Are they worth it?
# Feb 21 2006 at 7:23 AM Rating: Decent
I really enjoy fishing... in fact I love it! Currently trying to fish up all 10,000 carps for the Lu Shangs rod and I'm level 34 at the moment. But are these waders really worth 70,000 guild points? Think about it.... they don't really give you +2 skill, only +1. Why?

Well... any serious fisherman will already have the standard fishing boots you can guy for +1 fishing skill. And anybody who gets to level 48 in fishing will be pretty serious about it and already have those boots. So in reality you are only gaining +1 fishing... not +2.

I've already clocked up about 18,000 guild points in fishing. And Im not interested in the fishing belt that I could get right now. So I will wait till I reach 48 and then get these. But to be honest if I didn't already have 18K racked up in points I'd quit this contract and start something that is worth it.... like Lumberjack for my Woodworking.

By the same token +1 skill is consistent with the bonus granted by other guilds 70k GP item. So this is not unreasonable methinks.

So you wanna know how many fish to turn in? Goto http://www.clanwind.com/ffxi/fishing/default.asp and search your fish. Theres a column that says how many points each fish is, the max points you can get for the day, and exactly how many fish that is. Hope this helps you guys!

Kida's Fishing Database has the functionality of Clanwind, and it's current.

The Clanwind DB is OK for a lot of stuff, but please note that it has not been updated for over a year. It's missing all the "new" poles, and does not always reflect the current state of the fishing world.

That site is awesome, thank you so much for posting it! It has helped me greatly with my fishing skill. Whether you are just starting out or are Lu Shang himself, the site has everything you need to know about where and when to fish.

OK, so it did take me like two months total. Started stocking fish when i hit lvl 28 with a new mule for that purpose. Once a day, talk to the guild and hope they ask for a fish you have in stock.
Some are not worth turning in, i.e. Moat, Nebimonites, since you can get 10x + the gil that the npc price, which is not much.
Basic point value per fish is roughly based on the low-fame price the npc offers you.
Finished today my 70000th point. But in the process, chasing requested fish and matching that to a place where i could lvl on other species, with same lure, etc.. Raised me to lvl 52.3.

When you get these, you'll also get the title "Fastriver Fisher" -- got mine yesterday ^^
Guild point limit

There's a very pesky limit to how many guild points you can get from each fish.

I've been stuck at about 1000-3000 guild points per real day despite turning in the maximum fish for that day.

This item should take quite some time to get though... I turned in a stack of greedies and only got 180 points for em. How many points did ppl get for stacks of dark bass or cobalt jellyfish? Someone else said they were able to turn in crayfish, also...

Through talking to various fishermen, we've concluded these become available at skill level 48 or when you attain the appropriate fishing "Title".

Best thing to do for getting the 70K points:

Fish Dark Bass (cheapest of the 3 possible turn-ins I've seen, also you wont have to break poles on boat)like no tommorrow in Bastok or BUY them in AH. Save them on a mule. Check quest NPC at fishing docks to see if Dark Bass are being taken for points. If not, wait 1 earth day (or how many other Vanadiel days she says) to try again. Trade 1 fish first to calculate total needed points, trade in the rest accordingly.
Pimp your new boots out.
