Anyone know which chip and cluster to which strange appartus you get this awesome axe from?

I use this great axe for tanking as a war/nin. The only equipable item (non expendable) that beats the reliable haste on the RC is mnk black blet. (shinobi earring is hp based latent)

This great axe beats out byako's hadate, speed belt, unicorn boots, dusk gloves, panther mask, blitz ring ect.. by a large margin.

Put some MP merits on and hack away (earrings will work to if you can't merit mp yet).

The Latent consumes 3mp/tick (exactly the same as rdm's refresh will replenish) so for big battles (HNM) bring along some ethers/yag juice if you if you get close to consuming all your mp.

This Great Axe is one step on the path to becoming a tanking monster, it's nice to use steel cylone while tanking :)

This axe drains 3 mp per tick when drawn, not 4 mp. Get refresh from a RDM to counter it, and you'll have the latents active for entire fights.

I tried this as WAR main, inside of my own nation's control. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Either way, it looks pretty badass.

I can use those two earrings that give MP+10 and just have rdm refresh the warrior (me) XD

If only the latent effect was a normal effect, and that'd be one bad *** high level axe.
It's best for WAR
# May 18 2005 at 9:51 AM Rating: Decent
The reason it's best for war is the end game tanking^^
I've been tanking vey often in 4rng war/nin(me) and brd party. 9% + 6% from the belt and 5% haste from Byakko's heidate would make it total of 20% 8 sec less of delay from Utsusemi: Ni and about 5~6 less delay from Utsusemi: Ichi + weapon delay would be -100=404 If you have 3 rng war/nin brd and whm or rdm, you can get a haste spell from either one of the mages and have Grand Total of 40% Haste. 300 Delay on weapon(just a bit more then regular one hand axe), and Utsusemi almost half of it's delay you could tank gods^^
Edit: Use Kirin's Osode for 30MP and maybe some other mp gear if you like.

WAR/MNK with Yag Drinks. Why not? Rangers spend tons of cash leveling.

And some randome piece of equipment that adds 3 MP.

Use for Bard

Bought this and did some testing with it. 250K on Kujata, but many of the buyers sell it back, so it seems to be more of a play toy than anything that you would use.

It drains 3MP/tick, not 4 as stated above, so double ballad negates the effect, but keeps it active. Latent is ONLY active while engaged, so if you use it cheese melee Bard style where you sleep the mob, unlock and turn around to heal, the weapon will still drain MP.

Once MP is drained, latent effect goes away. I have WAR sub to 32, and with that on, I'm able to check my Great Axe skill under my combat skills. The axe acts the same either way though, with or without WAR or DRK subbed. My G-Axe skill is ~100, so it's not at all useful for farming.

Fun things to try with it though is to have MP for latent effect to kick in and they use double March :) You can hack away at a pretty fierce pace with the two songs + latent effect on. Still get the benefits of WAR sub though, double attack and berserk making it all that much better. It still falls far below a capped sword or dagger skill.

Like I said, great fun to play with and even an eye catcher when idling in Jueno, but not so much a useful item. You'll be sure to draw grand laughter while on a LS outing when, "Who the hell just lit up Sturmwind? We don't have a WAR here???" LS mates really enjoyed that one. :)

Hmm... just a thought, but that haste+9% could be very beneficial for a brd. true we cant wield it and expect do do anything more then miss. but Haste+9% is alot, and could speed up song casting by a ton.

That is a pretty neat idea ^^
Main problem is, I think the biggest problem is, there's a shield BRD can use that gives 1CHR, as well as a couple knives that give additional CHR as well (or, if you're old fashioned, Monster Signa).

http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=5364
Elegant Shield, 1CHR
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=4413
Kard, 5CHR

Monster Signa's an unmatched 8CHR...

Just think those may be much more valueable, and such..still neat idea though! ^^

You know you only need Chr for when you do things against monsters, not buffs, right?
BLM? LOL

hmmmm i wonder why they let blm's use this i mean come on its a friggin Great Axe
RE: BLM? LOL
# May 26 2005 at 1:51 PM Rating: Decent
Since blm cant have great axe skill it might only do dmg up until lvl 10 mobs in witch time you cant even hit any more.

This thing is only worth like 100k on Leviathan. On top of that, the only job that would remotely benefit from this is DRK, since they actually have MP. Being able to wield it, and being able to use it, are two very different things. It's similar to all the BLMs with scythes. Sure, they can wield it, but it's useless for anything but farming (F skill rating or so). Don't be fooled into overpaying for this.

It's actually a good choice if you don't have the berserker's axe(Or two...*******) because after the 1.5m berserker's axe it has the highest damage until 71.

That and it looks awesome.

RE: axe
# Jan 13 2006 at 10:07 PM Rating: Decent
I bought it today, 100k, to test it out (75BRD).
What I expected was for it to start draining my MP once I equipped it. 9%haste would be great for my songs, but yeah, latent didnt kick in until I actually hit a mob with it equipped.

Time spend dis/engaging during battles isnt quite worth it for me.

hope this helps
(resold it same day, lower price ^^)
mp drain
# Aug 26 2004 at 1:55 PM Rating: Default
these are just decorative items for the most part, mages buy them just to look cool with a GA on their back etc

the only real use for an mp drain weapon is for jobs that dont use mp but have mp because of gear

the latent is mp drain, which is consistent with previous ff games where rune weapons would be more powerful but would use up your mp

Just thought I'd add some confirmation on the latent effect activation of rune weapons (I'm assuming is works for all.)

I bought a Rune Sword last night, and when it's drawn, it drains 4 mp/ 3 seconds, upping it's damage to 43 and adding +5 DEX.

Hope this helps! As for how they work in Dynamis, I'd assume the same, but I have yet to try it out. Maybe it turns into a refresh effect their when drawn. =p
#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 31 2004 at 8:28 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'm almost positive that all latent effects of Rune weapons are activated when in Dynamis only and only when holding the weapon. I could be wrong but this is what my level 75 WHM/BLM friend told me on Quetzecoatl.
latent rah rah rah.
# Jun 17 2004 at 9:47 AM Rating: Default
latent effect is active whenver you draw your weapon and while you still have MP to be sucked up by the weapon.

btw if anyone figures out how to get RuneSword, I would be quite grateful. :p
Possible

I bought a Rune Arrow so that a LS member could test it out. He didn't get MP up, but instead MP down, and it only kicked in when his weapon was drawn. So possibly the refresh only works when in Dynamis...?

This is the only Rune item on allakhazam right now, so I'm posting here.

i was the first to accquire this on the phoenix server (at least first at the AH). i sold it for one million. shortly after, i was told that this axe ADDS the skill slot when equipped. you dont start with the ability to hold great axes, or level skill. however, when this equipped, you have great axe added to your listing.

plus, if a level 70 blm were to hold this as his main weapon, then a rune bow as his ranged, and a rune arrow as his ammo... he would get a total of 9mp/3sec or 3mp/1sec refresh. thats pretty nice.

RE: still good
# Jun 05 2004 at 12:46 PM Rating: Decent
i think you sold it for way less then its actual worth. but that is just speculation because i dont know how you get this item or how difficult it is. care to enlighten the rest of us?

Has it been proven/disproven that it adds the skill? And, if so, at what skill ranking?
sub rdm
# Jun 02 2004 at 7:06 PM Rating: Decent
im not positively sure, but subbing rdm with blm main will let you gain the skill points, i think rdm can wield G. axes, but dont quote me on that because ive never played rdm. regardless, this axe is awesome for a mage hands down.

Ok first the Latent Effects are triggered when the wielder's life total get below a certain point. And 2 no it is not all that great that the extra classes can use it. Think at this levle barring the fact that the person may have leveled other jobs what do you think their skill level will be with Great Axe? Not anywhere near it would be and most people wouldnt take the time to lvl it anyways.

wont take you more than two days to lvl this at that lvl

you can't level a skill your job has no innate ability in.

as WHM/BLM no matter how much i do Bio or Drain i don't get one point of skillup.

a BRD/WHM, BLM/WHM, SMN/WHM has 0 Greataxe skill unless they sub something that has Greataxe skill.

I'd rather have the Rune Staff, but if I got the Rune Chopper as a BLM or SMN, I would use it.

Know why? Because all the Rune gear adds 4 MP/3 sec regeneration, with the exception of the rune arrow, which adds 1MP/3 sec regeneration.

It's all retreived from the Strange Apparatus machines located around Vana'diel, trade a coloured chip of the correct element and an infinity core to them, and you have a chance of getting one.

If anyone sees a SMN/BLM/BRD wielding this, please take a screenshot. I'm sure I'm not the only one that would like to see that.
