a cheap way to get to skill 7

I got up to skill level 7 making copper ingots then making copper hair pins. I just bought a ton of fire crystals and wind crystals and went to the merchant in port bastok that is next to the airship. you have to pay to get into the airship boarding area but he sells unlimited amounts of copper ores for around 10 gil depending on fame and he never closes. So just get lots of crystals and hang out by the airship for a while.

Bronze and Copper
# Dec 19 2007 at 8:40 AM Rating: Decent
I spent hours in Zerun mines makeing these when I was lving smithing and Goldsmithing.

If I mined up 4 copper ores I made a Copper Ingot. But I I mined up a Tin Ore while minning up the Copper I made a Bronze Ingot.

But I mostly mined up Iron which is good for gil but bad for Synth since I am like 15 lvs to low to make them

Didn't get any HQ2/3s, so I couldn't tell you how many they return.

Yup, I made a load of these by desynthing yagudo necklaces while farming and harvesting in Giddeus. My goldsmithing rose to 1, then stopped, so the cap does seem to be 1.

you do know that doing stuff like that ruins the economy, right? or at least helps to ruin it. when prices fluctuate, the economy is bad, when prices even out, the economy is better. anyone with knowledge in the stock market knows these things.

Cyclic Synthing

I am currently working on building a list of cyclic synthing techniques (I lvled my leather craft to 7 in one night by doing this). I have found that the Copper Ingot is the way to go to lvl 7. But I have not been able to find the smithing lvl necessary for the de-synthing. Unfortunately, I wasn't paying attention when I first started crafting (I gained .5 from desynthing the Copper Hairpin to a Copper Ingot), but now I fail 100% of the time. I am sure it had something to do with the day that I was crafting, and I have not yet finished setting up my Mog house, but if anyone has any info on the de-synth of the copper hairpin it would be greatly appreciated. For those of you not familiar with de-synthing, you can go 10 crafts without gaining a single point and still be low enough to skill from it. You can also go 10 crafts in a row and fail, but still be 10-20 lvls above the max skill lvl for the craft.

Anyways, for those looking into starting this, here is what I am currently testing so far (the failure rate is kinda devastating right now):

2 Hours in the Highlands
7 Stacks Lightning crystals

2 Hours in La Thiene or Tahrongi
5 Stacks Wind crystals

1 hour in Giddeus.
24 Yagudo Necklaces

Obviously you can bypass most of the time by buying ingredients rather then farming them. But, you are only working with three ingredients, and the supplies that I have listed far exceed the amount needed (you can probably get by with half the amount of supplies that I mentioned). I have found that it takes about 1 stack for every lvl that you want. So you may need 2 more stacks of wind crystals.

What I am currently trying (since I made the mistake of going to tahrongi canyon the first time without knowing the spawn points of the air elementals) is to go to the Highlands first to farm the ligthning clusters. Then go to giddeus and farm the necklaces (since the ingots will stack). Then go La Thiene and farm Air elementals (where I am currently at).

It does not change the fact that without knowing the level (or a close proximity) of the Copper Hairpin desynth, this is going to a painfully slow process.

Now, you may wonder why I would go through all this trouble. There is no profit in it, and it is very time consuming. The reason is obvious. I can level my goldsmithing to level 7 without spending a single gil, and once I get into a groove, I can finish this in 2 to 3 days (Say one day in each area at the most).

Another way
# Aug 20 2004 at 12:56 AM Rating: Decent
I found a nice way to profit off these I think. lightning crystal + yagudo necklace = copper ingot.

Lightning crystals aren't too expensive and one killing spree in Giddeus nets you plenty of necklaces. I'm gonna try this out tomorrow and see how it goes. Anyone ever done this? Does it work?
RE: Another way
# Aug 20 2004 at 7:57 AM Rating: Excellent
Unless you're planning on levelling up your Goldsmithing skill (to a whopping 1), it's better to sell the ingredients. Yagudo bead necklaces sell for more than the ingots, and the lightning Crystal is roughly the same as the ingot.

The only advantage is you can sell stacks of ingots as opposed to the individual necklaces.
de-synth
# Jun 18 2004 at 9:21 AM Rating: Decent
I de-synthed a copper ring at lvl 5 gold smithing but I also lost a couple copper rings in the process. All in all I'd wait for maybe lvl 7 or 8 to de-synth things

You can desynth from level 1, the results just aren't that good. You should normally take the level to make the item you're desynthing and add 2 or 3 onto it. That will be when you can reliably desynth things. Copper Rings yield 2 Copper Ingots if you get a full desynth, not 1.

700 gold per ingot @ my auction house. That's pretty cool, considering that anyone with copper ore can make one.

You use a crystal, in this case a fire crystal. Once you select the fire crystal from your inventory you can select to use it. You then get a pop up screen where you can add items to the synthesis(crafting) and hit OK when you have the items needed in the pop up box. If done correctly your character will kneel and the synthesis process will start. If it is successful you will create something, if it isn't your crystal will break and you may also lose some of the ingredients. The Goldsmithing (0) referenced above means you don't have to have any Crafting skill in Goldsmithing to attempt to make this item. Still doesn't mean you will succeed. Keep trying though as your skills will improve.

the zero does not mean that you don't need any skill. it just means that the skill cap in unkown right now and when databases don't have a value filled into them, they space always defaults sto zero. Usually to desynth items the skill cap is around 6-8 from what i've seen, which means it'd be good to try it at around 4-6 and tell us all what happened.

for your information-- nuggets are grown from tree cuttings- you dont' find them (at least from the common enemy. You have to harvest your plant to get them)
Multiple?
# Jan 28 2004 at 11:37 AM Rating: Default
I have seen people obtain multiple pieces of lumber from from one synthesis attempt. I was curios to know if a high level goldsmith could obtain multiple copper ingots. Meaning if I use a fire crystals and 4 coppor ore, is it possible of me to make more than 1 ingot?

The only way to get multiple synth on ingots is from de-synthing. This is from my experience. I've gotten several pieces of lumber from logs, but I have never got more than one from crafting any ingots with ore's or beastcoins. My Goldsmithing is currently at 22.8

I've desynthed several Copper Rings with Lightning Crystals. Occasionally I will get 2 copper ingots. Skill-up is rare for this de-synth. I've only gotten one so far (0.1 increase) and it was for goldsmithing I think (but I'm not too sure).
