just got finished doing this quest, just some info about it.
drops with TH2 seemed to be about 1/40 or so... on Creek, Brook, and Spring Sahagins.
NM dropped first time, and that's all it dropped, Im WAR44/NIN22, and i had a 58 DRG helping me. The NM Seww the Squidlimbed spawns after the Silver doors, When i was at the area, i checked pos of (G-7), (F-6), and (M-10) (it's like that, cause even though they are in the same room, the room is part of 2-3 maps.) Spawn for him took about 1.5 hours, and we pwned him. He handed out 8exp to the DRG, which mean he's the same lvl as the other mobs in the room, which i believe is about 46-48..
Woohoo! Going on my quest today. Ill update you all in about 2-3 days. ^^ 74 PLD friend is going to help me! Woohoo! Wish me luck, I'll post results l8er!
Well I did this quest. It took me about 3 days to get all the mermaid items. I only played about 4 hours a day. After I got all 4 items I traded them in and got my map marked. (The NM was easy to solo at level 60 as my ninja.)
So I went to the marked spot on the map and had to wait for about an hour for the ??? to show up. There was another player there looking for the ring as well. I found the ??? first and was nice and told him where it was. I traded my axe and was very vey happy to get the ring. As the +2 Enmity is very helpful for my ninja. I felt bad for the other player because all he got was a rock of some sort.
tanks need hate, and enmity gets you hate.... especially on higher levels, where a blm, rng or sometimes drk or thf can do so much damage they get aggro a lot, these rings and other +enmity items make your life as a tank a whole lot easier!
ok, to clarify things, after trading the items and getting the map marker the ??? will not automatically appear. You have to get gyshal greens, go to the spot between 20:00-4:00 dig with the choco, stand still, *then* the ??? appear. Get off the choco, dig with the pickaxe and pray. After spending about 25 hours getting the items and another 20 hours trying to figure out why i couldn't find anything at the marker i have *finally* completed this quest.... and i got coral fragment... 2.5k on asura. Let me just take this opportunity to thank SE for finding such a ingenious way in which to waste my time.
got all the items, turned them in, got my marker, bought pickaxes, ran to marker... nothing there... not a damn thing. searched for a solid hour. tried mining without anything targeted and standing on the exact spot of the marker and nothing. any ideas?
Here's some more information on this quest and it's not pleasant. First, some of the parts that drop are insanely rare -- hundreds of sahagin of the proper type slain with TH2 before you'll see a drop. Second, each part is rare/ex. You can only collect a single part of each type. Why might you want to collect more? Because 4 parts does not equal a ring. Four parts to Peddlestox will cause him to put a marker for a treasure chest on your map that you need to dig up.
When you dig it up, you *might* perhaps get the ring. After about 40H of camping parts, I eagerly ran over to Peddlestox for my ring. He gave me a treasure box location. Fun fun -- a nice quest that keeps on going. When I got there and dug it up, I got a Lapis Lazuli. A gem worth about 2k.
Be prepared for enormous frustration if you want the ring. Frankly, at the costs in AH, it is far far easier to just raise the gil and buy it.
Does anyone know where in the hell you find this ring? There are only 5 on my server and only our Japanese players know where to get it...and they arent telling.

The door marked with "A" at N-14 is the silver coin door (at least as far as i know since it takes a silver coin, "C" requires gold beastcoin, and "B" i havent checked but im assuming mythril or something for continuity?), so once you go through there you head north and it should be right by where there is the drop down to get out of there without going throught he door. There are tons of the right sort of saghains there (although there are tons of saghain everywhere in SSG so what does that show), so presumably thats the spot, though when i was there the saghains were not giving my friend and I good skillups on our weapons so we didnt stick around to see if the NM was going to pop or anything.
