Got some Infinity Cores in Dynamis-Bastok tonight, so I looked up all the info on the Strange Apparatues. I was in Windy at the time, so the closest was Outer Horototo Ruins. Using 3 Purple Chips, 3 Infinity Cores, and the "doctor" password I ended up getting 2 Adaman Nuggets, 8 Cerment Chunks, and the Rune Staff.

Doing some quick tests the Rune Staff seemed to do 6points less damage with my NQ Fire Staff casting Fire III on some Ghouls. However, it did 26points less damage than my HQ Auster's Staff casting Aero III on some Stink Bats.

4MP a tick while engaged was what it seemed to be taking off, due to my Refresh giving -1MP a tick.

Wonder why SE put something like this in the game if the NQ and HQ level 51 Ele staves are so much better. It's level 70 and almost useless... unless of course there is a way to clean the weapon of the -MP effect, like you do when cleaning a weapon for a weaponskill quest.

Hmm... has anyone done any extensive testing with these Rune weapons??!

yes it may be less powerfull than the elemental staffs but it can be used on all spells and only takes 1 spot in the inventory so no need to constantly change staffs for spells and can collect more items

Would this be Good for a BLM if he Macros it in for a MB casting and then Macro it out? The Magic Atk. Bonus would be kewl doesnt Everyone think so? Moldivite Earring / This / and theirs something else that gives u Magic Atk. I think this be Powerful to use ^^.

Any idea on how much Magic Atk Bonus this gives? I am sure the elemental staves and +1 elemental staves would give more, but in instances like Ballista where you get a penalty for changing equipment *shakes fist at SE* this might be ideal for a bonus to ALL spells, not just whichever stave you have equipped for ballista ^^

That is a very good point. I can't say how much it gives, cause I don't have it. The only problem I see is that if I were to ballista as BLM i would either use: Dark staff to give +sleep/aspir/drain/mphealing, earth -20% physical dmg, or ice for the general +elemental magic and int

All of the 'Rune' weapons have latent affects that are triggered when you go into "Attack" mode. From there on, it drains 3 MP a tick, until you have no MP left. Most of the Rune weapons aren't good for the primary stats, just the extra stats that you get from the latent.
