Running around Sandy and found one in a bazaar for 1k.

Might sound weird but I use this as my 19 Ninja along with the bone mask +1 bone subligar +1 bone harness +1 and nomad's mantle makes for some nice evasion.

Sounds really strange, because a Bone Mask +1 is Headgear, and so is this. :)

Personally I abandoned my Royal Footman's Tunic at level 14 for a Linen Robe+1 and this Erudite's Headband. Better Defense and about the same evasion when you consider that you lose some with the AGL drop. I've been wearing this headband, off and on, ever since, as a black mage.

Same here apart from i never had footmans tunic. Overall i think they are about the same in stats apart from this combination is well cheap especally if you do the quest for the robe.
These can be easily HQ'd by a 80+ Clothcrafter. I asked a nice Japanese Clothcrafter who was 81 to synth it for me (cost me only 1500 gil for the ingredients) and he made it on the first try. Pretty good for an 8k gil item.
It's a great item if you're a mage switching from the no-headgear tunic to RSE equipment at level 33.

If you look at its stats, level, name, picture, and little white border, it appears that this is the "perfect roll" version of the cotton headband.
I'm still wearing this @57 as a BLM until I get AF *cries*
