wrong, melee hose just increase the occurance of kick attacks, dune boots are what increase the damage. they are +30dmg weapons on your feet.

I just got my boots last nite....but some luck was involved.
My party consisted of a 70mnk, 75pld, 73whm, 71whm, 73rdm, 65drg, and me (71mnk).
Originally we were out in altepa to do Bastok mission 6-1 but once we were done with that very easy mission I asked if they wouldn't mind helping me get dune boots. My friend (the 70mnk) had got his boots the day before so he had ToD.

So we get to the pop area and there is a anon whm sitting there who asks us if we are there for another NM....we explain we are there for Sabotender for Dune boots....then he starts complaining that were about to steal his mob which he popped (never mind the fact that we had the ToD...and the fact that whoever was supposed to help him hadn't arrived).

The pld vokes it and the fighting starts....the rdm kept the whm and pld refreshed while we hacked away at it. At about 35% hp I gained too much hate after a particularly nasty asuran fists and subsequently died. Later a 75drk joined us to help out. Then the 70mnk died when the NM was at 10%.

The rdm decided to end it so she 2-hr and chain-spelled Blizzard III I believe and we won.

Sabotender Bailarina on Steroids

I've been a 75 MNK for 2 years now, and I finally made the venture down to Quicksand for these. As 75 SMN, I kited that sucker for about 15 minutes while my brother (Knightcomm, 75 WAR/NIN) killed the repops to keep the path clear. Once the NIN & WHM showed, we tried meleeing it only to find that he loooooves to spam 1000 Needles when he has TP. So we fought it in shifts... Melee, get low MP, NIN & WAR turn and tank backwards while we got MP back. 10 minutes into it a BRD showed up and the mambo/ballad helped quite a bit. 1 hour into the fight (w/ about 5% left) it raged. Predator Claws went from hitting for 500-800, to hitting for 60, and the WAR & NIN couldn't manage to do much damage. Also, it seemed the mob was spamming 1000 Needles about every 20% TP instead of every 100%. The NIN 2hr'd and ended the fight. :D

Dune Boots Got Them Finally
# Dec 05 2006 at 5:14 AM Rating: Decent
I got them a couple days ago, I used these posts to reference what needs to be done. Here's some further specific info in case it may help others.

I went with a few friends 70+ into West Altepa and entered at the G-6 entrance into Quicksand Caves. Please note this, bring a lot of silent oil with you because to my surprise, even the spiders will aggro you besides obviously the anticans. If you're 70+, things will coin as EP or DC, so if you do get aggro, with a couple friends, you can take anything on if you need to.

Once you enter, follow the one way path until you reach the door which requires you to stand on a weighted switch to open it. You need at least 2 people (not taru's because their weight equates to 1/2 a full body) and stand directly center on the switch. The 1st time my buddy and I were standing on the edge and couldn't understand why it wouldn't open ><. Stand on the center and you will see it glow and the door next to you will open, enter it asap.

Next go forward and veer a little left and you will see another weighted switch, repeat, enter when it opens. Follow the hall and the paths, the doors will open upon you sighting on them at this point. Eventually you will enter the spawn room at F-6. This walk to the area from the starting point is approximately 45 seconds, so it's not a hassle to get to. This is where our cacutar friend will eventually be. If you go further past the room, it's a hall with miscellaneous spiders and cacutars until you can actually exit into a West Altepa zone that you can only exit to. You can re-enter into Quicksands of course, but note there is no way to get to this spot if you think you can bypass entering through the G-6 area.

Ok, through reading other posts, I assumed he would "always be up because he's never camped." This wasn't my case, he wasn't there. So we remained in F-6 and killed every cacutar and spider and antican. After a few hours, we noticed that for the 1st time, a cacutar popped in the actual F-6 room---this is the placeholder. This was a good sign. This also proved to me there is a ToD involved with him, which we didn't have. But with the sabotender spurlunker there (sp) which popped in the F-6 room, we knew we were close. We waited a 1/2 hour killing miscellaneous pops in the area and the placeholder popped again in F-6. I was getting excited.

It took another hour or more and about 3 more placeholder pops in F-6, which mind you, kept popping sooner and sooner. That was another indication we were getting close.

After 5 hours, kind of being brain dead and feeling lazy, BOOM there he was Sabotender Bailarina!! He aggroe'd my AFK buddy immediately and his hits hurt. My party consisted of 7 people, 4 DD, 1 PLD, 1 WHM and 1 BLM. My only advice of a party set up for this fight is just make sure you have a couple mages with yags on hand and DD's who are crazy killers with a nin sub if possible. If you're not 70+, you're toast.

This guy hits hard, eats shadows, counters attacks if you got hate, and regens HP very very fast. I felt I needed to 2 hour, I was determined to get my boots, so I did 100 fists and this guy countered 1/2 of my hits, LOL. It was like I was beating myself to death! But eventually with everyone, when our mages MP was at nothing and the NM was at 3% and regening, the WHM bene'd and we were healthy again and whomped his butt.

So there you have it. I'm so happy I have them, and I wish you all luck and hope you get them as well.

Not that hard

I was in caves to go to clositer for a friend who needed Titan. I was 75 rdm/nin he was 60 blu/nin and we had a 45 whm friend with us. I made a wrong turn and ended up in his room. The nm aggrod me. I hadnt even noticed he was different than the other cactuars. I say meh wtf I'm in all my solo gear. +41 eva +25 attk etc. He's really not that hard other than a lotta hp. Keep shadows and stoneskin up and its cake. We took him down in about 10 minutes. He doesnt spam 1000 needles so if you get that a lot maybe it's becasue you brought a whole party that is feeding him tp. We basically duoed him as whm did not engage and I think we saw 4 1000 needles. Boots are not 100% as all we got was the bailerena needle. We thought that was pretty cool though. Hope that helps.
Not that hard

You are confusing Sabotender Bailarin with Sabotender Bailarina. The dune boots nm is no where near the Cloister of Tremors.

#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 27 2006 at 4:06 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) lol last night i fought this with a 75RDM and myself 70WHM we EASILY killed this took about 25-30 minutes. rdm must of had capped enfeeble but paralyze went off just about EVERYTIME he used 1k needles. needless to say rdm dropped to 300hp i cure 5 for 731 and the rdm was back in business. i kept stoneskin and blink up (Rumor has it blink eats 1kneedsle. and some say you can take half damage with Ni up) but just incase i were to take hate i would just pop up stoneskin again and blink rdm would WS for hate (i was Hexa striking) over all 1-10 on hardness its about an 8 because 1k needs hit him for 700 and me for 350ish, i dont recommend any war thinking they are BADASSES going to tank this badboy cause he hit for 90-120 and killed some dumb *** PLD/NIN thats how we got claim btw. im thinking he can drop a WAR in like 15 seconds cause he hits fast and within 5seconds of the fight it seemed he used 1k needs. and WAR have the evasion of a ROCK. so again 1-10 it scores 8 if you wanna nock this out easily bring 3DD 2Healer and 1SMN have the DD sub something like bst and bring a pet ie. less damage from 1k needs. and you should be fine.

Got these for a friend last night. the fight itself wasnt too bad. It LOVES to spam 1k needles ( used it atleast like 40 times during the fight XD) we took it down pretty easily as 70Pld (me) 2 75mnk/war 75 mnk/whm ( for curaga ) 3 75 rdm/whms, 75 whm and a 67 bard. basically our strategy ( as if you couldnt tell) is to have enough ppl to absorb damage for 1k needles, then heal it all with a curaga from one of our -many- cureaga peoples. worked out very well. took about 10 min to kill it but it we still could have taken it with less than that. no deaths. as far as i can tell, its only the sabotendor spelunker at f-7 thats a placeholder, not the one on the other side of the room heading towards one of the dainslaif nm spawns. btw, no way in hell is this duoable, trioable or anything like that, simply because he hits hard, loves to spam 1k needles and is basically just a very angry monster -.-

oh and i think all that the boots add is +40 attack for kick attacks, not sure about the +10 to weapons that can be used by the other jobs. /shrug

Just got these today. Friend and I went in to check on it (thanks Vele for helping me open the door), and she was right there. Right away made a shout to my LS to get themselves down there. We had a Summoner with us, kept doing Earthen Ward to eat Needle Damage, which was really helpful. Also having a BST with a pet scorpion, as well as a wyvern, including the Avatar out helped the damage stay to a minimum. Went in there with 12 people, and only one that died was the war. Took about 10 mins to kill (he has a lot of HP) but nobody got too far down until the end when it started doing 1000 needles every 2 seconds.

Also, in regards to the pop timer, I went and checked on it 17 hours after its ToD, so it isnt 21-24 hours. Cant say how much exactly though, since I wasnt camping since ToD.

Anyways, thats my 2 cents, want to thank K4 for all the help!

Linkshell I was in was camping Cactrot Rapido the other day and after killing him most of the ls decided to go see Sabotender Bailarina was up and if he wasn't to kill Sabotender Spelunkers to get some people a gem for some quests. After killing a round of them he poped and after a long fight we killed him. They make an amazing difference in kick damage. I did a critical kick that did 200 damage the other day!!!

Last nite a linkshell party went to quicksands caves trying to get me a Tungi, for my warrior since I have gotten my antican tag earlier like in 5 mns of getting to quicksands caves.

Pop Ant NM mob Triarius, 2 minutes later I was the proud owner of a Tungi, 2 1/2 more warr lvls to use, for the time being is on my rng ^^.

Keep scanning and saw Proconsul ant NM, killed no drop (it drops a mages mostly staff, elder staff), keep scanning for more NM and saw Proconsul xiii on scan, I have fought it 2x before and no drops, this timee it drops a Daisnlaif plus some ores and gil, so far 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

Lastly I see Sabotendar bailarina, we didn't know anything about the mob lvl or how many peeps were required to beat it, but since we were killing NM ants we figured that wth, lets give it a try.

Bad mistake, our party was made of 2 rngs 75 (I was one and trelond), nin 75, 2 rdms 75/70 (Ikhnaton and Mcfadden) and thf 74 (Mollug). we have to escape out, after nin and the other rng bite the dust. we got a lil' backup help from ls, a whm 74 (Nezha) and 2 mnks 71/65 (Halflin and Inkababy) and went at it again, this time the 2x rngs and rdm 70 went down after bringing it down to about 5%, we killed it and got the Dune boots which went to our very happy to get them mnk 70 and hopefully these Boots will have that hidden effect of +40 dmg in kicks.

Special Gratzzz to Vanadielsfinest!

Do you suppose...

For the Dune Boots i dont know what u all are saying, I have fought and killed this NM twice with 12 people, in about 10 min not counting how long we waited for it to pop. Make sure u have a RDM when the cactuar does photosynthesis make sure to despell him and u will win, and 1000 needels is divided by the number of people, we was getting like 80 dmg from it. As for the effects i was told by a number of JP that Kick Attacks are +40 and for all the jobs listed it adds +10 to their main weapon that is made for the job.

RE: Dune Boots
# Apr 19 2005 at 12:04 PM Rating: Default
Just thought I'd add my experience here.

I went with a group of peeps to farm for 4 Spinal fragments or w/e for Star necklace. Our members consisted of 75RNG/NIN(me), 66THF/NIN, 75PLD/NIN(came to help + skill up, hence ninja sub) 75BRD/WHM, 75SMN/WHM, 73RDM/WHM, 61 WHM/SMN.

As we are killing Sabotenders we get 3 of the drops reather fast, I'd say 3 in about 8 or so kills. I do a search on widescan and notice Proconsul is up and we decide we would go kill after we get this last fragment. Since no one else was in quicksand caves at the time, we felt like we had time. After another sabotender killed I proceeded to the back spawn and pull it, not reading its name, thinkin it was a normal sabotender(Boy, was I in for a surprise O_o!)

I'm leveling monk, currently at 52 and during this farming/skill-up period I equipped my Destroyers(Funny a RNG can wear these) so I could work off some of the latent. Well, no one thinks anything of it as I pull the sabotender, they all think its a normal one as well. Well, I couldnt tell until after about 1 minute of hitting the thing that it was the NM that drops these Dune Boots. I finally realized when I pulledmy bow and hit him for much less than normal mobs.

All of a sudden like 3 of us realize at the same time and were like uh oh...this is the NM version. The mages were askin should we tele? We decide to test our luck, not knowing that it spams 1000 needles once it gets to 50% hp.

Things are going great for most part, I drew a lot of hate being a semi-uber RNG and the fact the PLD had no voke. Well once we get to 50% He starts goin off with 1000 needles, but the mages did an excellent job keepin HP up and the bard and rdm slept the adds for awhile til the thf started "solo'n" them.

Once we get to about 5% then every 3 or 4 seconds the NM started using 1000needles. I ended up eating the dirt at 1% and so did the thf, but the rest came out alive and I am the new owner of a ugly pair of pimptastic Dune Boots. Now to go from 52-70 in 2 weeks O_o so I can try these bad boys on.

GL to all who try for these, be sure to bring lots of healing or lots of members.
