Coffer problem..
# Jul 22 2007 at 3:00 AM Rating: Decent
So heres the thing... I have a 55WAR... I started the AF hands quest with WAR right before i took up MNK(AF hands for WAR is in crawlers nest.. same as AF hands for MNK is in crawlers nest...) my MNK is now 52 and im getting the AF ready... so i poped the coffer here last night as MNK and "Obtained Hi-reraiser!" ... soo err ok i realise that i havent done MNK AF1 so i do that... and i did the lv52 AF boots quest too... come back get another key and pop tyhe chest again... "Obtained 8,000gil..." ok so now im thinking i have to do the WAR AF hands quest first... get another coffer key.. pop the chest as war... then kill dark spark... then repeat with MNK... i really dont want to do this as it means i have to get 2 further coffer keys... Or wasting time getting WAR AF i dont need yet... and get help TWICE with dark spark... is there any way around doing the WAR part of this so i can just carry on with MNK?
please help xD

You must complete Borghertz's Warring Hands and then open Borghertz's Striking Hands before you can start collecting items from coffers for your MNK.

Here is a link to Borghertz's Warring Hands. You do not need to complete WAR AF.

i went to fight the helm beetles for a coffer key with a few ls members a 66mnk 71pld and a 72whm im a 60 mnk we killed the beetles sooo easy didnt even need any healing and got the key on the 3rd drop but ive been there leveling b4 aswell and have seen the key drop often from beetles so i think there your best bet for the coffer key....good luck and hahope it goes as well for you as it did for me...although we didnt have time to search for the chest so that may be a different story!

Decided to finally get my AF gloves for BST this week, partly because this quest is blocking the two quests for the BRD AF pieces I want.

I've spent over three hours soloing helm beetles, crawler hunters and knight crawlers, no drop. I started on beetles, and when they failed to give up a key I moved up to knight crawlers, also no luck. So then I whacked both crawler hunter spawns several times over, ton of scorp bits and pieces but no key.

I'm gonna go back when the moon phase is better (ie full). See if that helps. This drop is a pain in the ***.

I decided to take advantage of the numerous beastmasters, npc levellers etc in the area, and sent polite tells asking people if they would mind inviting me and letting me lot if they had a key drop they didnt need. Within two minutes of entering the zone, I had my key ^^

Just want to say that Horn fly's dont drop coffer. I jsut soloed some and it gave me a chest key instead of a coffer...
RE: .
# Feb 12 2006 at 8:31 PM Rating: Decent
It's likely it is a typo of Dragonfly. There are a bunch of dragonflies around the area on the way to the other exit out to Rolanberry. They're the same level as the other key droppers, and the coffers spawn right next to 'em as well.

I was just wondering, could a level 54 BST get this key solo? or would I need some help?

I know your question was like 4 years ago, but to the other BSTs questioning this... yes you can solo. Very slow battles though.

At LV54 Helm Beetles will be Very Tough or Incredibly Tough. You will be feeding roughly 4-6 pets per fight. Quite agonizing if I do say so myself, but at least you can solo it 54. Good luck and be safe.

The position is down the tunnel at G-9 on the third map. Basically, it's in the "donut" shaped area where the "secret" room is. Run past the secret room and take the forced right until you hit a corner and the tunnel is near there. You should see a fairly large circular room with Rumble Crawlers leading to another tunnel. The beetles are straight down the tunnel.

I just got done farming a coffer key in 12 minutes... I'm just lucky. I killed 2 Helm Beetles by myself as a 69 BLM. The second one dropped the coffer key, and I told the lower level party that was pissed off at me for taking their leveling mobs that I was leaving now that I had my key <(^_^)> This was my first attempt to kill something that showed Easy Prey, high evasion and defense at my level. Took almost all of my 903mp and about 2/3 hp. I even got a little xp-- 23 on the first one, 32 on the key dropper.

It's late and I have class at 8 a.m. tomorrow, but this story needs to be told, because it's too remarkable. My brother is a 56 whm and I'm a 57 mnk. We both needed the coffer for our AFs. This was the only night that we both had free in the past couple weeks, so we decided to try to put together a coffer party. It didn't go well at first. Our linkshell members were off doing other things, and shouts in jeuno didn't garner any replies. Hoggle (my brother) told me that he could get a 50 drk/thf and a 56 war/nin, but we kept sending shouts for a little while. A 52 brd sent a tell, but once I told him the party set up and he saw that we didn't have any high levels, he said, "nevermind... I'll get it later." The irony of this will soon be obvious.

Well, we didn't get anyone else, so the four of us decided to go by ourselves. I was afraid that we wouldn't even be able to kill beetles ourselves, let alone kill enough of them to get a drop. Hoggle sneaks us all past the rumble room, and the coffer is sitting right there. We can't believe our luck, but we're worried because a bst is killing beetles beside us. Xesus (our warrrior and lord savior) pulls a beetle, and we take it down without much difficulty. We get 100 exp and a coffer key!

Hoggle lots on the key and only has to walk a couple feet to get his AF pants from the box. This is a man who spent three hours with four 75s trying to get his garliage key, and another six looking for the box.

After we recover from the shock of how easy it was, Xesus pulls another beetle. We're getting ready for the long grind of waiting for the second drop, but amazingly enough another key drops! Two for two!

After we're all done laughing, Xesus disbands and leaves after we escort him to the ballroom, but our drk (whose name I can't remember) wants to stick around while we look for the coffer on the off chance that he can find a chest. Hoggle goes AFK and comes back, and the search begins. We go back to the rumble room, looking for chests, but instead we find a coffer in the exact same place the last one was!

So the entire operation took us about an hour from the time we entered CN, and I laugh at the bard that rejected our party!

I'm sure that this isn't going to be helpful to the people who have spent hours looking for a key, mobilizing their entire linkshell. I just had to tell everyone about this. Sometimes you get lucky trying something you don't think will work.

And the next time you're hoping for an ultra rare drop, just pray to Xesus.

I am Lvl 50 partying in Crawlers Nest for xp. We are gaining good xp off of helm beetles. We have gotten 4 coffer keys in an hour, but we do have theif too. To me with a theif you will have a good shot at getting this coffer key.

No, the droprate for these keys really is that good, the moron below you was fighting Wespes, which drop the Chest key.

Treasure Hunter 1/2 does NOT effect rare/EX drops.

First off, Hornflies don't drop this key, so anyone who says they got one off of one is lying of confused.

Second, Wespes drop this key according to many sites, some Japanese and utterly reliable.

Third, the drop rate on these seems to be near impossible, so feel lucky if you got one. I've spent the last 12 hours. Everything started to run together and I got an intense headache from hunting, so I can't tell you how long I was in there, but I guarantee it was at least 11 hours since I played every spare second i could for two days. I was killing non-stop as a 59BST, and even had people come kill with me twice. It's true that I don't have TH2, but after something like 200+ kills, you'd think I have one by now...

Just did this tonight, our setup was:

55 WHM -> Me
56 WAR
59 BLM
61 DRK
61 RNG
and the last person i am not sure cause he was anon

So we find a good camp in one of the tunnels and the rng starts pulling beetles. After about four fights we get our first key. The war needed it as well as me so we casted lots... I got 774 and then he casted 850+ (doh) So we got at it some more. About 10 min later 2nd Coffer Key ^^. Everyone else wants to skill up so I stayed. After a while I thought, hey my blm is coming up on AF quests soon why not get the seeds from the water ele. So I asked the rng to WS for the ele and he finds it. He sneaks and uses camaflogue and pulls the ele back to camp. We kill it and get the seeds. The blm in our pt needed the seeds for his af as well since he skipped it. He didn't bother to cast lots and I got the seeds. We do a bit more skillups and i get my staff to 100 (i know im sooo far behind) and then we check for another Water Ele... The rng finds one, we track it down and kill it and get more seeds. So all in all we were there 45 min got 2 coffer keys and 2 bags of seeds for blm AF.

What leveling would a party (assuming they are the leveling) be able to kill these?
RE: Question

I was just in a party there. We got a total of 4 coffer keys in a few hours at levels 52-54.
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 28 2004 at 9:59 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I don't know. Good question, though, what lvl should you be able to kill a key?

The database needs to be corrected. Spent 4 hours killing wespes, but only got a Chest Key (not a Coffer Key) to drop.

If you think wespes drop the coffer key you're in for an unpleasant surprise.

but at least me and my duoing buddy were making decent xp at it at the same time, so it wasnt a complete waste of time.
i have also submitted a correction request.

If a mob drops one key, it will not drop the other. This mob only drops the chest key.
