This is for Thiefs :)

This gun is really freakin' sweet! I've been rockin' it off on my THF/RNG and my oh my, I'm VBing 1-2 times per battle. Pre-60, subbing NIN is debateable. Without DWII, the delay is so slightly reduced (research points to approx. 2% Haste) that you'll attack at about the attack speed as if you were single-wielding. Also, you'd get Strike shield (Viking for those rich/HNM Hunters). It does give an Agi bonus, not too much greater than RNG sub, and the ability to put a hi stat-boosting weapon in your off hand. RNG, on the other hand gives lots of RACC/RATK amps that will really help those THF that choose to suppliment their TP with such things as CBows and Guns, like this gun. But, with this gun, pre-50 my THF is pulling in comparable TP to a NIN, plus the 20ish TP per bullet. Subbing RNG, my THF is getting a rapid shot activation about ever 3rd-4th shot. Some would Agrue that Serpantine is better, simply because of the RACC and RATK bonus, but the .6sec (every 100delay is roughly 1 sec) extra delay, the substantially reduced damage, and the fact that a THF can't equip it make this gun better. For all you non-conformist THF, who wanna pursue the path of most DMG (also the most difficult and most expensive, but my bullets are hitting for the same DMG as a DRK ;p) this is the Ranged Weapon for you. Or, if you're a THF/NIN and wanna give this sucker a shot, throwing Archers/Hawkers/H+1 in your off-hand for a little RACC would probably be viable, only you'd lack the ever-so-sexy Rapid shot, which, in my opinion makes the gun better than daggers because of the occasional reduced delay. (Macroing on Noct Gear and only firing when sharpshot is available can save lots of ammo : )

PS: Edited for clearity and addendum on accidental ommision of intended typing.

Alot of this sounds like BS to me.

First of all rapid shot won't activate anywhere near every 3-4 shots even with RNG main and I quite simply don't believe the activation rate would be any higher for RNG sub.

Secondly a weapon with 600 delay will most likely kill your you TP gain and at that level Archers knife is a bad off-hand weapon and Hawkers are for BST and RNG only.

And third: Gaining TP at the rate of a NIN isn't really that impressive, in my late 40s I had a few pts where the SAMs had to use meditate to keep up with my TP gain so we could SC.

Guns are generally not a good idea for THF, status bolts will do more than bullets and as a THF you're really not supposed to act as a RNG as your TP should be used to close SC with SATA + VB/DE/SB and your bread and butter for TP gain comes from low delay weapons (read: daggers). On top of that bullets are ridiculously expensive unless you make them yourself and generally a waste of money even for RNG (until silver bullets of course).

As for farming with a gun, you got me...Unless that person was scavenging some antique bullets LOL

My only point was that you don't need a lot of ranged acc gear to easily farm in lower level areas.

Recently I have picked up farming with a gun. It's actually really cost effective for what I do. Due to the increase in price of sheep leather, I go out with enough ingredients for 4 stacks.

4 Stacks of Dark crystals, distilled water, and Tea Leaves. I also go with 1 stack of bullets. Now, for every stack of bullets I get 4 stacks of Sheep leather. Each stack sells for 16k. A stack of bullets costs 10k. That is 54k profit.

Now as to the agruement that I could save the 10k and just cut the bullets out. I kill with a single shot from a gun. I average 3 skins for every 4 sheep I kill. and zero down time (no dmg, no need to heal). So, if I am killing a sheep every 20 seconds (which is roughly correct... as long as no one else is farming as quickly as me). That is 3 sheep skin a minute, or 90 skins in 1/2 hour. Take in 1/2 hour of crafting time, that is a total of one hour farming. So, cutting down to the nitty-gritty. I make 50k an hour shooting sheep. Oh, I did forget to take out the 12k for the dark crystals, and the 2k for the tea leaves... and well 40g for the distilled water... so 40k an hour.

I admit, not the greatest farming, but I do it in an emergancy when I need gil quickly. Great if you are running low on gil and have a money draining job (e.g. I am a nin main now... I spend about 100-300k per lvl:(... so some times I need alittle quick gil...

I like using a boomerang for farming - quick and cheap....though only lvl 107 right now, I can kill all enemies with one throw in the easy areas and the majority in the slightly harder areas such as Tahrongi, La Theine and Konschtat.

Nothing like going into a room full of bats and gobs in Horutoto Ruins, clearing them out in a couple minutes and getting half a stack or more of bat wings and gil and items off gobs. This is just an example of what a lvled boomerang can easily do.

Now to lvl it higher.

A week after successfully completing the quest to get the Venerer Ring, I went back to Rabao and started the next quest with Zoriboh.

Note: My steps might contain spoilers of the quest, so read with caution.

1. Talked to Zoriboh and received the key item "Care Package".
2. Went to Tavnazian Safehold and talked to that one elvaan between the bridge and altar (gives the quest, "A Hard Day's Knight" or something like that). Got a mini-cutscene and he tells me that the girl went to Cape Riverne to search for Goldmane there.
3. Zoned into Riverne Site A01 and went island hopping until I got a cutscene with the girl.
4. On the same island, killed a Riverne Vulture with 72HP left. I was a taru NIN40/WAR. It does a TP attack called Wing Cutter and the damage goes through my blink >.< If I remember correctly, it didn't take away shadows though. In any case, got the Copper Key on the first mob.
5. Traded the Copper Key to the Trunk on the same island and got another cutscene.
6. I don't want to give away the details, but the girl said that her search for Goldmane is directed towards Bastok.

This is where I'm stuck now. Because of my low HP, I used a warp cudgel to get back to Jeuno from that island. I went back to Zoriboh and his response suggests that the quest is still incomplete. I also tried zoning into Bastok Port/Mines/Markets and no luck. Talked to Raibaht and Cid in Metalworks, but no dice.

Can anyone give anymore details on how to complete this quest?

Considering this person was equipping a gun that is lvl46 and he was killing the mobs in Tahrongi Canyon which are extremely weaker, I don't think you need to have as much ranged accuracy gear. If he was indeed farming there, he probably stacked up on Attack/Ranged Attack/STR items to kill mobs faster...OR...he took off as much gear as he could and stored it in his mog house so that he can hold more drops. I'd doubt a lvl46+ RNG would have a hard time hitting mobs there.

(If you got rated down b/c of this message, it wasn't me.)

This is the reward from the second Chasing Dreams quest, the first of which gives you the Venerer's Ring. In order to complete this quest, you'll need to have completed all three Promyvions as well as Phomiuna Aqueducts.

Talk to Zoriboh in Rabao, and he'll give you a Care Package for Sanctia, who is looking for the fabled bounty hunter, Goldmane. Talking to people in Tavnazian Safehold tell you that Goldmane once lived in Cape Riverne, and that Sanctia was headed there.

When you get to Riverne Site #A01, keep going through various Spacial Distortions until you get a cutscene with Sanctia. She'll accept Zoriboh's Care Package only if you help her find a clue to Goldmane's wearabouts. The clue is in a chest right in front of her, but you'll need a key dropped by the Vultures in Riverne Site #A01.

Trade the key to the chest to complete the quest.

That does not complete the quest. When you open the chest you get a cutscene where she finds a clue as to where Goldmane could be, and runs off without taking the package. After that, you have to talk to a guy in the Eatery in Metalworks, then you have to go to Purgonurgo Isle and Bibiki Bay and check a ???, which will spawn an NM you must fight. After that, you check the ??? again for a cutscene, and get the gun. Then you head back to Zoriboh to finish the quest and get some gil.

According to ffxi.cannotlinkto's compilation of info on the December patch, this comes from a quest in Rabao called "The Search for Goldmane". It doesn't have info on that quest, but I recall somewhere that I forget reading that the quest for the Venerer ring is a prerequisite (that quest, Chasing Dreams, is described there in full). The site does mention that a rare/ex item called a Copper Key is required for the quest though, which is dropped off of Riverne Vultures in Riverne Site #A01.
