You will still get the drop, but you will "not meet the requirements to obtain this item." I guess you put the item on auction and go camp it. If it drops, keep it and let the other sell. If not, hope that no one has bought yours (or just use the profits to buy one back).

This item is only Rare... not Ex

You can carry as many Rare items as you want at one time however you can only carry one of a particular Ex item at a time.]

This item is only Rare...no need to hold it at AH or your delivery box (which isn't possible with Ex items anyways...)

You have it backwards. You may only carry one RARE item at a time and may carry any number of EX items, but you cannot sell, send, or trade these to anyone else. Try it yourself and you will see. To easily see why this is the case, look up the Shaman Garlic quest in Sandoria. These are EX items and you must turn in 2 at a time. How could you do this if you could only carry one EX item? Further, try buying two rare items from the AH. The AH wont let you, trust me.

One way to get around the only carrying one RARE problem is to go the person that delivers stuff to other people. You can send items to yourself this way, and as long as the item is not picked up in your Mog Safe's delivery box, the code that protects against multiple RAREs doesn't see that item. I have done this multiple times with the Mist Silk Cape, a rare cape dropped form Spini Spipi in East Sarutabaruta. The AH trick also works as well, I have had as many as 3 capes up for sale in my AH at any given time, all farmed by the same character.

Um...I know for a FACT this is not true, because I have had several rare items in my bag, however anytime I have a rare, exclusive item, it tells me I do not meet the requirements. So I believe YOU are the one who has it backwards. Don't believe me? Grab a small group and go kill crawlers. Once you have a smooth stone, if you get another one randomly, it will tell you that you do not meet the requirements to obtain a smooth stone.

No no no no no, you can only have ONE Rare item of the SAME KIND. Example: You camp Emp, you get the drop, and equip the pin. You camp Emp again, you get the drop, you CANNOT obtain it because you already have THAT Rare item. But, if you go camp another Rare item from any other NM, you can keep it.

To summarize: You can carry any number of EX and Rare you want, but only *1* Rare of the same kind.

Hope this clears things up.

no joke true story. ><

i was headed to selbina on a chocobo to catch some Cobalt Jelly fish to use during for LVing up my alchemy skill.
so, just for kicks... i decide to run over to the VE spawn and see whos camping it. (it being the "Summerfest" or w/e its called i was thinkin maybe not many people were there) so i ride up on my chocobo... VE is just chillin right there
... so i hop off my chocobo and mess up casting dia about 3 times cause im pretty excited... btw i am 47RDM/BLM atm. Anyways, VE is hackin away at me while i put on some real gear other than fishing gear. anyways i kill him and i see an insect wing drop and thats it... but about 5 seconds later i see the emp pin show up (musta been laggy or something).... so now i look pretty pimp with my hairpin on =P

The moment i started playing FFXI i knew i wanted to be a RNG, and despite how people say it's an expensive class, with some patience with farming it really poses no problem at all. As a compensation there isn't too much equipment RNG can get that's actually useful (we aren't tanks so def can be more or less ignored), meaning only few upgrades with money; Leather set - Scale set - lizard set - brass scale set - RSE - AF. The thing that DOES cost though are the extraequipment that include Emperor Hairpin. My main is so far THF 30 and my RNG is 19, so i would like to know if i will have a chance of soloing this little fly as RNG34/THF17 about with RSE equipment? Any opinions? ^^;
RE: Chances of soloing

Yes, you can solo it. Thfs can't at 34, but other more damage
dealing classes can.

No, I would wait til your THF is closer to lvl 40 as THF's are known for not being able to solo very good.

Oh no no, i wasn't going to use my THF to solo it ;) I meant that when i get my RNG to 34 or so and have THF subbed high enough to have Treasure Hunter, do you think i can match Valkurm Emperor as RNG/THF, not THF/RNG ^^

Got it today, didn't even bother actually at 30-40. I've camped Emp once before for 4 hours, just to see someone else claim it. They got no drop though, so it was a small consolidation ^^;

Server Maintenance in 3 hours, i think, and wonder what i should do. So I head to dunes and read a book while waiting for maintenance/emperor for about 1.5h or so, when i see a damselfly pop near me again. As it is my (and many others i believe) habit to kill similar monsters to the NM around the area to prevent confusion at the time of the actual spawn, i kill the damsel fast. 7 seconds later the Emperor spawns right on me and i turn towards it hitting Shadowbind macro. One Barrage killed it, got Insect Wing and Emperor Hairpin, and was very happy that i decided to camp it before the maintenance instead of logging out right away ^^;

You won't be seeing me camping this NM ever again in Titan, so good luck to everyone who's camping it, especially people who actually need the drop for use, not selling for money. ;)

I recently camped and beat the Emperor on Phoenix... (grabbed it while it was right behind another camper, heh). I am (and was) a level 30 War/15 Nin. This is the equipment I had:

http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/profile.xml?37450

I used a Meat Mithkabob, Utsusemi (probably unnecessary: I only used it 3 times), 2 X-Potions, and the Warrior 2hr. I was left with 200 hp at the end of the battle. Only drops were an Insect Wing and a Wind Crystal. I also received 100 exp (meaning he is a level 30 NM).

I hope this helps anyone at all.

Just be glad you arent like me on the Bahmute server......people who are on this server know what i mean who even know a LITTLE about the emp pin.....if your on this server you have baout a 12% chance IF that of getting this drop.....why you may ask? Well the person who camps this ( who is actually more than one person ) is a insane fast person who gets the drop everytime.... ive never heard or seen anyone but him get it he holds a monopoly on these things.... so its bad times for people who want one lol

The person the parent is referring to is 'Songokou'. Songokou is actually two people - and his mule, Trunks, completely owns the hairpin market on Bahamut. 9/10 of the time, the price history at the AH in Jeuno is listed as having Trunks as the seller. It is widely believed he sells gil.

He is a lv75thf/37rng, and is decked out in all the endgame equipment - including strider boots - when he flees, you've lost the spawn already.

He, along with Hamonrye, are the two people I hate most on Bahamut.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 25 2004 at 2:23 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) uhm, i have a question about this. if these a$$holes are doing this, why doesnt someone call a GM. its against the service agreement as far as im concerned. i cant believe square wont do anything against people like that. they should have their accounts cancelled immediatelly and their ip's blocked. people who camp NM's to make money are the biggest idiots and a$$holes who all should be kicked off the game.

man you gotta be kidding me, dont get pissed b/c hes better at getting something than you, none of your reasons are valid and in no way has he violated any part of the service agreement unless he is indeed selling gil. Luck plays a lesser party in good NM camping than it is easy to assume.
-He had Strider Boots, which means he is moving faster than almost everyone by 12%.
-He has Flee from Thf main, meaning as soon as he sees the Emperor he is moving even faster than the people he was already faster than.
-He has Wide Scan (plus the lvl 20 Wide Scan bonus) from his Rng sub, meaning he can see where the Emperor is at a far greater distance than anyone without this.
-For him to have gotten the Emperor so many times, he has likely learned by now where the common spawn points are most densly gathered, so he can be at the positions that have the highest percent chance of the Emperor popping near him.
-Also, since he has gotten it so many times, he likely checks Wide Scan pretty much continuously, which is something a lot of weak campers slack on.
-Obviously he has the patience for a LOT of NM camping, which many do not.

Concidering all of this, he has a much greater radius that the Emperor could pop in and he's still likely to be there first. He also has more opportunities than the average camper to see the Emperor pop, which means his greater chance of getting them is spread over more opportunities.

Luck is still a factor, since he is only increasing his chances. But, because his chances are being increased by his own ability and knowledge, yes he is "Better than you at getting it".

HeHe i dont really mind what he does was just bringing up a statement ^_^;; and i think that hes 3 people not 2 songgokou (sp) Trunks and Gotenks but anyway...

He also does sell his gil for RL money. And if you do the math of how many hairpins he gets a day to the maount of gil he gets for each one then how much most gil goes for online then he makes alot of money......he makes more than 3 million gil a day.

People have called the GM;s but they dont do anything i dont really mind cuz i dont need/want the emp pin so hehe i dont care hes a nice guy :)

IF you really do not like this person, spend the effort into making your own lvl 75Thf/ 37Rng and start taking him head on. If you hurt his market Im sure you'll **** him off. Also if he's using Strider boots and Flee (12% movement speed inc) PErhpas a 75Nin/37Thf with Ninja AF boots (25% movment inc at night) and Srtider boots for Day should take him out of business. Get a mule ranger to use widescan. Just a thought!

I was wondering, when camping NM's such as this with a PT, if one person gets the drop on one kill, and equips the item, will the mob no longer drop the item, even if the other PT members don't have one?

I'm pretty sure this is incorrect, as I recall killing Sophie a few times when I had a beestinger, and I would still get the drop frequently. Even though it would just tell me that "I do not meet the requirements to obtain this item", I would still see it drop.
RE: Silly question
# Jul 13 2004 at 3:46 PM Rating: Decent
silly but yes interesting to know if you can or can't i personally haven't tried it myself but i believe that you will be able to recieve it in a party, unless you were to get the item then i guess you would just drop it...?????
very wierd i would also like to know but i usually camp nm by myself. I've recieved 4 emperor hairpins out of 4 trys :) im very lucky

Emperor Hairpin
# Jun 11 2004 at 1:46 AM Rating: Decent
This is posted in the 'Valkurm Emperor' page.

Time for me to add my wonderful story to this great list. Here goes:

Me and my friend decided we'd go NM camping. We started off with Leaping Lizzy. 20 minutes in, she spawns, I grab her, no drop. So, we decide to go camp Hoo Mjuu, we spent a good 4-5 hours there, killed 2/3 spawns, no drop. (One time it took him about 2 and a half hours to spawn). Then, it was getting late and I was getting tired, as was she. We decided to see what else we could camp, and we came to the conclusion of Valkurm Emperor. So, we get ready, head on out to Valkurm. On our chocobos riding around, spamming wide scan, I got bored hopped off my chocobo and ran around for a bit. I started feeling weird, like I wasn't really camping any Notorious Monster, because I knew I wasn't gonna get him. But, there he is on my wide scan, furiously mashing escape, I use 'charm' on him, and I got him! From about 6-7 high levels, pissed, they scream some obscenities at me. So, I tell my friend 'GET YOUR *** DOWN HERE.' As she was on her chocobo, anyway, I start batting away at it, and she comes down to help me. Keep in mind, we had not been there more than 3 - 5 minutes. Anyway, we kill it. I see:

You find insect wing on the Valkurm Emperor.
...
You find emperor hairpin on the Valkurm Emperor.

So happy, I start screaming, and some guy, so pissed starts yelling at us, and making fun of us. He'd prolly been camping him for some time. We head over to Jeuno, and it's in the Auction for 299,999G right now.
:)

Not to mention that your data/experience is certainly not adequate for any kind of statistical prediction. The fact that you didn't get the drop twice and then got it twice proves nothing with any degree of certainty. It is as credible to say that Mithra have higher /random dice rolls because one beat you gambling twice in a row, or the that TH does nothing because you had to kill 100 leeches as a THF to get Carbuncle's Ruby and then some SAM showed up and got the drop in 10.

Any statisical prediction has to be based on a lot of seperate data points before it becomes a more convincing conculsion than old-fashioned luck of the draw.

WRONG!!!! if our in a party drop rate does not decrease!!! but it does not increase. it doesnt do anything when your ina party or not. its just your luck that you got it when you and your friend split up and got it 1/1, than goin 0/2 with... it makes no difference, i know because i have fought much harder nm in parties and have gotten very very good items, but for emperor and weaker nm i solo, but i find that it makes no difference whatsoever

Here is some info: if you are 30+ melee class you can solo him so dont let the high levels tell ya any difference and if you can get a partner even better just remeber to get a bunch of hi potions they will give you about 100 hp per potion also if there are any gobs near by clear em out if you can even if they dont attack you when you are fighting the normal flies they will link when you fight the emperor. if you have a couple friends you can spred out along the beach only one of you has to get argo then the rest can join you in no time. just remeber if you get in trouble no one will help you so get together with some friends and camp that fly:)

Yeah, of all the NM's I have hunted (which is pretty much all of them at lvl 36 and below) this is by far the most rewarding and simultaneously stressful one I have camped yet.

I dont know about other servers, but on Alexander, you have got to have a party in order to compete. There is always AT LEAST 3-4 other people ALWAYS there and around the potential spawn times the numbers goes up dramatically.

Wide Scan and Treasure Hunter is a MUST! The more people in your party with one or both of those the better... In mine, I had two people with WS and two people with TH1 and then a voker.

I got the drop on my second kill...but that was about the 10th spawn I saw on WS. The item is DEFINATELY worth FAR MORE than its value in gil, but just be ready for Wide Scan Spamming, running around in circles, lots of worrying and lots and lots and lots and lots of waiting... On the plus side, the Golden Bat is really close, so you can go camp it inbetween Emp Spawns and occassionally you have an opportunity to get Fire Clusters when the weather gets hot.

I am happy that I got my drop and I am really really greatful for my friends who stuck with me the 4 nights it took to get it...but I dont EVER want to go back there again...

I have BLM, WHM, NIN, BRD leveled so this item is more valuable than it's value in gil. The evasion = not getting hit, not getting hit = not wasting MP with Cure spells. Not using MP = no downtime get my drift?

If by "hard to get this damn thing" you mean finding the emperor, then you should sub a ranger for Wide scan.

If you mean that it's hard to kill, then you should definately ask your lvl60 friend.

If you mean that it rarely drops the item, then you should level a thief to at least 15 for treasure hunter... of course you can't sub both ranger and thief so you should decide which is more important ^_^;

As for me, I got it in two kills as 46thf/4rng, Treasure Hunter II helps a lot with drops. Good Luck.

I have horrible luck with NMs. First of all before I say anything, on the Lakshmi server NMs usually have atleast 2-3 people minimum camping them at any given time during the day. Usually atleast 6-7 people are camping the Valkurm Emperor which makes it very hard to get it. I myself have not gotten it once so far. :( once I do I better get the Emperor Hairpin or i'll cry. lol

Rabbit Charm (Jaggedy-Eared Jack) - 0/39

Leaping Boots (Leaping Lizzy) - 0/2 (Geez atleast 10 people are camping Lizzy at any given time)

Beestinger (Stinging Sophie) - 1/3

Bad luck for me :(

i just noticed that 2 posters here have the count for Jaggedy Eared Jack and no successful drops. you may have already heard this, but i think you have to actually be a THF main to get the charm. i mean, doesn't it seem strange that after 39 tries it hasn't dropped? ask around, but this is what i've heard. hope it helps.
