If you played FFX, they had this sort of thing on both Tidus and Auron, at least their ultimate weapons. So, is this like Tidus(and cloud from FFVII's ultima weapon) where your dmg goes down with higher HP(direct proportion), or is it like auron(damage goes up with lower hp, inverse proportion)?
Why can't WARs use this weapon ? That's crap. I'm WAR/NIN , and although I have 1H Axe capped just because it's useful sometimes, I use swords more often. Recently I've used a Sword/Axe combo, and it's working out nicely.
I would have loved to bust my *** getting Excalibur AND the Ultimate Axe(Whatever it's named) . That would make everyone I know pee their pants.

note: for those wondering why you can't see rightbetweentheeyes's posts is because almost all of them have been rated lower than 1.5 out of 5, and thus, they are deemed "awful." most likely your filter is leaving out all the posts that are "awful," so what you have to do is go to (post) forum preferences, which are at the top of the page, select "never filter" instead of "default filter," highlight "save," then click change. NOW you'll be able to see his idiocy.
p.s. i talk too much about this guy so i'll talk about something else. do you think anyone in america actually has this yet? i've seen it twice now, but the two people who had it were both japanese and didn't speak a word of english.
(Note: Nights of the Round, for those who never played, is from FF7. It was the most beautiful move you could ever recieve. It involved 8 (Maybe less) knights running at the enemy and attacking, doing lots of damage with each hit.)
It involved 13 knights, see how it oddly fits in with the thirteen knights of the round table?
Anyone else a little sad this isn't called the Masamune? I mean... this IS made by Square Enix, is it not?

Remeber FFIX that guy in the SIlver armor i think thats why they named it this because he had the same weapon Excalibur and Excalibur II , Also very hard to get
If anything is going to be called "Masamune", it will be a Great Katana. That's really more relevant as historically it has been a Ninja weapon (Edge had it, it was a katana when Sephiroth had it). The non-comformist is the Masamune in Chrono Trigger, but that's not a Final Fantasy. The ultimate sword has always been the Excalibur (I'm surprised they didn't call the Relic sword "Excalipur").
Going by that theory the single-handed ninja katana is likely to be the Murasame.
Actually, historically speaking, Masamune was not a sword within itself. Masamune was a swordsmith, whose main competition lied within a fellow smith by the name of Muramasa. Masamune was well known for his superior steel-folding techniques, and it was rumored that his blades could cut through steel plated armor. Muramasa's blades were also very well known and used thoroughly by the top Shogun and Samurai of the land. However, his blades were folded so, that it was believed they were unbalanced, leaving a messier cut and drawing more blood--therefore his blades mythologically speaking were meant for mass bloodshed. Masamune's blades were considered perfecttly balanced, and mythologically speaking were not only meant for attacking, but for parrying and defending. Point in case, Masamune and his school smithed and forged a wide variety of blades, from Katanas all the way down to fish-gutting kitchen knives. P.S. If I'm wrong about muramasa, then it's Murasame, but one of them is the opposing smith, the other is Masamune's descendant.
Actually, the Excalibur hasn't always been the ultimate sword. There are a few "swords" that have almost always been better than the Excalibur: The Ragnarok has been better on a few different occasions, but they turned that into a 2-handed sword for this game, the Illumina and Atma Weapon from FF6 were better (both 1 handed swords). FF4 had the Crystal Sword(Ragnarok). I think the only time the Excalibur has ever really been the best sword was the Excalibur II from FF9. In FF 1 and 2, the Masamune was actually in the sword category whereas the Katana was in the knife category, so I don't think there are any cases other than FF9 where the Excalibur was the best sword.
Actually, in FF4 you upgraded the Crystal Sword to Excalibur with the Adamant Ore you got from Mr. Small Person, who gave it to you for a Rat Tail from the Land of Summon Monsters.
In Final Fantasy 2/4 for Super Nintendo/Super Famicom, the Crystal Sword is not upgraded into Excalibur. The Crystal Sword is what it is, and is retrieved from fighting that Wyrm on the third sub level of the Lunar Palace. Excalibur is crafted separately, well before you even achieve the crystal sword, in the underworld by Col the blacksmith. You have to give him the rat's tail and a piece of adaman ore. Later on, give him a pink puff and some more adaman ore, and he'll craft you Adamantium Armor, the stronges in the game.

LOL what a freakin' liar. Also, the gear on your ficticious DRK, is, for the most part, ******. You have 2 earrings that add enmity. LOL. And your two highest stat boosts are INT and MND? LOL. No one at level 75 could be that stupid. I bet you haven't even unlocked DRK yet. Actually, I bet you've quit the game by now. I sure hope so.
Not only that, but s/he clearly hasn't unlocked ninja... else s/he would realize that when you dual wield two damage numbers appear on screen, not one combined figure.
damn it, stop spreading false information like this!!! first you completely made up that you were a lvl 75 DRK with full crimson armor and the apocalypse, then you claimed "your friend" was a 75 RDM / 37 NIN and he somehow had TWO master caster poles, and now your saying that your "other friend" is a lvl 75 PLD who can magically wield two Rare/Ex swords. and besides, that's NOT what damage proportionate to current HP means, it even says so on this page. try scrolling down the entire page before you lie next time.
i'd find this more beliveable if it was a blind mute monkey saying it. "Hellbeacon" has been proved to be a lvl 18 or so mnk on his server, he lies almost constantly about **** he has no idea about. weilding 2 rare/ex swords.... i should slap you very very hard. And your other posts... 2 master casters poles.... man do us all a favor and STFU, some people read these boards who could actually be drawn in by your *********
I wonder if we could report him to an Admin like reporting morons to GM's......
OMG!!!!!! That sword's for redmages too?! God I have got to have that sword!! Thankfully you don't have to go through an insane mission to get it (go to the floating tower, grab a piece of Adaman then take it all the way back to a dwarf in the middle of nowhere)... =)

Posted:Jun 14 2004 at 11:21 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The sword is obtained off mob in Dynamis. Until you've charged it 4 times it's a pretty crappy weapon in fact. After 3rd charge you'll be able to use the ws "Knights of the Round" whevever you have TP just like any other ws, but only in Dynamis. You charge the weapon by killing 1000 Easy Prey mobs with it. Each time you do that you will raise it one form up from it's base form. The base form is a 1 Dmg 999 Delay weapon designed to drive you mad. All forms of the weapon are only equipable by lv75 rdm or pld.
I'm afraid that your information is partially incorrect. You don't "charge" up the weapon by killing 1000 mobs. You have to upgrade it.
You take the relic sword to Switchstix in Castle Zvahl Bailey's. To upgrade the Relic Sword to its 2nd stage, the Glyptic Sword, you have to give him 1x Koh-I-Noor, 1x Orichalcum chain, and 1x Cermet chunk with the sword. There is also a commission for the upgrade, it's one of the old forms of currency dropped in Dynamis.
To get the second stage upgrade, the Dynamis Sword, you have to take the Glyptic sword plus 1x Bronze Sword, 1x Mythril Sword, and 1x Wing Sword and 14x 100 Byne Bills, again, old Vanadiel currency dropped in Dynamis
To get the third stage upgrade, you have to trade in the Dynamis Sword along with the Attestation of Glory.
To get Excalibur, you take Caliburn to a pond in Dragon's Aery along with a Holy Fragment.
The details aren't exactly known as I ripped this straight from FFXI MYSTERYTOUR
this picture is of all the relic weapons in their final form. excalibur is the sword on the left (right between the axe and the longsword). it's a shame that the relic bow, gun, and katana are missing...
lol it's cool. i think that you think that mandau (the thing on the left of excalibur) is a sword too, and that's probably why you think there are two swords. it's actually the final relic dagger, for RDMs, BRDs, and THFs. so, the order going from left to right on the top row of the page is as follows:
Ragnarok (the sword next to excalibur) is a 2 handed sword, according to the kanji next to it. That means that it's the final form of the relic g. sword.
yes..it exists: this is one of the " Relic " weapons..means: u can only use them when u r in dynmais. so u can only use this WS in dynamis. all kinds of weapons have one relic weapon. u have to " smith " them ureself.
You can use the WS anytime when you have Exalibur but when you have the 4th form of the relic sword (Caliburn) you can only use it in dynamis. The other 2 forms give you other effects in dynamis. (2nd ltg +7)(3rd ltg+9) http://mysterytour.web.infoseek.co.jp/ffxi/us/equip/47relic.htm <--Heres where i heard about the relic weapons
I saw a lvl 75 PLD use this weapon skill "KNights of the Round" it was badass!! For those who wants a description of what it's like then I'll try:
First the PLD swings and under-handed uppercut with the sword until the sword is vertical above the PLD's head and with the momentum of the swing the PLD goes up into the air then spins 180 degrees and stabs the sword down into the mob on the way down. So it's a two-hit weapon skill VERY FREAKIN COOL!
Nah, I've seen savage blade bring you up into the air too but not like that, I'm pretty sure what he's saying is true. Also, savage blade has a forward rotation if I I can remember and wasn't a 2 hit, only single.
"additional effect: damage proportionate to current HP"
you cant seem to understand PROPORTIONATE.. in other words look at your HP as the percentage. the weapon can do that much damage extra occasionally additional effect means it kicks in every now and then but its not constant like a rdm en- spells. so if your max hp is 1400 and your current hp is 900 then your hp is at 64% so the sword can do 64% added damage if it kicks in at that time.
Not in all cases, take the ;v51 elemental staves. The discripion for the Earth Staff is 'Additonal effect: Earth Damage' but the earth damage connects 100% of the time. being a lv49 RDM ive never seen a Excalibur execpt once on this afk uber PLD =P
oh and by the way, i submitted this, and they STILL haven't put that it increases your attack by 20 and gives "additional effect: damage proportionate to current HP" (that damage equal to HP thing is one of the coolest things i've ever heard).
I dont think the additional effect is always on, but I could be mistaken. If its anything like the weapons such as Flaming Claymore, Burning Cesti, Plantreaper, etc... its a random thing, Occasionaly turning on. I say this because it could be easily abused with the PLD 2 hour,Invincibilty, as I know peoples hp can reach 1200+. But if it were true, I'd get all the +hp items I could get and start wacking away at something big.
"damage proportionate to current HP" is basically the same thing that Souleater does for a DRK, except the ability that Excalibur gives is constant, not ever 6 min like Souleater, and it doesn't cost HP to do the extra damage. At least, that's the way I would assume the ability to work, correct me if I'm wrong.
i'm not sure. i think that, with every attack, it deals an amount of damage equal to your exact HP at that moment. so let's say you have 1000 HP, i think with this it deals 1000 extra damage with every attack. i also don't know about this, but if it did mean this i think it's TOO good!
People keep saying that it deals damage "equal" to your HP, but nowhere at all does it say anything about dealing damage equal to your current HP, only proportionate to your current HP, which makes much more sense that it would work like Soul Eater as was stated. If it did damage equal to your current HP every swing it would turn paladins into the biggest consistent damage dealers in the game which makes no sense. The Soul Eater reference seems much more likely.
It means the amount of damage the weapon deals is directly connected to the % of HP you have. If you have %100 percent, you deal 100% of the damage rate. IF you have 75%, you deal 75% of the damage rate, and so on. This is quite useful believe it or not, as you would draw less hate the more you get damaged, because you aren't doing as much damage.
This IS a one-handed sword, it's the fully upgraded form of the Relic Sword, you get it by upgrading the Relic Sword.
In addition to the listed stats, it increases your attack by 20.
Graphically, Knights of the Round looks a bunch of white orbs that appear around your character. They then all fly into your character and you do a power slash on them. It's not an insane 30-hit combo summon like in FFVII :P
