Den coffer

If it's in Den of Rancor coffer, it shouldn't make it that much harder. Den coffer is fairly easy to find, spawn points aren't too far apart and there are no locked doors or anything.
The harder part would be getting there (defeat Temple Guardian and paint painting), also you'll need sneak in addition to invis while camping. This means thfs might need to sub whm or rdm instead of NIN.

I think it's a good idea to change Astrals from oztroja to den, since no AF pieces are obtain from Den's coffer. This way all the RDMs, DRKs and BRDs don't have to suffer hours of coffer competition.

Ok im hereing reports that this is now found in Rancor's Den. Can anyone confirm this or, hopefully, shoot this theory down? B/c if wouldnt that make it HARDER to get. The only thing I can think of is SE has created another similar item that is easier to get.

you leveled thf... just to get astral rings from oztroja coffers...
wow.
in the time that you take to level thf to a reasonable lvl to actualy camp these coffers (somewhere between 50 and 60), you could just have easily farmed the money for the rings. SE did not waste your time, you wasted your time lvling thf with poor motives.

How else would you feel confident that you aren't giving money to gil sellers. Besides Getting THF to 50 is much easier for me than farming for 400-600k worth of gil (not to mention faster too). I don't know about you but we mages don't have a whole lot in the way of get rich quick schemes (Aside from crafting if you have money to begin with and Fishing if you have a slew of time on your hands).

According to what SE said about the new update, this ring will no longer be in the Castle Oztroja Coffer (or at least, there will be other items in the coffer which will probably come up more often). It looks like there is going to be a quest for this ring. I'm excited ^^

From Updates Page on POL:
"The contents of the treasure coffers in Castle Oztroja have been changed. Accordingly, certain items will now be obtainable through different methods."
Astral Ring Rates Changed - Or just greedy people?

No more than 2 months ago I bought an astral for someone for 140k (they were in Rabao doing the padded cap trick before it was nerfed, I think it was the day before even o.O)
A week ago they were 240k, that was more gradual, but now today I look at the price... It's up to 330k...
Anyone else been experiencing major price fluxuations!?
100k in a month or so isn't bad, but 90k in less than a week... It's suspicious...
Did the change the rates that you get astrals from coffers or something - or are people just as greedy as ever?

Every day, there seem to be more and more rings going on sale at the Auction House... And for some odd reason, as the stock increases, the price also increases... So Buying two right now would probably make you some money in the future, if this trend continues...

220k on Shiva and most likely rising...

Actually, I wouldn't recommend buying 2 astral rings right now. If you go to the Playonline main site and look at the list of things listed to be changed after the Dec. 9 update, one of them says:

The contents of the treasure coffers in Castle Oztroja have been changed. Accordingly, certain items will now be obtainable through different methods.

I'm not certain about this but it could be possible that SE made it so Oztroja Coffer will no longer drop Astral Rings in order to deter high level Thfs from camping these coffers (as many jobs require these coffers for their AF and have been complaining to SE about this issue for a while). And if that's true, it's also possible that Astrals will be obtainable through crafting after the update. Anyway, just wait and see.

I was in a party today as a level 46 THF/NIN. The party range was 46-48 and we had a well ballanced party. (RDM,PLD,BLM,WHM,RNG, and me) We start off by going to quicksand caves, we all got teleport from whm and at 1st no one noticed the RNG was acting very n00bish. Asking frequent questions about what we were going to kill and how to get there are fine questions, but when u don't know how to fire a single arrow to pull...>< I asked this 37 RNG/NIN (well equipped with winged boots and hairpin) when he started playing, the reply was "I just started playing last night, i bought this account from a friend's friend." Now, why do you think its ok to buy accounts for the game? It wasted tons of time to help this person figure out the easiest questions, when they should start at the begining with little question marks on thier heads.

I'm just wondering what lvl I should be to get this ring successfully with a low risk of dying. Also what mainly drops this ring anyways I'm confused.

I wish our Astral rings were around 200k you guys are lucky.
One Astral Ring on Diabolos varies from 350-450k each. Mainly there are just a bunch of greedy people on our server. And I want to lvl WHM but before I do I want two of these rings

I'm on Diabolos and JUST got mine for 220k each about a week ago in Jeuno. I'm a taru bard/whm and put them on as soon as I hit ten. I have somewhat of a good static PT, so I don't usually die, I actually die LESS than when I leveled around my whm at this level w/o them!

It's funny having more MP then the mages in the PT with my whm sub, but I make a very good back up healer, and if I do get hit, I can ALWAYS cure right away and not have to worry about dying. If you're quick w/ your cures and are in a good PT, I think you can wear these at lvl 10 w/o much difficulty. The extra mp really helps with chains.
Intended use
# Nov 16 2004 at 4:40 PM Rating: Decent
As intended, these rings can be useful to a certain level, for certain jobs, but finding other than intended uses, adds to the game, and the usefulness of the item...

As a 31drk I use these rings for drain. Drk has a hard time gaining hate at the beginning of the fight if there is a rng pulling and pld provoking. So I use the mana for enfeebling and raising drk magic that the rings provide, then swap them out with my balance rings which drops my hp 50.

This gives me the chance to drain twice on one npc, 2 chances to raise drk magic, and use my bloody bolts.

When mana is not full, removing them will subtract from your total mp, not existing mp...

And yes I know I am a crazy taru drk who self inflicts damage during fights :P

I've been saving up for one astral ring for my Galka paladin. I refuse to level any further past level 10 or 11 before I get my first astral ring, then I will try to get my second one, maybe, in my mid twenties. So far I've made 100k and hopefully, I'll only need to make another 70k or 80k to buy it.

My first (and a rarity) post. Yes, this post contains flaming, notes of irony, drama, and comedy. By all means, if any of the above has the slightest potential to offend you, feel free. This may be posted in the wrong section; I don't care. I see this post, and about half of it is about the topic at hand, so I choose to respond here. Now that my disclaimer is done, I'll proceed.

The topic: Gil Selling/Buying

As an unbiast approach to this (as unbiast as I can be) I'll point out irony from both sides of the arguement. I see a lot of people saying "Play the game like the rest of us!"......How does them buying or selling gil afflict the fact of them playing the game? Infact, it can severely increase their chance of success at becoming a relativly decent player.

"I don't dislike the people who buy it. I dislike the people who sell it.".....It takes two to tango, so they say. Without people buying it; people wouldn't sell it.

"eat a bowl of @#%^ you waste of precum i play this game like everyone else i even farm gil and items!".....Okay. I must admit, this one made me snicker a bit. How immature and utterly pathetic can you be to feel the urge to throw childish insults into a debate?

"Not to mention Gil selling and buying is against the PlayOnline/Final Fantasy XI Terms of Service and is grounds for suspention and/or permanent deletion of your character..." .....Ding ding ding!!! We have a winner! The only VALID Anti-gil buying/selling comment on the entire thread. Congrats! In theory though, lets say Square-Enix and ohhh I don't know, the biggest distrubitor of gil for FF, IGE, have some sort of an agreement? A percentage of sales perhaps? Research I'm sure would prove quite interesting into this matter.

" im not saying that theres something wrong with the buying of gil, just that they need to learn the value of gil, and learn how to make their own gil early on"....Not really. If they buy their gil, theres no reason for them to learn how to make their own, now is there? They can just buy more.

In short...Everyone has their own opinions on every matter at hand, you can insult and flame people all you want for it; that wont change their opinion nor make you right. With acception of the one comment in which I pointed out, this entire portion of the thread based around gil selling/buying was opinion based, and I for one am sick and tired of seeing people tell other people how to play. We all play for the same reason, we just have different methods. Deal with it.

A valid observation (and by the way, it's unbiased, not unbiast) but you fail to recognize the monopoly gil sellers have over the economy by using botters and farming parties that utilize tactics such as PKing to ensure that other farmers won't affect their gil intake.

Gil selling/buying is not inately harmful. Say someone goes and raises 3 million by farming/camping NMs, and they need a little extra cash so they sell it to another player. Now, aside from the fact that it is against the POL agreement, there's no harm in substituting labor for cash.

Now let's say that one person controls six players through the use of bots, and occupies a certain area known for its lucrative drops and farms for hours on end. Someone shows up and starts taking a few mobs, either to farm or to XP, they get angry and PK them with a train of aggressive/linking monsters, thereby monopolizing a single zone. And there isn't just one team, on our server...I could point out four or five at least.

Or a single character using THF tools to pop coffers to get a pricy drop (think: Oztroja and astrals, pre update). People come to farm the coffer mobs for AF, or for skill, and since the THF knows they might be popping their coffer later on...trains 10-20 yagudo on them. Not only are they keeping other THF from getting a fair shot at the coffers, but now people just wanting their AF fall pray.

As far as Oztroja goes, that problem has been "fixed", but it still shows the problems with gil selling/buying.

Gil sellers usually have much more money than most players could ever dream of. They can use that money to buy up all of a particular item (Raise III, for instance) and artifically inflate the price and manipulate the economy. People then have to shell out more gil to buy the things they need...or they could buy the gil and get it faster. So they buy gil to get an item that's been inflated, that gil goes back to the gil sellers for the next victim--I mean, customer.

So let's recap. Gill Sellers:
1. Monopolize mobs and zones
2. Monopolize AF coffers
3. Monopolize items
4. PK players

That's not just about different ways of playing. It's about manipulating a game and people who play a game to make a real life profit. If someone wants to buy gil to buy themselves an astral ring while I farm for it, that's their choice and my choice. In that instance its about time, how much time we're both willing to put into the game to arrive at the same point. When their gil buying supports the gil selling that keeps me from farming for my items, it definitely affects me. It keeps me from enjoying the game.

It's not about equal opportunity. Gil sellers have resources that normal players don't. They have bots, alternate accounts, and millions in gil to support their monopolies. Should I have to "deal with it" when they're keeping me and others from enjoying the game as a game, instead of as a career? I don't think so.

Types of Noobs
# Nov 02 2004 at 6:41 PM Rating: Good
Ok... an intresting evolution of subject when looking up the astral ring but here we go. People who generalize suck because they cannot realize that there are different kinds of noobs, and that not all new players are noobs. The difference is there willingness to learn and their stubborness. A New player will ask what they should pull because they do not know a Noob will say something like "Wel guys since im a Theif and can't do much damage im going to steal from this other Gob..." sadly people on Seraph have done and said this. And as far as the buying of gil... just understand that it's cheating by using an aspect other then natural skill to propel your charecters. Selling gil? i am 100% for it, as far as people taking the best farming spots to attain this gil, you must realize that these people are jackasses before they log-on so looking down on the nice people who want to make real $$ playing video-games is just unsportsmanlike. If you want to play a Ranger or a Ninja you should beaware of the commitment needed and hopefully not cheat to be these prestige classes. If you guys want to know the true wrath of cheating look up the player by the name of Zero(i think) on star wars galaxy. Knowing him personally he cheats at everything he has ever done.

Bought these for 2 reason, you can equip at 10 and not 40, the price of these keeps going up on fairy. When I started playing they were around 150k, they're now regularly going for 250k a few months later. So I figure at the very least I can resell for puchase price (about 450k for the pair), in addition it means that that gil is locked up and I'm not going to waste it :D

when my blm and smn get higher, and whm passes 40 going to resell and buy electrum and suck up the 10mp loss, I think 10mp for 500k is a fair trade :)

RE: Picking Coffers

Yeah you can pick them, but your chances of mimics will be extreme. It's not worth the time it would take you to find the coffer - cost of shinobi-tabi - cost of keys - cost of experience points if you die - cost of conquest points / warp cudgel for warp if you mimic.

Wait until at least 58 if you want to farm coffers I've found.

it makes a lot of sense to not spend 200k(approx) on this ring and buy yourself 2 electums totaling out to 40 MP >AND< you get to keep your HP.

but thats just my opinion...plus as being a whm that is 50 more HP to convert to MP anyways so its kinda like double dipping :P
