95? Yikes! If it is THAT hard to make no wonder Ikea always make incomplete ones.
Cheap solution

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy a bunch of cupboards from the npc in San D'Oria? They have less elemental power, but I think that even if you bought twice as many, you'd still pay less then you would for bookshelves.

sure as long as you dont mind mog hancement fishing. but if you need to get somethin different you might wanna avoid overloadin in water based furniture. I recently replaced my commode with one of these so i could put my Freshwater aquariam im my mog without losin my moghancement region (increased conquest points for my country)

I'm Looking into either Buying or having crafted 20 Bookshelves, I currently have 20 Cabinets, for the 80 storage, but I would love the Fire element. I'm currently farming and saving my gil, Is there anyone on Leviatian that can give me a quote for crafting such items, or maybe i can obtain the materials ect.

This recipe is wrong.

Correct recipe for a normal bookshelf is:

3 x Mahogany Lumber
3 x Tufa (Bought from Goldsmithing guild)
wrong reciepe
# Jul 26 2005 at 9:14 AM Rating: Default

Woodworking (95)
Goldsmithing (--)
Yield: 1
Crystal: Earth
Brass Ingot x1
Ebony Lumber x3
Lacquer Tree Lumber x2
Mahogany Lumber x2
Dont quote me on this but the reciepe they say above is wrong. Mine I believe is rt if memory is correct might be 3 mah and 2 ebony

In short... Bookshelf goldsmithing cap is LOWER than 46...
Not 52 as listed on mystery tour and ffxi.cannotlinkto!
Goldsmithing is still required, just has a lower cap :(

Here's my story:
I saw on mystery tour that the goldsmithing cap for woodworking was 52 and cap for woodworking was 95... so i thought hey, this is great, i can make bookshelves while breaking even (cost me 80k, sells for around 90k but take a loss of around 10k on average from broken synths... I like to get skill ups faster while taking a higher chance to break, especially on slow selling items that allow me to breakeven, ***** the tiny profit if i craft conservatively hehe, the time it takes for bookshelves to sell out of my AH, i could have sold 20 stacks of mahogany lumber at 30k profit each)
My woodworking was 91, i can take it up to 95, goldsmithing is 46 take that up to 52, perfecto!
WRONG... the cap is below 46... after 20 synths i got 0 gold smithing skill ups and lots of woodworking skill ups.

I also tried talking to the advanced support dude and the medium support dude and neither of them were suggesting bookshelf recipe. :(
Oh well... makes me wonder what a royal bookshelf's goldsmithing cap is... hehe though crafting this badboy will be a major loss if no one buys it or if i *gulp* take a critical break so at most i'll try it once or twice for the sake of knowing the real GS cap hehe...

(I reposted this on the tradeskill forum - figured more people would see it there at first but eventually get lost, while here it's more permanent)

I have made 20 with GS at 45 and have yet to receive a GS skill-up. This definitely has a lower cap that any of the various sites (Allakhazam and Mystery Tour have 52 and Somepage says 49) say.

You got one for 90k? I wish I was so lucky.

These are going in Bastok, Leviathan server, for 140k+. >.> you evil people ; ; {j/k}.

Apparently, once placed in your moghouse, after a certain amount of time, your moogle shall find an item in this bookshelf. What it is, I do not know.
Can anyone clarify this "item from the bookshelf" question?

I think you are referring to the cupboard that is purchased from an NPC in sandy, which can be found here.

I have 3 of them. Well... the fire element will save more of the materials were you to fail in your synth. As in improving them, no.

But fire is such a great element. For cooking, smithing, goldsmithing. Sure those bookshelves cost me a pretty penny, but I'm keeping them since I'm sure I'll be failing left right and center, esp with goldsmithing when I'd cry to materials.

Can anybody confirm this recipe Alla has listed??

The guild tells me this recipe.

Necessary Skills: Woodworking, Goldsmithing
Necessary Crystal: Earth Crystal

Mahogany Lumber x3
Slabs of Tufa x3
95 woodworking?
# Aug 23 2004 at 7:56 AM Rating: Good
In a world where only carpenters with 95 woodworking skill are capable of making a bookshelf, everyone would keep their books in milk crates on the floor like a bunch of college students.

Sheesh.

This thing is really hard to find and I have been looking for one for a month. I was in Jeuno like 2 days ago and happen to be looking threw the furniture and there was one there I bid and Bid and ended up dropping 90K, well I am broke now but I do have the Moghancement:Fire now from this and my Cupboard. This also gives 4 extra storage slots in which I really needed also. 90K though ouch, let go of my<---leg--->.
