this sword is one of Fafnir's treasure and it gives the wielder the power to kill dragons.

Since crimson gear turns you into a dragon, would equiping this sword intimadate yourself?

yes, if you tried to cure yourself or cast anything on yourself, it could potentially.
I think it was a glitch or something, but one of my brd friends actually got intimidated by his own song and he didn't have any 'killer' gear on.

In my opinion, this sword really is not worth using for end-game encounters. Chances are, other PLD or RDM in your LS might be wearing a piece of crimson gear and they will get intimidated by you more often than you will intimidate the NM in question. I'd much rather have my RDM land haste, phalanx II, and cures than wind up intimidated at an inopportune moment. Same goes for a PLD landing a heal on someone with Hrotti equipped.

Outside of end-game stuff, use it for the damage or whatever it is that might make it appealing.

Dual Wield? Nope. That 'Rare' symbol in the top right corner of the item description tells you that you can only own one at a time.
Doubled?
# May 21 2005 at 6:38 PM Rating: Decent
This looks like a great sword but can two be dual wielded?

At first i thought curilla was using a daislaif, but the blade shape is that of an espadon, so it is indeed a hrotti.

Myself, I'll be happy with Joyeuse, but then again, it looks BEST on Red Mages.

this sword is godly, I want it for my PLD so bad. I saw the sword for the first time doing rank 7-1 for bastok, it was on a rank ten 75PLD/20NIN and and when she hit things, you knew it got hit, this sword is very cool
Beautiful

This sword has the most beautiful design in the game it looks just awesome on a paladin wearing AF. I don't care if the Joyeuse has double attack if I had the chance to get only 1 sword in the game I would have picked this one just because of how cool it looks.

Square Enix managed to badly stuff up their translation for alot of item effects.

Enhances Dragon-Killer Ability should be listed as

Dragon-Killer Ability +X

or Gives Dragon-Killer Ability.

They're alot of similar X-killer items around that give abilities to jobs that don't have them.

On the other hand, an item like Suppanomi which has ENHANCES DUAL WIELD, really does just that; ENHANCE, rather than give or impart.
RE: Enhance = Give, in this case
# May 13 2006 at 8:58 PM Rating: Decent
Actually Supponamimi doesn't give or impart. Its one of the few pieces that SAYS Enhances, and really means ENHANCES. Most "Enhancing gear" (Saying this for others) will also give that trait/ability to the user, Supponamimi does not.

This sword looks great for my PLD...whenever I tank a dragon :P My friend was telling me at lvl 70 you go to Kuftal Tunnel and level off Wyvern and something else. I'm sure this would come in handy^^
RE: i want
# Sep 30 2004 at 2:45 PM Rating: Decent
At 70, you won't be fighting Ladon(Dragons in Kuftal)... at least not for EXP. If you are, its hurting your exp rate because there are many Ovonnik(tigers) and Greater Cockitrice to EXP on. There are about 3-5 Ladon pops in the whole lower level of Kuftal and to a level 75 they are vt-it. So a level 75 pt can get decent exp there chaining tigers ***** and picking up a Ladon @1 for a better start or @5 for a nice chain.

This sword is awesome, but you rarely have the opportunity to put it to full use, quite frankly, I think Kuftal is the only place you would EVER fight wvyerns for exp... unless you (for whatever unkown and ungodly reason) EXP in Ifrit's Cauldron.

You may concider using this sword for tanking dragon HNMs... but most PLDs use Earth Staff. I hear there is a new Rare/Ex Shield drops from an NM in one of the expansion areas... that gives -20% physical Damage taken... byebye Staff PLDs...

but thats just a rumor for now.

Hrotti is awesome when you need to fight Fafnir again or Nidhogg. Also, is the bestest when you get to fight Seiryu.

The DMG on this sword is really high and the delay is fairly short, making it the most awesome sword against dragons and wyrms... I would definetly drop my staff for this sword against a dragon.
More useless Norse mythology!

Ridill and Hrotti were magical swords from the Andvari, the treasure of Fafnir, and were taken and used by Sigurd (aka Siegfried, that jerk who betrayed Brunhild and brought about the doom of the Norse Gods).

Dragon killer up on a sword a DRG cant use... weiiiiiiird ......
RE: uhmz..
# Jul 04 2004 at 2:04 AM Rating: Decent
Also, from what I understand anything that says "Enhances" something will make it better if you have it or give it to you if you dont. So if your Pld/War with this you'll get Dragon Killer. Nice eh?
(This is what I understand from others)
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 11 2004 at 6:25 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Unless *gasp* you're subbing DRG?
drg cant use it
# Mar 12 2004 at 4:54 PM Rating: Decent
i relize that this dragoons cant use this sword...and that this sword 'enhances dragon killer effect' a drg only ability

but did you think of the fact that a war/drg would still use dragon killer AND use this sword...

come on people it isnt rocket surgery

Score: Default [2.00] WTF are you talking about you noob dragoon are great for killing dragons thats why they have dragon killer jod trait........... next time think about what your saying before you say it cause when you dont ppl will see you for the noob that you r

Um.. YOU are the NEWBIE. Pay ATTENTION to the ******* story. Dragoons do NOT kill dragons, they view it as taboo. They however DO free corrupted and cursed evil dragons, they do it so they don't suffer and live life through hatred. Did you not pay any attention to the dragoon quest? My god, dragon hunters are the ones who kill dragons out of sheer hatred and disgust for the species.

Too lazy to register - Tapela.
RE: Stupid idiot
# Feb 26 2004 at 7:43 PM Rating: Default
if dragoons dont kill dragons then WHY do they have job abilities and traits like dragon killer, and acient circle?......and when someone is making a party to kill a dragon why do they look for a dragoon to help?
yes according to the storyline of the dragoon quest it shows that we dont "LIKE" killing dragons, but the simple fact is that our job abilities and job traits make us great for killing dragons
so no im not a newbie im just replying to the post of a idiot how dosnt relize that dragoons are the only job with dragoon killer and would be the only job that the sword would help
RE: Stupid idiot
# May 31 2005 at 1:43 AM Rating: Decent
when it says that about dragon killer it doesnt mean it just enhances it, it means you get it if you dont have it, and if you thing dragoons are great for killing dragons, go take your drg and fight nidhogg, then come back and say that jackass
RE: Stupid idiot
# Jun 26 2004 at 11:35 AM Rating: Decent

Cuz dragoons aren't notorious for KILLING dragons, they are known for their ability to work with them.

While it says it 'enhances' it, like most weapons involving skills you may not have, if you don't it supplies it to you. (Like, equip a Triple Dagger on a WAR and they have Triple Attack.)

# Feb 19 2004 at 4:11 AM Rating: Default
I think I saw or heard something about this 1-handed sword being related to Fafnir, the NM, from Dragon's Aery. I'm not sure if that is correct, but this might be a drop from killing it or something like that. I've seen the sword, and it is pretty awesome looking--nice blue blade on it :). And even though its got pretty big delay for a 1 handed sword, I think thats the biggest damage I've seen on a 1-handed sword.
