Soloing
# Jul 02 2008 at 10:32 AM Rating: Decent

I have this body and still use it on my 75 drg now.

This item is badass for soloing, Make a gear swap macro for Wyvern HP+ before you trigger Healing Breath and you got some good amount of HP recovered.

At the moment I use : O mitts, Chanoix's Gorget, Drachen Brais, Wyvern Mail (no Homam boots yet /cry)
and combined with Relic - AF (Dia/Healing Breath) - Relic Armet macro I get just about Cure V worth of HP recovered.

Basically I'm saying its a very useful piece of body equip, even though not for general use, when it comes to soloing I wouldnt go without this.

By the way you have to wait a couple seconds after swapping gear before wyvern HP is updated otherwise you get normal Healing Breath. put <pethpp> macro in with your TP and you can see when it is updated.

Rock on fellow Drgs!!

If you look at every other piece of 50 JSE, this is by far the ugliest and close to the most worthless... Combine that with the fact the SE makes good armor for all other Melee DDs (Luisant anyone)I conclude that SE hates DRGs.

for those of you who think this is no good for drg, then you dont know how drg works. this is awesome when drg/mage. as noted below the Healing Breath of the wyvern is dependent upon its max hp. true, this body piece is not the best for basically any form of melee combat. its main usage would be either macro'd in for the Healing Breath, or if for whatever reason the drg would not actually be doing any fighting, simply helping with heals. for those of you who do not understand what this means, look it up under the drg forums. drg is awesome if known how to be played correctly, and this, is pretty awesome also. no body piece gives more hp to the wyvern, if even another body piece gives any at all. add this to the af pants plus possibly homam shoes, ostreger mitts, and a wyvern perch in for the Healing Breath and, wow. most anyone is near full health with one cure that can cost 5 mp (poison) or 7 mp (dia). drg ftw.

I'm thinking the Wyvern's HP is not dependant on your own. Upon hitting level 50, I have almost exactly 900 hp. 820-910 depending on sub. I tested my Wyvern's hp through Algebra and the use of Spirit Link, came out to be around 620.

what you can do is let your wyvern's hp go down a little and then while not in battle (so your wyvern won't get hit any more) see what % your wyvern's hp is, use spirit link see how much hp your wyvern got back, check <pethpp> again and subtract the previous % from the new % change the resulting % to a decimal and devide the hp your wivern got back by the decimal.

ex: say I check and my wyvern's hp is 25%, I use spirit link and my wyvern gets back 300, I check <pethpp> again and my wyvern has 85% hp that means that my wyvern's total hp is 500

85%-25%=60% 300/.6=500

Edit: btw I made up those numbers
(and I hope this is equal to or better than 10% so if I switch to it and the leo sublingar to heal when I switch back Firewing will have 100%)

Easiest way is with the AF pants. They give your wyvern 10% HP- so, equip the pants, use spirit link, and the number recovered is 10%. Multiply that number by ten, and there's your wyvern's total HP.

I'm gonna go through the hassle to get this armor even though its basicly crap for exp pts. Still will b nice to wear it in town instead of that chessboard I've been stuck in since 45.

Edit: this aint worth the hassle of getting it. i tried today. It was a big struggle to get a body piece that is worthless. left before we even killed a single fomor drg cause getting 18 people coordinated is a pain and the aqueducts are hell to go through.

At least it isn't WHM JSE. That crap is worthless. You might potentially use the DRG stuff.

I would love to have this armor... though I still need to do the Promyv. missions to do this.

I /Whm a lot cuz I think it's a good thing to do instead of sitting there waiting for a party, skilling up, or farming. Adding even a little bit of HP more to my Dragon I'd love b/c it'll help me out more than ever. I AM lvl50 and hope to get this soon, and if I don't... I'll only use it when I farm and such.

The extra 65 HP is better than the +10% the AF gives it unless your Dragon has over 651 HP total. Then again, that's just my 2 cents.

And please, if you don't like any piece of equipment you see (or anything else for that matter)... don't post and say it, no one wants to read it. Just go on to the next piece and leave it alone. We would only like to read what it's really for, how it can help, and all the other information we can get about it. Thank you.

My wyvern had over 750 HP by the time I could wear the AF armor, so the 10% is greater than 65. Just fyi. ^^

Brigandine is by far better then this in a normal exp pt. For soloing this one is better tho. But at lvl 61+ when you start to solo serious exp with AF helm and Carapace set this piece isnt worth the def loss.
This is great

I got this piece last night and used it on drg. This is a great piece of armor for you until your AF or Scorp harness if u choose accuracy over wyvern buffs. The HP+ for ur wyvern adds more dmg and durability to ur wyvern, Stronger wyvern breaths and Stronger healing breath. If you are a dragoon and think a brigandine is better than this armor then you dont know wtf ur saying and seriously need to take up another job cause what makes drg so great is the wyvern and its strength a strong wyvern means a strong dragoon plain and simple. My wyvern soleil Outdamages bards, plds and rdms easily sometimes warriors if they use Axe or sword.

ok i have this. got it a couple days ago. I can verify it adds 13hp to healing breath 3. This is not part of a set, this is JSE 50 armor that requires you to get a subligar from Phomunia Aqueducts. And the defense for this item is not bad at all its 4 less then your lvl 58 AF.
The set you could be thinking of is the Gavial set. which is 70+.

are you saying that a wyvern's HP affects its damage and breath weapons? that would be nice, but i kinda doubt it... any proof?

A lvl 70 drg showed me the whole set last night. The main body piece looks just like the lvl 10 scale mail.

everyone who replied "why would you use this how many people sub/whm with drg" dont know much about the job dragoon. this is perfect for soloing drg as it adds hp to the wyvern which in turn gets more hp to the healing breath. and it seems most people asking why people would use this are non-drg

Do you hate DRKs, because in order to do weaponskills safely, you have to sub THF and SATA off somebody, but then you loose out on the damage potential of /WAR? Wait, that's not quite the same...

Do you hate BLM, because in order to use curative magic, you have to sub WHM, but then you miss the extra damage you get from subbing SMN (INT boost/extra MP)?

Also, just so you know, it's not just the Heal Breath that's affected by the wyvern's health, ALL the breaths are affected by the wyvern's health and it's TP- that's right, this piece of armor will ALSO boost the amount of damage that a wyvern's breath attack will do. The Breath Attacks also depend on other factors, as well, such as TP, mob weakness, defense, etc. But this does boost the damage that can be done.

Um... and no, you do not have to sub a job that uses white magic. BLM can trigger Heal Breath with Poison, just like a DRK can trigger Heal Breath with Poison. Ga. Or whatever it wants. The only requirement is that you can cast a spell (this rules SMNs out of the equation, since SMN spells cannot be casted with a wyvern), so BRD, NIN, PLD, DRK, WHM, BLM, and RDM all give access to Heal Breaths.

Umm this piece of armor is by far one of the best lvl 50 JSE armors added. It adds approx. 15 hp to your wyvern healing breath.

honestly, I will never sub WHM just because I don't have the patience to level up a spell casting job. However, I see a lot of DRGs sub SOME mage class. So, yes, I can see how this is very helpful.

at lvl 50 though, how many drgs sub whm?
RE: .
# Feb 01 2005 at 7:49 PM Rating: Decent
I don't sub whm because my whm is like lvl 5. When I solo i sub rdm and when i am in a party I sub war.

Quote:
u dont need to sub a mage u can sub a pal, drk, nin, or brd to get the healing breath attack as well

It is true you don't need to sub a mage job to get healing breath but you have to wait longer to use it. If you sub a mage you can use it at 1/3 hp but when you sub one of the other you have to have 1/5. (that is with out af helmet)

Well, I do. It's great for when I solo/farm, and is good for when I am skilling up my alternate weapons <crimson sword, dagger, et al.>
Also, it slices the downtime in 1/3.
However, when partying its pull out the lance and the war

to use the healing breath attack of a wyvern u dont need to sub a mage u can sub a pal, drk, nin, or brd to get the healing breath attack as well. and the only use of this piece of armor I could think would be for soloing... the more HP ur wyvern has, the more HP u get back from a healing breath...

well I got the quest, spent 20k on the damn items to find out what it was, and lo and behold...THIS ITEM SUCKS! My wyvern barely takes hits at lvl 50 other than AoE's! Why wear this when Brigadine armor is so much better?

Actually, this is a very nice piece of armor, for any DRG. Since the wyvern's Breaths (attacks and heals) are based on it's total HP, this is a boost for your damage or group-saving potential. Also, this is one of the few HP recovered while healing boosts in the game, much less at 50, that a DRG can use.
