilled player >.>
many close calls (very noticible when mambo or elegy go down)
Fight took 51 minutes (with the whole other alliance watching)
some kinda refresh for the brd is a must i only had vermy but when i go back ill bring some juices too. Malestrom sucks btw.

how is it I read some people had like an alliance and others did it with 2 or 4 people, well I want this baad especially since im leveling ninja I could use it, when I go pal/nin.
No one has confidence in really trying this without a brd. Ninja is necessary yes... Brd is not if you have skillz. My party set up was nin, pld, rdm, blm. We took down Charby with ease actually.
So happy I got my Joyeuse yesterday. For RDMs, it's definitely one of those "gotta have it swords." I've been present to 3 charybdis killings, but never got lucky with lots. (I'm never lucky with lots, and yes, I've lotted 1 before) >.>
I'm still confused on his pop time. Even though most sources say charybdis is an 8-12 hr lottery pop, I got some conflicting info that may suggest it can pop 4-6 hrs. My husband (73 PLD) and I decided to head down & kill PHs and hope for a ToD. We literally walked into the room to see a pty killing him! >< It was 9:34pm EST, so wasn't optimistic about having the ToD, since work would prevent us from camping it. Then I got information from a LS member whose sky LS posted ToD for charybdis was around 2:00am EST. So that means he popped & was killed in about 4.5 hrs.
About 5 ppl in my LS came to help kill PHs a few nights ago, and we got tired & left (esp after a pty w/ nin, brd, and a few others arrived). A DRK in my LS was going to leave his char there to see if he could get ToD overnight, but he DCd really early. >< The next day (which was yesterday) I headed down around noon for a marathon camping session. (I HAD to get this!) During 2nd PH kill, my DRK friend repopped & we started killing PHs. Then a NIN happens to show up & asks to team up. We end up bringing in WAR, WHM x2, and BRD. I think after I was there about 3 hrs, it finally popped, right as 2nd WHM & BRD were arriving.
There are always the same gilsellers roaming around the various rooms of SSG, and for some reason, they check up on Charybdis too. I think this is because he can drop oxblood (though he didn't this time, just joy & a pearl). Luckily we did not have to worry about them camping it this time.
Only NIN & I were lotting, and my lot luck finally paid off. He lotted around 200, and I got around 900. But I could relate to the NIN on his frustration (who has also killed it lots, but never got drop) so we added eachother to Friend Lists, and I told him I'd help him whenever, even though RDM isn't necessary to win, like NIN & BRD are...
So in summary, gotta thank these ppl for my Joy Toy:

WRONG It's been soloed on my server, RDM/SMN carby pulled past the gold door and kited to death... I plan to lv SMN sub just to try it myself...

As tough as it is to believe, it is actually possible to solo kite charby. It's unbelievably tough to get Charby to an area suitable for the strategy, but still possible. Once there, it's just a marathon kite using whatever DOT spells you have combined with Bind and gravity (if it sticks, don't know?). It's not one of those things that any normal player can do. So I tend not to believe most people who claim they did it.

I watched a vid of a 75 taru rdm with gimped sub Blue Mage solo it.
After months of saying "I'm going to go get this", I finally camped out with several LS members. A gesture of kindness, as they were willing to pass on it for me on the grounds that I return with them at later dates to aid them in obtaining theirs. No arguement here.

So my friend decided we were gonna camp this thing today, but our LS had sky, then limbus. we did sky, i logged while they did limbus, and after i log on i find out a RDM in my LS was camping it with a BLM friend of his and just a bit before i logged on they killed Charybdis so the BLM could get the sword...i desperately want this sword for my PLD, well i guess ill have to wait for tomorrow

Honestly that guy's an idiot and that girl is probably not even a girl in real life, and if she is, she's probably as ugly as a freakin' dog.

Oh boy oh boy do I have a story on this.
When my LS went to get my Joyeuse the LS leader's Girlfriend (also RDM, she was lv.69) came along. We were there for 8 hours till we called other LS members.
We decided to /random on who would get the Joyeuse. I rolled 819 and the other RDM rolled 72... she got all pissed and left.
Our LS leader begged her to come back and said we would lot on the weapon again. I agreed (big mistake)...
Anyway we got the claim and killed the NM, I lotted 971 on the sword, she lotted 64. After a bit of silence I was told to pass my lot on sword ... this suprised me. Then she threated to leave the LS and break up with our LS leader if she did not get the drop. Guess what happened? They kicked me out and let her get the drop.
God I love this game

Thas's so sad that ppl have to do crap like that, wish someday she will realized what childish act she did. My advice to you is get off that LS, there are a lot of good LS out there that you can join in and help.

Thats really shameful of that wh0re. I hope she reads this and realize what a pitiful display that is. Yeah i would definately let the story out on your server because something like that is just even more f'ed than stuff in movies...

That's also on a Too Weak Monster. Weapons with Add Effects kick in far more often on Too Weaks then they do Even Matches, much less XP monsters.
The add effect looks to be roughly a 100% TP Spirits Within each time it goes off, which is just sick.

One day there was a taru WITHOUT the ToD, watching gilfinders killing PH's whie waiting for Zuug to pop, and their BRD wanted the sword
then a 75 THF came to hang with the taru and kill Zuug.
after 4 hours Iniin went back to Norg when charby popped and shouted in ls chat for everyone to get there, many came, on his way to norg iniin met 2 friends a beastmaster and a white mage
everyone gathered, there was many death's, but the alliance eventually killed it, Iniin lotted 19 and got the sword on his first time ever to camp it and had no ToD
The End

I adore this sword. I was only waiting two and a half hours with no time of death. A THF/NIN tanked in with double mambo (75BRD/RDM) and I was there as well. A 60-ish WHM and a low 70's BLM and a 75WAR/THF who did too much damage and got owned. Thanks to RocDynasty for running down and helping me. ^^
Rouondhouse IS a Galka PLD w/ Excalibur.

The add effect can do that much, unless you upgrade it as RDM and have sucky HP.
A galka PLD can make that add effect do about 300-400 dmg.
He is NOT a complete newb or ******.. you are, sir.

Once upon a time, a taru had this NM's ToD, which was all fine and dandy. His ls members huddled up and set off to the SSG. Chary popped 30 minute into window! We had him down to 3%, which many shaky things happened.
We wiped.
JP voked the unclaimed Chary and killed it

2/18/06, Rehn has finally completed his Joyeuse journey, with a 2 party Alliance backing him in the motion.
Nearing the end of the window, almost all hope has nearly been lost by him and he wanted to just give up and be a proud owner of being there for Charybdis 21 times and never getting Joy. However, Charybdis pops! And we quickly gathered to buff and prepare for the attack.
@25% health left, a repop threatens the melee line, but was quickly taken by the 2nd PT and in the meantime, Charybdis was taken out before the repop was killed!

What's the drop rate on this? 100%?
Does it still have that long insane window? I heard post patch (1 of them) that Charb's window got shortened or so. Can anyone confirm?

Just got this sword Tonight. Basicly my ls leader told me to get the sword by obtaining ToD. That way when it respawned, ls would come and i would get drop. So i run down to SSG and i team up with a paladin also after it. Sure enough, Charby pops and he calls his ls. I come back 8 hours later, we killed a few place holders and bam there he is. So in short, no the repop timer hasnt changed. Happy Hunting.
I'm not sure about PLD, but when i tank on RDM, Joyeuse is essential to holding hate. If i put on a higher damage sword, such as Martial Anelace, there's still no comparison. I really have a hard time imagining that any sword is better; i even wonder if Excalibur is better. Case in point: last night, the double attack on Joyeuse fired 23 times in a row. That's a lot of hate and a lot of extra damage. I can see a PLD going with Earth Staff over Joyeuse, but not Company Sword.
