I camped this NM 2x and the first time it was me and a lvl 75 rdm/37 nin JP LS member we got no drop but stonega 3 and some antican stuff. I went today for my Bday with lvl 74 Blm friend who subbed whm and i went as 56 Blm. We stuck around for a hour and a half killing off the placeholder. (btw spawning goes in order usually HHPPS) Killing off the signifier and its buddies we were just about to give up and he pop in the corner like a scared piggy. We jumped it from behind since it waaas staring at the corner lol and dragged him to a tunnel. Killed him and it dropped but got the same items me and rdm got so if you get Centurio to kiss the floor chances are you will get 3 if not more items from him. Mind you neither of us had Thf subbed.

I camped this thing like 7 times but actually only stayed 6 of the times cuz we all got tired one of the times we camped. So technically 5 of the times I camped it, I had TH2 and the cloak didn't drop any of those times. We got like every single item listed that Centurio X-I drops except the cloak lol. But finally on the 7th camp, he dropped it XD and its ironic cuz it was the time we had the least people and no TH2 lol. It was me 56BLM, 61RDM, and a 73 BLM. I love this cloak, Ill be wearing it for quite a while, switching between my pointy hat and puffy coat, and the Shaman's Cloak lol. ^^

Obtaining You Shaman Cloak
# Feb 13 2005 at 12:08 PM Rating: Decent
This cloak is extremely nice for blm whm and rdm while working towards obtaining there last 2 peices of AF (if these last 2 include body and head). I would suggest everyone has one because it looks extremely cool ^^.

Once entering Quicksand caves from w/e location (i forget which) u walk forward until you find the first room full of Anticans, once at this room, it would be a smart idea to snk / inv unless you are lvl 67+. Continue hugging the left wall and it will appear that you can fall off. At this point drop and take the tunnel directly in front of you straight until the next big room. This room will have anticans spiders and worms. Since it isnt safe to just walk around and kill since most likely u will have a 60- job with you. It would be a smart idea to have a camp, the beginning of the cave on the opposite side room you entered from is the very best. Once here begin your killing. Centorio is a lottery from the Antican Signifiers. So really if you have high lvls you only need to kill them. They respawn every 15-16 2/3 mins. It would be a very smart idea to time this if you have competetion. I have camped this 20 times for various ppl (16 for myself, but the drop rate SHOULDNT be that bad for u... i hope....)
Now the actual NM only spawns on the left side of the room, this is saying that you are in the cave (camp) facing out into the room. When he pops he will be twice the size in all proportions of the regular signiefiers.

Things to watch out for the nm.
70+ mage will good battle plan can win. Is always smart idea to fight in cave no matter what numbers you have.
Without a 70+ mage i would say.... 2 65+ including a mage and a melee. Darknight and Blackmage is always what i used. Black Mage needs echo drops becuase you can get silence and you need to keep drk alive, only tough part will be the Ancient magic. This is why Dark knight is what i think the best melee for a ensured win. Becuase they have highers elemental resist next to other mages. (I cant stress enough how important it is too pull back to cave if you lack ppl, the links will kill you if they repop or if u left them)

The cloak itself is about a 1/5 drop with no thf
The cloak itself is about a 1/4 drop with TH1 thf
The cloak is about a lil more then half with a TH2 thf
With TH3 and Th4 thf, which i have had a few times, it is almost a guarenteed drop. With TH4 it droped 4 times in row. With TH3 (This is a thf in ls who camps for gil) he is 11/12 on the cloak.

Apart from the cloak you may receive Stone based spells and anitcan pauldrons/robes.

Total drops on our server is about 300k

The nm is lottery but can appear every 15mins-7 hours from what i have seen.

Hope this helps :)
Enjoy :)

spawn place is : enter Quicksand caves in the same desert as where you teleport in. Enter the caves @ (G-5) walk through hall turn left you come in a large room, hug the left wall and fall down all the way on the left. keep walking through the tunnel and you come in a small room with a rock somewhere on the right side of the room. that is where the NM spawns. got my cloak couple days ago (thank you Zky and Hellhammer you guys own ^^ )

Yea I came with a lvl45 Thief(for his BLM) and a lvl71 SMN, whilst they were diddling around with the actual mobs around, i stood their waiting for the pop. When it did, i called Courier Carrie (75bst btw) and let it have a 1 on 1 fight with the antician. Damn.... my Courier Carrie owned it! It was hitting the antician for like 190-200 damage per hit. Anyways we got the drop the thief lotted on it and we all logged. Perfect timing considering after 5 minutes later it was a maintenance.
How i got mine.

I've killed this guy with a Lv 70 PLD and/or 70 RDM a few times with no drop. I'm Lv 62 BLM, I wanted this cloak as a prize. The fight in which the cloak drops I'm camping with a Lv 70 RDM and we are trying to out pull an entire party of 70+ players. Suddenly they all leave and we assume they have gone to camp the other NM in the area. After a while of Centurio X-I not spawning we start 2nd guessing ourselves. Finally it pops, but we are currently trying to clear the room so of coarse it links on us while our MP is already spent. I figure I can escape and we can both just come back since no one was around. When we get back there is a Lv 75 BLM soloing this thing...Thunder IV looks cool btw...I ask him if he needs the cloak and says no, so I try to get him to join us. We got ignored. XI casts freeze on this Lv 75 BLM, now he has no stoneskin...followed by quake. I didnt see the whole fight so I hope he had used stun already and just didnt forget. He died and we killed it with 1/4 HP's left. I get my cloak and raise the BLM, he says [Thank you] and walks away.

# Oct 20 2004 at 3:46 AM Rating: Decent
I fought him tonight. Im Lvl 56 Blm and my freind is a lvl 65 Thf. We were camping for moldavite but lost the spawn when he popped. we decided to try for the cloak. Got there and there was only Four people there. 10 Minutes later he popped and i was too far...

Thf got him with ranged and it was pretty easy. Casted minimal spells. He then casted Tornado and my thf freind tell sme not to stun, iI say to him ok.....
He absorbed all of it almost lol. He started to cast freeze and i stunned him. It was pretty easy for the two of us untill he used this magnetic tp move i think. Anyways it dropped the Thf to 200hp, 0_0

I Healed him, let him get last hit, he dropped cloak, stone III, some ore and some other goodies.

He was pretty damm easy for both of us except that Magnetic tp move, it hit the thf HARD over 500 i beleive. Anyways its a great cloak! looks cool but with seers pants on it looks funny haha. Gotta get my af pants soon

Happy Hunting ^^

Camping Centurio X-1
# Sep 29 2004 at 10:59 AM Rating: Decent
Just a few words about my battle with Centurio X-1 last night... it was my third encounter with him. First time, I was there for the teleport-Altep quest and he popped on top of me, no fight. Second time, I was in a party that killed him for another BLM who got the cloak on the first drop after we camped him about half an hour.

Last night was different. It's true the five ants spawn about every 17 minutes after the room is cleared. We were a party of 4, THF, DRK, PLD and BLM, levels 62-70. After two hours and many rounds of room-clearing Centurio didn't appear, and two party members had to leave. That left a PLD 62 and me, BLM 62, to keep on camping.

It was a Tuesday evening, not too busy, other campers came and went but two Japanese players seemed pretty serious. After being there so long and killing so many placeholders I was desperate so I asked them in Japanese if I could please have Centurio because I needed the cloak and would give them the other drops. Looking at their armor (Vermillion Cloak, etc.) I figured they might take pity on me. They replied they didn't need the Shaman Cloak and were just farming ants for synthesis item. So far so good. After another 30 minutes of killing placeholder ants, which helped us a lot actually, they left.

Finally the PLD and I were alone in the room. Centurio X-1 pops. I'll make it short: we were owned. In the end, it was just Centurio and me, both of us at about three quarters health. I had around 300 MP left when he hit me with Aspir and drained it all in one cast.

End of story, almost. With the PLD and me dead and Centurio left pacing around the room looking way too smug, I just wanted him smashed. I sent a tell to the Japanese players telling them we were knocked out and Centurio was theirs for the taking. Next thing I knew, they were back in the room--and without being asked they raised me and formed an alliance. That done, they killed him. He didn't drop anything worth having, sad to say. But the Japanese players' gesture was priceless.

---> ~Shaman's Cloak: A Guide~ <---
By Ragnard X. Hocklebuns III

I. ---- Intro ----
/siiiiigh. Black Mage 56...only 40,000 more exp until you can wear that mysterious blue AF coat, or the dazzling emerald Justaucourps. And 80,000 till you can finally look like Vivi, in the charming little Scarecrow AF hat. Equipment just doesn't feel right: Tactician Magician Coat? It's all scratchy around the neck and doesn't give the stats we BLMs really want. Combat Caster's Cloak? Better INT, sure, but people might mistake us for lvl 40's...

Solution: Get your mitts on a Shaman's Cloak:
Def: 43
MP: 25 <--------------------------Yes!
INT: 4 <--------------------------Ohhh yes, you know I like it!
Enfeebling Magic Skill: 5 <---Ooooh yea! Gimme more! Gimme more!
Elemental Magic Skill: 5 <----/heal. Was it good for you too?

Here's what we're gonna do:
-Get some help
-Go to Quicksands
-Go to the spawn room, and clear it.
-Build TP, and wait for the pop!
-Claim Centurio X-I and destroy him! <3

II. ---- Who to get to help ----
As with any NM, people say different things. I can tell you that with a party of 59's, you will be set. With a few 62-63's, you will be set. With a 65+ RDM, you will be set. With a 65+ melee, you will be set if you pretend you are a WHM, and debuff and heal, but clearing the room will be slower.

Last night I went out with this setup: 61BLM/WHM (Ragnard), 60DRK/THF (Dakin), 63SAM/WAR (Rha), and 62RDM/WAR (Pyrotek). TP buildup was easy as Melon Pie +1, and when we finally found our mob, we killed him in less than 2 minutes. He felt like another TP mob. I never even nuked. By the time I debuffed, he was dead.

Make sure you have a healer, and make sure you have a tank. Other than that, you're pretty much set.

If you are having trouble getting friends to come play in the sand, casually mention that it drops some pricey things too. See section VI for a list of drops. ^^ Might be a good idea (since you get the cloak) to quartermaster the other drops, sell them, and split the gil between your helpers. Adding a tip is nice too, if you have a friend of a friend, or a stranger.

III. ---- Where to go ----
Get a Teleport-Altep. Head East and a little South to get to the Quicksands Entrance at (K-7). Enter, buff, and head down. When you start to see Exp parties or Anticans, Sneak up. You don't need Invisible. If you have a map, head to (H-9)/(H-10). If you don't, here's a Map courtesy of LS-EternalForce. You entered at (L-4), so follow straight until you reach the large first room. Head south from here, and walk off the dropoff and through the small tunnel leading South. The next large room you get to is the NM spawn area! Head across the room till you see a tunnel in the south wall. Camp inside this tunnel. The worms do not aggro.

IV. ---- How to clear the room ----
Centurio X-I is a Lottery Pop. If you're unfamiliar with what this means, here's my synopsis: Lottery pop means the NM will pop randomly in one of the spawn points in a given room. It's a lottery to see if he pops or if a regular mob pops. The strategy for Lottery Pop NM's then is to clear away all the regular mobs. Since the game sees that there are no mobs spawned, it will (in the usual amount of time) repopulate the room, one spawn site at a time. Cross your fingers that the NM wins the Lottery and comes out to play. :D

As Daione (thanks!) pointed out, there are 5 spawns in the room. 2 are Princeps, 2 are Hastatus, 1 is Signifier. They are all on a ~17 minute timer, and they'll respawn in the order that you kill them. Daione notes that Signifier is the place-holder for Centurio X-I, so kill the signifier first. Then, wait a few minutes and start on the next mobs. This way, Centurio X-I will pop first, and the others will pop a few minutes later, giving you time to take care of business.

Clearing the room is not very difficult, but it can get sticky if you're lower level and/or sloppy. Ants link, so make sure you are ready with Sleep II, Sleepga II, and Escape. While you're camping in the tunnel, pull them one at a time, and destroy them. Do not underestimate them. Pretend it's an exp party, and set up a skillchain for Detonation or Fragmentation, since ants are weak to wind. With these ants, it is important to know which type is which. Here are the little guys that you'll run into:
-Hastatus - WAR type. Debuff as usual. Don't aspir. Watch out for AoE silence ability "Jamming Wave" ><
-Signifier - BLM type. Silence for sure. Use aspir ^^.
-Princeps - PLD type. Debuff as usual. Silence only so that you can keep him from buffing/healing. Use aspir ^^.

If you get there, and he's up, pretend he's a normal mob. Clear the room as much as you can first, and save your TP. Pull him last.

If he's not up, and you clear the room, and it repopulates, and he's still not up, it's possible that someone killed him recently. His respawn time can be 3+ hours if someone just killed him, but often times he will pop much faster. If you don't have much time, plan your raid for an off-peak time. Keep clearing. Patience > NMs in camping, and in fighting them.

V. ---- Killing Centurio X-I ----
He's like any NM. If you don't have experience with NM's, I'd like to humbly offer the following pieces of advice:
-You subbed WHM/RDM for a reason. Don't be afraid to backup heal.
-You have stoneskin. Use it. Use blink too.
-You're a mage. Stay in the back and use your spells.
-MB's are the most efficient nukes you can cast.
-Make ready with the status cures like Poisona, Silena, Cursna etc.
-You have powerful debuffs. Use the Frost/Rasp/Drown set or the Frost/Shock set.
-Run fraps and take screenshots!
-but most importantly: Take your time. You waited for an hour to get your party together, you took 10 minutes to get there, and 30 or more minutes to get this guy to pop. There's no need to try to kill him in 2 minutes unless your party is in serious danger. Let the melees do the work, and keep plenty of MP ready in case something unexpected happens.

Like all ants, he is weak to wind. However, he is a NM, so he'll have tricks up his sleeve. Here are his tricks:
*Ancient Magic - Ouch. Keep shell up, and when you see which spell he's casting, bar that element. Cast Stun or use flat-blade etc. to stop his casting.
*Manafont - You can't stop him from casting. However, from what I read, he does not cast Ancient Magic during this time. I cannot guarantee this though.

Silence him first, and keep silence on him the whole time if you can. Aspir works just fine on him too. Slow and steady wins the race. If you have to chain-nuke on him, just put up stoneskin first so the melees have a chance to get hate back if you don't kill him.

VI. ---- Conclusions and Other Stuff ----
He also drops:
-Adaman Ore - 100k
-Quake - 120k
-StoneIII - 20k
-StonegaIII - 30k
-Shaman's Cloak - Rare/Ex >_>
-Mythril Ore - 1.2k
-Darksteel Ore - ?
*prices from AH-jeuno, midgardsormr, 7/28/04

Shaman's Cloak isn't a very rare drop, but it doesn't drop every time. When I killed it last night, we didn't get it. In fact, if I get it, I probably won't even use it at 61. But this is something I always wanted, but I never knew how hard it was or had the confidence to tell my friends that, Yes, We could DEFINITELY do this easily. This post is my revenge on my own ignorance of this mob, where he lives, and how to kill him. ^^

I hope that this guide was helpful. Sorry if it's a bit wordy or long, but I wanted to cover all the bases. Comments and Corrections are ALWAYS appreciated, because I want to give out the best information possible. Thanks to the FFXI Mystery Tour and LS-Eternal Force for the info. Huge thanks to Daione, and other Allakhazam posters too for putting up some good info as well to supplement the guide.

Good luck and Happy Hunting!

What are you going to put on your head before 60 that's really worth givin up the other good stats of this cloak? (^_^) I mean, gold hairpin maybe? But that drops your HP and doesn't give you much more MP than this cloak does. :D

Yesterday I went to go get mine.

60 drg, 59 NIN/tank, 61 blm, 61 thf, 60 whm and a 2nd 60 whm.

This was definately overkill, but I wanted to be sure noone was doing to die to get me a cloak and they're all friends

Anyway we got the cloak, stonega 3, Antican Robe, mythril ore and a Dark Crystal.

What and where
