WS modifier

For WS modifier look at this site;

http://www.iluvitar.com/sections/ffxi/skill/jpwstranslated.html

So INT is a modifier for Spinning Slash and Ground Strike.

Balan's is better damage than Nagan

Actually, if you look at the damage per second, Balan's Sword beats a regular Nagan. See here for a list of level 70-73 Paladin usable great swords, ranked by base DPS (calculated by damage vs delay.) Since Balan's Sword has +str on it, it would actually rank even higher in real DPS. The +vit on the Nagan is nice, but not that useful given that a paladin using a greatsword is either farming or not tanking at all, 99% of the time.

Especially given how cheap it is, this is a terrific addition for any high level paladin that wants to just do some damage. A Nagan +1 would be better, but good luck getting one of those...

Yep
# Aug 20 2004 at 4:19 AM Rating: Default
Yep this is just for show. This sells for like 90k because it's quite useless for a pld on the other hand Bali's sword sells for a hardcore 1 million gil.
Nagen over this
# Aug 19 2004 at 9:33 PM Rating: Decent
Is it just me or does Nagen completely destroy Balins sword? Why in God's name would a pld use this over Nagen? This sword has one purpose, and that is for it to be used for only the most curageous pld's who actually have the balls to sub drk!

maybe because of how much nagan costs o_O

i know its alot on Kujata, but thats just my server

im sure maybe some people can blow gil at 73 but some people dont like doing that, and some cant
DRK

I highly doubt this sword is going to get any use from many Paladins. Probably just an item for show.

Nice sword, but why does a Paladin need +4 Int?
RE: Balans Sword

Int helps your magic. So the more int. you have the better yor magic. So PLD could heal more HP and do more DMG with their spells.

Actually, INT only helps with offensive spells. MND is what improves healing magic (as well as adding to magical def)
RE: Balans Sword
# Aug 19 2004 at 11:17 PM Rating: Decent
Yeah, and +INT also makes you take less dmg from the spells (not talking about resist, since that's MND)

INT is for black magic, MND is for white magic. The amount of hp cured, damage down from divine spells, and the chance of white magic being resiste, is purely 100% MND 0% INT.

INT does however, directly reduce the damage taken by black magic spells.

I've noticed alot of items don't always have the most tooled bonuses. Many items have stats that aren't always useful to the jobs that use them. Dunno why, thats just the way they make them.

Some stats have little known effects for certain classes. Ie. CHA will help (certain) weaponskills.

Artifact armor is a good indication of this.

SE usually takes good care of items, unlike SOE in Everquest... (one of the reasons I quit EQ. They don't think what an item is supposed to do, they just nerf it afterwards if it's too powerfull or ignore it if it's ill-designed)

STR and INT are the damage modifiers on Spinning Slash, the GSD 225 WS that can chain light. This sword in particular is designed to increase the damage dealt by the Spinning Slash WS. I don't know the modifiers for the other weaponskills, but that's what my DRK friend told me when she was telling me about this sword.
