Ok well I just loaded myself, my mules, and even my brothers mules up with goods to hammer out 97-99 cooking.

I started at 0% moon, no support, no +cooking skill on Lightningsday. Crafted all the way thru darksday. Once I hit 98% skill, I faced south (supposedly to up the chance of breaking/difficulty). It took me 66 synths to get 2.0 skill. So that's about 30%, roughly 1 gain out of every 3 synths. Mugwort is down to 30k on Bismarck, so that helped a lot.

Now to load myself up with cursed soup ingreds and go on a CN bee slaying fest!

I've just stumbled accross this food on somepage and came on here to do more research. I'm impressed....

Compare this to the staple BRD food the majority of us use... (those adorable monkey bananas)...

Pamamas and Opo-Opo Crown-
+50 MP, +50 HP, +7CHA, +1VIT, +1DEX, +1AGI, +1MND, +2INT, -2STR

Rice Cakes and Walarha Turban
+47 MP, +30 HP, +2VIT, +3INT, +1MND
+5% Haste, +5Eva, Resist Silence, +hMP/hHP: 2

Net difference: Turban and rice- -3MP, -20HP, -7CHA vs +5% Haste, +5EVA, +hMP

In Exp parties/Solo Turban beats crown hands down. Whether /whm or /nin.
In Dynamis, I would definitely prefer the +haste and +hMP
SKY/HNM could possibly represent a challenge... the +7CHA might be the difference in whether that elegy sticks or not, but i would probably prefer the +haste myself.

Rounding up...this seems like more of a thread of turban vs opo crown to be honest, but I know that personally I am quite excited about starting to use a turban and rice cakes. Gonna start hoarding these things in my mog locker since you guys sell them for so cheap, but, yeah if you decided to start selling them for anything higher... I would, myself be prepared to pay more for these things.

Anyone on Fairy wants to skillup on these, give me a shout, I'll buy them off you no problem.

errr edited... theyr not rice balls, theyr rice cakes...

I would just like to let everyone know how difficult this recipe is to skill up on. Even with loads of gil, it is still tough. Fresh Mugwort is 150k/stack on Lakshmi right now, and the most sweet rice cakes you can make is 9 stacks with would equal 45k gil tops! On this recipe you WANT to fail because there is a chance of not losing the mugwort. Secondly, Gardenia seed. This item is unstackable, and is only sold in Norg...which is very inconvenient. Also, the NPC that sells it is only open from 9-23 i believe. So nowthat you're in Norg, there's another problem, sticky rice. This ingrediant is also unstackable, and is only sold in the tenshodo in lower jeuno. The guild there is open long hours from 1-23. So basically if you want to get cooking to 100 asap, you need a TON of room for this synth. If you have the chef's hat/apron/cooking set do not use them under any circumstances, it will lose you gil. Guaranteed. Well I hope this helps all you cooks out there who were wondering how hard this was to make. Good luck getting to 100, I know i will need some.

FYI, Gardenia Seeds are also sold by an NPC by the AH in Nashmau. That's not so inconvenient if you take take the runic portal to Leujoam Sanctum (sp?). I have a Jeuno mule with Tenshodo access, so I sent him in to get Sticky Rice. I farmed up 7 Fresh Mugwort, which of course, took me a couple of hours. I went to Nashmau and got gardenia seeds, and just camped out there to synth. 7 synths I got 0.4 skillups, which is awesome. I had been doing Cursed Soup, and skillups were sometimes lacking. I have gotten a total of 0.5 skillups off of 8 synths altogether. I think I am going to stick to these til 99 then hit up cursed soup again.

Yes, broken synth is good on these IF A) you get a skillup B) you don't lose your Fresh Mugwort. If the path to 100 was so easy you wouldn't feel such a sense of accomplishment once you got there would you?

Well, I made this post pretty much before much aht urghan stuff was known, so I didn't know there was another NPC for the seeds. Back then, this was a much harder recipe, now mugworts only 60k/stack, somehting I can afford to do, so I am making my way to 100.

right now fresh mugs are about 230k/stack or so on Diabolos. Which is an improvement from the winter months ... about 500-600k a stack o.o

while sweet rice cakes are like 3-6k a stack

If your about to start makeing these you will need around 6 stacks of mugwort for the two levels.

6 stacks of mugwort will give you 72 sythns and with no break you will have 54 stacks of cakes.

If you pay the 200k per stack which seems to be the going rate on several servers, Your going to be 1.2million plus mabe 100k or so on the other ingredents. They sell for 10k a stack if you are lucky.

So be ready to loose around 500-800k on these two levels.

Farming mugwort is hard I got one in two hours.

Good luck!

Tavnazian Toccos suck too....
# Oct 14 2005 at 8:47 PM Rating: Decent
At least on seraph they do. The reason is, the salad sells for 30k each, and the tacos are about 60k a stack, so you're losing gil when you count in AH taxes and the other ingredients. It's a sad day indeed.

Oh, and don't even think about synthing your own salad, because that'll hurt your pocket twice as bad if not more. Last I checked grimmonite, a non-stackable main ingredient of the salad, is 11k, with noble ladies costing 30k. Yeah, the salad is an even worse money sink.

I can't see why anyone would even bother with it, I'm going with persikos au lait to 91 then dorado sushi.
RE: Tavnazian Toccos suck too....
# Nov 14 2005 at 8:35 PM Rating: Decent
well for me tavnazian tacos and salads were profit

yes grimmonites are also 11k on my server [odin] but i have high fishing friends who fished 50 grim. for 400k which is 8k a piece, than i bought everything else and spent around 570k for 50 synth. out of those 50 synths i only obtained 1.5 lvls [from 85.4-86.9] but when i sold the salads back i sold for 20k a piece and ended with 892k which is a 322k profit.

Now i am about to make them again [cooking 90] till 92 than save for tacos. on my sever taco 45k a stack, which when you take 2 tacos from AH that is still about a 4k profit.

This is deffinetly a route to be chosen on Odin

price of mugwart = 200k/stack
price of cake = 4k/stack

RE: price
# Sep 26 2005 at 2:11 PM Rating: Decent
Yeah, its a disgusting discrepancy. I can't see anyone making these things for -any- reason now that you can make Tavnazian Tacos to get to Cooking 97 and from there you can move on to Cursed Soup or Red Curry to finish off.

If the Mugwort were easier to get (whether grown or dropped off of some Mob) it might become a viable skill-up food. But not at the usual price of the Fresh Mugwort. It just isn't worth it.
RE: price
# Oct 06 2005 at 9:19 PM Rating: Decent
These things are hard to get hold of and there can sell up to 15k just for one Mugwort.

I was out there harvesting for cotton and red moko grass and was lucky to come across 3 of em in about 2 hours.

why they make them
# Jul 15 2005 at 11:51 AM Rating: Default
True they are ungodly at the lower to lower-high lvls for mages, and true that they are cheap.

But for cooks, they are cheap to make and one of the best, if not the best, items to skill on to get up to 99, then just 1 more lvl till cap.

I LOVE these things. I'm an RDM and they are wonderful for me. But...

I can't imagine anyone actually making these. They only sell for 3-6k a stack on Titan. If the price of mugwart is as high as reported here..that's insane. I'll have to check the price next time I think about it. Maybe they're harvested easier after that last patch?

It is a nice rdm food because of the mp, int and mdn (and vitality doesn't hurt), but it's probably better for humes and mithras more so than tarutarus and elvaans. Taru might want to consider mind + mp food, and elvaan int + mp food. The more balanced stats of this food are fit for the more balanced races.
