I have a friend that found a "Great guide" to growing ore and he doesn't plan on sharing it... ... Change that to *Had a friend.. If someone is too greedy to share something they found on the internet.. they're not worth the trouble.. This ore is up over 1 mil on Gilgamesh and keeps rising.. Its getting to me very hard to make any gil with how inflated our economy is.. (Even at 59 Alchemy) I've probably grown 20 or so saplings and gotten crap from all of them.. oo plat leaves.. 20k.. Tree sapling is 50k.. -.- sigh... If anyone has a good guide they don't mind sharing please post it..

I don't know if this is the guide you're looking for, but there's some great information here :

Ariah's FFXI garden

Ariah has been posting a bit about her experiments on AK and prolly other forums I don't know of, but I don't know how reliable her informations are. All I know is that she seems to have had very good success with her theories, so it's worth trying them.

I've personnaly tried 10 saplings in porc. pots lately (windy mule), with 22 maple tables and gardening gear, exam on firesday 70% of time (1-2x a day), fed both fire crystals on firesday, but I planted them on watersday (full moon) and harvested them on 86%+ moon (I think it was darksday).

I don't know what I did wrong but I got only crap (well, many ice clusters, but still... no ore >.<)

I think what I did wrong was the moon by the time I harvested (I knew it was too early but I couldn't do it on the next day >.<)

So if it's actually the moon that messed up, I cannot stress enough on planning your planting in order to make sure you'll harvest on a full moon darkdsay and that this exact time won't be in the middle of the night or work time during week...

I hope this info will help you, and please don't hesitate to post your own results once you'll have tried it, even if it's a failure. If anyone can make suggestions to explain my failures I'll read it with much interest !

Theres' one last thing I don't remember, that's the time it took to my plants to grow. I know this is precious info for planning your garden so I'll try to post it later when I get back home.

Oh and for the greedy bastards that don't want their precious gardening "secrets" shared, go ahead and rate me down for giving out info, I don't give a F.

ice ore
# Nov 29 2004 at 3:24 AM Rating: Excellent
Well after 6-7 RL weeks I finally have 2 ice ores.

I'm cheap so I grew tree saplings from cuttings and then attempted to grow ice ores.

I had 17 brass flowerpots (yes I have a mule) and planted them all on iceday and fed two ice crystals both on iceday (except for one pot that I accidently fed on watersday). I then harvested 10 on iceday and the remaining 7 on firesday.

Of the 10 harvested on iceday with ice crystals on icedays I got lots of platinum leaves (around 4 stacks) and more wind clusters than I ever care to see again.

Of the 6 harvested on firesday with ice crystals on icedays (the one ice crystal on a watersday gave wind clusters) I got about 3 more stacks of platinum leaves, 2 ice ores, and some wind clusters.

I think the firesday results were better than the iceday results because it was a full moon on the Firesday. So harvest on FULL MOONS if you want the best results.

Unfortunately, the price of Ice Ores on my server has dropped to 50k each but the platinum leaves sell for a steady 20k per stack. The ice ore price was somewhat depressing but 200k is a nice return from the original 40k I spent on cuttings (wow that was so long ago...)

Have fun future gardeners and good luck!

it's a good thing i don't buy anything that will cost me over 5k if it's going to be used in planting and that sort.... i would rather take the time and farm them... and unlike most people... i don't live in this damn game, so i don't read too much into it and get all paranoide.

i got some tree saplings floating about my mog house.... i want to try this, so i'm going to make like 2-3 work bench for the sole purpose of Moghancement, then i'll plant em and try.... i just throw away the results i don't want or sell it if it goes for a resonable price...!

When I finally leave the game one day I AM gonna spill all of my secrets to my LS members. (yeah even they dont know the half of it.) As Usual, this will **** a large number of people off but yeah competition should bring the prices within a reasonable range. I wouldnt bother normally but the fact that everyone simply "rapes" each other at the AH and Bazaar has prompted me to attempt to do something about it.

If the secrets are out than people can stop exploiting each other and bring the stupid outrageous prices back down to earth. Maybe create more of an equal playing field for all of us. We are all after the same thing here. Fun.

Some of us get it one way and some otherways. The most arguments I hear come from money or the lack of.

How stupid would it be to pay 19 million+ for a damn Kraken Club when last December it was selling for less than 3 mil. WTF is wrong with you people. Since I am sick of paying these rediculous prices I figure to help everyone else become a little more dependent on themselves is reward enough. Especially knowing that other greedy bastards aren't ruining the fun factor of the game by making it impossible to buy good things unless you farm for a month.

Hope this makes sense.

Feel free to flame it doesn't bother me one bit.

I agree!
And even having the prices back down to a reasonable rate would be great. Those who r complaining about the price drop, r the ones actually bring the price down. They see that there is an increased number of items being sold so they lower their price for it to sell fast (figuring they wont miss the extra 10k). They start a downward spiral on that item, then complain about it. The reason they need to sell it fast is because they have become accustomed to spending large amounts of gil, and feel they NEED that +1 item (that their LS buddy probably is selling at the AH for some ridiculous amount).
As much as i would love to have the 100-200k for an elemental ore, i have probably spent close to the same amount trying to grow them, not to mention the time involved.
My friend said his brother grew a fire ore in a week, i didnt believe him.. saying it was probably a red rock. But is this possible? the only pot i havent used is an arcane pot.

Exactly. Besides, do you guys really think that ore prices have ANY effect on other prices at all? Lower ore price = more profit for bead makers. Staff prices remain the same. That's it.

Do you cry, and blame everyone when u die in a party too?

This game has many interesting factors involved, one is change! Roll with it. If the price sux so bad, many people will abandon the ores at the AH, thus the price will rise again. Someone probably handed u the information; or did u experiment with countless recipes until u found it? I dont think so...

I guess by keeping the secret to yourself u feel powerful, this is a false sense of power within the virtual boundaries a digital world. Take a step outside of FFXI into the real world every once in while, if u can handle it.

Oh, BTW, your welcome...lol

How do you know you were 'One of the first'? Did you take online polls at th AH?
Dumb Monkey asks -"Hey do you know how to make Ice Ore?"

FFXI Player says -"No." (as the real person laughs outloud b/c someone wanted to learn something he knows.

Dumb Monkey thinks - "Wow I must be the 'first person' to know how to do this, I am better than EVERYONE!"

Really though how would you know that? Or better yet how would you prove it? I was the 'first person to type an emote on this game' just in case you wanted to know. Look it up!

Ice Ores not worth in Odin

Well, when I went into gardening, one of my main targets was to grow elemental ores. You can find all over the internet that this will sell from 50ks to 500ks (according to piko's pots).

The main drawback is the full month that it takes to grow this thing. And, for the poor player, 10ks x 6 pots (at least! considering you probably will get only 3 ores) is not something you can just risk like that.

And today, I realized something in my server, Odin. They have been selling elemental ores for ... 2ks. Either that, or no applicable entries.

Yes. 2 ks. Is not even enough for 1 sapling, let alone the one month investment.

I don't have 200ks to set a new price for them in the AH with my mule... I guess I'll just sell my saplings

What I wonder is... why so many people buy saplings? I don't think the grow anything interesting (other than elemental ores, of course, but where they are selling them then if not in the AH?)

You know I've seen a flood of Ice Ore in the AH as well, but you know what else I've noticed? That the prices are well above 200k! So if that is somehow 'ruined' for you, then you're just b1tching for nothing! The price has dropped - what 100k MAYBE?! Oh blah blah blah, I've lost 100k per sell at the AH! Cry me a river. 200k is still A LOT OF GIL!

Last I checked (2 days ago maybe?), the price on Fairy had dropped from 180k straight to 150k. Can you believe someone undercut by 30k? There were over 40 Ice Ores for sale as well, so you can expect more undercutting.

First time I ever checked it was going for over 300k.

On Lakshmi over the past 3 weeks... price of ice ore has gone from 250k to 70k. For the mathematically challenged, that's a 180k price drop down to 28% of the original price...

Ok The Elemental ores are all obtainable through 3 ways. FIRST: is BCNM 60. Simply put, win the battle and you may get one.

The next 2 are much better methods for the poor player, however.

SECOND: CHOCOBO DIGGING

You have to get your chocobo digging skil;l up to a considferable level to do this (yes chocobo digging is like a guild with 10 skill lvls)
visit www.cannotlinkto/ffxi and click the chocobo digging section. It lists what can be dug there.

LAST and BEST BY FAR is GARDENING
the recipie is as follows.

You will need a PORCELIN POT + TREE SAPLING (note this is NOT cutting but sapling). Simply plant the seed in the porcelin pot in the mog house (preferably on dark day since that is the seeds element) and then add 2 crystals of the desired elementak ore color (IE: fire crystals for fire ore and wind crystals for wind ore) on the day of the crystal element. Then harvest on the elemental day of the ore you are going for and you will hopefully have your elemental ore. Btw these ALL sell for over 200K (so much for Leaping Lizzy hunting).

The downside of this method is as folows. You are not guarenteed an ore EVERY time. There IS a chance of getting lesser results (as with al;l gardening). And the biggie is that it takes approximately a REAL LIFE MONTH to grow these so don't do only one. Have a few going at once so that if one pot fails maybe another will succeed.

I have PERSONALLY grown a water/fire/ice/wind/earth ore and have yet to attempt the light/dark/lightning

so this DOES work. I now have 8 million gil from this with 6 mules over the past 3 months so i don't need the secret anymore. Plainly put it WORKS...albeit a little slow and not 100%. DO IT it is your road to riches :).
RE: How to obtain this.
# Sep 02 2004 at 3:12 PM Rating: Decent
Id say digging is ur best bet. i wasted 240k buying to stacks of saplingz and i only got 1 freaken wind ore. 150k on carbuncle. i already had porceline pots so i least i didnt have to eat the 60k for those. i read all the gardening threadz i could find and researched a lot before i actually tried. the first month i tried to grow 10, and got the 1 wind ore, next batch i grew no ore at all =( and so i sold my last 4 saplings for 10k each to try and make up some of the loss. all in all a total loss of 50k over 2 monthz... TRY THIS AT UR OWN RISK!!!

GOD. i fookin hope your right. the economy needs to come down by a factor of 10. dis just FAKE money man. asking for large numbers of gil for an item is, you know what? a large DEMAND on someones Time. now, i go to my job and sell them my time and they Pay me Real money. imho, someone that asks 4million gils for an item i could use in this game (my Relax time) ought to pay me Real money for the time i spend getting them Fake money.

As many have heard the rumor, this can be grown. The recipe, if I remember correctly is in a ceramic pot, plant a tree sapling. Feed it an ice crystal on ice day. Then, feed it an ice crystal on windsday. I haven't experimented enough to know if the other ores would be fire crystal on firesday then fire crystal on windsday, or if it would be fire crystal on firesday then a fire crystal on the day before firesday.

While gardening is still speculative in portions, both crystals were given during the new moon at <10%. Again, who knows if this plays a factor, or if it is, if it's the same phase of the moon necessary for the other ores.

I think that this is a REALLY lame post. Not just because I am a new player, but for the simple fact that the content of the post is pure hate and discontent towards other players. I actually have a real job and a family, that consumes most of my time, which brings my play time down tremendously. So are you saying that I shouldn't be able to make gil and enjoy the game and get the rare items I want because I have a life and I can't spend 24/7 playing and making gil like some others do? Don’t we all pay 12.85 (or something like that) a month to play a GAME? Or do you pay more than me, and think that because of this fact you are somehow better, and you are one of the few that should be privy to the information of making an Ice Ore?!?

BTW all, I’ve read on another site that it’s the Porcelain Pot, and that you should try to plant on a Lightsday. But this is all unknown because I haven’t got an Ice Ore it yet, I was hoping to find more info here. Thx to all.

This can be refined in to an Ice Bead by a high level goldsmith, which can then be used by a high-level (~75) carpenter to craft an Ice Staff/Aquilo's Staff. There may be other uses, but that's the one that I know of for sure.
