Coolest hat ever! Got mine on 7/1/06 in dynam Sandy.
I only carry this and ToA Turban now for brd, crown went into storage and errant hat sold on AH.

Macro'd in for finale and elegy, yay for (hopefully) less resists(resists? what are those?)!

And as for the neck piece argument going on here; wind torque > star torque if you need to do end-game gods or whatever, dynam I'd say too.
Star neck is like your bard badge, you wear it, you love it, you put it in storage with your AF1 and opo crown.

I currently have this head gear and considered ti the best End game head gear for Bard, until recently. Then I saw the Patroclus's Helm (Dropped for Biast) http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=9456

This has to be the best end game head gear for Bard.

No way. Yes the -5 Enmity is nice. And Haste+2% is allright. You can easily get haste from JSE no problem. And almost if not ALL the afv2 gives you - Enmity.
In my opinion, this is nothing good for BRD except for solo (maybe).

Well personally i have Star necklace, Wind torque, and String torque. All individually macroed in to the songs i use.

I use opo opo crown when i am in a normal party and /WHM. {Which mind you isnt very often}. The HP + MP combo is very nice amd the CHR i get from it is useful since i dont ***** MP gear for my bard.

When I am /NIN which i usually am, for the types of parties im in I use the Afv2 hat and Tuna Sushi. The -Enmity is divine. And the singing skill is very nice. The CHR is fine for it too.

I mainly use my Sha'ir Manteel for everything. But for my de-buffs i macro in using Minstrel's coat which adds even more skill to everything.

I dont recommend picking favorites since they are both indeed more useful than one another on different ingame occassions.

I would say before making an estimate on which is better, get all the appropriate neckpieces/headpieces first then try them yourself.

They are both high class headpieces for BRD. IMO.

Why you would choose this over Crown

First off, the day i take advice from a guy named "special ed" is the day i quit bard, clearly they're retarded enough to begin with, not to mention after that absolutley obnoxious post. Clearly special Ed, you are a CHR bard, as can be told by how you would choose Star Necklace over torqe, which is a stupid claim to make considering how many tests have been done of CHR vs Skill. This shows that either a) you haven't taken time to either check for yourself why wind/string skill is better than CHR on a one to one ratio or b) you're just too poor to afford it and thus complain about others around you.

Now im not gonna lie to you, for xp, sky hunts, stuff like that, crown is the way to go. But when it comes to Kirin, Faffy, other big HNM's, this head piece and Tavnazia Tacos are the way i like to go. First off SpecialEd, and pay attention to this cuz im not sure if you understand it, this combination gives me NINE(9) CHR. On top of that it gives 6 Vit, 4 AGI/DEX 20HP/MP and 150def, Now you tossed out a lot of other numbers out there, like int, mnd, str, hmm... last time i gave a **** about my Intelegence when i went up against Kirin... yeah, i think i proved my point. As far as the hat goes, if you really dont think that stuff like -enimity and def keeps your *** alive than you really do deserve your title of special ed.

So my totals for Bard Roundlet compared to Opo Crown. +169 def, -17hp, -30mp, +2 STR, +5 VIT, +3AGI, +3DEX, -1INT, -1MND, +2CHR, -3Enimity, +5 Singing skill. Yeah, i think ive decided, and i like my choice.

I don't remember taking a stand and saying one was greater than the other. I provided the stats and asked you guys which you think would be better.

If you feel that I was implying that the Opo-crown is better maybe that is because you too feel the same way but are too locked into your ways to see differently.

I use the Bard's roundlet as my primary head piece in most situations. Come to think of it the only time I take it off is to put a Genbu's Kabuto on in KRT partys.

I'm not sure why you assumed that I was making an argument for the Opo-crown but you know what they say about assuming...

I see people walking around with a wind torque, I'm sorry but I consider you gimped (rate down). Get a Star Necklace as the 15mp and 3chr are much more usefull. Equip the torque when you actually use a stringed instrument.

It's all situational.

@75 the +skill from my wind torque and Minstrel's coat adds 1 atk per minuet. +3 CHR and 15 mp is going to do absolutely no good in a fast paced KRT party when you're fighting T-VT's and never resting (if the pt works properly). But 2 atk.. lots of DD pay very good money for 2 atk.

Now, in a god fight where landing debuffs is a shot in the dark and you're going to be throwing -na's and backup curing, there might be an agrument for a star necklace.

It's not about being "gimped", it's about bringing the best equipment that you can to the situation at hand.

Sometimes, CHR is most important, sometimes it's skill... occasionally, it's MP. But to say that your setup is the best for everyone everywhere is pure ignorance.
RE: Gimped..
# Apr 17 2006 at 6:27 PM Rating: Decent
I agree situational at best, I have 3 different neck pieces that get macroed on depending on what I'm doing.

I also retract my statement about Wind Torque being gimp. I now know that a BRD has to ballance their gear and to do that they may use that as a neck piece.
"Stats" what really matters
# Oct 10 2005 at 8:56 PM Rating: Default
opo opo is CHR-6 you dint need that for BRD

OK anyways here are the stat differences:
Opo-opo crown with pamamas (since duh, you don't wear the thing without pamamas)
HP +50
MP +50
CHR +7
STR -2
INT +2
MND +1
AGI +1
VIT +1
DEX +1

Bard's roundlet (as compaired to the opo-opo crown)
HP -37
MP -50
CHR -2
STR +2
INT -2
MND -1
AGI -1
VIT -1
DEX -1
Singing Skill +5
Enmity -3

Is 5 singing skill points, +2 STR and -3 enmity worth -37HP, -50MP, -2 CHR, -2 INT, -1 MND, -1 AGI, -1 VIT, and -1 DEX? The decission is yours.

To clear one thing up. CHR is used to stick enfeebles on mobs (elegy, finale, threnody, requiem, lullaby). However, it is singing, wind, and string instrument skills that controll how strong or powerful they are. These skills also control the strength of your buff songs. When's the last time you failed to stick a buff on your party members?

I see people walking around with a wind torque, I'm sorry but I consider you gimped (rate down). Get a Star Necklace as the 15mp and 3chr are much more usefull. Equip the torque when you actually use a stringed instrument.

You're comparison is false.

You are comparing one piece of head armor with food being used as well to only a piece of head armor. Keep in mind that when you wear a Bard's Roundlet, you can still eat food such as Tuna Sushi for additional CHR+5. That would be a total of CHR+10 from the head slot + food combo.

Also, the Enmity- and Singing Skill is very useful as well. BRD gets hate all the time, it's a good thing to have some Enmity-. Singing Skill affects party songs such as Minuet, +5 to this skill would probably equate to about 2 more Attack.

Also, sort of a funny mistake you made in your post. You say to equip a Wind Torque when using a Stringed Instrument... Uhm... No. I would say the Wind Torque is better than the Star Necklace. 15 more MP is hardly useful, that's not even enough for a cure. CHR is so easy to get in higher quantities from other equipment slots that you can afford to use the Neck slot for a different stat besides CHR. Wind Instrument skill is hard to get in other slots, so you should take the opportunity to get any Wind Instrument skill as you can.

I meant string in the post, sorry typo.

I'll say to you the same thing I said to the BRD from Unicorn. I did not imply anywhere in that post that one was better than the other, I simply listed the stats for everyone to see the differnec and make the decision for themselves. I even mentioned that the Opo-crown was while using food.

I didn't want to look up and list every possible food combination you could use with the Bard's roundlet. With the Opo-crown there is only one logical food choice.

Also, a problem with your post: +6.33 skill (I believe) = +1 att, not +5 skill = +2 att

I'll try and post my gear set up in the "Your Characters..." thing so you guys can see what I actually wear.

There are 2 kinds of BRDs, CHR brd, and MP brd, this is better for the CHR brd (which i am), and opo crown+pamama is better for MP brd, since it gives 50mp. So, depends what kind of BRD you are.
RE: Well...
# Mar 02 2005 at 5:11 PM Rating: Decent
Well the opo-crown gives +7 CHR along with 50mp and 50hp with pamamas, the singing skill on the Roundlet is nice though and the -enmity is real nice for HNMs etc. Still keeping both MP-gear and CHR-gear is nice. With the Roundlet you can eat Caviar and get +3 more CHR.

This is my end-game Head Armor, its amazing and it looks soooooo cool on a Taru. The stats are great for my BRD and I love it, only regret is with this and the Choral Cuffs I dont get the whole Shekih-Sha'ir Gear.

I'd imagine that instead of eating Pamama with the Opo-opo for a total of +7 CHR you could wear this and toss back some Flint Caviar for a +9 CHR.

now to get to lvl 72 and find this in Dynamis...

If you ask me, this is a hell of a lot better than the Opo Opo Crown. You sacrifice a measely 2 CHR for an invaluable +5 singing skill (as well as some nice +hp and -enmity, just to sweeten the deal). And you don't have to eat any damn fruit to make the thing work.

Well, the crown/pamamas give +50HP/MP, so you're not exactly gaining HP, but it's kinda hard to tell which would be better-- personally, I'm very fond of Singing Skill. ^_^;
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 05 2005 at 3:50 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You're fond of Singing because you're fu[/b]cking retarted. This is only good for its -Enmity and because it opens up more food options.

Whoa... um why is someone f**king retarded for disagreeing with you?

I admit losing the 50 HP 50 MP off the Opo crown kinda sucks, but with Caviar you can actually get MORE CHR off this headpiece. All depends on how you want to play your job... either headpiece is awesome and better than most jobs get for stat boosting.
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 05 2004 at 11:52 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yeah, 'cept singing skill = poopie.
