when i talk to castilchat, he just says something about if I don't prepare myself i'll get beat up, as soon as we gather our companions we'll be jumping into battle..., but he doesn't give me the tuning fork? and I can't start the quest, yet I got the tuning fork from the taru next to him for the high lvl fight? Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I'm sort of hurting for space in my inventory(not enough fame for gobbie bag quest and for some reason the bronze bed quest wont activate)I beat shiva recently and I'd like to know; Is there any reason whatsoever I would need the tuning fork again? hehe, maybe If I keep it in my inventory as a BRD, my songs will have better effect 'cause I'm always in tune. ; )
full sized fork

Is there anyway to get a mini fork if you've already gotten the full sized one? I did a bunch of selbina runs so when I went to get the mini fork, I got the full sized one instead.
leftover forks

Woo! Just beat my first Avatar Prime, Garuda!

Question is, what do you all do with the fork after the battle? Keep it? bin it?
Level Req
# Jun 07 2004 at 3:46 PM Rating: Decent
Yeah, I am having the same problem. Level 5 fame in Sandy and my smn is level 11. Should try to get the fame up and hjob level up then try again, perhaps when I am actually ready to fight Shiva.

my friend almost killed Leviathan at level 19 SMN, i laugh when he said he was gonna fight em 1 level lower then the capped version. But oddly enough he survived till Leviathans 2hr came -_-

and you need alittle fame, (at least to the point the person questions if he knows you or not)

and at least SMN 15
Level Requirement
# Apr 24 2004 at 10:27 AM Rating: Decent
I believe there is a Level requirement. I'm on Asura server and I have enough fame to get the Trial by Ice quest, but when I asked the partner, all I got was a small conversation bewteen Gulmama and her partner. My summoner is level 8 so I think it isn't a fame issue other than you need level 6 (in my opinion) but that your Summoner needs to be a specific level as well. Hope this helps.

I had originally gotten the quest with my level 20 Summoner, but then deleveled. When I went to fight Shiva, they still allowed me to be warped and fight at level 19. So that's proof that you can attempt it at less than 20, however I don't know if getting the quest at 20 had anything to do with it. >.<

Yes, I know for sure the level cap is 20. But, I'm not exactly sure about the level requirement to do it. Someone on my linkshell said 15, and they heard of someone level 18 doing it.
subjob for this
# Apr 24 2004 at 1:43 AM Rating: Decent
what do you think the best subjob for this battle and the other mini avitar battles would be? I have tried white mage but have not actually engaged in physical combat because I spent too much time healing myself. I know that you have to manage to pull off astral flow and I have hreard that a hit of 240 is over half the avitars hp... but how much hp do the easy avitars have? would it be a good idea to just bring a lot of potions into ther battle to heal yourself and sub black mage for the damaging spells.... you'll have bio and aero... not that great but bio is nice. the only great disadvantage to subbing black mage in the extra low hp. I have tried the quest twice and I managed to hit shiva for 57 and 40 ni total per try. the first time I didnt heal very much because I was too surprised to know what to do. the end time she did blizzard 2 which hit me for 1-4. my max hp is... 183 and I was already down a bit so that brought me down to 2 hp... needless to say I died

Smn/Blu FTW!

Blue mage subjob works wonders since with cocoon's high defense than protect, metallic body, and pollen is better than cure 1. For solo purposes on summon, I think blue mage is the way to go at low levels.

of all the 3 subjobs that I've tried (WHM/BLM/RDM) RDM is definately the best, at the begining of the battle cast protect and barsleep on yourself, barsleep because shiva has an ability that can put you asleep, then cast carbuncle and a Yagudo Drink and let carbuncle engage shiva, after that cast blind and bio on shiva, do astral flow+ searing light and then get away from her as far as you can and use an ether and/or an hi-potion if she hit you, then after carbuncle dies, recast and do another searing light and run away from shiva so that if she does her astral flow ability it won't kill you, use ether and hi-potion if needed. finally when carbuncle dies again, recast and do your last searing light, if shiva doesn't die, keep attacking her untill she dies. remember to always keep distance from shiva so you won't get killed by her astral flow ability. good luck on your fights.

Another valid subjob for these quests is NIN, surprisingly. Although you won't get Utsusemi with /NIN at lev 20, you do get dual wield... so you can have a pair of Hermit's Wands.

Those wands, along with a Silver Obi +1 (waist) will give you 58% spell interruption reduction. I've found that I can normally recast Carby even with the avatar bashing on me with this setup.

Sounds odd but it works well. Some say this doesn't work with Ramuh, but I did it that way - just went in pre-buffed with Barparalyzra.

So far I have beaten Titan, Ramuh, Ifrit, and Shiva that way - and I didn't even have Protect or Shell for Shiva.

A hit of 250 is not over half the avatar's HP. In fact, it's about 1/4. I estimate the avatars to have about 900-1000 HP.

For more info, check out the actual quest page here instead of the tuning fork page. ^^

There is a level requirement, it is definitely higher than level 7; and it may be as high as level 15; if anyone has received this quest as summoner of level 14 or lower please respond.

Are you sure it's a level requirement and not just a fame issue? I can't tell you if either are related, since I have enough fame for the "regular" avatar quests and my Summoner was level 18 when I got Trial Size Trial by Ice, but I'm thinking it's just fame and not level. And I wouldn't be surprised if the fame needed is the same fame needed for the "regular" avatar quests. Also, even though Castilchat (the NPC that gives the quest) says you must be level 20 to do it, you actually don't. You just won't have much of a chance of winning if you're lower than 20.
