Never. NPCs sell them in infinite supply for pocket change.

I have taken these and desynthesized them with a lightning crystal. It yielded 1 bronze ingot.

I only have 5 smithing, so the skill is obviously low.

Edit: Weird, just did it again, and got sheep leather... But the explosion looked like and HQ synth...

Edit: Again: I did some experimenting, sheep leather is definately a HQ desynth. So... I stand at

wow, meegodz! These is teh roxxor for me! I hadz my noobcakes grs on my waror and thees made him teh uber on duh worms ootside bastik!

No actually, for real. In my humble opinion, pocket change or not, these don't really have anything beneficial for a new player. They're the same def as standard hand gear. Be it your taru mitts, Hume gloves, what have you. Keep your money and use it on the subligar, harness, and hat only. then grab yourself a job usefull weapon, and head out. It may not look very nice, but it's all you'll need until level 7 or 8 depending on your job. I remember being a new kid on the block, and I know in the beginning gil is hard to come by.

Are you kidding me? Unless you're smithing brass mittens, I don't see a use for them....I get them all the time off of gobs, and just drop them, rather have onions and weaving material take up my inventory.
