these things cost me 120k in Seraph windurst. they;re the best rings any mage can buy (if your lookin to raise your MP which every mage should)i've had these since level 15, and they work wonders, especially for tarus

Not really, I've known some Taru BLM/WHM with lots of mp, and you know what? they cant even burn it all during the battle and if they try to do it they tend to steal hate from the tanker, not to mention they will have to wait too much time to regain all that mp.

You can never have too much MP. Even a Summoner Tarutaru could use more. More MP = less down time if you know what you're doing. Heal while the puller pulls, heal while waiting for mobs to spawn, use food, Refresh, etc, whatever tactics you need to keep your MP as high as possible for as long as possible without having to say, Sorry, I'm out of MP, let me rest. You said "They can't even burn it all during the battle..." It's not about the battle, it's about the battleS, plural, multiple, many. You must think about chaining mobs and creating as little downtime as possible for the best EXP possible.

Refinanced the Mog house to pay for this one >.<

Well, I emptied the bank account that is, 180k on Slyph about 1 hour ago. I remember talking to a ls friend a couple weeks ago and he said, they sell for 135k....Damn inflation!!! Oh well, if people don't undercut AH, I'll get a return on it, if I need to sell it. I figure its a good investment, nothing similar til lvl 40 and being hume, can't complain about more mana. Once I've burned up the MP, I can equip change to +INT gear. If nothing else, it will be worth it for the reactions when people /check a lvl 13 hume BLM with no sub, sporting the bling bling ^^.
I got a good deal

A clear explaination needed?
# Jun 21 2004 at 9:05 AM Rating: Decent
I plan on buying one of these rings for may paladin, but before that i need to know if the ring takes 25HP (as if a creature hit you and can be healed ) or takes 25 HP off of your total HP. i.e. can i use the ring, get 25 MP then cure myself to cover for the loss?

It takes 25 off your max HP and adds 25 to your max MP. Hairpins are other equips that do similar.

It's oddly worded on this page; "convert" can be too easily compared with the RDM ability. It's just -25 HP, +25MP. :)

actually, its not the same as +/-, cause if you don't have 25 hp to convert, you won't get 25mp

Well, tho my WAR is lvl 30, and i dont like PLD's, i decided to sub WHM for soloing and farming. It wasnt till later that i discovered that by subbing magic class, mp is also cut by 1/2 >.< Buying 2 astral rings is outta the q. for me, but i hear that 150k at lvl 40's is aprox. the equivalent of 70k at lvl 30's. Is this true? (By this i mean that at lvl 40 u get 150k with same difficulty that u get 70k at lvl 30)

This ring is great for Bards!
I just bought this for my Lv.10 Bard and it rocks.
It's very worth the 180,000 gil I spent on it.

Yeah, that 50MP can save your party's *** if you're a black mage. It can give you the MP for that one last spell you need. Not to mention if you're galka and HAVE NO MP!

No item in this game is useless.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 10 2004 at 5:39 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Fraink I dont see the use for Astral Rings on a char.

Useless?
/scoff

These are always useful for an elvaan mage or a galkan... or really anybody. 50mp is 50mp. Starting at lvl 10 these own. I mean, you decide to lvl your whm or blm or smn and you automatically have 50 more mp than most of the people the you will be competing with for group space and helping your group get way more mp. At the higher lvls it's the same difference. 50mp could mean the difference between life and death. It's all in your opinion and how you play though. Useless for you but super valuable to someone else. Oh well though. That's just 2 astrals someone else can buy.
RE: This whole Problem...
# May 15 2004 at 2:22 PM Rating: Decent
If your a level 10 Elvaan WHM I think this doubles your MP... so what's with everyone saying it's useless?
Um.... what other item untill level 51 gives 25 mp in the finger slot.... and even if you have that one level 51 item... what other item would you put in that slot that give mp? Fact of the matter is even 300k would be worth it.
If you can't afford it then don't complain about it. Just wait till you are at a level which you can afford it. (or steal it from the chest)^^
1 Empror Hairpin converted into 2 Astral rings + cash =)
# Mar 29 2004 at 3:26 PM Rating: Default
Anyone who has 10-24 hours on hand can easily get 2 astral rings without going through the trouble of crafting or treusre chests... The Emporers Hairpin sells for about 300K on my server and astrals for about 100-125K each...

Thats about 50-100K left over after you kill the SOb And get the hairpin drop =)

the only problem now is finding a THF if u arnt one willing to help you for free... (can be avoided by giving the extra 50K or by hunting 2 hairpins)

#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 28 2004 at 6:44 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok, obviously this issue has been beaten to death and I will not dispute its worth either way, but why do some items have + hps, - mps and this one says converts hp to mana.
RE: Why does it say convert?
# Mar 29 2004 at 1:33 PM Rating: Excellent
The difference between "convert" and "+/-" is that to "convert" say, mana to health, you have to have mana to "convert".

If your character has 0 mana, you will gain 0 health. Yet, if an item gives "+" to health and "-" to mana, you will still gain health even if you have 0 mana.

So theoretically, if an Astral Ring was used on a character with 20 HP, I beleive that they would only gain 19 MP and still have 1 HP. If the ring were "+/-", the same character would instead have 25 MP and 1 HP, because it isn't converting HP to MP, it is just "adding" MP, and "subtracting" HP.

I learned this when I tried to wear a "Physical Earring" on my lvl 20 Warrior. It game me no extra HP because I had no MP to "convert". So I went and bought two "Shield Earrings" instead and got +20 HP. I also gained no negative effects from the -20MP because of course, I had no mana.
worth?
# Mar 22 2004 at 12:14 PM Rating: Decent
For those who can't see the benefit to these rings.

1 Astral Ring = -25 hp +25 mp
2 Astarl Rings = -50 hp +50 mp
+50 mp = 1 Cure III
1 Cure III = 180 hp
180 hp = 130 hp more than you started with.

Well, ya, that is true that it isnt wise to put this on til you have some good HP to convert. Of course, once you get the RSE, you could equip that and use the HP bonuses there. just the pants and the body would get you 46, then you only gotta take an extra four off :P

Can anyone confirm this :
1. converts 25hp to Mp = -25hp +25mp ?

or
2. you use it, you lost 25 hp from current and added 25 mp to current mana?

If the first version the truth, the it is absolut overrated, why should spend over 100k gil, if i can buy +20mana item much cheaper?
Really confused, because item description shoulda say: -25hp +25MP, instead of convert...
prices...craftability
# Feb 24 2004 at 10:06 AM Rating: Excellent
If it is craftable, the recipe will eventually hit the public's hands...don't expect the price to drop much, just really expect the material's price to raise alot.

125k isn't much, well worth buying to save yourself a painful venture of getting it on your own.

wait until you have enough hp to afford chopping 50hp off. if you're taru whm like myself, it isnt until probably at least 25+ or better 30+ before you equip one, let alone two. its not until around 30+ you get pld in party often enough to be short hp. cause with pld tank you wont lose hp so you can get away with low hp and equip two rings. you probably can't afford two rings until 30-40 anyway, so works out well.

just what i found, could be different for eveyrone else.
