can the latent be broken in campaign battles,i read afew treads with people claiming the broke it in campaign battles,i also followed threw on some of there other post and they turned out to be either totally wrong on there post or just flat out have no idea, which is all the same.
basicly im just flat out asking, can this sword and any other latent weapons be broken in campaign battles, please only people that have a clue or people that have flat out done it answer this back.
the way it would seem to me sence you dont get any type of battle skill ups in campaign battles the answer would be no you cant break them but idk, just trying to get some true facts here, thanks
can a BLU solo this?
# Oct 08 2008 at 9:31 PM Rating: Decent
what i want to know, with blu having many many skillchains they can solo, is it counted for the latent? im a bit sceptical about this as in order for the sc to even come about for BLU we use spells
I'm working on it!

Smiley: schooled
World: Fairy
Job: PLD
Level: 71
Weapon: Sword
Skill Level: 240+ (251)
Location of choice: West Altepa Desert (while soloing)
Level of mob to engage: Easy Prey or Tougher
Quest: "Old Wounds": Practice your Weapon Skills solo or with a buddy
Client: Curilla (Temple Knight' Quarters, Chateau d'Oraguille)

Smiley: cheese

Weapon Skill resource for beginners: Check this web site for WS & Skill Chains( I got the FFXI player guide when I first bought the game, so I use that for basics)

I read the walk-through of the quest and can imagine the difficulty so I'm in no rush to get 300 points, I'll need an ALLIANCE with a know-how!
Prefer to get the point while XPing so time won't drive me to insanity.Smiley: banghead
WISH ME LUCK & to all you sword bearers out there.
Dynamis WS Pts.
# May 06 2007 at 12:51 AM Rating: Decent
I don't see this mentioned here, but I just learned (since I needed 357 points to break it [and I got 57 points in Dynamis tonight]) that you cannot use your weapon and expect to gain points for it in Dynamis. They will not count towards your goal, sadly.
Is Savage Blade worth the trouble?

So the question is, is savage blade really worth all that time and trouble?
Easy Peasy DRK breaking
# Jul 27 2006 at 3:19 PM Rating: Decent
Went as DRK/sam post update with Absorb-TP and meditate + I had about 7% haste and then the spell.. Was in Sea with a RDM and NIN, didn't take long at all since we did 2x distortion every fight and I solo'd 1 WS every other fight.
Rdm + Sam
# Jul 01 2006 at 11:04 PM Rating: Decent
I went Rdm/Nin for fast tp and i brought a Sam friend of mine. between the 2 of us we did light, sorry i cant say what WS he used, but he used meditate then used 1 WS i used circle blade which made fragmentation then he did another for light. only problem is we only did that ever other SC cause we had to wait on meditate to be ready again. but all in all it didnt take long
Latent

Broke latent in 3 hours and 30 minutes. Me(RDM) and a BLU sc'd, we had a NIN/WAR, RDM/NIN, RDM/NIN(ME), BLU/NIN, BRD/NIN, we both had Haste+Both the marches for faster attack speed, I was maining the sapara and subbing joyeuse. We did Red Lotus Blade > Flat Blade, we got 15 exp per kill, we were all 74+ and we were running around fighting monsters. I got a total of 1.7k of experience. Fun stuff =). I thought breaking the latent would take all day, the only thing I have to worry about now is the fight.

For All My Fellow Red Mages
# Jan 19 2006 at 11:00 AM Rating: Decent
Since we have the luck of not having vorpal blade >,> Us rdms can't get the most points out of 2 man skillchain. I however with unlocking my dissector latent effect know that a 3 man skillchain would definitely benefit us. Only thing you need to do if find someone that you could end with a second level skillchain and another person to end the level 2 skillchain wiht a level 3 SC. You of course being the middle man would get 6 points in total. What I did was I got 2 people with evisceration and one started it and the other ended it which made DARK. There must be other skillchains that will work like this but that you need to find out :P
I also sub my rdm with nin for dual wield and have joyeuse so the TP gain is insane, if you have the luck of having a joyeuse then it would go much faster.

RDM/WAR has Vorpal Blade. I use this combo often with NPC. SC's nice with most of my NPC's G-Katana.
cant RDM do L3 WS?

i may be wrong about this because im just a paladin, but i remember when i was levelling THF and i subbed WAR i could use WS like Red Lotus Blade, which is only for WAR/PLD/DRK. can other jobs just sub PLD for Swift Blade? or at least for Vorpal Blade?
cant RDM do L3 WS?

Swift is PLD main only.

Vorpal can be gotten with right sub (ie WAR DRK)

powering up sword.
# Nov 20 2005 at 9:20 AM Rating: Decent
what i did to power up the sword is just use your npc from the friend quest. make there job attack. give em a great katana. and skill off them. i just subbed warrior and used vorpal blade cause it skill chain off anything your SAM npc WS they use. and its happens in no time. beats running around waiitn of someone to come with you. good thing to do. kill two birds with one stone. level your noc and power up your sword. well i did it and i know it works.

I was just wondering what the best way for rdm to get points for this. I don't think that we can produce a Light or Darkness SC so points are going to be slow. Just wondering what other rdm's have done. Thank you
Doing this as an RDM/NIN in Kuftal.

If you have a Joyeuse, this is the best option. Offhand the Joyeuse for massive TP gain, bring a few friends, and you should be done quickly.

Barring that, sub SAM like I did for my Dagger of Trials. Not quite as good but it gets the job done.
Maybe it would be good
# Jul 11 2005 at 10:24 AM Rating: Decent
If your sam was high enough and u had a friend paladin to tank if needed you could sub sam for tp build up faster.

For those of you who are wondering...the latent IS triggered by NOT havint 300 points...so when you equip your weapon, and your stats DON'T change...the latent has been removed, and you may proceed to turn it in. Took my SAM friend and I about 2 hours in Kuftal Tunnel doing Robber Crabs. We alternated who finished the skillchain to maximize the points.
how to get it
# Oct 30 2004 at 12:29 AM Rating: Decent
You have to be level 71 and have a skill of 240 or higher in sowrd to obtain it. You speak to Curilla in the Chateaux. Head in take a right and go in the door right in front of you.

Actually, obtaining it depends on your job too..

If you're a Paladin, and your Sword skill is at 240 or higher, you can get this quest as early as level 68 (of course, you can't use the sword yet, hehe)

RDM can at level 73

I don't know what level WAR and DRK can begin to quest for it.

You cannot start this quest until you ding 71, no matter what your weapon skill level is. Before that, even if your skill is high enough, you won't receive the quest.

Latent Effect

Eh, you don't want the Latent Effect anyway. This sword is used in the quest to obtain the Savage Blade WS. The Latent Effect is removed when you meet the point criteria required to complete the rest of the quest which is fighting a VERY mean NM Scorpion (Antican Leader).

To Terraforce, you remove the latent effect by getting 100 points (I think). You get one point for ending a lvl 1 skillchain, 2 for ending a lvl 2 skillchain, and 3 for ending a lvl 3 skillchain. There is no message telling you you have met the required points, you have to see in your stats to see if the latent effect is still in effect, which is, in this case, no extra resistance to fire/wind and no HP bonus. I know it goes something like this, but it may be 200 or maybe even 300 points needed to remove the effect. Then I believe you have to fight a NM like the first poster said, after that you get your final Weaponskill!

I think it's somewhere between 200 and 300 points, I can't remember exactly anymore, however, as far as point accruement...

1- The mob you are fighting *must* be EP or higher.

2- a) Using a WS gets you 1point
b) Ending a L1 Renkei gets you 2 points
c) Ending a L2 Renkei gets you 3 points
d) Ending a L3 Renkei gets you 5 points

However, since RDM get uber nerfed, it's not possible for RDM to complete a L3 Renkei (Light or Darkness), so you're stuck only ending with Level 2 Renkeis to complete this at best. Time to get skillup parties/coffer keys ;)

This is how SAMs, PLDs, MNKs, etc., get their Ultimate WS so quickly, is simply because they can preform a Level 3 Renkei, so all they need is one person capable of starting the renkei, and they finish it. Since L3 renkeis are typically destructive in terms of power (Light vs. Undead = HUGE Damage), not even going in the MB'ing of it, things die fast...
