My wife got one recently, she believes it was from a copper quadav however, so still not sure about the other two. Just to let you know, one more from the coppers.

Presently, we have it set up where our ls gets together on a specified time each week and carries this out. Last time we had a full alliance however a full alliance is not needed; the game will adjust the number of NPCs and mobs accordingly.
Now just to give you an idea of the drops (if you are successful in completing it):

Mannequin parts
Garrison Armor
Scroll of Dragon cronicles
Gil

If you happen to be unfamiliar with what garrison is or what happens during garrison, I will elaborate further.

First off, garrison is an event where you and a pty/alliance fend off four waves of mobs while protecting NPC fighters. These fighters will assist your pty in defeating the mobs however you must keep as many as you can alive; the more NPCs that remain alive when completed the more prizes/gil your pty/alliance receives.

Anyone can participate in garrison however to initiate the Garrison the person from the respective nation must turn in a garrison item to the Outpost guard. For example, darksteel engraving >>> North Gustenberg Outpost, red cryptex >>> West Ronfy Outpost, 7-knot quipus >>> West Saruta Outpost, etc...
Once garrison begins, a platoon of NPCs will appear along side your pty/alliance at the outpost. Your pty/alliance will be lvl capped at 20.
NOTE: Because of level cap at 20; make sure your pty/alliance has the appropriate gear; moreover, make sure ppl have the garrison item to turn in also lol.... Because we schedule the event before hand, we ensure the appropriate ppl have their respective garrison item to be able to turn in; the appropriate ppl being the ppl of the nation where we are going to do the garrison for.
Now the battle ensues... 4 waves of mobs....

<Strategy>

We only comprise our pty/alliance of vokers and mages. I highly recommend it!

We have been successful with a 1:2 mage/voker ratio.

In addition to the garrison item and the lvl 20 gear, stock up on potions, which can be purchased by the Outpost guard; use a person in your pty/alliance that is from that nation. The potions purchased from the garrison guard are relatively cheaper than purchasing the item from a store/guild/ah. Furthermore, make certain that players have their respective job-enhancing foods.

Designate before the garrison begins which mages will heal pty and which ones will heal the NPCs. The vokers duties will be to pull the Mobs from the NPCs. One more key role will need to be filled...
The Kite! The "Kite" is the person who pulls a garrison mob away from battle as to keep the NPCs and pty/alliance for terminating it. The reasoning why you would want to keep a mob alive is b/c when all the mobs are killed in a wave then the next wave will immediately follow.
You don't need this to occur b/c the mages will need some time to heal the pty/alliance and NPCs.
Now recall, the mages were initially designated to heal specific groups during this event before hand; well while awaiting the next wave, have the mages suspend that initial understanding; have them spam cures to everyone (pty/alliance and NPCs) so that everyone can heal quickly.
Now back to the "Kite"...
In our garrison events, we use a NIN/WAR coupled with a BLM/WHM as our kite. The initial position prior to starting the garrison and each wave is crucial for this 2-person kiting crew; the reason why is b/c u don't need 'em too close to the NPCs and pty/alliance just to have the Kiters' mob attacked by the others. The NIN/WAR and BLM/WHM need to position themselves near the garrison mobs' spawn location.
The NIN/WAR will voke one and begin running away from oupost location; the BLM/WHM needs to communicate to the NIN/WAR if the mob voke was successful or not; the NIN/WAR and BLM/WHM will finally find a place to stop and then the BLM/WHM will sleep the mob. The mob will eventually awaken and the NIN/WAR will need to voke again so the BLM/WHM may be able to sleep it again (it is imperative the NIN/WAR has Utsusemi up b/c these mobs hit for a lot lol). Once the pty has pawned the wave and healed the pty/alliance and NPCs, have 'em let the kiters know when they are ready. Once ready, bring the mob back to the outpost and you will witness an L.A.P.D. beatdown.... then repeat this process for the following waves.

Then your finished. Congrats.

Be prepared... ppl may and usually do die from this event; moreover, if you do die, you will lose experience points on the job you are playing with. For those ppl, we compensate with the dragon cronicles (Dragon cronicles reward the person who activates this item with a non-specified amount of experience points not to exceed 999 experience points).
Also we have it in our garrison meets, where as the person who turns in the garrison item has first choice on which garrison armor he/she wants. As for the other armor pieces, we have everyone lot on 'em one-by-one; for the mannequin parts we let them fall to whom they may fall to.
NOTE: make sure you have inventory space to receive items awarded by mobs/garrison guard.

Good luck, and enjoy! ^^

CORRECTION: when i referred to the garrison guard for purchasing potions, i meant the trader next to the guard at the outpost location. sorry for the confusion.

I'm going to add... for the NIN/WAR & BLM/WHM kiting system to work, your garrison pty must have a lot of ppl; the reasoning is b/c if u show up there with a pty of only 6 ppl, this will compromise your pty's ability in successfully completing the garrison. Moreover, although the game adjusts the number of NPCs and garrison mobs, i believe it will be extremely difficult to stay alive let alone succeed. So if you use the NIN/WAR & BLM/WHM kiting system have no less than 15 member alliance. Other kiting systems are effective; for instance, you can have a RNG kite using sleep bolts; my ls hasn't had success with it but if you want an alternative... here it is. The RNG or solo BLM may be advantageous for your particular set up if you are limited on ppl participating in this event.

# Aug 15 2004 at 10:50 PM Rating: Default
easy way to beat garrison:
u need: 2 blms with lots of yagudo drinks and a full alliance
at the start of each wave have to 2 blms pull a quadav away from the fighting and keep it slept
witch allows everyone to heal after the others are defeated once the NPCs are healed and everyone is buffed and healed and the mages have their MP have the 2 blms bring the quadava back over to finish it and start the next wave

TADA easy win, hope this helps ^^

well that doesnt really work all that well... a better way is to get a thief or any job really other than mages, to pull 1 quadav or any other monster from any garrison away from the battle and run around the map while the rest of the members fight, eventually you can rest up and heal the npcs after you kill all the other monsters and then bring back the 1 quadav/orc/whatever which comes back with the thief and you kill it and wait for next wave by resting and healing or whatever... its better this way, always worked for me ive never lost a garrison doing that... hope this helps lol

Simple, Fail-Safe Garrison Strategy

Members: 18
Individual Party Makeup: 2 white mages, 2 Provokers, 2 Misc. (not black mage!!!!)

Battle Strategy:
Have your provokers follow the NPCs around as they engage quadav. Once the NPCs have engaged an enemy, provokers must provoke that enemy. Your provoker is now taking the damage and the NPCs are not. The end.

And remember kids, if you HP at the outpost, don't respawn during the fight! I did so. The whole alliance died, we couldn't hit the quadavs, they could still hit us. All of us died twice.

Did you still have the lvl cap on after respawning and if not then did you try to talk to the guard again? Wondering if it is anything like the treants that were running around back in Dec i think, you had to talk to the moogle after dying to get the lvl cap back?

Just a quick question. If you set your homepoint at the outpost and you die during the fight can you respawn right there and get right back into the fight? Just wondering if a Ninja's 2-hour will be of any use here?

We did this twice with a 2 party alliance of 12 total with nothing but tanks and healers. The first time only one person died but we didnt keep the recruits alive so we lost. The second time 7 people died but the recruits stayed alive so we one. After the first one we learned to cure the recruits more. In between waves white mages used benediction. We agreed that whoever uses their engraving gets first shot at the three items and the rest lot the items. We were gonna get all lot ofter everyone was raised but the items randomly dropped to people before we were all raised. I got the boots which I traded to the guy that used the engraving. We did /random and I got 73 :(. Want to do this again but with more engravings next time so more people get drops.
Important thing!

First time I tried it, it was with a full alliance... What a disaster!! I wanted to try it again so I went in Palborough mines to find some darksteel engraving.

If you want it to drop fast, go there on darksday, it will be a lot faster! It dropped with a Pal key on the first copper Quadav we killed!

I went to the outpost with a really good pt of 6, trying to trade the darksteel engraving and it endend with nothing because I`m from San d'Oria.

Be sure to be from Bastok or the I.M. won`t take the darksteel engraving and you can`t trade this item with someone else. Then if you`re not from Bastok this item is useless. We went back to the mines to get another darksteel engraving, we got it. We`ll try it again on saturday!

We tried it and all the recuits have been killed on the 3rd wave... 2 of us died, (me and the BLM if I remember well) and at last there were only 2 Quadav left. 1 was about to die and the other had half of hp. It was so close to success!!!

The pt:
MNK/WAR
PLD/WAR
BLM/WHM
WHM/BLM
WHM/BLM
DRG/WAR ??(I`m not sure of that)

Sorry if my english is not perfect, I speak french, I`m trying to do my best!

pld/war

Do I need another tank or damage dealer?

k...here it goes. tried this the other day n learned a few valuable lessons. 1) if you go to do this with people you dont know and its their first time doing this.....it doesnt matter how many times u explain to them what to do...when the battle comes they freak out and dont follow orders. 2) recruits that wear t-shirts are hard to keep alive!!! give them some armor for cryin out loud. synopsis: so after an hour of gathering and explaining and directing we finally get all our meat mithkabobs n milks in us and trade the stupid thing. first wave=chaos....but its easily overcome and we kill the 3 quads with ease. i can tell people are a lil hectic....so i say to stay close...kill what i kill....n voke off mages cause i know whats about to hit. BAM! it hit.....and after telling everyone about 3600 times to try n kill one target at a time and to follow n stay close to me i quickly found myself soloing a old quaday as a lvl 20 pld. needless to say....all 12 of us died and people suck at following directions.

anyone try this with a group of 6 advanced jobs? i think thats whats gonna happen on my next attempt....less chaos...less enemies....and i hope a better chance at success....if this makes any type of sense let me know. All in all....a fun first attempt....i leveled down to 19 and didnt get any armor....maybe next time :)

k....round two today. here to fill in some blanks. tried the idea of having a pty instead of alliance for less confusion....it worked. less quaday to kill. heres a couple musts. must kill the same target....must use curaga at end of second wave....MUST MUST MUST keep one healer on recruits. if ur recruits die....everything dissappears. we got to the third wave....everyone had full health and were kickin butt....then everything just stopped. figure it was cause the recruits died. keep atleast a rdm on them healing or else u get squat. i went with wht/pld/blm/mnk/war/rdm---worked to perfection except that whole recruits nonsense. that treasure will be mine!

What about sleep bolts? If a WAR used a crossbow with Sleep Bolts or a BLM with used Sleep spell to sleep 2 Quads while the other was killed by the party, would that work? Worth a shot at least.
RE: drk steel quest
# Jun 02 2004 at 10:59 PM Rating: Decent
problem with sleep is simple..... u have an army of npc recruits that dont follow any direction. just kill what the see. when they hit the quads no more sleep :(

My Linkshell and I have tried this Garrison twice, so here are my expiriences of it.

GENERAL

* Trade the Darksteel Engraving to the Iron Musketeer at the North Gustaberg outpost, and he will tell you that it details and Quadav attack in North Gustaberg.
* After the speech, your alliance will recieve a level cap of 20 (you only need one Darksteel Engraving per Alliance, similar to BCNM battles.
* You will be attacked by 3 (three) waves of Quadavs, and some NPCs named Recruit will arrive to help you fight the Quadavs.
* The recruits fight the Quadavs as well, and can be healed by PCs. The more recruits that survive, the better the loot at the end is.
* Between each wave, you will get about 10-20 seconds respite before the next wave spawns almost right on top of you.
* I have heard (but not yet conformed) that a NM called something like Quadav Commander accompanies the 3rd wave.
* Also, the number of Quadavs in the waves is dependant on the number of people in your alliance. Therefore, taking a full alliance won't make the Garrison any easier.

FIRST BATTLE:

Hume WHM20/BLM8
Hume DRG20/RDM10
Hume MNK20/WAR10

Slaughterred at the second wave. First wave was easy enough and the WHM kept the Recruits healed. But the WHM's anti-virus kicked her off so she couldn't fire Benediction. No excuses, we simply weren't prepared.

SECOND BATTLE:
Hume WHM20/BLM8
Taru SMN20/BLM10
Hume DRG20/RDM10

We thought that Astral Flow would help us hugely against these, but as soon as the SMN used it, he got battered by the mobs. The WHM fell early because Cure II dragged loads of hate and the DRG just couldn't survive. Again, dropped in the second wave.

CONCLUSION

I think it's not the numbers, but the way you form your party that makes this a success. Because of the number of Quads, you will need probably two Tanks controlling all the aggro. One WHM should be enough to keep the Tanks healed, but RDMs and WHM/RDM subs will help. I think adding another WHM would just mean more mobs, which is fine if you have the damage dealers to tackle them. Obviously, for the rest, you'd want big damage dealers. BLMs are good, but hate control is very important and they can draw the hate from the tanks.

The ideal party I'd like to take would be 1x WHM, 2x WAR/PLD (or any class with a WAR sub for Provoke) and 2-4x big damage dealers (1x BLM, then fill up with DRK/MNK/PLD/RNG/etc).

Please note, these are only my opinions based on my expiriences so far. They may be inaccurate and I may be wrong about certain things.

Any further information will be welcome ^^

Oh, and the server I wa on was Siren.

This is a new quest that has been going on since the Ballista update.

The prizes are pieces of the "Garrison" Armor. It can come very handy for most jobs because of the bonuses to the skills.

I am interested particularly on the ones that give CHAR +1 since I have a lvl 22 bard.

So far my experience on the quest is that the more people in the party/alliance, the more enemies appear and so you need to be organized (that's the key). We have tried it twice so far but no succes with a full party preparing with juices and meat.

Friends that have succeded say that for this quest you MUST have a full alliance, and that you need to coordinate between melee and casters for advanced efficency.

This is a nice quest, and it is way fun since the other people around the outpost (usually low levels) can see the massacre, but not interact with it. The pieces of armor should be pretty expensive at the AH so either for the gil or the fun, I recommend trying it.

Very important to remember: If you die, you DO lose the xp. So if you are caped to 20 from your lvl 60 job then you will lose A LOT of xp. Keep that in mind... :)

Ok I just died trying this so let me fill in a few blanks. It was only me and one friend so you can definetly have at least a small group. After you give the darksteel engraving to the guard at the north gustaberg outpost he says that there are some new recruits that are coming that are very valuable and lvl caps you at 20. Then 2 old quadavs spawn behind you fighting two npc recruits. I'm assuming that you have to keep them alive and win. we had a 43whm with us not in the group and she couldn't cure us unless she was capped at 20 too so no help from the outside. Gonna try and get the engraving and come back more prepared. If anyone does this succesfully please post what the prize is.

It's for doing the Garrison-thing at the Gustaberg Outpost.

My friend got it and traded it to the outpost.
He was then capped at lvl 20 and 2 Old Quadavs spawned.
He ran since he wasn't prepared for it.

I dunno if u can do this with a group or if you must solo, or what ther reqward is if you beat them.
