I have a friend i talked to about this, he is a lvl 75 bst, wearing full god armor, and the Suzaku scythe (if that may mean anything)

He actually had some made recently, so he showed it to me, most of you should know... its a black mandragora, but anyways, it will stay at whatever lvl you are, so if your lvl 75, it will be lvl 75, also there is no HQ version of this.

Yhis pet is more made for SIC, it is not sumthing to try to fight with, SIC is capable of doing 2 things, if yout pets TP is above 100%, it will preform a regular madragora TP skill, if your TP is
below 100% then it will cast special black magic, the magic depends on the homunculus's lvl, unfortunatly I havent had the time to test this for myself, but I have seen it in action, and a pet casting things like flare... can be a very nice thing.

Lies. Don't listen to this guy these are rumors that have been around since the jug existed. It does NOT CAST ANY MAGIC!

DOES NOT CAST ANY MAGIC EVER EVER EVER!

Most of the people trying to make you think it does are trying to sell them on the AH.

I've tried using Sic before the Homonculus could get in his first hit. Believe me, he got NO hits in, and Sic did nothing til he got 100%.

I've tried using Sic at mid-level TP, at 100%.

Every damn time, normal Mandy attacks after he finally hits 100%.

Till I see some screenshots, I'm calling bullsh*t. :/ What a waste.

I'm pretty sure this doesn't cast magic. I used it once in Rolanberry Fields and pretty sure I hit sic before it had tp cuz it did Leaf Dagger w/o me using Sic once. So it either just felt like doing it or was waiting for tp to do the Sic I told it to do. I'd go with the later. I think the rumor that it uses magic is based on the bcnm40 that has a black mandy that's a blm. There are other black mandies. I know the ones in boyada tree don't cast any magic.

# Feb 03 2006 at 1:26 PM Rating: Decent
I dunno what people say about this. Out of my experience it is an expensive waste of time. It has very little DD, its accuracy blows, and I never got to see it use any TP before I died at the hands of a Solicitor in Promyvion-Vahzl. I had at least by then managed to let off 2 spinning axes, this thing was barely near 80% TP.

you all know.... that SE is in part responsible for the production of the anime FMA? It's true, look up the FMA main page. That being said, that is definately a refrence to FMA, since SE has a record of throwing in goodies in games that are from other games they've made (ie: the poster of Tifa in Xenogears, Masamuna in Chrono Trigger). Granted that the philosiphers stone it an actual myth (oxymoron if I ever saw one), SE being involved in the production of FMA can't be ignored. The fact that the idea had existed before the anime just makes it more believible than just throwing something in the blue... like calling a NPC Sephiroth and giving it silver hair >.>; long time fans of SE when it used to be called Squaresoft... notice the title you get when you do the Samurai flag quest? ^-^;

You're not totally correct. As long as it doesn't have 100% TP, it will use Magic when you use Sic. It works the same as the Hecteyes in Attohwa Chasm. Go try it out. I got my hands on this jug last night, and decided to **** away 100k and use it in BCNM. We were doing Royal Jelly, so I figured it would be good for it, since Jelly don't have much magic resistance. Boy was I glad. <3

the only actualy -anime- reference I've seen yet in this game, is the title of Vampire Hunter D-Minus.
Everything else is mythological/historical references, same as every other FF game. It's just that 11 can use even more of it, since it's an MMO.

No it shouldn't read on and you'll see why it's a mandragora.

Quote:
A variant method for creating a homunculus cited by other alchemists involved the use of the mandrake. Popular belief held that this plant grew where the ***** sometimes ejaculated by hanged men during the last convulsive spasms before death fell to the ground, and its roots vaguley resemble a human form to varying degrees. The root was to be picked before dawn on a Friday morning by a black dog, then washed and "fed" with milk and honey and, in some prescriptions, blood, whereupon it would fully develop into a miniature human which would guard and protect its owner.

The latin name for mandrake is Mandragora officinarum, so it should definatly be a mandragora.

yea, Lobivopis is right. Philosophers stone has been in history and stuff... think its the thing that allows ppl to make stuff into gold. SE nor FMA invented this. So, no, it is not a coincidence that FF and FMA share the name, it is history.
Haven't seen the last few episodes of FMA though so never got full explanation of Homonculi (evil VCR broke, used to record adultswim segment, then watch in the morning :p). So thanx for that whole "hanged man" stuff.

very well informed and well done on your research. not many people realize that SE went into history, science, and fiction to get ideas for items, monsters, and artifacts to put into the FFXI game. yes you are soo on the money, and if im not mistaken (my bst is only 13) homunculus is a mandy, though i have never seen it used or summoned. but i say again very well researched. Hey guys, the reason this mandy is so important is because its an uncapped jug. It lvls up to 75 with you. So does courrier carrie but this jug is so much better at higher lvls... but at lower lvls the jugs all do about the same, like crabs and courrier carrie, up to about lvl 55 do the exact same thing

I used another one a while ago while doing the BST AF2 (boots) quest just to see what would happen. Nothing... good thing I had such high level help that I was only using the pet for the sake of a test.

I decided to use this Jug one more time and went to Qufim. I two-houred it so i'd have plenty of chances to Sic [Time: 6:51 PM]. Once again, did some basic Mandy skills and that's it. Then, 15 minutes later it disappaeared...

I used Sic exactly every two minutes (it wasted enough mobs to get 100% TP while I waited on the counter), so it tried 7 skills and not a single time did it do any magic.

Does anyone know if there are some specific circumstances or requirements for itto do black magic? Or is it random, and therefore a total waste of time/money?

I bought this in Jeuno AH for 6k just to see what in the world it was. I summoned it and it looked sickeningly cool - a black Mandy pet.

It's melee (the typical Mandy double attack) kinda sucks, but I didn't give a crap, I just wanted to Sic and see it blast a mob into pieces. First time, it did some regular Mandy special. Second time, another regular special. Third time, same special as the first. It was now dead after so many TP gaining fights.

Sweet Jebus what a waste of my time. I know this has some high level black magic, but what the hell are the chances of it using those when it still has the main Mandy attacks!? Don't bother using it unless you wanna ***** around and/or are a rich ******* with thousands upon thousands of gil to blow.

Of course, I'll probably buy another one soon enough - I want to see those magic specials, but I sure don't wanna waste my time using these things to fight.
