Ok, I got this staff by equipping the Trick Staff II. I had no other event item on. I traded Ginger Cookies to a NPC that has never given me an item.

There might be more ways to obtain this but this is how I got it.

I just wanted to clear up all the confusion in getting *heads and *staves.

First off start off with no festival gear on. Including witch hats and pitchforks.

Start off with a couple of stacks of an sweets that stacks to 99. ie cinna cookies/ gob choco.
Get the cookies from the carnival guys. or AH.

Then you want to find a shopkeeper/guild NPC that has a costume on. Start trading a sweet over and over. The first time you do you will get a costume. Just take it off, and trade again. The "thank you..." message is only for the costume. It isn't for the random gift items. Keep trading the same treat until you get an item.

Hopefully you get a HQ item. ie Pumpkinhead 2/ Trick staff 2. If you don't just keep it unequiped and trade with another NPC until you get one.

I have also found that the NPCs tend to give them in a particular order. ie staff, head, staff, head.

Once you get a HQ item, equip it. and find another costume(shop/guild) NPC. Then start trading him treats. you should get the next pumpkin/trick item. equip it.

Then find another NPC and start trading. you should get the Treat Staff/Horror head item of the same quality.

If you got the HQ(trick staff 2) and want the NQ(trick staff 1) items too. then just unequip that slot. you might get the NQ item. It seems to me to be random. I got two trick staff 2s.

Hope this helps.

OK you can trade the same sweet over and over if you are just trying to get an item.

What I really think needs clarifying is this: a few guides say that if you trade the same sweet on the same day that nothing will happen. Now do they mean that you will not get a costume or do they mean you will not get an item or do they mean both?

Rare/Ex. you can't get 2 of the same item. If anything it was a Trick2 and a Treat2

I have a real hard time believing this as I just traded 100 cinna-cookies to the same NPC. First was a skeleton, then "thank you..." 99 times in a row with no item. Feel stupid, but gonna burn out the rest of those cookies to see, don't actually expect it to work as it seems too easy.

Well, 7 more trades later I got a pumkin head so...there ya have it. This method does indeed work. Now to see if I can get the better gear.

I think I've been doing something wrong here...
I've traded about 5 stacks of ginger cookies, 3 stacks of spicey crackers, and 2 stacks of other crackers... I've done this naked, so it's not that I'm wearing any other helloween gear... what's going wrong? I've not recieved a single thing. ~_~
Perfect way to get cookies

Here is a perfect way to get stuff (They mainly only accept Sweets) But this only works if your in SanD'Oria and thier in 1st on Region info so go to South SanD'Oria and near the AH there'll be a carnival talk to the guy in the carnival that isn't doing anything he gives you cookies for 10gil each i think (really cheap) take those and give them to the trick or treaters

How To Get Halloween Items
# Oct 28 2004 at 6:16 PM Rating: Excellent
It's a bit late, but I'm hoping this info can still help some. I finally figured out what I was doing wrong trying to get my items. You must equip, or not equip the items your given to get more. If you want Pumpkinhead I or II, or Trick staff I or II make sure you have no halloween gear equipped in your head or weapon slots. If you're wearing Pumpkinhead II, you will never recieve the first one. Instead you'll be given Horror Head II. What you want to wear is as follows...

To get:

Treat staff, wear the trick staff
Treat staff II, wear Trick staff II
Horror Head, wear Pumpkinhead
Horror Head II, wear Pumpkinhead II
____

Trick Staff - wear non halloween weapon or nothing
Trick Staff II - non halloween weapon/nothing
Pumpkinhead - non Halloween hat/nothing
Pumpkinhead II - non Halloween hat/nothing

Of course if you have the hat you want, but are still stuck on staves, you can equip either the Horror Head or Horror Head 2. They should stop giving you hats at that point, and only pass out Lanterns or staves. Same should work the other way, wear a Treat I or II staff and only get hats and lanterns.

It still takes some time to get them items knowing this, but it should work for everyone. I wasted 200k + trying to figure out my mistake on my main, and have gotten the items for at least 5 alts for less than 50k since figuring it out. I hope it's not too late for ppl to get this info and find their Halloween gear. Good luck to all~! ^-^

WOW! I usually don't post but this really helped me. (^.^)d

I followed both your methods and it worked great. 8/8 in under 45min. Wish I knew this info earlier in the week ;).
I first equipped the items as indicated in FrostAdora's post. I then traded one orange to an npc, then one cherry until I got something.
I then moved onto the next npc as darksunx did. After 2 stacks of oranges and cherries, I got the remaining 6 items I wanted. Thanks much!

GREAT WORK!

About 1 hour 40 min after reading this post and
15k in Oranges i got the remaining 4 items i needed. (YAY ME 8/8) If some say that this isn't the only way it is done, then i would say it's still by far the fastest!

Also, i would like to add my findings. The last few items i collected were done by standing at 1 NPC till it paid off, even a "Jack-o-lantern". Soon as i got anything, i would move to another NPC that gave me a different costume. Before i made full circle of all costumes, i would obtain a rare/ex item.
Not saying only Yag costume NPCs give "Treat Staff II", but soon as NPC that give you a Yag costume pays off, dont do Yag costume again till you get one of your rare/ex items.

Anyways, helps pass time trading all those oranges if you have a plan. About 3 hours and 30k investment isn't to bad for 8 rare/ex's.
Thank you FrostAdora for you post, till i read it i thought i would have to wait till next year to get the rest of my items.

Treat Staff II
# Oct 26 2004 at 10:49 PM Rating: Decent
Treat Staff II was an item distributed by NPCs during the Halloween celebration. NPCs in Windurst, Bastok, and San D'Oria were "dressed up" for the holidays in "mob" outfits -- as in, there were bogys or wights standing where normal NPCs should have been. In some places, ghost NPCs (called "Trick Ghost", "Trick Wight", and so on) would run slowly around town.

Trading "sweets" (honey, chocolate, fruits -- anything sweet and edible) to these NPCs resulted, usually, in being given a "festive costume" -- your character model would temporarily change to that of a bogy, wight, undead doggie, quadav, yagudo, etc. You could run around like that and theoretically scare people until they caught on.

Occasionally the dressed-up NPCs handed out items, to those who gave them sufficient amounts of candy (the frequency seems to be random, as is the item given). Usually you would get a Jack-O-Lantern, a food item which gave CHR -10 for about 30 minutes. Occasionally you would get Pumpkin Heads, Pumpkin Head IIs, Horror Heads, Horror Head IIs, Trick Staffs, Treat Staffs, Trick Staff IIs or Treat Staff II. You could give the candy to every NPC you saw in a rotation, or just keep giving the candy to the same mob. Eventually (a VERY long time in some cases) you would receive one of everything.

Of course, the price of candy skyrocketed almost instantly once people worked out what they had to trade to the NPCs. However, there is a cheap workaround. In each town there is a vendor who sells something sweet (usually fruit) for cheap. In Windurst, a Taru near the Saruta exit from Windurst Waters sells Saruta Oranges for about 30 gil each. In San D'Oria, they used San D'Orian Grapes (I think). Faerie Apples were also popular. You could just buy ten or twenty stacks of the things and start trading away.

I found it helpful to make a macro:

/item "Saruta Orange" <t>

Just firing the macro while targeting a dressed up NPC automatically handed them the item. This made mass trading a lot faster!

You may have to keep trading for a very long time, but eventually you will get everything. Be sure to keep an empty slot in your inventory to catch incoming items, otherwise you will be sorely disappointed when you receive the message "Cannot obtain Treat Staff II. Your inventory is full."!

The Treat Staff II appears to be a +1 version of Trick Staff II, which has only 10 charges of "Warp" and then (as far as I know) becomes just a pretty black stick. Treat Staff II has an infinite charge -- no matter how many times you use it, it always says it has 1/1 charges. You can keep using it forever.

To use Treat Staff II, simply equip it in your weapon slot (it's level 2, all jobs) and wait 30 seconds for it to "activate". Open your item list and the staff's name will have turned blue, indicating it is ready for use. "Use" the staff as you would use a piece of food or a crystal. You will be automatically warped to your home point ("Soappuppy uses a Treat Staff II.")

The recast timer on this bad boy is FIVE RL DAYS -- you can warp home with the staff only once every 120 Real Life hours. However, the enchantment never wears off, and you can use this staff forever, unlike the Trick Staff II, which has only 10 warps in it and that's it. (I got a Treat Staff II in the last Halloween event, and have tried it out. Once used, the timer starts a long countdown of 120 RL hours, and the staff still says 1/1 charges.)

ALL the items given out by the NPCs (except the Jack-O-Lantern) are Rare/Ex, and cannot be traded or sold. You'll have to wait til next Halloween to get one.

When you use all the charges, you will have a staff that has 0/10 charges. There is no way to recharge this, and the item does not change once the uses are gone.

Only usable during halloween event...

I just heard a very disheartening rumor that these staves(Trick Staff, Treat Staff, Trick Staff II, and Treat Staff II) can only be used during the Halloween event and won't be able to "warp" afterwards. Hopefully this is a false rumor considering all the time and gil it took to get these.
About the Staff
# Oct 25 2004 at 11:42 AM Rating: Good
Just so everyone knows, you GET the staff by trading fruits/sweets to an NPC. I used fruits because I am cheep, and I ended up getting all four staves and the horror helm. So... that being said, you know how to get it, right?

Furthermore, I used to staff just to test it out. It never runs out of charges. You must wait the agonizing 120 hours (5 days) real time to use it! But it is a free warp, so I am definately not complaining...

Any questions /tell Antame if your on Unicorn. If your not on Unicorn, I guess you could respond to this, but most likely I won't respond ^^

This staff doesn't need recharging the enchantment on Trick Staff II is permanent. You just have to wait 120 hours after using it to do it again.

Timers on enchantments are earth time. So 5 RL days.

And yes, this enchantment is special in that it never loses charge. I used mine yesterday to test it.

I was pretty certain that would be the case, otherwise, how would it be a +1 of the Trick Staff ^^

If you equip the regular item (Trick Staff for example), you will get the HQ if you have it equipped (Treat Staff). Just trade to the same NPC until you get an item, then move to the next. Use the cheapest fruit you can find. I got all 8 in a little over half-an-hour! :)

Yes, they shold be rechargable, since one of the rules is "only fully charged items can be put on Auction." If that wasn't the case you'd have to keep buying more and more of them. I can see that's feasable, but not if your going to level a long while and the Enchantment goes away quickly.

<Charge: 1 / Equip Delay : 30s / Recast Time : 5day>

This leads me to believe that these "Enchantments" can be recharged, why would they have a 5 day recast time if there was only 1 charge, they wouldn't need a recast time if you couldn't recharge it.
RE: Enchantment
# Sep 27 2004 at 3:04 PM Rating: Decent
the reason for the 5 day recast is because that is suppose to be for the trick staff II if you remeber last october the trick staff had the worst stats while the treat staff had the best stats. btw I Still have my old Treat staff :-) too bad its on my mule.
