Hello,
I'm not sure how to update this page, as when I use edit the existing page doesn't show up (as it does on Wikia). I was using Google to find out more about the item (Zeruhn Soot). I'm hoping to find more to do with it than the Minesweeper quest. For some reason, I thought it was part of some crafted item, but I guess I'm wrong.

Anyway, when I came upon this page, I noticed the list of monsters who drop Zeruhn Soot looks to be out of date. I know several high level (e.g. 75+) monsters also drop it, too. I'd update the list, but sorry to say I'm not sure how to update the page and only know how to add this message.

Take care everyone,

I.B. Halliwell on Ragnarok (formerly Caitsith)

Warp Quest
# Jul 23 2006 at 2:10 AM Rating: Decent
Warp Quest requires I believe 5 stacks of this in order to get to the fame lvl required to do the Warp Quest.. Basically what people started out doing was using this to get a mules fame up high enough to do the warp quest, then get the scroll and sell it for a good amount of profit..

After this started catching on, people began to raise the prices on Zeruhn Soot which made the Warp quest pretty worthless.. The prices will stay at this price range for quite some time now, possibly go up when RMT lowers gil prices, and will then raise the price of the warp scroll.. This is by far the best method to get to fame lvl 4 or 5 though.. It's sort of like the cornette quest in windurst, but I'll let you figure out the little secret on that one.. It involves a pile of test answers..

Hope this sheds some light on the situation :-)
This is used for

This is only used for the quest if it was used for a craft it would be under materials and the craft ... but its 15k on Ramuh the same price as moss ... why would u buy this instead of moss?
The high price of soot
# Dec 20 2005 at 12:47 PM Rating: Decent
I wondered, too, at the high price of Zeruhn soot, but I think it may be possible that the only reason people buy it is for Bastok fame and nothing else. The reason is this:
Yes, you can buy Boyahda Moss and turn it in for Selbina fame, which translates into Bastok, San d'Oria, and Jeuno fame as well, but rumor has it that this decreases Norg fame. Whether or not this is true, I cannot confirm, but nevertheless, several people believe it and are not willing to risk their Norg fame, so Boyahda Moss is not an option for them.
There are also several quests in Bastok that are repeatable, but only some of these are availible if you have no fame. For me, I could only do A Flash in the Pan, Buckets of Gold, Cold Light of Day, Gourmet, Minesweeper, Siren's Tear, Smoke on the Mountain, and The Elvaan Goldsmith with no fame. Of these, Cold Light of Day and Siren's Tear involves you turning in Rare items, so you can only do this one at a time. A Flash in the Pan you can only do every 15 real time minutes, or so I've heard. Gourmet is similar, only I think it is every 20 minutes. The Elvaan Goldsmith I am unfamiliar with, but I am fairly sure you cannot turn in another ingot right after turning in one. Then there is the Buckets of Gold, which requires you to turn in 5 rusty buckets at a time, each of which take up their own slot in inventory. Then you have Smoke on the Mountain, which you may possible be able to turn in Galkan sausages repeatedly, but to get a Galkan sausage in the first place, you have to put a giant sheep meat in a fire in South Gustaberg and let it cook for a real life hour, and you can only do this one at a time. For this reason, you will probably not see a whole lot of stacks on sale at the AH.
That leaves finally, Minesweeper. This quest uses, you guessed it, Zeruhn Soot. If money were no objection, you could buy these at the AH, fill your inventory with them, and turn them in to the NPC repeatedly for fame each time. People can farm these quicker than Galkan sausages, so there are more availble at the AH.
Basically, if you are a person that has no fame in Bastok but needs to raise their fame quickly, money is no objection to you, and you don't want to risk your Norg fame, turning in Zeruhn Soot is the quickest method. That is my guess on why it sells so high.
Goes for big cash

I'm new (6 weeks) to the game and based in Bastok. On the Fairy server these are steadily creeping up in price at the Bastok AH. When I started selling them, they were going for 16k a stack, and they sell QUICK. As of this afternoon, they are trading for 24-26k(!) a stack. It takes less than 24 hrs (real time) for these to sell, often under 8.

I have no idea what these things are used for, but someone is buying the bejesus out of them. They are financing...well...pretty much everything.

Ok...soon after I posted this, the price fell back to around 19-20k. Still pretty good gil for low levels, though.

Gilgamesh price
# Oct 02 2005 at 12:57 AM Rating: Decent
15K a stack here on Gilgamesh....just moved to this server couple days ago and this has been funding all my equipment so far....along with a little mining. Lvled WAR MNK and THF all from 3-10 in the mines. You can just imagine how many stacks of this I have found. And yes sells very fast. Come out of mines with about 2-3 stacks every couple lvls to put on AH and before I'm back with next stacks they alrdy sold. No pattern in who is buying it so not sure if it is used in any 'secret' crafts.

EDIT: Just sold a few more stacks today and checked the history again. Same person bought last 10 stacks and bumped price up to 18K now....cant find this person anytime I'm on so I guess it is someones mule.

Okay, here is a question? What are the current prices for this on your server?

On Kujata this is going for 7-9k (yes K) in Bastok for a stack. The only thing I know this is used for is for the quest which pays out 150 gil for 3.

Is there some other use for this that I am just not aware of?

I've been wondering about the price of Zeruhn soot myself. On Bastok AH (Hades server), stacks of these sell for over 10k and they sell fast. No way I'm gonna believe this is only for the quest and some fame... people wanting easy fame in Bastok just do the Selbina Moss/Millioncorn/Cabbage run... much cheaper and far more efficient.

So there has to be some recipy involved that is kept secret... if only we could find out what...

It looks quite a bit like bomb ash. I tried a straight substitution in place of bombash in the firesdan recipie.
Tried using:
Earth Crystal -> Zeruhn Soot x 2 + Sulfur x 1

And got synthesis could not be done. I imagine that this CAN somehow be used to create firesand or at least synthed to make bomb ash.
sell or what?

dropped
# Feb 14 2004 at 1:53 AM Rating: Good
This is dropped by ALL mobs in the Zeruhn mines (hence the name) I have confirmed this. And yes it can be sold, its listed under Misc>Other on the AH a couple pages down.
