Correction on subs
# Jan 17 2006 at 10:25 AM Rating: Decent
This is a lvl 94 Alchemy synthasis, but the subs are not 34 Goldcraft and 18 Smithing. They are in fact the oposite 18 Goldsmithing and 34 Smithing. I hope this helps anyone attempting to craft these.
TP
# Aug 20 2005 at 10:31 PM Rating: Decent
75 rng/sam
1. build TP
2. sidewinder/slug shot
3. meditate - 60 TP
4. shoot 3 times (about 5-10 seconds) while TP charges
5. sidewinder/slug shot
6. sharpshot
7. barrage
8. switch to gun (600-800 delay)/sarnga (700+ delay)that will build a 90+TP about 75-90% of the time.
9. sidewinder/slug shot
10. and if you really want to die, throw in a Eagle Eye shot.

SAM gets 80-100 TP from Meditate, 120-140 with AF Helm, 160-180 with AF Helm + AF2 Gloves. Get your facts straight.

Second, Meditate is a 3 minute timer - not 5.

That is actually incorrect....

Sam gets 100 TP with Meditate, the only reasons you get the odd 80 is if you did something to mess it up like /sit.

Secondly yes its 120-140 TP with the AF.... however... the Gloves add the exact same enhancement thus....

140 - 180 TP with AF Helm + AFv2 Gloves.

And yes Meditate is a 3 minute timer, but samurai mains can merit it down to 2:30.

I know a RNG who can Slug Shot Kirin for over 1400 damage with Steak and dual BRD songs and of course the Culverin.
It is a pretty horrifying weapon when pimped out RNGs use it.
Clearing things up
# Feb 08 2005 at 5:14 AM Rating: Default
Ok to Clear up anything here, Culverin and Cannon Shells can only be used together. Other guns cant use Cannon Shells, Culverin cant use other bullets. As for the -10 ranged accuracy on the culverin, at lvl 75 with a well equipped ranger thats nothing, Half a Ranger's gear endgame gives +10 ranged accuracy so it offsets 1 peice of armor. I still hit Kirin regularly with the culverin and with good barrages and about a 90% hit rate on slug shot.

As for 3610 on a flamingo, I highly doubt it, theres this little program called Adobe Photoshop

The Ranger building TP as fast as sam is a bit of an overstatement, but it is true, Ive done it myself, becoming a makeshift sam and SC with 2 other melee. However Rng is not as effective as a Samurai for multi chaining. its more of a good ranger rarely misses where a melee that has alot of acc gear can still miss a bunch.

"I regularly see level 55 RNG's Slugshot IT's for 1.5k MINIMUM and upwards of 2k. As a RNG I build TP FASTER than SAM."

Lol, that's a joke. I'm a 60Pld on the Fairy Server, and Rng's are lucky if they do upwards of 700Dmg with Slugshot on IT mobs.

Rng's and Blm's are different jobs with different qualities. Blm's can burst, do good Dmg, and D2 you when the party ends. Rangers can pull, do good Dmg, and can SC. One of the major factors about a SC is having the Blm burst it. You can't say one is better than the other, cause it's apples and oranges.

And as for Rng's building TP faster than Sams, that's a comical statement, Sam's have meditate which instantly gives them ~72TP, which means that Rng's have to get off like seven shots, while Sams only have to get off three.

When you compare jobs you have to compare there parts in the SC, Rng's start light SC's like Drg's, so if you're going to compare them to anyone, compare them to Dragoons.

#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 23 2005 at 7:05 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) dang i don't know what crappy rangers you party with, but I was party-ing with a rng (a friend on my LS) when he got sidewinder/slugshot, and i swear it was hitting for 1K-1.5K at the time. oh and i heard that the same rng hit Darkspark for 2500+ when he was still only in the high 50's (although i don't know what DS would con as around that level).

actually rng can build TP faster than sam. when using cross bow and hitting barrage(instant 70ish tp if hit for max). i wont say that will always beat a sam, but i have done it a quite few times.

A RNG building TP faster than a SAM is only possible when using Barrage. Though they may be able to keep up with a SAM they will never actually win in a TP battle. As a 75 RNG I have been able to build TP incredibly fast compared to other jobs and played the part of SAM (chained with multiple people in 1 fight).

I stand strong by my opinion that every job has it's purpose and in the right party every job/player can be great. Yes this includes DRG, the only reason i never party with them is that i can't chain with them for crap lol.

Best situation for these...

the only good reason to get a stack of these is to Macro them w/ unlimited shot, then do slug shot w/ them... They are too costly to be using every shot, and silver bullets are almost just as good.

This + the Culverin does more damage than any other weapon or spell in the entire game. They only stack to 12, if they stacked to 99 it would completely ***** up the game balance (with barrage a RNG would be able to 0wn anything with 99 of these in a stack) And even as is, it's still way overpowered.

I'd have to agree that stacking to 99 would make these things a bit too powerful, but, honestly, a Silver Bullet, level 50, does 81 damage. This, level 73, does 90. Now, if you want to carry around a stack of 12 of these to switch off ammo for your Sidewinder + Unlimited Shot, that's a good idea, but I don't think anyone in their right mind would use this as primary ammo when Silver Bullets are sitting there at 1/8 the cost, most of the damage, and 1/8 the inventory space.

Anyway, the Cannon Shell isn't overpowered, at least it's not if you're going to say Silver Bullets aren't.

Ancient magic (Freeze, Tornado, Flare, etc) does more damage than the gun/shell combo you mentioned... at least a normal shot. Sidewinder or Barrage I can't speak for. Ranger's supposed to be the most powerful job. The black mages should be happy with what they have, even if it is weaker. =P
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 14 2004 at 1:12 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) rng is not always the most powerful job. Mnk at 65+ is more powerful hit for hit and over time. my mnk at 74 is hitting for 120 a hit to an IT and is hitting twice as often as a rng would. plus if u add in my asuran fists which is about 1k if 3 hit which is easy an very possible but if u hit with all of them i have done up to 3-4.5k dmg with this one. mnk outdamages rng quite easily at 65+. now if u count magic then blm is the most powerful.

Not sure what that gun/shell combo you mentioned does, but Flare can magic burst up to 1,400+ (Or so the Alla posts tell me). Two pluses of using strong mages vs. strong rangers is that

#1) Not worrying about running back to town for more ammo
#2) Ammo = $$ ; MP = Free. :)

Now, granted, I'm the kind of guy who keeps his mog safe so stuffed that he only rarely has more than tree or four open safe/inv slots to work with. Someone with a little more room, who can carry ten stacks of ammo, might not find #1 as annoying. Same goes for people who can spend the cash on ammo. I've got more important things than ammo to throw money at for the moment. But hey, that's just me and my situation.

everytime I PT i have my parser running and NEVER and i mean NEVER has a blm had a better damage over time than me, not even close, in fact they are usually 30-50% behind me in DoT. only time they egt up to my DMG is on bursts which they can only do AFTER a renkai. as for your #1, i dunno what kinda terrible RNG youve been PTing with but ive never ran out of ammo in the middle of a pt, i always bring with me 9 hours of food and 9 hours of ammo (25 stacks usually). Any good RNG knows that having ample supply of consumables is fundamental. as for #2, no mp is not free, its mp thats makes us have to wait inbetween battles.

being a rng is the art of throwing cash at a monster until it dies, if you dont have the cash dont be a rng =P

as for the cannon shell idea, it deosnt work, you have to switch from your hellfire to your culverin which takes away your TP so using these for slugshots wont work, and that icky -12acc on culverin in the long run might kill your barrages more than the small amount of dmg added by using this ammo, the 9 dmg isn't worth the slightly increased chance of missing.

After seeing that; everything else seems weak. I wish I could have gotten a SS of that thing tho...

yeah but what was the level difference??

i was playing with a WAR friend of a friend who likes to show off, and we killed a couple mobs < lvl 5 to see how our damage compared. @the time my elemental magic damage was maxing out around 120, and the WAR was so happy that he was doing as much or a little damage as a BLM. but then we starting fighting mobs taht were actually our level, and his damage went down to 10 or so per hit, while mine stayed about the same.

with physical damage, mob def. plays a huge role, so level difference affects it a lot, so unless you were out with this uber high level RNG watching him fight mobs his own level (with a party of course), which i doubt, it doens't mean a lot.

MB does mean a lot on teh other hand, since you can't really set up a SC+MB on TWTBW, and even if you could, nobody would. on the other hand, 1.4K damage is meaningless wihtout knowing what lvl they were (and it would be nice to know what they were fighting)

I imagine that the RNG was below the BLM. I regularly see level 55 RNG's Slugshot IT's for 1.5k MINIMUM and upwards of 2k. As a RNG I build TP FASTER than SAM. I get off at least two Weaponskills a fight if not three. Some RNG/SAM (60+) have started showing up having seen the power of DRG/SAM. I simply cannot imagine how a RNG/SAM would have any level of hate control what-so-ever.

Regardless, a RNG out damages even a Tarutaru BLM from level 50 to at least 70. Not theorycraft, telling you want I've seen with my own eyes (why I can't speak past 70). People have run parsers confirming this time and time again.

A lot of the Advanced jobs are "Upgardes" from their base job counter parts. You see where a PLD upgrades a WAR, though it is no replace for it. RNG simply upgrades a BLM but is no replace for it. I'd much rather have a BLM by my side when fighting a Slime or Undead.

RE: Correction
# Dec 28 2004 at 6:20 AM Rating: Decent
completely right and my own parser logs can prove this, ever since level 30 I outdamage the BLMs in my pt AT LEAST 30-50%, a blm will go say 3k dmg in a fight, i pulled 4500. over the course of 50 battles against a very good blm i averaged 50% more than him, numbers dont lie, a blm cant outdmg a rng (unless hits a really bad rng) even against high def mobs like crabs.

One of the Rangers on the forum has a SS of him using Slug Shot.

3160 damage to an IT Flamingo.

RE: Correction
# Jun 17 2005 at 4:36 AM Rating: Decent
There's no way Slug Shot would ever do that much dmg to an IT, unless things change dramatically after lv60. So far, the most dmg I've done to an IT mob with Slug or Sidewinder is about 800.

Just like to point out that I've seen that screenshot too, and in his Slug Shot macro, he says "Slug Shot 4x the damage!!" or something like that. A normal shot of his does 272 dmg, and 4x 272 is 1088.

That's a long way from 3k dmg >.<

Ranged attacks have a dmg bonus on (i believe) any flying things, and he could have reached 3k w/ dia 2, acid bolt, choke, berserk, and warcry if he was /war

another thng you ar forgeting is there are crazy ppl w/ relic. a relic weapon can deal 2-3 times your normal dmg, and i guessig this counts for a WS as well, so aa slugshot could very likly deal 2-3k on an IT mob

The ONLY use cannon shells have according to my higher up rng friends is for the Culverin and it's +1 version. They only work in that gun, and they are the only type of ammo you can use for it.
