Square-Enix needs to make this item Rare. That way, whoever gets the kill once will have to leave and get rid of it in order to get another. Seriously, the same guy keeps killing it two or three times a night. >_<

I'm really disappointed at the Mantle/Cape selection at this level. This is the only new cape I can use between Rabbit and Lizard and that's just silly! A 12 level gap?

FYI they do insult us NA players, and some of them are rasict, or at least consider them selves superior players to ourselves... you dont see us running around with "<English> <Party> Only~ ^^" now do you?

you have to admit that the term "***" has a negative connotation to it. even when people don't mean anything by it, it can still be hurtful. i mean, you don't see african americans referred to in the newspapers as "Colored" anymore do you?

LOL, it looks like you can camp for this one, sell it and buy the Nomads Mantle (DEF=2 AGI+1 EVA+3) and equip at lvl 24, making a nice profit from a lower level mantle (the Nomad mantle sells for 10K). Funny right? I will verify this and post.

Well, things haven't gone as well for me camping this item - it is continually overcamped by high level characters and I am not too keen on wasting hours pursuing this at this point; I actually want to play the game. But I did check the AH prices - you can buy the nomads mantle with the money from the travelers mantle, depsite the level difference in the items.
How much do these sell for because if they are that camped I will just buy one because it sure would help.

I kno I am probably stating what has already been said but this monster has become extremly OVER camped. I am on the sylph server and as many as 10 people have been in one area trying to get the spook and his infamous "Travelers Mantle". I believe that if more people tried to work together,ect. then camping the spook could once again become fun.

This things been my main source of income since I became lvl 17, its also a very good method to making a decent amount of money, since up to 3 spooks spawn per hour, and they have a spawn time.
I am a veteran camper of spook, hehe. My camp record on this guy is 42/152. I wanted to tell you all my way just because I think the whole world should know! ^^;;.
My way of speed voking is very simple when you think about it. Go into your job abilities menu, select provoke (or w/e pulling spell/ability you have^^) and spam it. It may sometimes target something else. Bummer :'( Just live with it and remember this - Spook will be there tommorrow night! ^^;;
P.S. Spooks spawn time is 20:00 - 20:10 , 23:30 - 1:30 , 3:10 - 4:00

I love this monster. Its the funnest and easiest gil i've ever made. I'm 7/33 with it and I've mastered camping this monster. I've made some firends (and enimies) while camping this but all in all it is a fun thing to do. It's become sort of a ritual now (please forgive the cornyness of that ^^) but i just love to hit F8 in sync with Jimmy playing the immigrant song in the background ^^. This is a fun thing to do and if you got your macros in order you'll be rich in no time (if the mantles sell for on average 32k like on Titan). Yes so hehe ^^ learn them macros and learn them good and go hunt the spook! ^^

I have fought this spook so many times and get the mantle 1 of 3 times usually, and yet i am still poor.... **** dont have better servers than us also, i have gotten the valkurm emperor 5/5 times with lvl 75 *** WAR/NIN, so stop complaining

a 1 second difference means nothing when it comes to camping VE, with spook though, 1 second is everything because it pops right infront of your face.
I'm now 7/32 on this guy. If someone is there with a better connection than me, i just do something else for a while. Better to just leave it and come back rather than getting all stressed out about not getting first voke/charm.
Try your luck at the Crypt Ghost and Goblin Gruel. Crypt Ghost can be fun to fight if you have had enough with Spook. I love it when Crypt Ghost is about to spawn and everyone leaves at 18:00 to go after the Spook!

I fought it yesterday 3 times. I'm a Mithra THF 20 main and War sub. I don't have the map for this area but finally I found it and there was only one other player camping. I must say that it spawed 3 times a night!! Don't have the time in mind but it was between 21:00-23:00, then from 0:00-2:00 and finally exactly at 4:00. I got it 2 times with provoke and the other guy fought it one time. No drops at all. For me it was easy pray, I killed it without any problems. So I hope I will get this mantle coze I need the money. Good luck everyone...

I have to agree with you I own NM's like the JP's do. Its all technique for the particular NM you are hunting. Each one requires a variation to your strategy while camping. Some NM's cant be hunted with Widescan if you want a chance to get it others almost require it. Also when scanning proper location will help you increase your odds. As far as the Voke or Chi Blast spawns that is a method in which takes practice and timing otherwise carpal tunnel will come quick from spamming it. Ok my stupid little squawk for the morning is done.

Take this IP for instance... 65.75.136.112 If you go to your start menu, then run, then type in cmd, then type ping 65.75.136.112 Youll be given something that lists your ping time, or ms. (milliseconds per ping) I average 84 to that IP. It is located in california. Now say someone else who may live in cali pings about 14. If we both issued a command to the server box, he WOULD get the first return by 70ms over me.
How this relates to FFXI is the same oncept, except, it IS milliseconds. :) so its still POSSIBLE to steal something from a JP. Yes they have a bit of an advantage with that, but its not so big an advantage to be used as an excused for not getting your monster.

I am on the Bahamut Server and I Camped Spook, I didn't run into these Huge Problems Like JP Players Getting it before you. Everyone has a Equal Chance in getting Spook. Some may be better then you at it like on Bahamut A Player Named "Windspirit" Is the best I have seen, b/c she Practices.
Even if they are Higher LVs then you does not mean they have a bigger Chance Of getting spook, So everyone just get along and Camp Spook Withought getting mad at a more Skilled Player then you.

Maybe its just there have the skill to snach it fast
I went to the tomb looking for the revival root for quest and bumped into another Warrior. At first we were the only 2 there - then it turned into Christmas shopping at Walmart. No problem - we teamed up and all those Japanese thieves couldn't compete with 2 War provoking. 3 kills no mantle 2 revival roots. We both completed our quests but shall return to get that mantle. Hence, what is the drop rate for this mantle? I could use the cash.
lil late but just saw this.... thats stupid to say 2 wars can out voke a player.. maybe on angles to see spook but never quantity. lol. it depends on speed. i out voke JP players all the time. they out voke me too. its speed and thats it. dont make dumb excuses poor people

well I hate to say this but yes there is a bit of a lag as far as spawns go. I know this to be a fact as I have two accounts. One on PS2 and the other on PC. There are many times when I'm Power Leveling myself mobs spawn on my PS2 a full Second before it spawns on my PC.

Since I'm not certain where the servers are located then I can't say for sure that mobs spawn sooner or later for Japanses players.
But just on my own two systems and accounts I've noticed latency and lag.
If the servers where located in Japan, I think it would be logical to assume they have the faster connection. If that were true then they would have to see the mob before NA players.
I'm not saying this to complain. But just adding this in from my own experiences playing two characters at the same time on the same server.

I get many of these...but I miss a lot of the spawns...these go for abaout 25k per on Bahamut now, and is my best gil-maker yet. I just log back on every 45 min-1 hour to camp again.

it doesn't actually work
i was camping this for 6 hours...killed spook all times except twice, once because i couldn't see it to voke it, and the other because a skel was closer... there were about 12 ppl there the times i got it, and at most just 1 lvl 42 "expert" samurai that didn't get the spook one time. i'm only lvl 26, he called it noob luck, but i'm sorry 16/18 times is not luck in my book.

I read this forum and all the complaints, and that I had zero chance of getting this item, but I was determined and I went there anyways. I don't have voke or spells (lvl 14 mithra monk), but I really wanted it for pulling (I'm trying to find as many +evasion items as possible so I'd dont get beaten up so badly by those snippers...hehe). On cue at 20:00, high lvl wars would show up and voke before I could get my first hit on it. But this camper wasn't very smart; he didn't know there were 2 spawns each night... =P I got the mantle in the first try on the second night out there, now I'm a very happy monk!
I don't care much for people who camp items when there are ppl there who actually need to use them, but it's their right to do so. I tried to work something out with this camper but he didn't want to share spawns...that's ok too.
BTW, second spawn was somewhere between 00:00 and 02:00. After 04:00, you'll have to wait for the 20:00 one again. I'm sorry I don't have a more precise time for you guys who really need this item...hopefully this will help someone out there. It's only like a 20min wait for it to turn back to night, it's really not that bad compared to some Everquest camps I can remember... but I'm sure the respawn times will be much longer as the game progresses =)
Remember it's a game, everyone! If a low lvl shows up who really wants a spawn with a good item they could really use when you already have gotten 10 of those items, let him have one or share spawns. Odds are it'll kill them anyways, then your problem would be solved... =P But again, everyone has the right to camp whatever they want for as long as they want. It's just not a very friendly thing to do when others are there for motives not related to greed. =)
A warning to other new players, I had a very hard time killing this thing, had to use my 2hr and 2 combos to kill it! I was using a +4/+60 h2h wep (brass bags), a couple other items with evasion and a couple str boosting items. I didn't have any buffs or anything... I'd reccomend ppl who need this item to come back with a war sub to voke with once you hit lvl 18...I got lucky, but I'm sure there are smarter campers out on other servers. I did come close to being killed by this thing... There'd be nothing worse than a low lvl finally getting the spawn they wanted and being killed by it!!! So be careful, be safe, and be prepared.
There was also a lvl 9 warrior there who really wanted the Revival Tree Root (a quest that I was also working on), so I decided to give it to him even though I needed it. A friend of mine gave me one later in the day after I told him about this, so it all worked out great in the end. =)
I also had a very nice Galkan friend who got me the battle gloves deeper in the second caves of the Tomb, so I was extremely happy yesterday with two great new items. =)
I've only been playing this game for 4 days, but I played Everquest for a couple years and I'm very familiar with farmers and campers. Just remember it's a game and try to make it as pleasant an experience as possible for everyone. If you're a nice person and ask nicely, someone may just end up sharing with you, or just giving yout the item you want. =) While this camper wouldn't share any of the spawns after a couple game nights out there, maybe some others will be more generous.
The camper didn't believe I had gotten it, he was certain they only spawned once a night... said I was just a 'sore loser' and that I was making it up. =P

There was one WAR camping there, and at the time I thought the Spook just dropped the root and I didn't realize it was so cheap, so I was slightly sour. But there were two Mithra there who were about LV9, and they were teamed up and they were waiting just to get the root. One of them had it already, and the other needed hers. They were all there before me, but the WAR was kind of a jerk. So I sent them a /tell asking if they needed the root... they said yes.
So I had them let me join their party (I was probably 25 or so, but being from Windy I was just trying to get this quest done). The second the Spook popped, I cast Dia and slaughtered it. The root dropped, I handed it over, and the two Mithra left happily after thanking me. I figured next would be my turn so I chilled there and waited.
3 more campers showed up and I'm not the slickest NM camper, so when another high-level showed up and informed me that the root was so cheap, I was willing to just go buy it and get out of everybody's hair. But that high-level seemed interested in me, so she took me to King Ranperre's Tomb and sneak/invised me to show me chests and teach me the ropes of chest hunting. It was a brief but fun little lesson but I appreciated her kindness.
If only other campers were this nice. ^^ So if you're camping the Spook and someone is camping and low level, PLEASE ask if they need the root and just give it to them. If you're ready to wear or sell the mantle, chances are you don't need the root anyway. What's wrong with getting them out of the way so they don't interrupt your voking? ^^ You're just gonna throw the root away anyhow. So be cool and pass the root on to somebody who needs it so you can get back to your Mantle hunting. :9

Except that most people still don't realize 2 things about the Revival Tree Root:
1. It's dirt cheap in the AH.
2. It drops off many many many more mobs than just Spook. In fact, there are tons of undead type mobs the Root can drop off.

About it being unfair to camp these things just for money: Have you actually seen the prices of gear when you're at higher lvls? That money goes towards being the best equipped for your job, not just greed. As a RDM, I have a lot of EXPENSIVE spells to buy, Dispel, Phalanx, Stoneskin, and a few others, so the money I'd get from camping these NM drops goes towards making me the best darn RDM I can be.
Just wanted to share that so people don't get the wrong idea about high lvls camping...It's sometimes neccesary to be able to equip yourself at higher lvls. Would YOU want a tank with armor that's 10 lvls lower than his/her current lvl, because he couldn't afford it? I think not.

My personal best was using Shiva on a 2h farming (was getting ready to log out for the evening). Anyways shiva got a nice chain of yagudo and I went 2h and started to use diamond dust... just as I did Whirlwind popped and died from the 2h. .... welll shiva had to beat on him a bit still, but you get the picture.. I wasnt even aiming to get whirlwind and I did... no drop like usual... ><
as for the the jerk you need to take your own advice and grow up. This game is worst on camping from what I have seen in the past games that I played, and that includes Earth and Beyond (moment of silence please). People get upset and post their anger here. If you dont like reading it maybe u should look up another site for your information.

On a personal note, I'm in the US and can out-provoke high level JPs.. so it's not impossible people. It's about fast fingers and watchful eyes. Some of us have them.. some of you don't. ^^

I was hunting the spook after these JP fools were hunting it and not even giving me a chance to kill it once. So when they left, it appeared and I killed it. It dropped the Travelers Mantle AND the root I needed for the quest in Sando. Now I'm trying to sell it for 24k on the AH...crazy that it sells for that price. If you want it I'm currently in Kazham area on Caitsith.

Either im lucky or lots of ppl are unlucky i was at the tomb to do a quest, saw the thing killed it and got it :)
