Just Harvested Mine
# Jul 06 2004 at 1:55 PM Rating: Decent
I just harvested my tree saplings today following this guide perfectly. Here's what I spent doing this:
1 stack of tree saplings: -120,000 Gil
10 Porcelain Flowerpots: 10 X 6000 = -60,000 Gil
4 Tables: -2,000 Gil
Total Spent Trying to Grow Fire Ores: 182,000 Gil
What I got:
many many stacks of cinnamon, all of which I will NPC (not sure how many stacks exactly since I was kicked off shortly after harvesting due to scheduled maintenance)
6 ice clusters = crap
1 fire ore = 200,000 Gil
Net cash inflow: 18,000 Gil or so
Time Spent trying this: 1 month of checking plants twice a day (once in morning, once at night)
To me, this isn't really worth it, but I'm thinking maybe I just got the shaft on one single ore from harvesting...but I'll leave my results with you to decide if it's worth it or not...personally I'd rather go back and hunt the Valkurm Emperor

My hubby and I have been growing, or attempting to grow, ores for about 3 months now. We both have multiple pots and follow the recipe as outlined in the gardening guide at
• http://ffxi.cannotlinkto
• . So far we have each had 4 harvests. From each harvest we both have only ever gotten ONE elemental ore. The other plants produce other harvests, sometimes worth it, sometimes not (one plant produced 49 clumps of Windurstian Tea Leaves during my last harvest), which can be frustrating for the poor soul who spent their last few gil to buy the supplies to attempt to grow just a single plant.

I have a sneaking suspiscion that each character can only grow one elemental ore at a time. If anyone has had success at growing more than one at a time on the same character, please dispel this idea in my head. Due to my personal experience I now only plant 2 saplings at a time so I at least have a 50/50 chance of growing an ore.

And just MHO... there is NO SUCH THING AS EASY GIL! You need a variety of methods (farming, gardening, crafting, etc.) to get rich in this game...

Hello Everyone, here's my input on growing elemental ore. I received 3 dark ore (from 10 plants) from 1 of my players that I grow with.
Planted, fed(x2) & harvested all on Darksday. Grow dates: 25 Oct-14 Nov.
2 ore from Porc pots, 1 from a brass.
Hope it helps! --Svt--Sylph--

I was told brass pots can be used as well, and yield better results, whereas the porcelain yield faster results? any feedback?

If you think that spreading trade secrets that cause prices to fall is a bad thing, you are either a selfish crybaby, you don't understand basic economics, or both.
With more elemental ore on the market, prices will indeed be lower, but also the super items created from them will be more plentiful and cheaper. The crafters that consume the ore will still spend the same amount of money, either on more ore, or on other things, so people raising money other ways will get a raise. The bottom line is that there will be more of everything to go around. Granted, some people will not have their monopolies anymore, but I doubt the majority of players care about the plight of a few wealthy players that have to work to earn their Gil now.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 21 2005 at 8:32 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) LMAO! That is a cute naive thought. I appreciate you lowering the price of the elemental ore. Now my goldsmithing beads bring me more profits that I assure you will not be passed on to my customers.

Agreed. I started producing ores recently (fire on ramuh sell for 190K), so I wasnt making this stuff when ores sold for well over 400K. I can imagine the feeling of making so much gil so fast. But it is not fair to "hide" receipes because you want to hold a monopoly over prices. In the long run, you will be keeping more of your money, because when you get to higher lvls, you made need a staff that utilizes the ingredients you made. So if the ingredients are more expensive, so are the items. I still get giddy making 50K of an ice ore. I have several mules making this stuff, and the profits are rolling in. So quit your crying, no matter how hard you tried to keep it secret, ppl will talk.
How to obtain this

Ok The Elemental ores are all obtainable through 3 ways. FIRST: is BCNM 60. Simply put, win the battle and you may get one.

The next 2 are much better methods for the poor player, however.

SECOND: CHOCOBO DIGGING

You have to get your chocobo digging skil;l up to a considferable level to do this (yes chocobo digging is like a guild with 10 skill lvls)
visit www.cannotlinkto/ffxi and click the chocobo digging section. It lists what can be dug there.

LAST and BEST BY FAR is GARDENING
the recipie is as follows.

You will need a PORCELIN POT + TREE SAPLING (note this is NOT cutting but sapling). Simply plant the seed in the porcelin pot in the mog house (preferably on dark day since that is the seeds element) and then add 2 crystals of the desired elementak ore color (IE: fire crystals for fire ore and wind crystals for wind ore) on the day of the crystal element. Then harvest on the elemental day of the ore you are going for and you will hopefully have your elemental ore. Btw these ALL sell for over 200K (so much for Leaping Lizzy hunting).

The downside of this method is as folows. You are not guarenteed an ore EVERY time. There IS a chance of getting lesser results (as with al;l gardening). And the biggie is that it takes approximately a REAL LIFE MONTH to grow these so don't do only one. Have a few going at once so that if one pot fails maybe another will succeed.

I have PERSONALLY grown a water/fire/ice/wind/earth ore and have yet to attempt the light/dark/lightning

so this DOES work. I now have 8 million gil from this with 6 mules over the past 3 months so i don't need the secret anymore. Plainly put it WORKS...albeit a little slow and not 100%. DO IT it is your road to riches :).

tree sappling + fire crystal
and..luck
same as other kind of special ore, the crystal you feed determines what kind of ore you get
I think its already public a few months ago, not secret anymore
but due to no detail information about how to plant it and need very LONG time from seed to harvest..
So the price still high, although its dropping
Compare to it, its more difficult to have high enough skill to make beads and staffs

I don't mean to be disrespectful but why post a reply saying these can be grown with proper ingredients when you didn't even give out what proper ingredients and how to........

??? Don't ya think thats a little vague???
