I have traded 6 infinity cores and blue chips and the only thing runish it gave me was the rune bangles, I would love to get ahold of this bow for my level 75 smn. That way i can just summone carby and let the pld feel like a man and tank the mobs instead of using garuda and ... yeah well you know, I guess you can say its a hobby. But im now broke because the chips are 21 k a pop.

just a though

To activate the latents on Rune weapons you have to be /attack on. While you are engaged to the mob the latent will drain a few hp or mp per tick.

I'm a 75Rdm, and I bought one today to use on the ASA missions, and while skilling up, I was losing MP while attacking.
Rune Bow not good for MP

This Bow isn't good for NIN/RDM and maybe NIN/RDM too. It has hidden effect -4MP per tick when fighting as NIN/RDM.

Edit:Tried it as NIN/RDM only.

Could I have this and the Phantom Tathlum equipped at the same time?
RE: Item Slots
# Sep 06 2005 at 10:21 AM Rating: Decent
Nope, once you have a range weapon equiped you must have the right ammo in the ammo slot. If you equip the Tathlum your just goin to switch it.

If you really want to give this bow a shot (no pun intended) as brd, just for kicks, I suggest you use rng sub for best bow skills bonus, unless you don't care about actually hitting any mobs, heh.

I DON'T think a subjob with mp is needed. Could you not take advantage of the latent effect (which requires mp) by having mp granted by your equipment? (most good high lvl brd gear gives at least some mp bonuses) Or what about food?

Here's the plan:
Do your offensive songs, and debuff the melee. Then run back to the mages, throw up Ballad 1 and 2. Hit an equip change macro that puts on this bow, rune arrows, and maybe swaps out for some accuracy rings: Fire at will.

The fact that you won't have MUCH mp doesn't really matter, since the ballads will counter most of the mp drain. You could even bring along some cheap juices and counter it completely. Also, after offensive and melee songs, and ballads (I know the bow is fun, but songs ARE still your first priority) you will probably only have time to get off a couple of shots before the mob drops, at which point you hit another macro and go back to an instrument. You only need enough mp to last you that short amount of time, and you have ballads to help you do it.

Now, that still doesn't change the fact that, on my server, rune arrows are 2k EACH (not per stack)...

Can't have instrument equipped and this bow. So everytime u sing (try all the time) you'd have to remove the bow.

How about a bow a whitemage can use ;_;

The reason being is that SE made the whm much like the clerics of dungeons and dragons in that a whm may not, due to their religion, use any weapon that draws blood. Blms, on the otherhand, can use bows and daggers cause their magics arent based on religion so much as they are based on schooling. I will be glad to relay any and all similarities in FFXI and D&D if you would like. ^^ Darrensilver Kujata 54 rdm
Very Useful for Brd, Mages

Reason to equip this bow for mages and bards is because of the -2 Enmity. Need everything you can get in that area.

Why do BRDs need -Enmity??? What are you doing as a bard that gets you hate?

It's said that CHR helps you keep (but not gather) hate; so you see a lot of PLDs collecting CHR gear. As BRD, this turns into 'forces you to keep hate' instead of 'helps' lol.

Once, I accidentally sung a threnody on the mob before the tank Provoked, so the mob started attacking me. When the tank provoked, ehe mob still stayed on me! I think CHR's hate-holding ability accounted for Provoke not being able to pull the mob off of me.

I think this is also why four out of the five piece of BRD AF give Enmity-1, it helps counteract all the CHR we collect.

Still... I don't know that I'd go buying a Rune Bow to solve that problem. I guess you could set up a macro that swaps in as much '-Enmity' gear as possible and hit it when there's a 'hate mismanagement accident,' but to be honest, my inventory is already pretty full as a BRD and those accidents are so rare that I don't think I'd carry a rune bow just for that.

I thought this would be a nice tool for when I use my BRD for farming (It's my highest job by far, so I use it for everything) but really, you can just pull with songs.

You'd be surprised. <.< A lot of parties I've had, after the tank dies, the bard drops next. [granted, no one should die in parties anyway.]
not worth it for bards

Remember, bards don't get skill in bow, so any skill in it would have to come from a subjob. Also, since for the latent effect to activate you need mp, you would only get to have the latent effect activated if you subbed rdm (only job with both mp and archery skill). And even then, you wouldn't be likely to hit anything around your level with this and the delay isn't very short either. If you want to add in ranged attacks to your bard skills, just carry around pebbles/tathlum/Astragalos.

actually plds and drks both have mp and can equip bows, the - enmity is nice but keep in mind there arent any arrows for blm and brd and if there are there probably only 1 or 2 types

rune arrows match the jobs on the rune bow :)

# Sep 08 2004 at 3:31 PM Rating: Decent
Just like the other rune stuff I am guessing you need to go in "Attack" for Latent effect to activate then it drains 3 mp every 3 sec.

Looks kewl, but unfortunately BRDs can only use Rune Arrows, which are apparently kinda expensive. Well, if you're rich & lvl 73+, go ahead :)
omg XD
