Yeah they are dirt cheap on Caitsith. I watched the prices plummet a couple weeks after the patch came out. Now you can't throw a rock in Vana'Diel without hitting some mage wearing this thing. Anyhoo, seems the prices dropped on a lot of other new stuff too. I watched the prices plummet on Eisen gear and Noct gear as well. See I didn't buy any of these when the patch dropped, because like any intelligent person I understood the laws supply & demand. Now everything's nice and cheap. Huzzah.
I just got this set of equipment(excluding the feet because I don't have enough gil but am currently mining so it's coming) and I, for one, think it's wonderful. I couldn't craft this because I don't have the skill level. As soon as I hit 29 I went out and mined a lot for the gil and it was definitely worth it. This post really has no relevance to the subject of crafting level which is what it seems like everyone is talking about...I just wanted to advertise the Seer's set because I love it ^^
I believe the lvl cap listed here currently is wrong. I make these everytime so far, about 15 now, at lvl 53 cloth lvl 81 leather, and havent recieved a skill up in cloth or any breaks. This is also w/out synth support. Im guessing the recipe is high 30's low 40's for cloth. -C
I succeeded the first time I tried making it with clothcraft 23 and leather 10 (using advanced leathercraft support... was crafting other stuff and decided to just give this a try). Received skill up in cloth.
I am a clothcrafter and I know how much the materials cost to make this item. If the crafter is smart then they will take the long way into making the materials and not buy them seperately. (ie. Flax -> Linen Thread -> Linen Cloth or Sheepskins -> Sheep Wool -> Wool Thread, etc.) This will save a lot out of the cost to making the item. As will farming elementals for the necessary crystals.
This item sells at a good price considering it only costs about 5-7k to make.....that's a big profit. Strange that some say it takes lvl 70 cloth to make, since the materials are around lvl 35-40 cloth at highest. Maybe the quality of the item changes the skill to make it?
I believe the price will drop in time, though probably not much, as this is a good item.
I finally got my hands on this beauty and the rest of the set, with the exception of the hands because my Devotee's are better. I took a Horn drop from Stray Mary to get the gil, but to me it's worth it. My max MP has been increased from 437 to almost 500.
I love this piece of the seer's set, rest of them is just ok, you don't really see another type of armor at this lv offer the same status.
btw the price is 25~30k on our server (it is a little expenisve for the cost to craft) but I think it is well worth it, because it can be to wear until breast plate.
A good way to estimate the skill required for synthing anything is to take a look at synths with known caps requiring similar materials.
The majority of wool/cotton/linen synths cap within the Novice level of clothcraft (30-40), and most synths requiring sheep leather are Initiate level (20-30) tops. So take a look at your current clothcraft and leathercraft skills and if they fall on or near the upper end of these ranges, then you can probably comfortably make your own seer's tunic.
Generally speaking I never receive the "This item is beyond your current skill level" or whatever the error is unless I'm dealing with a skill below the first rank test and an item above it... therefor I'm assuming that you need to be at least lv 8 leather and have done the first guild test in order to even attempt this item.
A L60 Weaver did this repeatedly, who had a L24 Leathercraft skill. Myself, being a 66 Weaver with 7 leathercraft, could not even attempt the synth...just in case that helps at all.
I'm level 56 Clothcraft and level 5 Leathercraft, and was allowed to attempt it. Granted, i blew it all to itty bitty pieces every time, but it would at least let me attempt it... And i was given the recipe from one of the guild NPCs that gives out lower level recipes, so i somehow doubt it's level 70 to craft. I'd guess ~40 Clothcraft to reliably craft, with at LEAST 15 - 20 Leathercraft. ::Sigh:: Time to go level yet another craft ><'
