Well, heres my story:

Me (DRK 16) and 2 Mithra Friends of mine wanted to hunt this together and split the money (thats 100k each...not bad) oh and they were 20 War and 15 Rdm.

So we hunting forever it seemed (1hr and 30 mins ><) Then we got bored and started playing with a Tainted Hound. When we were we were just sittin there talkin and all of the sudden i see on my screen "Jaggedy-Earred Jack hits -----(i dont wanna say his name ^^) for 43 points of damage." So i was freakin out, so were to 2 Mithras we jump up and run to him...he dies (he was a level 8 whm XD haha) And of course we slaughter the little ******* very fast....and and...and....no drop -_-
I don't really understand...

Why is this necklace so sought after? Why is it so expensive to buy?

I have the charm and I really haven't noticed all that much difference for drop rates, etc. I use the spike necklace most times when I am xping.

Is there some hidden attribute that increases drop rate? Steal + 1 is nice I guess, but it's only for stealing right?

At any rate I wear it when farming in the hope that it may be adding some hidden attribute that increases my odds of getting silk threads or whatever else I may be farming.

But really, I just don't understand... Hmmm, perhaps it is so sought after because it is so rare?

He was asking if there's some 'hidden' attribute he doesn't know about, also if anyone could enlighten him. Practice what you preach, before you start pointing fingers, read. The only stupid question is the one not asked.
Anyhow, I have this and it helps alot in the steal department, but not quite sure if it has some hidden attribute. Because TH could be the ability at work when getting so many drops. I am just planning on using it as a tool in a steal macro, since the spike necklace is better after 21 in exp parties.

It took me 31 kills but I finally got this thing. Was passing through one early morning and hardly any North American players on at the time. Was heading to Sandoria from La Theine and like always, stopped by the "spot". What do you know nobody camping and Jack was just sitting there. I hopped off and engaged it:

Mohoso defeats Jaggedy-Eared Jack.

Mohoso finds a rabbit hide on the Jaggedy-Eared Jack.
Mohoso obtains a Rabbit Hide.

Mohoso finds a Rabbit Charm on the Jaggedy-Eared Jack.
Mohoso obtains a Rabbit Charm.

Well how about that..?
I was so excited but nobody really around that spoke my language.

I shouted in my LS anyway and told all my friends.
Now I'm telling you lol. Well I am happy I finally got it and dont wish to see him for a long while.

The first day I wore it around I recieved 2 offers for it and dozens of comments on it.

People really notice this item, also a quick note:

I have noticed a great difference between TH and TH2 so far since I have had it there has been consistently more drops for me on all mobs. Well this morning ramble is pretty uninformative but I had to tell you I finally got it and it only took me 31 kills. I feel quite lucky really.

Thank You,

Mohoso-Quetzecoatl

I posted this in the Jaggedy-Eared Jack Section about a month ago, I think it would help you here.

Keep in mind you might go insane, and you would have better luck, and waste less time if you just bought it.

This has been edited:

Right when I hit 45 I put TH2 to the test.

Poked around the forest for about an hour, and decided to do one last widescan, no luck. When I dropped my map there he was...

Launched a boomerang and that got his attention. Threw another and killed it.

Phraust finds a Rabbit Hide on the Jaggedy-Eared Jack.
Phraust Obtains a Rabbit Hide.

-=Annoying pause due to network lag=-
-=Disheartened me sinking in my chair=-

Phraust finds a Rabbit Charm on the Jaggedy-Eared Jack.
Phraust Obtains a Rabbit Charm.

I lost it..
For the next 10 minutes I was msging people that I finally got it.

After 96 kills and nothing the 97th finally yielded a payoff.
I am not lying about the number of kills... I tried all the suggestions and theories in here and albeit some of them make sense... most, if not all are bogus.

Not to pick on anyone but.. do you know the likelyhood of getting Jaggedy-Eared Jack to spawn at 50% moon? or 100% moon? Not very. I lvled all my jobs to lvl 12 trying the 'lower lvl' theory. No dice.

It is random, I just happened to be on the losing side of the probability scale...

It is a lottery pop. I killed everything in the area (120 Throwing skill killes most things in one hit.) and widescanned like crazy, while moving around. I could get it to pop usually in about an hour.. sometimes it took longer. No noone else killed it in that time I would have seen it even 10 seconds or so after it died because widescan still picks up fading corpses...

So...

In short the facts are as such:

It is a lottery pop.
It tends to pop more in the (H-9) region.
Every 20 or so will pop in the (G-9) area.
Moon Phase doesn't seem to affect drop.
It spawns at intervals of at least an hour at most five hours.
It spawns at both night and day.
It is not very camped.
People hunting it usually are pretty cool, not as rude as the emperor people that i noticed.

Stats of when I got mine:

LVL 45-THF/RNG-22
Moon: 24%
Time: 12:39am PST

Rabbit hides attained from this hunting maxed out my Sand Oreo fame...

I also noticed that wide scan gets bigger with age =D which was a burden. When I was hunting it with a lvl 1- 5 RNG sub, I only had to deal with a 2 x 2 Grid... When I got to lvl 22 sub, it was a little over 4 x 4... and I had to search through a lot of enemies. If you have Widescan, LOOK FOR THE HYPHON!!!! (-) <== this will catch your eye quicker than anything. And all the high lvl players camping have to sift through all the names in Widescan, and close out thier maps. YOU HAVE A FIGHTING CHANCE IF YOU ARE LOW LVL. Do not be intimidated by the high lvl guys.

Last two things:

(1)Make this bind:

/clock
/clock
/echo =======================
/echo <t>
/echo =======================
/ra <t>

/clock once will turn off your clock it turns it on again for you and gives you a marker for when you kill it so you know what times it spawns, very helpful I thought so I can run off and mine in the grotto while I wait an hour...

And finally

(2) Have fun! There's nothing like looking in the AH in Jeuno and NOT seeing your name in the Rabbit charm BUYER'S column!

Cheers,

No need to use /clock twice if you want your clock to stay on. Use "/clock on" instead, which sets it to "on" whether it was on or off.

Hello,

First of all I would like to say I am sorry.
the leaping lizzy is totaly random...it doesn't spawn every 30minutes...I waited 4 hours today hoping to get my boots.. after the 4 hours was up I got her once...no drop..sigh..
any ways. 20 minutes later she poped again
I flee on over and too late. so I decide there maybe hope 10 minutes later she spawned again..
wow I was lucky..I flee on over again and I see her dead body. the person who got her said this
.../sigh I guess he got nothing...so abou 4 and half hours later I am stuck with nothing....could any one post an easy way to farm so I could buy me a pair? seems my luck as a thf isn't luck....thank you have a good day

For the most part, unless they are your competition nobody pays any attention to campers. Camping is not illegal by any means and never harms anyone. If you get mad from another person "taking" your kill, don't. Remember it is fair game, it doesn't matter whether or not you have been there killing rabbits for the last 2 hours when the pop comes it is free game. That is why you need to be attentive if you want to increase your odds to actually killing the NM you are hunting. Jaggedy should never be camped for profit. I believe most people realize it so that is why it is not heavily camped. Leaping Lizzy is a "cash crop" NM so it is extremely camped on Quetzecoatl. I personally don't like camping NM's for cash it just gets boring quickly. I find myself camping them when I tire of XP parties or just bad parties...lots of things to do, just one of the many is NM hunting and this Jack wabbit is the coveted for THF's at any level. Just be sure to pack a lunch and some patience.

I believe what upsets most people is those who camp NM's like this solely to sell the items for the huge profit. I'm a RNG23, and I desperately wanted to the Leaping Boots for the past 16 levels...but who the hell has the money for it? Naturally the one time I camped Lizzy, I saw her but some WAR/MNK or something ran up and voked it while I was engaged and couldn't hit it because it had started moving. Not that I blame him for using the faster method to pull it, as I've said myself that area-spawn NM's are 100% free game until their names turn purple...but I'm more than willing to bet that he had no intention other than to sell the boots for the nice 200-300K for his wallet.

Don't get me wrong, I would've sold them when I hit 29 (RSE level for Elvaan) too, but that's not the point. The point is I actually would've/could've used the item, and of course there are always others who would/could use items like the Rabbit Charm, but they are constantly beaten out for them by high-level players who seemingly make it their jobs to camp these monsters and who do it solely for the profit. It's stupid and hurtful to both sides. Not only does it deprive people of these items who actually would/could use them, but it also wastes the campers' time, since the drops are nowhere near guaranteed or common.

I don't presume to suggest that NM-campers who are in it only for the money should go off and leave the drops for the people who are actually in need of them, but I do believe that the constant interference of campers simply in it for the money is unfair and annoying. Not that I expect anything to change by my ******** about it. :-P

If there were just more Rare/Ex NM equipment drops, then of course the camping would be limited to only the people who planned to use them...but of course, that would introduce the question of what you'd do after you no longer needed/wanted the item, and "throwing it away" is a crappy option. So really...there's no solution other than leaving it the way it is, where losers can come camp NM's for expensive drops solely for the money, wasting their own time and forcing the people who actually want/need the items to waste their own time on competition with these campers or to buy them for exhorbitant prices at AH. ><

"People who actually need it." Do you have any idea how much high level equipment costs? One piece can be over a million, so they dont actually camp it for luxury... I think you are that person who camps it for luxury, Leaping Boots are definitely not necessary.

Reminds me of Pyzjn from Qeynos Plains. I spent countless hours camping that little gnome years ago, and half of the time a druid/ranger would snatch her up.

That's life; you can't expect people to act the way YOU want them to act, even if you write a novel about it. In fact, their attention span generally wanes after 2 paragraphs, and the rest is written off as mouin mouin mouin. Someone get Aarun a pacifier please.

Well this lil' charm works at lvl70....
most of u r thinking: "WTF! its worthless, might as well sell it" WRONGO!
this piece will be handy when u reach lvl70. However, to be specific, its only for Thieves.
Theres a NM u need to steal from in order to beat him..so ur Gear will be Full +INT (which increases "Steal") and +Steal...Cus its a ***** to steal from...And besides, its a lvl7 necklace..If which has DEX+1 AGI+1..i think thats amazing for a lvl7+ necklace until ur reach lvl21 (Fang necklace)...Cheers, hope i was of use

First, there seems to be no ryme or reason as to the drop rate, I truely believe after killing 98+, that the drop is completely random.

As for your second question, Quetzalcoatl server I have seen it as much as 400,000 G, no more, and no less than 350,000.

When I got mine it was 24% moon. I forgot to write down the day.. (Lightday, watersday, etc...)

um...
# May 14 2004 at 3:12 PM Rating: Decent
Um... Non campers should stop complaining about camping. You dont realize how much money it takes to buy equip at lvl 55+. Everything you need is like 100k+ which means it can take 1mil+ just for a set of armor that works, which might not even be the best.

I swear I am not pickin a fight,
That being said, I found I can make more Gil mining in the time it takes to hunt one NM, and am assured a payoff.

I got Gobbybag I - IV done, and snag about 5 stacks of fire crystals and 10 stacks of Pickaxes run to a mine and come out with no less than 150,000 G worth of stuff that sells a hell of a lot quicker than a NM drop, and it takes a quarter of the time to mine that much. So in theory I make anout 500,000+ Gil in the time it takes to hunt one Jaggedy-Eared Jack, and am assured the money.

<edit>
Asuuming you have a free enough inventory to hold items while they are being sold.
<end edit>

Now...

When I am cleaning my office or ******** around and don't feel like being in a group or anything, or if it's something I need, I camp an NM.

Cheers

All these people who camp a NM just to sell the drop make me sick. You should find something else to do with your time. Leave it for the people who can actually USE the drop ie "Rabbit Charm". Cause most people dont have a ridiculous 400k to spend on it unlike the japanese.

I can tell you this much. I have killed Jack 20 times no drop. It does take patience and its nice to do when you tire from leveling. There are plenty of NM's to hunt but I dont agree with hunting the NM's for selling. Mining and Chopping wood has made me up to 50k in a day so money should not be your motovation behind the hunt. I can tell you that it is completely random but if you kill the other rabbits around the area it will make the time go by faster. (just don't forget to keep up on your WIDESCAN). For the most part I am a "Farmer" or NM hunter by trade because I like to get the rare stuff have some good equipment and increase my chances as a THF of getting a party. (Some may find it hard to get into a party as a lower level THF) stick with it I love the THF more than any other Job in the game. You have any NM questions I have some answers so look me up on the Q!

Enjoy the game you purchased and played, what does it accomplish ******** over the internet at people that camp? Let them play the way they like to play, no1 forces you to play like them or play at all. I see no wrong doing of camping, even though at 1 hour i get bored and leave.

This topic is about the NM Jaggedy-Eared-Jack and where he spawns and drops which items. Not a topic discussion about life and people's way they live. I suggest you use ranting and raving in a place designatated for it...its called the complaint box.

I guess in the Garuda Server the charm is up to 600k or something like that...but to actually get the charm you have to have Treasurehunter meaning your a thief...would ya really want to give it up same with the Leaping Boots & The Emp Hairpin all good stuff from NM drops are for thieves and can usually only be acquired by using a Thief!....interesting.

Not necessarily true, Emp Pin isn't even best for Thieves, it's best for Ninja. Thieves shouldn't be aggroed enough for the evasion to matter, whereas a Ninja is always aggroed. Lots of jobs benefit from the Boots, Ninja and Thief just being the main two.

Then you have the Peacock Charm, hardly useful at all for a Thief. Mainly for Rng, though good for Nin too.

DEX affects the strengh on sneak/trick attack so saying emp pin is useless for thf is totally wrong its paramonut thf equip and is ideal until lvl 75.

I have seen it 4 times already and killed him twice now with no drops ><. He killed me once and another time I let a high level take it because I was only lvl 9 red mage. I don't think he respawns based on time. I believe it's lottery pop, because I've heard of people killing it twice in 1/2 an hour. Jaggedy spawns in H-10 as well, it's not just H-9. I've seen 4 completely different spawn areas. One of them was on the road in H-10, so if there are a bunch of high lvl's camping the H-9 area, you should camp the road.

Jeez, @#$% camping crap is here also!?!? I was so happy when I got this game in march. Here I am happy that I no longer play EverQuest for the PC or EQOA, both to me are still the same crap called EVERCRACK! An we have campers in the game also? Listen folks, this game is different, one good thing I like about this game is there is no such thing as Kill Stealing. You can't attack a mob someone else is attacking, so THANK YOU Square/Enix for learning from Sony's mistakes with EQ. But now we got the same type of players that rather waste thier life camping a mob for 7 hours, let alone 3 or 4 hours!?!? Come on folks, you could be leveling or doing missions or quests and having FUN in the game. I like this little pendant also, but will I waste my time camping it just for Def1, agi1 dex1 and a +1 to my steal effect, and I AM a Thief! Answer.. @#$% NO! Why? Cause IMHO its not worth wasting that many hours of my life camping it. Take it from someone that wasted 3 years playing EQ folks, I got so annoyed at all the campers in the game, the Kill Stealers, Trainers, and players that would sell an item that ISN'T all that, for like 30k and up! Someone said 400k for this item!?!? If you feel you should spend 400,000 gil for this item, you are letting yourself get used by the FARMERS as we called them in EQ.

Whats my point? This isn't EQ, so why not just enjoy the game? IF you can't compete with the Japanese players (no offense to japanese players), because YOU feel they are flooding your world market, then don't buy from them, nobody is forcing you to. You can make it a habit to not buy from players like that, an take an active roll to drive down market prices on items you KNOW aren't worth that kind of gil. Sounds like Square/Enix has rare items in this game also, but buying a rare item that really gives worth while stats, versus one that is so so? Just raise levels or buy other gear and your steal skill should improve I would guess, since this is a final fantasy game.

As the important login message said when you made your first character and went to log on for the very first time... it told you Not To Forget your Friends, Family, School, Work, LIFE BASICALLY! Well if your camping in this game for hours and hours for a so so item, then you are on your way to becoming just as hopeless as those folks playing EverCrack that HAVE NO LIVES! EverQuest is a @#$% Lifestyle now, not a game anymore. Can you believe that players actually talk in their guild chat about how their wives wanna divorce them over EQ!? Boyfriends and girlfriends breaking up over EQ! Can you believe there are workers who got the pc version of EQ installed on computers at their job and their are playing EQ at work!!! Those people should be FIRED and sent to therapy to get HELP! I'm concern that players can do that in FFXI aswell. After all this game can be played on a PC as well as the PS2. Camping for hours when you could be having fun with the game is how it all starts, then the game slowly begins to wear on you and your patience. Before long, it becomes a unhealthy addiction that frankly isn't even fun anymore, BUT your so addicted on camping things, selling, raiding to improve your characters only so greedy players can fuss and want more, while other guild members that have very little get shafted! Trust me folks, you never want to be a victim of any of that. It will ruin how you feel about MMORPGS! If your an rpg lover like myself, the worst thing that could happen to you regarding your hobby, is for other players and the WAY you play the game to ruin it for you so much that you hate the genre you once loved so dearly. IF this sounds like rambling to you, fine, but its the truth, not just from what I've experinced, but from observing many EQ players. Hell, I've even seen players of Diablo 2 that got so stuck on trading items rather then enjoying the game. It looks like its happening in this game as well :(.

Camping an NM for 4-8 hrs = Not Fun
Farming silk for 10k/hr would = 40 hours of farming crawlers or = really, really not fun.

This is all a matter of money/time, or the most efficient way of making money. For a static EXP party, BCNM would be a fast/fun way of making money. Each of the 6 people BCNM 40 buy an Orb and do the Circle 6 times. You can make a fairly guranteed 200k/piece that way.

A lvl 40 Thief with Flee and Widescan (NM killing machine) should be feared and rich. Have you ever tried to find a party as thief?

SE tried to give thiefs incentive, i.e. using Thief's tools, living key, skeleton key, to open chests as fast as they can find them. A 34 THF/BLM (for warp) with a stack of skellie keys can easily complete RSE 12 times in a 7 hour window. Costs are 3k/key and 500 for a teleport-crag back. The RSE sells for 20-30k on Shiva. 20k * 12 = well, alot. And it should since it takes a non-thief 2-4 hours just to find a key and since you can't safely get a key until lvl 40, yet equip lvl for the RSE is 27-33.

I would really have to agree here....I played EQ for a long time myself, and I got so addicted that it just made me sick after a while. I stopped playing that game for many reasons, most of which are covered by him in his post. This game however, doesn't offer a lot of really REALLY good rare items to lower lvl players, so that is why higher ups try to take advantage of it. I'm a 21 WAR/MNK and I use scythe class weapons in preparation for my career as a DRK. I need DEX, plain and simple, or I won't hit anything. I recently purchased 2 Balance Rings, that each give a +2 boost in DEX. Now....just 2 points in DEX, doesn't seem like the greatest thing to ever happen, but they sell for about 20k a pop in Jeuno, and WAY more than that in the noob cities. He made a very valid point in his post, if you think that these things are too expensive, DON'T F!@#$ING BUY THEM!! Yes, gil is important to any character of any LVL, but if you think it's hard to get some in this game (which it's not, AH is best idea EVER), then go and try to make 20k plat in 2 hours in EQ with a character less than lvl 50, and see how much competition you have in the areas where plat is easiest to get. Matter of fact, one more point to add to his rant, the high lvl characters farming mobs is so bad in some areas, that characters that actually need to go to these zones to lvl up, can't, cause there are no mobs left to kill after the high ups get done laying waste to them all. Just a thought, get a life if you are camping for more than an hour tops. That's all from me.

Hi AriesGhost and Cloudvault

I can't begin to tell you how happy I am that 2 people understood my message so quickly and even responded. See Qaurz? You might want to take notes here! Cloudvault is someone like me that has played another MMORPG before Final Fantasy Online, so he/she knows about the stuff I'm talking about. I don't know if AriesGhost has played other MMORPGs but if not, they still understood the points I was making.

Do you remember this message from FFXI Quarz?

---------------------------------------------
A Word to Our Players

Exploring Vana'diel is a thrilling experience. During your time here, you will be able to talk, join, and adventure with many other individuals in an experience that is unique to online games.

That being said, we have no desire to see your real life suffer as a consequence.
Don't forget your family, your friends, your school, or your work.
---------------------------------------------

Now... when you are camping. it always starts out innocent. It begins because you need an item that you don't have the cash for but could use. If you end up camping for a long while, you feel very accomplished after you finally get the item. But, more then likely your one of many that tells yourself.. "NEVER AGAIN, damn, camping that long for this thing, I could have been doing this or that!" Then, you end up camping again, only this time you start making excuses, saying something like... "Oh, only this last time, cause its real important" or something of that degree. Then you camp a long time again for a rare monster for a rare item. This keeps on, and slowly gets worst each time as you CONTINUE to make excuses and try to justify what you are doing. Basically, your trying to convince yourself that its really worth while. It goes on and on, and the addiction gets worst until you are STUCK in a pattern of always camping rare mobs for rare items to sell or use.

Now, camping isn't really all bad, its ok if its moderate, 30 minutes, maybe up to 2 hours tops. Also, if its not day after day trying for like weeks in a row. BUT, if you see yourself falling into the pattern I stated above, YOU got problems! A video game has become more important in your life then it should. Think man, how the heck does someone who works have time to play like some folks did on EQ for like... 12 hours, sometimes more, let alone 7 or 8!?!? There things like visitng family, friends, going to school or college, and work the next day. You got to work if you WANT to pay for EQ or in our case FFXI. You got to do well in school or your parents will most likely CANCEL your FFXI account. If your not doing well in college because of this game and how you play it so much, ISN'T college more important? You got to make something of yourself in this world, OR are you gonna be a bum that stays home living under your parents and never doing anything with your life? You see what I mean? Camping sounds ooooh so innocent, and to a degree it is, but many campers have taken camping to a very unhealthy level! Their social relations are at risk because of their addicition, their jobs are at stake or grades at school. They are not getting out much, they are to busy stuck at a computer monitor or tv playing all day long, not going outside and getting some fresh air and using their muscles to keep fit. I hope I have helped you to understand what I was trying to say now Quarz. I have 2 supporters that understand, so I am not alone. As for the information about this item. Heh, I gave my opinion, I didn't think it was all that. It IS a nice item, but not worth the hours of camping players are reporting having done. But again, thats IMHO, not a fact.

The small amount of Dex and Agility on this item will help so you avoid missing monsters so often, you will evade hits more as agility will increase your evasion chance. The def 1 isn't going to help that much, we know that. As for +1 to steal, nice! But, from my experience, you CAN'T steal rare items anyway, that would be to easy and cheap, right? The things you do steal are usually not all that and you can most likely get the same item you stole just KILLING the monster anyway! Still, if your a roleplaying fan like me, you WANT to play your character/class in character, meaning? A warrior should act like a warrior, tough, strong. A Thief should act as a thief, cleaver, quick, nimble and have a desire to steal things, from good or bad monsters, etc.

400k for this item though? Some servers are selling this item for 600k btw, that is crazy! How do you drop the prices in your game worlds economy? Well ENOUGH of you players have to have the GUTS to simply do without certain items, meaning don't buy items that are so expensive. It will eventually cause the high level campers to loss patience and give up, they will drop the price and keep dropping it till someone buys it and then that becomes the standard selling price. It goes up and down all the time. But the players control it! Higher levels most likely are NOT using this item, so its being bought by other higher levels so they (TWINK) give it to an alternate lower level character they play. This is so common in EverQuest. Unless some mid level 30+ character is saving up 400k or more to buy this? *shakes his head* Well enough with all this. I don't feel this particular topic needs further discussion, at least not from my end unless something real interesting is said afterwards.

(RP) "Later folks, Safe Journeys, Good Hunting and May the Goddess watch over you." (OOC) In real life, may your real life be good, and full of happiness, good family and friends, and may you always have a job to keep a roof over your head and food on your table. :)

dont delete it he makes a good point, wtf are level 65s doing camping? there are plenty of better NMs to kill that jack and lizzie for 400 and 200K respectively, he makes a GOOD AND VALID POINT. onviously youre too ignorant to get it, or youre one of those lame *** campers. i farm, but i farm certain items, none rare, all dozens, i need cash but i dont need it so bad as to sit around and not get XP for kills, hes right, and youre a complete idiot who has no social value.

It should get deleted. He basically just posted an entire thing that had nothing to do with the item. No one cares what he has to say about how people should play the game. They're going to play it the way they want, regardless of anything anyone else says. Camping can be worth it, it all depends on what you think. Honestly, it'd be easier to camp the rabbit for the 400k than what I normally do.

Please don't spread misinformation, I received this item as a 54Blm/27Rdm 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately it doesn't sell quickly on my server and I've unsuccessfully had it on AH for over 2.5 weeks. It's pretty irritating when all I want is my 280k. :\
