With ToAU, this ring is not as effective in 72-75 exp/merit pts (unless you're not pulling, but you almost always do) because a good chunk of the mobs you'll be pulling runs faster than you.

If the party decides to merit in Caederva, you'll have to worry about Jnun auto-aggro you from far away... You may think you want Jnuns to auto-aggro for easy pulls, but if an imp gets around to AoE silence when another mob is pulled into the melee's spot, you're as good as dead. Echo drops are consumable and they rarely last for BRD due to our nature needing to be close to melees to cast songs.

For mamool training grounds (besides the mamools), scoffins, puks, and mamool stabler's raptors will outrun you. If the exp ground gets infested with other parties, you may be forced to do long pulls, which is very risky due to double attacks. If your party gets the place all to yourselves, then this ring is worth the bang for its buck.

Mt. Zaohym (however you spell it) is probably the safest place to use this ring since the trolls don't run faster than you.

Greater Colibris @ Bhaflau via Nzyul Isle is very questionable because there will be times where an accidental linkage occur. Can't use Horde Lullaby or you risk the high possibility in sleeping your whole party. You'll end up needing to sleep the colibri that doesn't have elegy while try to rotate shadows to avoid getting beaten to death by the colibri that has elegy, all the while hoping your party finishes the mob they are working on. I rarely get beaten up here, but at times my HP hits orange because of the scenario stated above, and that is with me starting with full HP. You can run horde lullaby and then run out of range so the colibri puts you to sleep from faraway to prevent the party from going zzzz. But if there's competition in that area, a second asleep is a second late in pulling the next mob whose name will turn purple in a heartbeat. You don't want the healer to put the colibri to sleep because they can be put to sleep when the bird wakes up. risky deal to keep health in yellow.

For HNM/gods/etc... its too risky to keep your health yellow knowing the fact that a random AoE can mean instant death.

don't make macros with huge /waits in them...................

i'll give you an example of how my macros are setp , if i can remember properly hehe

CTRL--
1:Cure II 2:Cure III 3:melee song 1 4:melee song 2 5:paeon 6:ballad 1 7:ballad 2 8:/ta <bt> 9:prelude/threnody 0:requiem(never used -_-)

ALT--
1:finale 2:utsusemi/blink/stoneskin 3:elegy 4:echo drop 5:erase 6:-na spell 7:horde lullaby 8:foe lullaby 9:mazurka 0:curaga

ok now, i keep on a separate set of macros, individual melee songs, min3, min4, bmadrigal, smadrigal, vmarch, amarch, and so on, mambo etc..

and depending on what i need to cast i'll just swap themout into macros ctrl3 and ctrl4, no /wait 10 or anything for one macro, so that way i have control, in case i need to sleep something between casting the songs, or go pull. ballads are always there, separate.

If you do'nt have enough macro space to make them separate, do'nt put like /wait 10 in there.

do it like this:

/ma "Valor Minuet IV" <me>
/equip range "Cornette +1"
/wait 1
/ma "Valor Minuet III" <me>

that way, you hit it once to cast IV, then when IV is done h it it again to cast 3. so that way yuou save space, and can still react without being in the middle of a macro

Ok thats all good and fine but what about song combos that use more than one instrument? A /wait 12 is not that big of a deal, I have no trouble at all recovering from interruption or stopping to Erase the tank just by picking the song from my spell list, since my /wait 12 macro has already equipped the proper instrument for me :)

Equipment Swapping for Minstrel's Ring

I carry a bunch of gear for swapping back and forth to force myself into yellow HP for my Minstrel's Ring. Yellow is <75% HP; to find your target multiply your max HP by 0.75 and round down.

-HP:
Gold Hairpin
Star Necklace
Black Cotehardie
Errant Cuffs
Ether Ring
Astral Ring
Rostrum Pumps

+HP:
Genbu's Kabuto
Choral Justaucorps +1
Bard's Cuffs
Marine F Boots
Powerful Rope
Choral Cannions +1

I want to pick up a Bomb Queen ring for my +HP set, but this stuff does the job.

As BRD/WHM I normally need a /wait 12 between songs, or 11 with Rostrum Pumps. With Minstrel's Ring active, I only need /wait 9. With the ring and /RDM, /wait 8 is enough. Manteel should lower it to 7 if I ever get one...

Incidentally, the description and image are no longer accurate; they nerfed the ring a while back so it now only applies to Songs, not other spells ;_;

Seems like you would have two choices in your macros, which is to never couple more than one song in a macro, say ballad 1 and 2 if they were in the separate macros, then you wouldn't have to worry about the wait times would be different when the latent effect was in effect and when it is not. You could make two macro sets one for when the latent effect is active and one when it is inactive. Seems kinda clumsy any way you look at it, unless someone else has a really good way of making it work.

what i used to do, Is have my normal macro set, and on the double song sets (i.e.two ballads, two minuets) if i knew my latent effect was active i'd go into the song menu when the first song started and spam the second from the menu so it'd start sooner, but i'd still have all the right instruments and armor equiped. It worked pretty well like that, but it was rare that any healer would let me keep my yellow HP.

This Ring + /Rdm = Songs go off at ~53%. Second Song Castable at 70%. Needless to say, your cast times are almost effectively halved. I am extremely curious to try this out with Fast Cast II...and if you really want to get fancy, the Enhance Fast Cast Cape and Sha'ir Body.

Just an aside, a lvl 60 RDM/BRD (with however many Fast Cast Traites they have at that level) land songs at 40%, recast at 60%. Where are the Bard's job traites SE, we want some.

It's true that your songs go off faster.. but..
The total cast time for the song stays the same. So, normally your song actually goes off at 75ish percent, and you can move, but you can't sing another song til that same cast percent is at 95%+..

Well, with this ring, your songs go off around 60% cast time, but, you still can't sing another song til it's 95%+.. So.. in the long run, it's not really useful, unless you need to land a lullaby 2 seconds faster or something.

Actually, you're wrong about the recast time. The song is finished at 60% and you can begin to sing the next song when the casting bar is at 80%. If you are down on MP and injured, the ring is worth equipping if you have a variety of songs to cast on your group.

2-hour? Kicked in for me just fine as soon as my HP hit yellow (and I think even for ever-so-slightly above yellow too - damn that Auto-Regen from /WHM).

It's really quite addictive to be able to get your songs out faster (like having /RDM without having to give up anything useful), although it's a bit annoying to go interfere with a pull occasionally so you get smacked for 100-200 to compensate for Auto-Regen.

The hardest part is explaining to your healers (which includes PLDs, who might heal you just to get hate) that you're trying to maintain latent effect, so lay off on healing you unless your HP hits orange. You also have to dodge Curagas.

Despite the annoyances, it's a very fun item, and worth every penny. Lets you finish getting the party buffed much earlier in the battle, and that's always worthwhile.

The trigger for this latent effect is BOTH yellow life or lower AND use 2 hour.

Wrong: Must have both Yellow Life, AND less than 100% TP. Has nothing to do with your 2hr

I'm seconding this, and to be exact, it's less than 75% hp, and less than 100 tp, I just noticed the TP thing while farming, I started wondering why it wasn't going off, then figured it was the TP, so yeah, <75% hp, and <100% TP and it's on.

The latent effect on this item activates when HP is 75% or less and TP is less than 100%.

(Deleted an incorrect sentence following the above information. Odd to find a post I made two years ago when randomly browsing through items.)

Look again, the item's rare; you can only sport one of these. Does it actually affect song time, or just spell time? Fast Cast (RDM ability) speeds up spell casting time, but not song time.
