calling all thieves!
# May 10 2005 at 4:37 PM Rating: Decent

SE should turn this knife in to a rare/ex or quest. why? ill tell you why. 1st its called the "THIEF'S KNIFE". so sad when you see other job or gil sellers camping it (monk, bst, rdm, war, nin) so they can sell it. while you've stayed there camping Sozu Rogberry for 6 days having only 9 hours of sleep because you need the knife to help ur friends get their dynamis AF, genkai 1, coffer keys and stuff like that, and theyll just beat you guys to it. 2nd the drop is very hard. "THIEF" a money making job and you cant even get your own knife when your job is written all over it. 3rd you got the knife "YAY" you still have to pay SE 15 dollars a month. so you lose either way. thieves who camped or camping sozu should know what im talking about. so i say all thieves should write SE a letter in E~mail support and suggest them to turn this s2pid knife to a rare/ex or quest. if you look at the sensus 500/3000 players are thief in 1 server. imagine SE getting 500 E~mails frm every 1 server.

or better yet. we all know TH1 and TH2 is messed up, sometimes u have a feeling that its broken. so if they dont want to turn this knife to a rare/ex why not give us a new trait at lvl 65 or 70 a new improved TH3 huh. or how bout a new pulling job ability for theives just like wars have voke, or bst with charm. SE give us a break, you guys already made the thief job very weak to solo EP mobs. sometimes i feel useless, if it werent for my TH1 and TH2 i wonder if i will still get invited to PT.

# May 11 2005 at 2:11 PM Rating: Excellent
I agree totally with that, it should be ex/rr, I hate to see ppl camping it with no thf job even lvled up, plus drop rate sux. 1/8 and helping fellow thf's out with it also... now 1/26
RE: calling all thieves!
# May 11 2005 at 11:50 AM Rating: Excellent
yes it should definately be a rare/ex but NOT quested, oh come on, quested? that's even more pathetic than other jobs camping it for the purpose of gils. sorry if i sound like a loser, but i just recently got my knife, 1/9, and i'm happy as hell. when i claimed it, i quickly told a friend to come with his knife and kill it with the TH3 and it actually dropped. the next day a rng sees me with the knife and said he's gonna go camp it himself, because if i can get one, he can get one also. i was just laughing and thinking how dumb he's going to look standing there for hours without any TH to support the drop. but yeah, i am intereted in this debate haha, hope it actually happens.
RE: calling all thieves!
# May 11 2005 at 3:03 PM Rating: Decent
it could happen! if we work together. we are the 1 whos paying them 15 dollars a month. and most of all this is our game after all, we r the 1 whos playing it not them. i say those people in SE should try to camp this knife and see what they think bout the drop rate. see! the problem is they didnt know how hard it is to wait for sozu, + the drop rate is so messed up. i guess SE doesnt really care bout their customers. Don't take this the wrong way, but that is not always true, if it were always true, business would be bankroupt and out of business because ppl would demand things their way. SE is a business like any other, their purpose is to make money by selling things (in this case, games and monthly fees) to the public.

I know this sounds like I support them, I do, but only as a business, however, SE is lacking in customer support area.

Just my $0.02 cents from a person who actually works/runs a business in the public service industry.

I got this yesterday. I logged in right after maintenance to see Sozu just standing there. I attacked him, got him toa round 15% and he Throat Stabbed me then killed me not long after. So I HPed, grabbed a tele and went back for round 2. Killed him and he dropped. Nearly had a heart attack when I saw the knife. I am currently 1/13. Last knives were sold for 15-16mil on Lakshmi (I sold one of them for a friend to a JP THF the other day). Could easily get 20 mil+ if I wanted to.

Maybe I don't know what the heck I'm talking about, but wouldn't listing something - even in one of the player nations - on the AH for 99,999,999g cost about 2mil? And in Jeuno, over 10mil? Maybe I don't understand the way the AH works since they changed it, but I thought it was Listing Price + 2% in the cities, and + 10% in Jeuno? Much more effective to have it sent to yourself and leave it in your inbox. Anyway, where did he said he *had* two? I thought he said he'd had two drops.

More to the point, any boost to TH is worth it in the long run, especially if you farmed the drop. Personally, I have no doubt I want this knife if/when I get THF to 70. But yeah, anything selling for that kind of money is 'overrated', but not if you can get one the hard way.

Got my Knife the other day but something seems strange.

On Average on my server, Lakshmi, the Knife dropped about once a month. Since the {sea} update 3 knifes dropped in one week, and i got the 4th one. (I ended up being 1/12 on it w/ Lucky egg and Millionair Desk, and two of my freinds got it too, one was 1/31, and another was 1/62!!!) So has SE changed the drop rate on this cuz this is very strange. Although im not complaining, before there was always a non THF camping that and it really pissed me off cuz they always got the claim, MNK=Chi Blast, NIN=Voke, Mage=Dia, about 1/3 of the time a THF actually got the claim on my server. anyways of the 4 recent drops, the first one to get it was a MNK, grrr, he got B listed by all the THFs when they saw him put the knife for sale in the AH.

So unless your a THF, dont camp this, you NEED TH2 for this otherwise your just wasting pops and alot of your time. yes its worth alot of money, but you can camp Argus better then camp this, the drop rate is too low for you NOT to have Th2. its Called THF's Knife, not Monk or Ninja Knife. Also dont start saying "Then why do people camp E bow if its only for rangers" or compair it to other items. its simple, the drop rate is too horrible for you not to have Th2, your wasting your time, and wasting the time of the THFs who know they can get it sooner then you if you would stop claiming it from them.

"Its a slap to every THFs face when a non THF camps this."

this is by far the best knife in the game, it has the TH+1(everyone can benefit from that ^^) But look at it's dmg and delay, AMAZINGLY good, have this and a harpe, you would own all, or.....this and ridill at high lvl for farming, use this in pt even, well maybe not, if u choose to i would go for both the harpe weps for SATA, but if u can get this do it, it is GREAT all around, better then the gully in my opinion, (dmg and delay wise)

ANY THF SHOULD TRY FOR THIS

Well this is expected. peacock charm drop rate for me is 1/2 (yup I am a lucky *******) and the charm cost 10 mil. While knife drop rate is maybe 1/60, its normal that the price went up. Notice when the knife is sold. Nowadays, everything cost more gil than before.

Last sale was for 11 million on Valefor. Then it never listed for a few months, and all of a sudden put one up. It sold for 20 million. Next one 21 million, now 22 million. Although the price tag is annoying, this is probably one of the most rare drops in the game. I plan to fight for mine when I hit 74, but I know many thieves who have fought him more times than they are willing to count without getting the drop. These people have spent weeks in Ugglepih desperatly trying for one.

Really not looking forward to it but soloing your thief's knife to me will kind of be a right of passage.

ok, a bunch of mages were camping wyvern skulls. they killed 30 wyverns and got 0 drop. then i joined them with my thf's knife, we got 3 skulls in 5 fights. and i didn't even fought the wyvern (mages are sleep nuking them)... so thf's "last hit kill" theory is not true. what else... carbuncle ruby is too easy to drop with me around.

Currently working on dynamis to get th4.
Also i am 0/12 with sozu. I bought the knife for 9 mil (current price is 11 mil on fenrir) cauz there are sozu campers now... thf/nin just can't win pull.

Bs, thf can claim sozu just as much as any other job can. Just being lucky enought for it to pop near you, so you can mug or steal, thats all voke just has range. If, you know there are other campers around, sub war, get alots of sleep bolts, and potion. Then get ready for a fun time ^.^

a few months ago (from a link on this website i think) there was an article straight from the developers that had specific information on TH1&2--->both increase the odds of ANY drop, th2 is just a much better version. Yes th1 does affect rare/ex items they said. Just as th2 affects all drops at am even greater rate. if anyone knows where that article is and has the link, could they repost it somewhere? here seems just as good a place as any. it also bashed the rumors of voke lowering drop rates and the info on having a better chance of getting drops the closer you are to the level of the mob... it was an awesome article (i should have bookmarked it ><)... lots of good info/stats on th3 and 4 too (when you have both TH+1 equips)...

He meant 11 Million gil. If you look, there are only 8 spots for it to possibly be, so one of the zeros was a typo. Secondly, around the world they use different notation for decimals and other things. I know France does this, not sure about other countries. 11.000.000,00 means 11,000,000.00 gil or 11 million gil.

With the possible treasure hunter 1+ from the Lucky egg wouldn't it be possible to get up to 5? The knife, the gloves, and Treasure hunter +2 job trait, then the egg in your inventory. When it is eatten i have heard "Rumors" that it gives you treasure hunter +4 or something while it is active. Not sure exactly how it works although i don't think there are meny that do. But with the egg atlest it is possible to have treasure hunter 5 at the lest wether it needs to be eatten or just be in your inventory.

It functions like all the +1 additions to Steal on a lot of the Thief AF and AF2 gear. It adds value to the ability.

I don't know the math but think of it like this:

If a regular player had a 1 in 20 chance of getting an item, 'Treasure Hunter I' would up that chance to 1 in 15, and 'Treasur Hunter II' would make it 1 in 10. If this and the AF2 Armlets add +1 to Treasure Hunter, then in the end it would be like a 1 in 9 chance with just the Knife, and a 1 in 8 chance with the Knife and the Armlets de la AF2.

I am not an expert on Treasure hunter, but that is how it seems to work with other skills. Treasure hunter is very complicated, is also affects what is dropped as much as whether or not you get a drop... And fom my experience, I think it levels, or gains potency with time...

I have been scouring the net looking for the quote from an interview with square... The one thing that stuck out was the way the guy worded his response. it was something alonge the lines of "If you have a thief skilled with the treasure hunter job ability, it might be a good idea to iclude them in your party.

Still looking for the quote... I will edit this in time...

Edit:
Found the quote!
Quote:
We are unable to give too many details with regards to the value of points. However, if the thief is skilled with the Treasure Hunter job ability, it may not be a bad idea to adventure with a thief. Also, with regard to gil, when a thief joins a party, there are no changes to the amount of gil obtained.

Interesting theory, but after reading the article and verifying the date of the interview, I was disappointed to see that it was conducted not long after the inital NA release. If you skim towards the bottom, they ask things like 'How long can a DRG call its wyvern' and other similar novice questions. This leads me to belive that 'skilled in the Treasure Hunter ability' simply means a THF that possess TH1 and/or TH2. The word 'skilled' was probably the closest or best phrase that accurately translates the answer. (Remember, this interview was almost definitely conducted in Japanese.)

I read a really good short theory on TH may work...
That it didn't go by %. But that after every kill you have a certain amount of shots at the loot pool. Say without TH you have just one shot. Add TH and you have two shots, TH II and you have three and so on and so on. That seems like the most practical way. Sort of like free throws in BBall.

I think you are dead on. From my experience this seems to be exactly how TH works. While farming with a variety of job combinations and party configurations, I've taken careful notice of what gets dropped, how often and how many. When I farm with my ranger subbing 15+ thf, I notice that more often than not I receive one drop off most mobs, i.e. a fang or a skin off tigers. Sometimes I receive both. I can't say that I've ever received 2 fangs off a single tiger while solo farming. When farming with other people, one tiger can often yield 3-4 drops (some of them the same thing, like 2 fangs), suggesting that each person in the PT has a chance for a drop, some win their roll some don't. I do believe however that there is some sort of restriction on receiving multiples of the same item, i.e. you wouldn't get two meats off a cockatrice but instead you would get a meat, a feather and a skin since this particular mob has three different items it drops. Add more people to the PT and you might start to see the same item stack up, as I believe from observation that each PT member gets a new chance at each item, but I could be wrong--I need to do more testing. So don't take any of this as gospel.

So, if this is indeed the case, it seems that the controversy over whether TH helps with rare/ex drops like coffer keys is solved. More dips into the possible treasure pool per kill equals more chance of getting a drop period (how many times have you killed a key dropper and gotten no drop at all), and thus a greater chance for that drop to be the rare item you seek. I encourage everyone to keep trying things and observing the results until we all discover the true nature of this trait.
RE: TH
# Jun 19 2004 at 1:29 PM Rating: Decent
thought i should add that i have gotten two of the same item from one monster before. For instance, multiple yagudo feathers from one yagudo while soloing even without THF as job. I have also scored 2 fangs from one monster before under the same circumstances. It's obviously harder to get two of the same item from one monster, but still a possibility...

Hmmm, not all that rare an occurance I think:

I have gotten 2 rabbit hides from wild rabbits in
Easr Ronfaure many times without any TH at all.

I generally get 1-2 horns and 3-6 hides from rams
in LaThiene and Konstacht with TH1

Multiple Yagudo feathers more often then not even
without TH

I suspect that each mob has a table of drops like
these:

Wild Rabbit - East Ronfaure

Item Drop %

Rabbit Hide 25
Rabbit Meat 10
Rabbit Hide 5

Jaggedy Eared Jack

Item Drop %

Rabit Meat 25
Rabbit Hide 10
Rabbit Meat 5
Rabbit Charm 1

I think that some mobs, like rams, must have
10 or even more entries. I suspect that any one
person can only get one item from each slot in
the table and then it's empty. I believe that
the various levels of thf simply add another shot
at each item. There may also be a second table
for the "rare" drops ie..

Leaping Lizzy

Item Drop %

Lizard Tail 25
Lizard Skin 10

Rare Item Drop %

Leaping Boots 20

This could then result in only TH2 and the TH+
items giving an additional shot at the Rare Items
while other items such as 4 Leap Mandy Bulb,
Lucky Egg, Millionaire's Desk migh allow more
shots at only the normal drops. Just a theory and
I'm not convinced that any items other then the
TH+ ones improve drop rates at all.

Once again, this is pure speculation and I have
no way to test it as I am only a level 40 thf at
this time. Nevertheless it does seem like it
would fit alot of the anecdotal evidence that I
have seen.

I believe this is correct.

Not long ago in Garlaige Citadel our experience group (no TH) got 8 drops off a bat. Four crystals (4/6 made the roll, and 4 bat items (again, 4 successful rolls from the six of us).

I'm positive this is how it works . . . at least I'll go along with it, it seems perfectly reasonable to me.
