doing this tonight
# Aug 25 2006 at 7:50 AM Rating: Decent
Im looking for people who want to participate in one tonight about 11:00pmEST. I already have obtained the red cryptex. Looking for the same time setup as posted earlier by acticusy with 1:2 mage/voke setup. Plan looks as good of one as you can setup so I would like to stick to that. I will be signing on by 10:30EST tonight so send me a tell to stoneyfinga if you are interested in doing this. Remember if you want in, its a lvl cap of 20 so make sure you have the appropriate gear ready.
Garison assured win!

We did something recently that was awsome. We had an alliance made up of several classas...vokers/healers/DD pretty good the acception was a BARD :D
the Bard pulled one away and kept it slept..no need to worry about MP no need to heal the bard as they are used to casting under pressure he casts foe lullaby then regen he is good to go also Bards sleep song is NEVER resisted
..make sure the bard pulls far enough away and he will hold it there till everyone heals the partisans and rests too full in between waves. It really made a difference starting each wave FUll.Also in our alliance of 15 we have only lost about 4 partisans the whole fight witch is very good. After learning this stratagegy we have yet to be unsuccessful.

Thank you Matray for organizing this event weekly and being a great bard with an awsome stategy

Presently, we have it set up where our ls gets together on a specified time each week and carries this out. Last time we had a full alliance however a full alliance is not needed; the game will adjust the number of NPCs and mobs accordingly.
Now just to give you an idea of the drops (if you are successful in completing it):

Mannequin parts
Garrison Armor
Scroll of Dragon cronicles
Gil

If you happen to be unfamiliar with what garrison is or what happens during garrison, I will elaborate further.

First off, garrison is an event where you and a pty/alliance fend off four waves of mobs while protecting NPC fighters. These fighters will assist your pty in defeating the mobs however you must keep as many as you can alive; the more NPCs that remain alive when completed the more prizes/gil your pty/alliance receives.

Anyone can participate in garrison however to initiate the Garrison the person from the respective nation must turn in a garrison item to the Outpost guard. For example, darksteel engraving >>> North Gustenberg Outpost, red cryptex >>> West Ronfy Outpost, 7-knot quipus >>> West Saruta Outpost, etc...
Once garrison begins, a platoon of NPCs will appear along side your pty/alliance at the outpost. Your pty/alliance will be lvl capped at 20.
NOTE: Because of level cap at 20; make sure your pty/alliance has the appropriate gear; moreover, make sure ppl have the garrison item to turn in also lol.... Because we schedule the event before hand, we ensure the appropriate ppl have their respective garrison item to be able to turn in; the appropriate ppl being the ppl of the nation where we are going to do the garrison for.
Now the battle ensues... 4 waves of mobs....

<Strategy>

We only comprise our pty/alliance of vokers and mages. I highly recommend it!

We have been successful with a 1:2 mage/voker ratio.

In addition to the garrison item and the lvl 20 gear, stock up on potions, which can be purchased by the Outpost guard; use a person in your pty/alliance that is from that nation. The potions purchased from the garrison guard are relatively cheaper than purchasing the item from a store/guild/ah. Furthermore, make certain that players have their respective job-enhancing foods.

Designate before the garrison begins which mages will heal pty and which ones will heal the NPCs. The vokers duties will be to pull the Mobs from the NPCs. One more key role will need to be filled...
The Kite! The "Kite" is the person who pulls a garrison mob away from battle as to keep the NPCs and pty/alliance for terminating it. The reasoning why you would want to keep a mob alive is b/c when all the mobs are killed in a wave then the next wave will immediately follow.
You don't need this to occur b/c the mages will need some time to heal the pty/alliance and NPCs.
Now recall, the mages were initially designated to heal specific groups during this event before hand; well while awaiting the next wave, have the mages suspend that initial understanding; have them spam cures to everyone (pty/alliance and NPCs) so that everyone can heal quickly.
Now back to the "Kite"...
In our garrison events, we use a NIN/WAR coupled with a BLM/WHM as our kite. The initial position prior to starting the garrison and each wave is crucial for this 2-person kiting crew; the reason why is b/c u don't need 'em too close to the NPCs and pty/alliance just to have the Kiters' mob attacked by the others. The NIN/WAR and BLM/WHM need to position themselves near the garrison mobs' spawn location.
The NIN/WAR will voke one and begin running away from oupost location; the BLM/WHM needs to communicate to the NIN/WAR if the mob voke was successful or not; the NIN/WAR and BLM/WHM will finally find a place to stop and then the BLM/WHM will sleep the mob. The mob will eventually awaken and the NIN/WAR will need to voke again so the BLM/WHM may be able to sleep it again (it is imperative the NIN/WAR has Utsusemi up b/c these mobs hit for a lot lol). Once the pty has pawned the wave and healed the pty/alliance and NPCs, have 'em let the kiters know when they are ready. Once ready, bring the mob back to the outpost and you will witness an L.A.P.D. beatdown.... then repeat this process for the following waves.

Then your finished. Congrats.

Be prepared... ppl may and usually do die from this event; moreover, if you do die, you will lose experience points on the job you are playing with. For those ppl, we compensate with the dragon cronicles (Dragon cronicles reward the person who activates this item with a non-specified amount of experience points not to exceed 999 experience points).
Also we have it in our garrison meets, where as the person who turns in the garrison item has first choice on which garrison armor he/she wants. As for the other armor pieces, we have everyone lot on 'em one-by-one; for the mannequin parts we let them fall to whom they may fall to.
NOTE: make sure you have inventory space to receive items awarded by mobs/garrison guard.

Good luck, and enjoy! ^^

RE: Experienced with Garrison
# Aug 07 2005 at 11:15 AM Rating: Decent
I'm going to add... for the NIN/WAR & BLM/WHM kiting system to work, your garrison pty must have a lot of ppl; the reasoning is b/c if u show up there with a pty of only 6 ppl, this will compromise your pty's ability in successfully completing the garrison. Moreover, although the game adjusts the number of NPCs and garrison mobs, i believe it will be extremely difficult to stay alive let alone succeed. So if you use the NIN/WAR & BLM/WHM kiting system have no less than 15 member alliance. Other kiting systems are effective; for instance, you can have a RNG kite using sleep bolts; my ls hasn't had success with it but if you want an alternative... here it is. The RNG or solo BLM may be advantageous for your particular set up if you are limited on ppl participating in this event.

Fighterchief >.<
# Nov 19 2004 at 11:02 PM Rating: Decent
This item is for the Garrison Quest. I tried it today with a 2 party alliance. We killed 3 of the waves of orcs, but then there was a 4th. The 4th has a NM called Fighterchief, its a monk type and will use hundred fists. Our alliance was destroyed. I guess you need an alliance of 3 pt's instead of 2. v.v
easy win
# Aug 20 2004 at 7:46 AM Rating: Decent
easy way to beat garrison:
u need: 2 blms with lots of yagudo drinks and a full alliance
at the start of each wave have to 2 blms pull a quadav away from the fighting and keep it slept
witch allows everyone to heal after the others are defeated once the NPCs are healed and everyone is buffed and healed and the mages have their MP have the 2 blms bring the quadava back over to finish it and start the next wave

TADA easy win, hope this helps ^^

Simple, Fail-Safe Garrison Strategy

Members: 18
Individual Party Makeup: 2 white mages, 2 Provokers, 2 Misc. (not black mage!!!!)

Battle Strategy:
Have your provokers follow the Patricians around as they engage orcs. Once the NPC Patricians have engaged an enemy, provokers must provoke that enemy. Your provoker is now taking the damage and the patricians are not. The end.

Here is a neat trick to make Garrison WAY easier.

Alliance-setup:

3PT each one has 1WHM and 1 WAR(sub)
Rest is random though RDM is highly appreciated for backup heals. BLM can do major damage but little resting time between fight usually gives problems. Rest melee of which 3 thieves.

And now for the trick. Make sure one of the PT has a RDM with magic sub and a NIN/WAR.
As the wave comes the NIN vokes 1 orc and runs off together with the RDM. NIN keeps hatred and RDM debuffs orc and heals NIN who keeps uses Utsemi:Ichi. Rest of Alliance kills orcs. After all orcs are dead the WHM and RDM heal the NPC's and rest. After all are healed, NIN finishes off the orc.
Rinse wash repeat....

Just keep in mind that the NIN must have sufficient Shihei and that the rdm must carry some mana restoring potions. Since our group can make these themselves we just split the material costs and repay the RDM and NIN. In total: we always get an item for everyone after doing garrison three times (not including mannequin pieces).

There is one backdrop on this. Mannequin feet and legs hardly sell and on Bismarck they go for about 5-10k each now :)

Succes...

Next garrison: Sunday!!!!
Always on sunday.... EACH sunday... my poor poor resources....
Pure Chaos

I was part of 12 member alliance last night formed for the purpose of completing a Garrison quest in West Ronafure. It was pure chaos.

Let me start from the beginning. The alliance leader, let’s just call her Mel, was being ordered to put the treasure setting to Pooling because she had set to Quartermaster. She did but everyone was arguing that she had not changed it and that she was trying to ***** us over. So, the alliance falls apart. It was the most childish behavior I have ever seen since first starting to playing this game last October. After rebuilding the alliance, the trouble makers realized that our Mel was the only one with the item needed to start the quest, so they invited her (yes, it looked like they were not going to let her in on the quest) and gave her a party leadership. Now the argument over the lotting has started again. Mel wanted THE quest item, and she said everything else needed to be split amongst everyone else. Everyone agreed; and I mean everyone. After about 40 minutes (real time) or so, the parties are balanced and the quest has started.

The first wave of Orcs was easily destroyed. The second wave was harder; mainly because there was not much time to heal in between battles. I believe at this point 2 people are dead. There was not enough time to raise before the third wave hit. I was at half HP before the fight even started so I immediately fired of my 2hr, “Hundred Fists” (I was a MNK/WAR). Orcs were dropping in front of me but I soon realized that I was being beaten on my 3 Orcs; apparently I was the only melee class still standing and I had been spamming my “Provoke” to keep the NPCs alive. I soon found myself lying face down in the dirt (oh yeah, you do lose XP). I immediately returned to my HP (it was set at the Outpost before the fight). It was at that point I realized I no longer had my level capped and I could not engage the mobs, but they could engage me. That’s right; if you return to your HP and try to rejoin the battle, you will not be able to attack any on the mobs but they will be able to attack you. Needless to say, we failed to hold the garrison. Oh well.

Now, during the fighting I noticed about a half a dozen people lotting on the Mannequin Legs in the treasure pool. We had all agreed to pass those to Mel. I figured what the hell. I am not going to let those ***** that had started all the trouble in the beginning to ***** over everyone, so I lotted on the legs. After everything was finished, the alliance and the parties disbanded with out any pleasantries at all. In fact the Mel was yelling about being screwed over because someone else got the legs. Apparently, she did not get a single item. Someone pointed out that I had the legs and sure enough, after checking my bag, I realized that I did. I told Mel I had them and she offered me 30k for them so I traded the item to her (I would have given them to her for a lot less because I felt they where hers any way).

So, is this quest do able with an alliance of 12? Yes, as long as you form a solid party and you leave all the children at home.

By the way, I saw someone selling Mannequin parts in Sandoria for 90k each later in the night.

THE REAL RULES
# Jun 30 2004 at 6:19 PM Rating: Decent
I have done the Garrison many times. This is what happens.

Depending on how many people you have in your party thats how many patricians you get.

you can do this in a PT with an alliance. Do not try and solo this you will lose. The person trading the item HAS TO BE SAN D'ORIAN. Everyone elses nationality doesn't matter. It is damned near impossible without one alliance.

so there is no way for a bastokian with a red cryptex to do this? no amount of sandy fame will do it? *gets ready to toss the red crytex taking up space in the safe*

Not true... the regional control of the area decides who can trade it. If an area is under Bastok Control, bastokans can exchange it. I wouldn't advise to hold on to it though. The chance of getting West Ronfaure under Bastokan or Windurstian control is almost 0.

In order to trade your item for Garrison in San D'Oria, you must BE Sandorian.

However, your alliance (do not try to do this with anything less than an alliance) can be a mix of all nations. Only the trader of the item MUST come from the nation where the Garrison is being held.

If you are from Windurst or Bastok, and you have a Red Cryptex, you can ONLY trade it to your respective outpost (Windurst-West Sarabuta, Bastok-North Gustaberg).

Vice versa, if a Sandorian gets one of the other items (Windurst is some kind of Knot, but I don't know what Bastok is) you can ONLY trade it in West Ronfaurre.

I am Only Guessing, But you May Need to Be from Sandy. The Red Cyptex Triggered the Mob for Me (Sandy Servant), and I'm going to Give it Another Try Once I get My Bst to LvL 20.

Hopefully, a charm Holds Thru LvL Cap, and I can use Pet to Focus one Gob, and I can Solo the Other, and keep NPC boy Alive >.<

I'm not the type of fellow to give full details on items but if you want more info you can search the boards.

Just a note, you'll want to do this with either a full party or full alliance. The Beastmen come in waves and each time there are more of them.

Depending on how many people you have in the party/alliance, more NPC's will spawn and as long as at least one of them is alove after the last wave then you will win.

Here is some extra info including the garrison items you can obtain.

Just went for a Solo Shot. Killing them is No Prob w/ Sam 2 Hr, but keeping 1 NPC Alive it is Quite Bothersome.

2 War or Subs to Keep hate off NPC, and you Should be Fine for This. Don't know If you Get an Extra Orc per PT Mbr. If So, The Super Crew and one NPC Meat-Shield sounds like the best Route.

More specific than Carpepuella's post...

This item is dropped from Orcish Fighters. It is Rare/Exclusive, so you can only hold one at any given time, and it is not tradeable or sellable.

Head to the Outpost in West Ronfaure. Equip yourself with level 20 or below gear. Trade the Red Cryptex to Doladepaiton, R.K. (This is the same guy have gives Signet and allows you to set your Home Point there.) The following will be said:

Doladepaiton, R.K. : What?! A surprise attack by the beastmen!? And today of all days...
Doladepaiton, R.K. : In a matter of hours, a handful of new squires will be joining the ranks of our kingdon's knights. These young patricians are quite spirited, but they lack valuable battle experience.
Doladepaiton, R.K. : While we must be cautious not to disgrace their family names, we cannot let them fall in battle. We need your assistance in protecting the future of San d'Oria!
<Your name>'s level is currently restricted to 20.

At this point two Orcish Fighters will spawn behind you near the path. An NPC named Patrician will also spawn there. The Orcish Fighters automatically aggro Patrician. You do NOT have time at this point to equip yourself in your level 20 gear. In the time it takes to do that, Patrician will be dead. >.< Also, make sure you *look* for them immediately. Since they don't aggro you, and don't spawn right in front of you, you must hurriedly find them behind you and provoke them off of Patrician.

If, in fact, Patrician DOES die, the Orcish Fighters will vanish (although they each hit me once before vanishing). Upon speaking to the Royal Knight again, the following occurs:

Doladepaiton, R.K. : Our nation suffered an enormous loss today. We must begin reinforcing our defenses immediately!
<Your name>'s Level Restriction effect wears off.

I've only tried this once, and obviously I found out what happens when Patrician dies. >.< I attempted it solo, so I am unsure as to whether a party can attempt it. However, unless it's meant to be as hard as the Trial Size avatar quests, I would assume that a party can attempt this. It would be impossible at level 20 to solo two level 21-23 Orcish Fighters without using Potions and whatnot, at least in my opinion.

No new missions or quests showed up in my logs. Perhaps after completion it will. And since I didn't keep Patrician alive, I don't know what the reward is, if any. >.<

Edit: SE has deemed the name of this "event" (for lack of a better word, since I'm not sure if it shows up as a quest) as Garrison. I have heard rumors in my LS that you need an alliance to win. We have yet to try it, but once we do, I'll update. ^^

Still haven't attempted this, but I have heard rumors that each successful Garrison gets you 5 Garrison item drops. So if you do this in a 3-party alliance, you may want to do Garrison 4 times to make sure everybody gets a drop. If not, just lot and good luck you to! ^^
