I don't see this mentioned here, but I just learned (since I needed 357 points to break it [and I got 57 points in Dynamis tonight]) that you cannot use your weapon and expect to gain points for it in Dynamis. They will not count sadly.
I know the pick of trials says DRK can use it, but i have capped axe skill at lvl on my lvl 75 DRK, skill is at 240, and brutus wont give me the quest. I did the chocobo on the loose quest, cause thats what happened when i talked to him. But i completed it and he still wont give me my pick of trials. Any other DRK's go through this? /cry. I want decimation.
Do you have to have the Pick of Trials equipped for all 300 points at once? What I mean is that if you unequip the pick, do you lose all the points you had accumulated up until you unequipped it?
Yes {WiSeMaNn} you can, but remember 1 thing, you have to finnish both quests to gain them both. And you'll have to "Main-Hand" one or the other to do that skill. But you can have all the Weapon skills if your job can handle that weapon. Also remember, you need atleast {240} in each weaponskill to get each weapon quest. In some jobs you need to level higher to achieve that weapon lv.(Me Warrior) I am doing Axe and Sword, but i need to be a higher lv(now 71) to have the sword skill quest cause I cap at around 232, so I need 2 more lv's to reach 240.
You can only accumulate points toward your latent if you are doing WS associated with that weapon. So you can only do one weapon at a time. Also, as far as I have heard, you can only have one trial weapon quest active at a time. I haven't confirmed that myself. At any rate, since you have to do sword WS to unlock sword, etc., having sapara and pick equipped at the same time will only accrue points toward the weapon in your main hand. The other will remain dead weight in your offhand.
You must have a Axe skill of at least 240 and be at least level 71 to begin this quest. If you're ready to accept the mission, head to Upper Jeuno and speak with Brutus.
He will hand you a key item (Weapon Training Guide) as well as a axe, the Pick of Trials. He asks you to test a new axe for the Teshondo untill the axe is dull, which roughly means you need to remove the latent effect off of it by participating in skillchains and performing weapon skills. The number of SCs and WSs you need to do before the axe is sufficiently blunt goes by a strict point-based system:
Solo-WS: 1 pt.
Start LVL1 SC: 1 pt. Close LVL1 SC: 2 pt.
Start LVL2 SC: 2 pt. Close LVL2 SC: 3 pt.
Start LVL3 SC: 3 pt. Close LVL3 SC: 5 pt.
--------------------- Total Needed: 300 pt. ---------------------
Participate in SCs until you've accumulated enough points for the latent effects on the Pick of Trials to dissappear. (Note: the text on the item description will remain, but the effects will expire)
After the latent effects are off of the Pick of Trials, return to Brutus and trade him the axe. He will hand you yet another key item (Map to the Annals of Truth) and tell you to proceed to the Temple of Uggalepih.
Head to the J-9 entrace from Yhoator Jungle and touch the ??? at G-9. An NM Sapling named Yallery Brown will appear. Defeat him. Once Yallery Brown is dead, check the ??? again to receive yet another key item (Annals of Truth).
Now head back to Upper Jeuno and speak w/ Brutus again. After a short cutscene, you will receive your long-awaited prize: Decimation!
PS: Thanks for adding the quest to th site, now if it only was linked to the Quest>by Type>Weaponskill page. ^^
fyi the quest itself is called: Axe the Competition and is in the Jeuno realm, of course Summary: The Tenshodo wants Brutus's opinion on which axe they should carry in their stores. Brutus has asked you to test one of the axes until its blade has gone dull.
dunno what title you get, havent yet dulled the thing...
To get to him, go in the main entrance, then go left through the door by the Wespes in J-7. Zone out to Yhoator in K-3, go around to the right, and zone back into the temple. The ??? is in G-9 on this map, at the south end of the hall.
Hmmmm here's my question, if I sub Nin then does this have to be in my main weapon slot or does it matter if I have it in secondary? I don't want to equip anything but my Juggernaut in main hand if at all possible. It is my precious ^^
i just reach level 71 yesterday and i got my 'Pick of Trials' Lv.71 AXE from Brutus NPC in upper jeuno chocobo stable. this is the weapon needed to quest for my last learnable weaponskill (Decimation for Axe)
i activated the quest, got the axe, and equipped it. shows up in my quest list for Jeuno.
now, im a warrior so i use lots of weapons, i have Axe 249, GreatAxe 255, Sword 176, GreatSword 201. i qualify to get the Great Axe quest started too, which is supposed to be given from IRON EATER in metalworks... but when i reached him and tried to speak with him, he would not speak to me about the "Axe of Trials" Lv.71 GreatAXE. now this got me wondering why it wouldnt work, i zoned and came back a few times, without any avail.
if anyone has information on acquiring the Weapons of Trials, i would like to know if its possible to start 2 trials at once, since i would like to hold my "Pick of Trials" and "Axe of Trials" together and use them both to do the quests simultaneously
You have to have finished cleansing the pick of trials before you can get another one. If you change your mind you can always go back to brutus and tell him you give up then you can go pick up the axe of trials.
Ok on these weapons latent doesnt mean yellow or red HP for them. This is the weapon you use to obtain your next WS Decimation for axe.
As soon as you equip it you get the latent effects added to your stats. Now you have to use it till the latent is gone, then trade them back to get the next item for the quest.
The thing you need to know on these, once you get to this lvl is the points you get for using WS are all based on the lvl of the chain. To get rid of the latent the quickest is FOR YOU TO END the skillchain with a lvl 3 dark or light chain. Ending a chain gives you 5 points, so ending will get you the 300 points the quickest.
In my case I lead our renkeis in my static so it took almost a full lvl to remove the latent, our DRK did it in about 3 hours since he ends our renkeis like I stated you should.
Now before you think you will go out and just kill easy things to get rid of the latent "nope" it only works on EP mobs and up. At lvl 71 even an EP mob hurts.
The HP (+20) is added whilst you are still gaining points for the final weapon skill, but upon attaining 300 points the latent effect disappears (from your stats, not from the picture of the weapon) and you are able to kill the weapon skill NM, at least this is from what I was told.
i know that a latent effect is an effect that's activated when you get into critical health (yellow, oragne, or red HP). so how does it work when it adds to your hp? for example lets say you have max 100 hp (this is theoretical, of course no one using this would have that little hp). lets say you're hit for 20 damage twice, lowering you to 70 hp which becomes critical (yellow starts at 75%). therefore the latent effect activates, and your hp goes back up to 90. so then you're hit for 20 again, bringing you down to 70. the latent effect activates again, bringing you up 90. it would cycle, effectivly keeping you alive forever. of course this would only happen with weak hitting mobs, and of course it's entirely theoretical, but still...
or am i completely off on how the latent effect works? please clear this up for me. th.
we might want to take into account the level of the weapon. normally, at level 71, you arent going to get hit for 20 damage. and if you have 700+ max HP anyhow, what does an extra 20 when you hit critical really matter?
It's kinda weird, the way I read it, it increases your max HP by 20. So if you get yellow/red, your max HP would go from 100 to 120 (using your theory)... however, this doesn't help you unless the latent effect holds if you get healed back to full.
not sure what the latent effect is for this weapon, but not all latent effects are hp based. some, from what i've read, are activated by having a certain sub job. (i think those new rings have that kind - the ones introduced at the bcnm 20 or 30 or something) sorry, don't know of any other examples of latent effects off the top of my head.
