If you use the RDM ability ''convert'' while you wear let's say 1 Astral Ring and you hv 600hp 300mp(without the ring)... Will it become 325hp-575mp or 275hp-625mp???
without an astral ring, you put one on and you suddenly have:
575 HP 325 MP
Now say that, with full HP and MP, you decided to use convert. Instantly you would end up with:
325/575 HP 325/325 MP
Convert doesn't increase your maximum MP pool, nor does it decrease your maximum HP pool. All it acts as is a once-per-10-minute refill of your MP pool using your HP.
okay, i dont know if this bothers anyone else, but i hate it when you get a n00b in your pt (and i do mean a noobs, not just an alternate char) that has gone and bought their money. im not saying that theres something wrong with the buying of gil, just that they need to learn the value of gil, and learn how to make their own gil early on, not to mention HOW TO PLAY before theyre "bling-blingin"... i can understand that once you get to be hl, how 500k can disappear in about 3 min (no f*ing joke to those who dont believe it) and that you sometimes need that extra gil for the new stuff so you can go farm decent mobs and stuff...
anyway... enough rambling~
Oic (short for Oicuro, not "oh i see" =p ) drg (a rather dead job... or maybe im just not willing to wait for a pt for 7h to only get a couple k exp =/ at lvl 52 that is)
whats wrong with buying gil with real $$? if thats the path they choose to go, who are you to say its wrong or bad? this is a rpg afterall.
suppose i ask a friend to play FFXI and i give him 500k to start out for free. he is a noob but a well-equiped noob, would that be better? what would be the difference?
Not to mention Gil selling and buying is against the PlayOnline/Final Fantasy XI Terms of Service and is grounds for suspention and/or permanent deletion of your character...

Posted:Sep 15 2004 at 4:27 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) hello-wello! i am a "noob" to ffxi and i bought 500k off the internet, yet i still have 300k+ left and i'm making quite alot of my own gil through ah. i dont need to learn anything from you obviously thank you. ***! i soloed to level 10 in 2 days earth time, im sure thats not a big deal to someone whos a veteran gamer, but like i said im a "noob" to ffxi and made it without any outside help. have a tarufic day
your a jackass you @#%^ing gil buyer, play the game like the rest of us.
eat a bowl of **** you waste of precum i play this game like everyone else i even farm gil and items!... what a concept i know! learn to take a little sarcasm once in a while. and if someone were to buy gil i wouldnt put them down thats their choice infact with the overpriced crap on Titan and other servers, who cares the economy is bad and it aint getting better unless you greedy people change it. 300-800% price jacking just because it has a little dot that says rare wtf people thats bs
did anyone think that maybe these noobs that you are refering to are actually just someones mule.... i play my mule and when i do i buy the best armor for it so i do well.. but really i don't play war very well since i am whm.... i feal naked without my mp T_T..... but people have thought i was a noob... and really i was to that job.... but i was well equiped... lvl 56 whm is my main
buying gill isn't that bad... what is bad is the people selling the gil -.- they take all the NMs, farming spots, mining spots, harvesting, do bcnm of the wall, and all the time say nothign to you.... and stand in packs of 100 fishing out side windurst on seraph with the best gear possible O_O...... they anoy me.... not the people that buy it... hey if you have the money do what you liek with it some people don't have the time to spend hours farming up the gil needed to buy those expensive items or support their beloved ninja or rng.... why not do whatever you can to be able to keep the job you like the most.
Oic is just generalizing, though I've never seen well equipped newbs. Most of them are so underequipped it's not funny anymore, or chosen a a sub that contributes absolutely nothing to a party. But really, your experiences 1-10 are quite different from the rest of the game. It is one thing to solo effectively, it is quite another to work with 5 other individuals for maximum xp gain. I am not saying you can't. I don't know you. But there are far too many out there that can't and seem to have no desire to learn. You will understand when you reach Valkurm Dunes and be forced to party with people that don't understand their jobs and just leech of the rest of the party. You will come to dread leveling your subs because you will eventually be forced to travel to the dunes. WHM 19... time for Qufim...finally...
There are a group of gilfarmers on my server that are now camping the Kotes in Castle Oztroja. It seems only a matter of time before they're able to extend into the coffers. It's unfortunate that I may soon be spending the bulk of my gaming fighting for my AF because these rings come out of the same coffer.
If there's anyone else with this kind of problem that's been able to overcome it, please post.
Can anyone explain how to get these rings in detail? What mob drops the keys? Where the coffers are? What lvl would you guys recommend could handle camping for these rings?
I have really fought hard over whether or not these are useful to a black mage.
After CAREFUL consideration, it would appear that they are useful from about level 10 to about level 35 where your MP base starts to become much larger. After which, the ACCURACY GAINED from +3INT is worth FAR MORE in efficiency than the meager 25 MP the astral ring would give you.
I'm going to break this down for you, because right now many people aren't going to get this.
Sometimes your spells will "miss". Now I know you may be thinking to yourself, "My spells never miss, they always hit the target, this guy is an idiot" but if you look at the actual damage from the spells, you will see that sometimes water III will hit for 400 damage, and others 200, 100, or even 50 (or 25). This is all determined by how ACCURATE your spell is.
Now, What normally determines black mage spell accuracy? Yes, that's right INT. So, while +25 MP is nice, Water III takes like 98 MP. For the sake of this argument let's say 100 MP.
Now, for half of that 100 MP, let's put on TWO of these Astral rings. 100 MP was getting you 400 damage, so the astral rings are worth an additional 200 damage from this math. (again, i'm sure that other spell combinations are different, just follow along for the example).
Assuming you spent the same amount of money, you could have +6 INT from two wisdom ring+1's. You may be thinking.. so what? +6 int, how do we measure THAT?!
Well, I went out and just flat tried both methods.
With 2 astral rings on, my average damage on the same mob, in the same area, at the same level and elemental skill, my damage AVERAGE for water III was 216 after 50 casts.
With 2 Wisdom Ring+1's on, my average damage on the same mob as above, in the same area, at same level and elemental skill as above, my damage AVERAGE for water III was 328~ after 50 casts.
Now, if you take into account that with the wisdom rings on and 400 MP you could cast this spell 4 times. (or others) even if the astral rings gave you 100 MP you could cast it 5 times.
this would give you an effective damage value of (4*328=)1312 with the wisdom rings on, and (even adding an EXTRA 50 MP to the 2 astral rings 50) (5*216=)1080 with the two astral rings on.
Add to this the fact that Your enfeebling and dark magic will also hit harder and stick longer and better... well it just seems the obvious choice. Also, the more MP you have, the more EFFICIENT it is to have more INT.
So the next time someone tells me that astral rings are better than my wisdom ring+1's, think again.
I do however admit that there is a certain point where this becomes more feasable. For instance, for someone with only 100 MP, it would obviously be more efficient for them to have 50 more MP versus +6 INT. There is definately a breakaway point somewhere.
Also, if you're doing certain things that don't require accuracy, perhaps.. warping an alliance.. It may pay to have these laying around in your inventory. I'm not saying they are useless after all. In fact, I think they are invaluable to WHM at almost any level. I'm just commenting on BLM :)
Well said. This is also referenced by the wording of Elemental Seal. Which is why, as a 58RDM/29BLM my Aspir macro starts off attempting to use that. Makes a big difference spending 10mp to get 70-80mp instead of 1-9. Although I admit I have been using Electrum Rings instead of INT+ rings, next time I'm on I'll go switch that.
Your best bet with electrum rings is to equip them in your convert macro. Once you've spent the extra 40 mp they gave you, you can hit a +Int macro to requip the int rings. I can't tell if you have any +mnd gear, but if you don't you may also want to add a +mnd macro for sticking your mnd based enfeebles like Slow and Paralyze. I didn't really realize the full potential of this until last night. When we started I still has melee gear on because it had been awhile since I last partied. Nothing was sticking at all. Finally hit my +mnd macro, better, but still not as good as I'm used too. Realize I'm still wearing my sword, the macro was broken because I had switched from Chestnut to Solid. After equipping wand for another +5mnd/int, everything is sticking nicely.
ok, first of all, as a disclaimer i would like to let you know that i have been playing since January so I AM NOT A NOOB. however, i am poor and jealous of all you rich folk who can afford these things en masse....
the question is this: ok, now the astral ring converts 25 HP to 25 MP. so if you were to, by chance, to have less than 50 HP at level 10 (that would be sad if it were actually possible) and you were to equip both rings simultaneously, would you KO on the spot or would the game crash or something? (possible invincibility to death perhaps?!)
There is a way to test it. Bring a level 10 mage to Beaudeaux, let him approach a Curse machine (sneak will not fade), let him use Instant Warp Scroll or Warp II, and then equip 2 rings.
But I'm pretty sure you will not be able to go below level 1 HP, or a preset minimum. They rings would not be lvl 10 if it was possible. (Or you will keep dying until you unding to lvl 9, upon which the rings are removed ;))
hehe will do. now to raise 300k to buy them then find some one dumb enough not to know how much they cost and can trust this guinea pig to give the rings back when finished... hmm asi******? still have your summoner lying around? i need your help again!
============Greetings from Unicorn!=================
Currently farming like mad, Mjoo watch out! i'm coming for you!
I agree that they are good but seeing as I'm poor from my spells and lvl 40... 9k for electrum rings is a better deal for me. With those + my hume RSE i get like 100 extra mp
it doesnt matter what race you are for being a whm, at least before lvl 38-39, when you can start pting with rdms and refresh (god how i love refresh ^^* ) aaaaanyway... if you ARE a galka whm, and can get to that lvl, i congratulate you.
ps. ...a galka whm in full af is a scary sight... just to let you know... too much white or something...
As a Galka Whm is there really a choice ? Without those rings you would be as pointless as a Galka White mage to a party.....hmmmm did i just say that out loud?

I bought my rings along time ago for 160k on rahum... then i read theys posts today and see that they are selling for 250k on rahum now... happy thats a pritty good investment :P 500-320=180k profit.. good good good for me.
omg, this is not dropped off a mob, and Serket drops SERKET rings, which convert 50 HP to MP. THESE are picked from a coffer, and extremely hard to pick on that note.
Whoops, sorry about that last post =^^=. Ok, let's see. I'm a 25brd/12whm Mithra wondering if I need the astral rings to support my subjob. I don't get much MP to use, and I find that like it or not I have to become the backup healer for my static PLD friend. Here in Phonix these buggers are too expensive for my tastes, but should I try and get them?

As a Galkan Pld this astral ring is my most useful item. Unfortunatly I can only afford 1 but with my RSE gloves thats all I need to have enough mp to hold hate well. It was alot of work getting the gil, but very worth it!! I had to pay 168k on Phoenix server -_-
