Saving Private Ryaaf
# Jul 05 2006 at 7:36 PM Rating: Decent
I'm going to try these with the 3rd assault of Periquia Saving Private Ryaaf. In that assault, the fomors lose track if you can get away from their attacks. In the case where you cant get away and you get in the red, it is very dangerous since other fomors could aggro. With these, the flee would kick in and I could go to a safe spot to heal back up and get to next room.
Ok then it's seems pretty lame

I tried to get these socks to work no luck. if it like red and >100 tp ok well Galka mnk take for ever. I wish I read this her before I bought them no wonder it was only 10k. Shoulda start on yellow thought it would be good for a quick escapse to the zone. But by the time a person hits red there dead anyways

Hmmm...anyone try this after using a poison potion in red HP, because maybe the Latent effect only requires that you take damage.
desynth-able?

I forgot to add some things and it wont let me edit my post.

You must have less than 100% tp for it to work.

These boots are awesome!

The flee lasts the same amount of time as the theft ability flee does. It activates in RED HP (you will see the Flee icon appear on the top left corner of your screen near your signet). I love these boots since there is no recast time to the flee effect! I grabbed some too weaks together and had them put me in red, I got the flee effect on and after it wore off I got hit again and the flee effect went on! You do not need to heal yourself to yellow in order for this to work again.

However, the latent effect is not a 100% chance to activate. Although it will activate (usually takes 1minute or less) (1-10 hits: too weaks of course!)

These boots are strictly for traveling when you have no chocobo! I suggest using a white mage (in case of near death)

These boots were well worth the 10k
not worth it
# May 09 2005 at 1:49 AM Rating: Good
i have had these boots for about 100+ battles and yet to have latent effect kick in. died 3 times with 300% TP and been in red zone being hit numerous times and has never kicked in. if ur looking to get these in my eyes there not even worth 1k let alone 15 i was so displeased with them i sold to NPC merchant just so someone else didn't have to go through the same crap i did

I was under the impression that latent effects didn't usually work when you had 100%+ tp. But that may just be me.
pulling?
# May 07 2005 at 2:21 AM Rating: Decent
these might actually be useful for pulling fast mobs. if you get too beaten up these thing kick in and you can make your way back to camp. just make sure you take them off and that your healer doesnt try and cure IV bomb you.

however it would be better if they activated in yellow hp because if your in the red/orange it could be that the next hit will kill you.
...when hp is red
# Mar 10 2005 at 1:27 PM Rating: Decent
From my experience, flee can activate whenever a mob hits you while your HP is in the red.
I tested these boots on "too weak" Siege Bats in Garlaige Citadel. There is not a set a wait limit for your next flee. At one time, I was able to flee again, right after flee wore off.

I bought a set of these last night... and put them back on AH this morning. Not worth it even if it's only 10k.

At first I couldn't figure out how to make them even work. I was in rolan farming and did the whole Cure IV, Cure IV, Cure IV, etc Convert so as to have minimal life. I fought a bee and I guess I was expecting that the flee effect would be full time so I fought the bee to it's death only to have finished it off and have no flee effect. Apparently it only lasts a small length of time after being hit in the red... so if you finish off monster... odds are that small length of time has already come and gone and you missed your chance to sprint off.

To make these things work... you have to convert to have red HP... suggested to have Stoneskin up at this point... allow yourself to be hit (because simply converting to red HP doesn't work... you have to actually get hit from yellow to red or at least once while already in red)... and then disengage and take advantage of your ability to run fast.

What would be cool is if you could convert put up SS attack a monster and flee off... then once it got close to wearing off or did wear off... simply attack a monster get hit and sprint off again... but again... it doesn't work that way. Some kind of cool down timer between sprints.

I saw these in someone's bazaar. I had never heard of them before, so it was natural instinct to take a picture. The person was selling them for 20k. I took a look at the AH and they were 10k there.

Anyway, I sent in my picture ^^

DO NOT SPEND 100k or more on these

the latent effect is hp based but is also slightly tp based
rdms WILL not be able to convert-> flee

i have tested it and this doesnt work sadly

note: i bought my test pair for 30k on diabolos

You're saying Flee activates when you have yellow HP and <100% TP?

Sweet... I want some ;) These things would rule when elemental farming.

powder boots might actually be better because you have a better control on activation rate of flee
HMMM
# Nov 04 2004 at 9:55 AM Rating: Decent
I had these awhile back, only kicked in when i was hit from yellow to red life, and it seemed to work on any lvl mob. About the down time, i dont think so because i was in temple and i would zone in, let a opo opo smack me, get flee and flee out, then zone out and let some crawlers smack me and zone back in. It was pretty constant, and it seemed to work when i got hit in the back. but the other day when i was trying to get it to work the same way i almost died time and time again.

These are not a reliable way to save your life. I suggest you just get powder boots, the 30seconds you have to wait before using flee it much better then trusting your life to boots that "may" work with red life

*the boots cost 30-50k on fairy server, i think its the more common drop to the NM that drops this, the rare drop being hercules ring (which goes for anything from 700k-1.2mil*

I saw a guy running around with these in his Bazaar on Caitsith, they were priced at 300,000. i have no idea if that was the going rate or not (i was out in yhoator leveling at the time) sounds like it could be a lot of fun to mess around with. not thinking it would be too useful to take out EXPing however.
Real Latent effect
# Oct 29 2004 at 2:42 AM Rating: Decent
The latent effect of these boots is infact Red hp, but a mob has to hit you in order for the flee to kick in. The flee lasts roughly 15-30 seconds and mobs can hit your stoneskin to make it work

the boots seem to have downtime, not sure how long yet, 5-10mins maybe

~update~
just waited 15mins and didnt work

-update2-
just found out that its random -.- theres no time limit, i did it 3 times in a row, very nice for rdm in low level areas, just put stonskin on, convert, get hit and run

this is excellent for red mage, to activate all you would have to do is fire off a few cure IV's and then convert =)
How to trigger these
# Oct 20 2004 at 6:00 AM Rating: Excellent
Latent Effect is triggered by red HP (I noticed it kicked in below 200 HP, not exactly when I first hit red), exact HP unknown.

There's also a refractory period before the latent effect can be triggered again, duration unknown (current estimate is 5-10 minutes).

There is no message in your log when it kicks in, you just see an icon appear in your status bar and you take off.

Sounds great! :D

How long does it last? Until you heal up/zone? Or does it wear after thirty seconds or so?

Thanks for the info. ^^

These things are kinda gay. Red Hp + Mob Attack = Random Activation. I'd rather just buy a new pair of Powder Boots (40k on Bahamut) than pay for these useless things, which are only 15-20k here. Be smart, save your *** with a Flee charge, don't wait for these to kick in, you may end up paying more in EXP than you did in Gil.
