Tonko does not cause you to get aggro from bombs, I repeat, Tonko does NOT cause you to get aggro from bombs. Just to clear that up...

i cant second the fact that tonko doesnt make bombs (and elementals) aggro.. my proof is the fact i saw a ninja start casting utusemi in front of an elemental that, im guessing, he didnt notice until he finished casting.

i was kinda hoping hed aggro it away from our party.. but oh well

I was partying in the Valley of Sorrows the other day when this huge turtle thing appears and starts chasing after a PLD. Turned around to find out it was an Adamantoise that an alliance behind us was fighting (wonder how I missed them all behind me... o.0), which we ended up watching them take out rather quickly.

Apparently it dropped an adaman ore, and from what the Whm said, it's a fairly common drop from Adamantoise.

Perhaps that could be the sudden source of it?

When Adaman ore was still selling at 100k on my server, going mining there at the right time would net on average 40 to 50 k/h when you know all the mining spots and you go there with never more than 1 or 2 other miners (it's average : sometimes you get incredible runs of 4 adaman in 2 hours, and sometimes nothing in 3 hours).
This week end prices dropped all of a sudden in 24 hour from 95k to 55k on Gilgamesh, and with still 50 adaman ore for sell they might drop even more... I am wondering if this comes from another source (gardening?) since there hasn t been much more people mining; but anyway if prices stay so low, mining in Iffrit will become absolutely pointless (or mining for orichalcum, but the demand is very low...) : 20-25k/hour would be even worse than Gusgen. Might as well save all the trouble and stick to Yughot/Palsb.

I suppose (and I hope) that it's just a market thing that won't last. Maybe there is another reason, and a new source of this ore, though..?

I decided to try mining in Ifrit's after last weekend's patch and I'm really pissed right now because when I went mining, adaman ore was going for 110k, but as soon as I put it up, the price kept dropping far below my undercut to the point where it's at 80k right now. The risk of mining at Ifrit's is definately not going to be worth it anymore because of this new source of adaman ore (there's like 70+ on AH right now so I expect prices will be dropping a lot more) If that's so, then the only population of Ifrit's is going to be beastmasters. :P I don't really think the new source of adaman ore is gardening, because I know the recipe for adaman ore, and this sudden increase in adaman on the market came right after the patch. Something new must drop this quite often, and if anyone is willing to share any info about it, it'd be appreciated.

i'm a lvl 27 rdm and i was bored so being my gutsy self i decided to head to ifrit's cauldron. get inside, casted invisible/sneak/deoderisze and came across a mining point within 5 minutes. 3 strikes later i'd dug up iron sand and adaman ore. mabye i got lucky (i think i did) but i'm now 100k richer for 5 minutes of work. needless to say i'll be heading back there when i'm out of money :D

Hey Layzee it's me Sano ^_^

My guess is that with lot's of other popular items, once there always seems to be many, many on sale at the AH...more and more people are probably lowering their prices little by little so their's will sell soon

That's the way it's been with the Jujitsu Gi lately...it's gone from 150k to almost 95k in like a week

Just wanted to clear this up. The volcanic gases do aggro magic but they have never aggroed on to me when casting tonko or utsusemi. Ive mined there the past couple days with a red mage friend. Every time he is killed its because he was too close casting his spells. I can cast right behind and the mobs dont notice. We've managed to dig up 4 adamans by the way.

I went through 20 stacks (yes, 20) of greens in Meriphtaud Mountains today, not a single Adaman Ore. Luckily I got enough Lizard Molts to make up for my losses, but I'm still not satisfied.

Does the riding gear affect digging results? Are there certain places where the digging results are better? Or is it all basically a big lotto and I have crappy luck?

ninjutsu is technically magic, so tonko would get you aggroed

Can anyone confirm this?
not sure

Not sure, but I hear Ifrit's Cauldron. Sneak/Invis help, but the bombs there detect by magic so be careful while casting them.

That's correct. Ifrit's is unsafe even for a lvl 75 (they'll get agro in certain places), so it's recommended that you take some invis powders and silent oils (this assuming you have the spells, as things such as bombs agro magic... if you don't have the spells, then get a few stacks of the powders and oils). I have yet to come across a map with mining spots marked, so I've been pretty much sticking to Gusgen mines.

Ifrit's Cauldron is not too terribly difficult to mine. As Kujata mentioned, all levels can get aggro there, so in most cases, a mid-level character has about as much chance of succeeding as a high-level character.

I mined there as a White Mage for about 2 weeks straight. Because the bombs aggro magic, there were very few places where I could cast the spell invisible--I ended up burning through several stacks of Prism Powder.

The mining points are not too difficult to locate. They spawn almost (key word being almost) exclusively in the caves. I had memorized most of the mining points within a day or two. A map of all the mining points is hardly necessary. To get to the vast majority of the mining points, however, you will have to pass through a Flame Spout. This randomly goes away at times, but sometimes it can take several hours. Trading an ice cluster to the flame spout will make it go away for long enough to make it through. The flame spout is guarded by a bomb, so you will have to time it right to get through safely.

Most of the mining points are not too terribly difficult to mine. The bombs tend to wander away if you give them enough time. Sometimes they don't, so your timing is key. I found that if I waited for them to look away, I could get at least 3 hits in before they started moving again. Macros for using the pickaxes and the Prism Powder came in handy here (/item "Pickaxe" <t> and /item "Prism Powder" <me>).

The mining areas are populated mostly with bombs, so I found myself using Prism Powder much more often than Silent Oil. Still, you'll need Silent Oil for the bats, raptors, hecteyes, and maybe wyverns if you go through those areas. The bees and lizards do not aggro.

By the way, it seems like Ninjas may have a huge advantage here. I'm not sure if Tonko:Ichi is technically considered magic, but if it is not, then I would assume that the bombs would not aggro it. Using this would be a lot cheaper than investing in Prism Powders. Additionally, if the Ninja gets aggro, then their 2-hour ability is an easy way out.

Finally, I would also keep a macro handy for Warp or using a Instant Warp scroll. I found that as a Level 50 White Mage, I could almost always get Warp off in time to save myself if I got aggro (depending on which bomb hit me, I would last 2-5 hits).

Flame Spouts.. go down every 5 minutes or so, just find cast sneak+invisi on yourself, sit down, grab a sandwich and wait. It's not hour like you describe.

Just to be the devil's advocate, songs too are considered magic, yet they do not aggro. However, you are right, ninjitsu does aggro.

Nope...wrong on this one. I mine in the Cauldron, and only the Cauldron, and cast Tonko all the time. Doesn't matter if I'm right in front of the bomb either. Having a NIN sub for here is VERY handy =P
