I've completed this quest 4 times now; still no ring.
A friend has done it twice, also no ring.
I give up.

I'm debating whether or not this ring is really worth it for a PLD to get. The enmity on the grudge sword barely seemed to effect my hate control at all, but thats probably an overstatement because I don't loose hate unless whm or blm is a complete n00b (see my post in general forums to hear my complaining there). Also, is 2 enmity really worth giving up 2-3 Vit or 20 mp?

I cant believe this quest i started it farming elshomo frogs got the drop for the hands so i got curious and looked up what it was for "Mermade Ring" Cool i need one of those Wrong this has been the biggest pain the the rear farming all the parts was no problem sure ihad to kill a lot of sahigans but i didnt care it wasnt to difficult 58 Nin i windsday i turned it the itemes for the quest however the pain starts here i get to the spot the gob marked on my map it was by The Outpost i pullup on my trusty chocoboBam theres the spot so i hop off my chocobo check the spot again Nothing GONE for 14 hours i waited 14 HOURS it never did comeback.... I QUIT! no mermaid ring for me and i will not pay for it either if you have any clues that may help solve the mystery please do tell
After I saw some NINs around level 45-50 wearing this piece of ring, I wondered whow I could get one. I came on Alla and saw what I needed to do.
I started with Creek Sahagin. I killed about 20 when my THF friend came to help. After a couple of fights, we got the drop.
Spring Sahagin were located in SSG. I had a level 60 MNK help me do this part. We killed about 20 and got the drop.
Brook Sahagin were by the easiest. I killed about 5 and got the drop. Plus there were soo many.
Seww The Squidlimbed was somewhat easy to claim for the Mermaid Tail drop. I camped F-7 passed the Silver Door, killing any mobs that aggroed me. Since I was level 52, all mobs aggroed. Seww spawned and some THF claimed him with the drop. I came an hour later with a SAM 56 and a MNK in SSG to help. We got claim and drop.
Now I waited till it was Windsday to give all these items to some Gob in H-6 in Yughtunga Jungle. He indicated that the treasure was at I-6. I went there and mined the ??? only to find the following:
4K gil
A bag of grain seeds
Mythril beastcoin
Mermaid's ring
I guess you could say I was lucky! I'm happy now that I have this piece of equipement. I can finaly tank better.
P.S. A piece of advice: I strongly suggest you the map for this place. I was saved many times using tmy map. Brook and Spring drop the keys. So you'll be killing 2 birds with one stone. Good luck and good hunting ^_^ !

All that time....for jack squat, lol no ring for me. Worth 300k on Ifrit.
Well, I have just starting to get the item.. I do it slowly.. Cause I am just Nin lv45.. so they are still easy to me and mobs around can aggro me..
but with Creek .. I got it in 9 kill (take me 20mins)

my ??? is at the far NE corner of the jungle.. and just read the earlier post that there is another ??? nearby.. so.. eventhough i got the drops quickly.. i think i wasted quite a bit of time camping the wrong ???

So far i am having no luck on any items
I am getting this ring for my nin and i am starting out with the creek sahagins. ive killed around 75-80 so far and got nothing.
I have talked to the NPC goblin and he talks about the treasure. Are there any other pre-requisites to get the items?

Creek Sahagins were my biggest pain. I had to kill about 200 or so for it to finally drop. Everything else took 30mins - 3hours for the drop. Not to bad I'm waiting on windsday to finish my quest though. But to answer your question, No, you dont need to talk to anyone or do anything just start killing and maybe bring a THF. I dont see how Treasure Hunter could not benefit you in this.

well i just got the hands today. I have killed maybe 20 Springs and no drop yet. It just looks like i was a little impatient. Could a level 50 solo this NM? Im doubtful but i have not seen any information contradicting it...
Ugh, farming the items wasn't bad at all for me, but this ??? point is killing me. I keep visiting the marker over and over again and nothing...
Heard the ??? only pops between 2000-0400 - is this true?
My marker is located faaaar northeast corner, next to the ??? for a quest that spawns Nasus bees. Fortunately I was able to find that out rather than go insane pickaxing the wrong ??? forever. Not sure if everyone's marker is also in this spot. What worries me is that it's on the top of an area; there's an area below the cliff but it involves travelling thru Ifrit's to get down there and someone mentioned that's not necessary. Still makes me paranoid that my marker is actually *below* me in a tunnel or something.
Have you people literally waited a few consecutive hours for your ??? to pop? I make a visit and at most can wait from one nighttime 2000-0400 to the next 2000-0400 then I run away crying.
Is it confirmed to only spawn at nighttime?
camping the the crappy ??? if it does pop i'll tell you the time of it and stuff.

While I was lvling my bst in the grotto, all I ever saw was high lvls killing the Sahagins. Figured it had to be some reason to it since the drops are not all that great.

I killed Creeks for about 3 hours for the Mermaid Hands, not too hard.
Then Brooks for about 4 hours for the Mermaid Head, there are alot of these which makes things easy.
Then I bumped into Seww the Squidlimbed completely by accident while showing someone where the Utsusemi quest was and got the Mermaid Tail.
Then killed Springs for about 11 hours for the Mermaid Body. These were definately the most annoying because there isn't very many of them, so you really need to be the only person killing them to do it all in a complete cycle. I did get 2 Holy Ampullas from Wuur the Sandcomber (who lottery pops from Springs at H-9) while I was there, so it wasn't a complete waste of time.
So I traded the pieces to the goblin and went to the point he marked on my map. I waited there for 4 hours and the ??? wasn't popping. So I figured I'd give the choco digging a try. I dug with the choco, the ??? appeared I got off, mined and there was the chest...
So I opened it and got:
4000 gil
Beastman Seal
Beastman Seal
Coral Fragment
I knew the ring wasn't a 100% certainty, but getting nothing of any real value makes me now feel robbed. *sighs*

Some tips:
Bring your friend to farm the items with you! I seriously think the drop rate of different parts is different for each person. For me, I killed well over 500 Creek Sahagins by myself before getting that hand drop, but only 20 or so for the rest, with the help of a friend with a lucky egg and no thf sub.
The NM is not much harder than its place holder, though I could not silence him as a 68 RDM. There are 3 sahagin spawns in the square area, the BRD is the placeholder. Kill the Bard first, then take your time to kill the DRG and WHM, so that you will have enough time to kill the NM when it pops without the WHM and DRG.
To get to the treasure place, you don't have to go through Ifrit, just take the tunnel (near a Overgrown Rose I think) on the north east part. You need to go down a slope to get into the tunnel. There are 2 ??? in the area, the one you need is exactly where the Goblin Marker is. If the ??? does not spawn, move a bit till your own Marker completely overlaps with the Goblin's Marker, it worked for me.

Over a time span of about 3 months I completed this quest. I wasnt really determined to make this quest my priority espicailly after reading all of the entrys. In my down time I would camp the NM for the tail while skilling up something. I finally got the pop which Seww the Squidlimbed was very easy to solo as a 66NIN/33WAR the only thing he droped was the tail.

After 4 weeks of questing, we finally got this last night. So, here's a few clarifications/hints.
Mermaid Hands: Yuhtunga Jungle - Creek Sahagin
These spawn right outside the Entrance to Norg.
Mermaid Body: Sea Serpent Grotto - Spring Sahagin
As you enter Sea Serpert Grotto, keep left until you drop down some stairs. The Spring are on this level, and about as tough as the Creek. You can also camp a NM that drops the Holy Ampule at the same time, since he's a lottery spawn from the Spring Sahagins in one location. If interested, look up the item Holy Ampule.
Mermaid Head: Sea Serpent Grotto - Brook Sahagin
Theses are a bit tougher, and they link like mad. As you fall down the stairs mentioned above, hug the left wall. Keep going left, past the Ornamented Door and down. You'll soon find a room of Brook and Rivulet Sahagin. This is the piece that took us forever to get.
Mermaid Tail: (F-7) Sea Serpent Grotto - Seww the Squidlimbed
As someone said above, the spawn is at (G-7), (F-6), and (M-10), beyond the Silver Beastcoin door. If you don't know how to get there, there's a great description for how to do it attached to the Utsusemi: Ichi quest from Norg. The spawn is a little area, but as you move a little <pos> will report different things. Basically, it's a big flat area with a dropoff boardering the far side and a little side tunnel forking to the right off it. The side tunnel has 2 sahagin and one crab spawn in it, and makes a good camp. The side tunnel is also a chest spawn. ^^ I recommend keeping the side tunnel and flat area clear of sahagin, as they will gleefully link with the NM and eat you. The NM himself is about as hard as a Brook, and a group of a 52WHM/BLM, 52MNK/WAR and 52 NIN/THF killed him (and some links) easily.
Once you have all 4 parts, go to Yuhtunga Jungle (H-6) on Windsday, and talk to a goblin NPC called Peddlestix. Trade him the items. He'll mark your map. Run there, and look for ???. You DO NOT have to dig with a chocobo for the ??? to show up. You DO have to be patient... it doens't always spawn immediately. When it does, trade a pickax to it.

The quest just sounds like a giant timesink. 400K for a ring really hurts, but (Hello!) (Auction House).
I bought this exactly when I hit 43 with my PLD awhile ago. At the time it was 200k. Currently, it is 500k! I can sell it if I wanted to for more than double the price (o.o). Anyways, it seems like a good idea to go try and quest this, but if what everyone says is true, about how you may mine and get a random item which may be mermaid ring, I don't know if it's worth it. I would hate to farm these guys for like a month to get a 2k gem instead. Just my thoughts. Also, I'll see what I can do about putting up a pic of this on Allakhazam for everyone.
Question: if i mine with full set of worker gear that I have, do I have better chance of getting mermaid ring? tell me what you think. Also, does it matter day you go to mine for this? Maybe watersday seeing as how mermaid ring has water stats? IDK, don't know much about quest but trying to find solutions.

Ok, long story short, it took me about 2 hours to farm up the head and hands. Another 90 minutes or so to get Seww the Squidlimbed to pop, and he dropped the Tail on the first kill. I assume he does on EVERY kill.

Then, I spent A WHOLE MONTH, on and off, farming Spring Sahagins for the Mermaid Body. Every day or so, I'd spend 2-4 hours, or more, farming Sahagin, Oozes, and more Sahagin, until FINALLY, today, I got the Mermaid Body.
I swear, I think dodge earrings are a higher percentage drop: I got 3 of them in that month. Not to mention the countless stacks of shall shells, seashells, and elshimo frogs/newts. I also got the Sea Serpent Grotto Treasure chest a GRAND total of 43 times. Yes sir's 43. That equals out to about 210k in gil from that chest, not to mention the other 200k or so from shall shells, seashells, frogs and newts.
Oh, and yeah, I got the ring. That crate gave me the ring, a mythril beastcoin, an amethyst, and some grain seeds. As well as 4k gil. Not incredibly bad for spending FOREVER on this quest. ^^
My only question is: Is it repeatable? If I were to farm up more mermaid parts, could I in fact get another Mermaid Ring, under the assumption I sold the first one?

lol glad you got what you were after in the end, hope i do too, 2-3 weeks after i started farming spring ahagin every day jsut like you, still prayin for drop. my only question is do you actually sell all those newts/frogs/seashells? i must have tossed 50-60 stacks of seashells by now, heck thats 120k, but who in the hell has time to sell em all lol.

looking for somone who has done this.
went there with 59ninja and a buddy with 71 drg spent about 5hours killing the wrong sahagin only got on drop from the squidlimbed NM called it a night. next ngiht go back, find the creek sahagin in yuhtunga jungle, kill those bout 20min get drop at same time drg friend was inside killing brook sahagin, got drop in about 20 min as well. we switch places, and 40 minuts later i have drop from brook sahagin and he has drop from creek sahagin. go back to the NM squidlimbed kill placeholder, he pops next kill him get drop. now we both have 3/4 drops mostly all in one night, so we move to the next type, spring sahagins. only 6 pops in the zone, and they only spawn in that zone, 10 minute spawn time, takes us about 6 minutes to run aroudn and kill em all then get back to first one wait 4 min and start again. s hours later and about 60 kills no drop, we call it a night. come back the next day with a 62thf and kill spring sahagins for 6 hours. no drop. since then we have put in two more 6+ hour nights just killing spring sahagin and still havnt seen a mermaid's body drop. probly killed somewhere in the neighborhood of 4-600 springies while both subbing thf (th1) and havnt seen squat. were starting to wonder if infromation provided is incorrect, and spring sahagin do not in fact drop the mermaid body can somone please give some kinda verification of this? seems odd to get the other drops about 1/30 and then go 0/500 on spring sahagins?
onlything good so far is one of the spring sahagins is a placeholder for wurr the sandcomber so we've killed him 3 times, 2 holy ampulets, 80k each on lakshmi ^^ starting to think ill be able to buy mermaid rings with ampulet money before im able to get a mermaid body to drop ; ;
went there with 59ninja and a buddy with 71 drg spent about 5hours killing the wrong sahagin only got on drop from the squidlimbed NM called it a night. next ngiht go back, find the creek sahagin in yuhtunga jungle, kill those bout 20min get drop at same time drg friend was inside killing brook sahagin, got drop in about 20 min as well. we switch places, and 40 minuts later i have drop from brook sahagin and he has drop from creek sahagin. go back to the NM squidlimbed kill placeholder, he pops next kill him get drop. now we both have 3/4 drops mostly all in one night, so we move to the next type, spring sahagins. only 6 pops in the zone, and they only spawn in that zone, 10 minute spawn time, takes us about 6 minutes to run aroudn and kill em all then get back to first one wait 4 min and start again. s hours later and about 60 kills no drop, we call it a night. come back the next day with a 62thf and kill spring sahagins for 6 hours. no drop. since then we have put in two more 6+ hour nights just killing spring sahagin and still havnt seen a mermaid's body drop. probly killed somewhere in the neighborhood of 4-600 springies while both subbing thf (th1) and havnt seen squat. were starting to wonder if infromation provided is incorrect, and spring sahagin do not in fact drop the mermaid body can somone please give some kinda verification of this? seems odd to get the other drops about 1/30 and then go 0/500 on spring sahagins?

okay nevermind, bout 2 hours after i posted this a spring sahagin dropped a mermaid body something around 1/500 anyhow i didnt notice it drop with all the seashells and elshimo frogs i had been getting, invintory was full and i lost it. farmed about 8 hours since then, still no luck. by this point its pretty obious i could have farmed even at 5k and hour and bought both rings by now, but im a stubborn fool, gonna keep trying.
Price has jumped from 300k two weeks ago to 600k now. That justifies me trying to get the pieces rather than buy it.

Ok just got this, Did everything. Problem is while on doing it meet a guy that has done it 5 times and no "Drop". When you dig its a 50% youll get the mermaid ring. Good Luck!

this ring was only 190k on fairy when i bought it well worth not wasting my time on this quest
