gowth time
# May 13 2007 at 5:51 AM Rating: Decent
For those who still asking how long it takes to grow, and think 20 days means 20 hours, that is incorrect. Gardening takes lots of time for many plants to grow especially plants you do not use crystals to feed, such as when you are trying to grow saplings.

In Gardening 20 days means 20 EARTH days!

As a matter of protocol when I am gardning, especially with saplings or cuttings, when I log in for the first time in the day, I check my plants, and before I log out for the last time during the "Examine". You can attribute this to watering and pruning a plant on a daily basis.

Just like real life plants you HAVE to care for them, if you want them to grow. For various seeds that you would feed crystals, this is like adding a special kind of plant foow, to yield the kind of crop you want.

Please refer to Pikko's website listed in this thread, for recipes and hints and tips.

When planting cuttings for saplings, do the pots have to be checked every game day for 20 real days? or every 24 hours for 20 days?
Orichalcum Ore
# Dec 29 2005 at 12:19 PM Rating: Excellent
I heard u can grow Orichalcum Ores from Tree Saplings. Can any1 confirm?

Edit 01.07.06
I did an experiment planting 10 saplings in 10 porcelin pots (not sure of elemental day of planting). What i know for sure that i didn't feed any crystal and i never examined on a perticular day but very random (examined on every elemental day). Harvest results were:
9xgold leafs, 10xreishi mushrooms, 2xlights ore.
And in case you are wondering I harvested on Firesday???!!! O.o

Hops thats info helps and still hoping to know if its posible to grow orichalcum ores from saplings.

Ok I hope this post helps all of you new sapling growers out there.

First and most important, saplings can only be grown from tree cuttings which are dropped off Gobbues in various areas. Getting these drops can require some patience even with TH2, so be patient and eventually you will get lucky. I struggle with the argument of it being quicker to farm other things for gil and then just buy the cuttings to plant. By this argument, it would also be quicker to skip the cutting stage and move right into saplings (if you plan to grow ores). Decide which is best for you. I personally enjoy being self sufficient.

Now then my experience has shown that the day on which the sapling is planted makes very little difference. Remember, in planting a cutting, you are guaranteed a sapling result. As for pot, porcelain will decrease the grow time by a little. As for whether or not you should run out and buy all porcelain when your MH is already full of a different type of pot? Unless you plan to become a full time grower, don't bother. The time shortened is only about a day, and doesn't effect the results. I initially bought 4 porcelains replacing 4 of my bronze pots. I had a good string of drops getting 6 cuttings in one day (about 2 hours). I decided to go ahead and plant in my bronze to compare the difference in yield. There was none. I acquired 2 saplings from each pot. Of note, not all the plants were planted at the same time. I waited to see if I could find more porcelain pots for superstition sake. Eventually I went ahead and planted them.

Eventually you will be prompted to feed a crystal. DO NOT FEED CRYSTALS IF YOU WANT SAPLINGS!! No crystals are required for saplings, just time. After about 20 days, your harvest will be ready. Before harvesting, examine the plants! There are two different messages that can be generated.
"Kupo! This plant is ready to be picked, kupo!"
"This plant has grown so big and is ready to be harvested, kupo!"
(These are para-phrases as I can't remember the exact wording, but this is close enough to recognize the correct message you're looking for)

I have never received less than 2 (yes 2!!) sapling when harvesting after the the moogle says the first message. Remember you can examine the plants more than once to get the right message.

Well, there it is folks, the secret to hq harvest is out.

/em watches as his rating dwindles to 0.

You can be in either your home countries MH (ie can access storage items) or can be in a rent-a-room. It doesn't really matter. Though I have read somewhere that being in the country from where the pot originates increases chance of a hq yield.
And, no I'm sorry it's 20 real life days. It's a long time investment. But very worth it. It will effectively double your money put in every harvest even if you only get one sapling per pot. Getting more than one is just a welcome bonus.

Okay I read all the posts. Just to make it perrrfectly clear~ what am I supposed to plant to get tree saplings? And what crystals am I to feed them to make them grow? is there a particular day i should plant them? Oh, and do I need a special flower pot? should I be a Taru to garden? should I garden with my gear on, or should I strip all my armor and garden all natural? any help on this subject would be kind. >^-^<

# May 21 2005 at 7:05 PM Rating: Excellent
I planted the tree cuttings and every time I go to check them, it says "These Plants aren't doing so well" when it has the option to feed it a crystal, and I constantly check them about 2-3 times a day. Am I doing something wrong? Are my trees going to die? Help me out here please.

One main thing to keep in mind if anyone is trying to get an elemental ore. It is NOT 100% success rate. Some people have said it's about 50% but I think it's even lower than that. You could do all the planting and feeding and harvesting all according to the recipe and still end up with no Elemental Ore. All you can do is follow the guidelines and hope it all works out.

Anyone know where to find recipes for the elemental ores? I'm working on getting goldsmithing up and will one day be making the gems and I REALLY dont want to have to shell out 100k+ for EACH SYNTH. And in response to the last post about erasing the recipe list that was on here earlier, this won't be stealing anyone else's profits...if I can't grow the ore, I won't be using it in synths until I can and I'm not going to be selling these.

Element affiliation

Seeing as each of the seed types are affiliated with an element, are saplings also affiliated with one?
Tree saplings
# Oct 24 2004 at 3:38 AM Rating: Excellent
Okay everybody I'm going to post this only because I got tired of reading the same thing over and over again.

To get Tree Saplings:
Plant Tree cuttings in a porcelain pot on ice day. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT feed them any crystals at all. About 2-3 weeks after you planted them you will yield 1-2 Tree Saplings
Note: This is the only way, and I do mean the only way to get Tree Saplings

What are tree saplings used for??
Tree Saplings are used in the growth of elemental ore, elemental clusters, and leafs. Other stuff is manageable however I haven't gotten anything else from these yet.
I hope this helps everybody out.

I planted 1 tree cuttings on Firesday and 3 on Iceday.Harvested on Windsday with the moon at 98%.I harvested 2 tree saplings from each plant. They were ready to harvest when the moon was 50% or so but I waited for the Full Moon.So 4 cuttings produced 8 sapplings in 2-3 weeks.I think the day you plant isn't so important. How many ways have you tried?

odd way of ice ore
# Oct 14 2004 at 2:37 PM Rating: Decent
I went to that website about gardening, that had the spreadsheet, pretty nice stuff

anywayz, I got ice ore in a rather odd way

i planted some saplings in a Brass pot, no idea which day, then I fed no crystal the 1st time, then i fed it a ice crystal on iceday the 2nd time, then I harvested on iceday and got ice ore :D

i also had another saplings growing, which I gave no crystal, then 1 fire crystal on firesday, then harvested on the same day as above, and got 3x reishi mushrooms out of it

I think that ice ore harvest is very o.0

if you are trying to get the saplings, then you should NOT have fed it crystals

He's obviously going for the ore, which he said he got one. So you're post is as useless as half the ones on this site.

Now to help you out, I was told the following which has worked for me perfectly. Plant on darksday regardless what ore you want, but plant in porcelain pots. Feed it the crystal of the ore you want on that elements day, (i.e. Feed fire crystal on firesday for fire ore). Then again when possible on the next firesday.

Also you need to keep in mind you can't always get an ore because gardening is not an exact science, but by doing it that way I've have some good success with it.

Good luck, happy growing
